kirshman 1 Posted January 29, 2022 Posted January 29, 2022 I have the latest emby server running on a nvidia shield. Then it goes to my roku ultra 2020, to my 7.1 reciever, and then out to the tv and speakers. My question is on the audio. When i rip my blurays and 4k blurays to 7.1 aac, the emby server does direct stream vs direct play on my 5.1 aac files. Any idea why this would be happening? Do i need a different codec for 7.1, or is this something to do with the emby app on the roku? Any direction would be great. Thanks!
Solution roaku 842 Posted January 30, 2022 Solution Posted January 30, 2022 (edited) Rokus have limited multichannel AAC support, depending on the model. I'm not sure if any of them support 7.1 AAC. I know they recommend Dolby Digital+ for 7.1, but there's no consumer/open source option to generate 7.1 DD+. I'm a Roku fan, but I finally bit the bullet and got a Shield recently so I could play my rips with DTS-HD and TrueHD. Based on a web search, it looks like it supports 7.1 AAC too. https://developer.roku.com/docs/specs/media/streaming-specifications.md Edited January 30, 2022 by roaku

RanmaCanada 495 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Yeah if you want 7.1 audio you should be using your Shield as you player, not your server.
ebr 16178 Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 Hi. Did these responses answer your questions? The limitation is the Roku with AAC.
