ScottBouch 6 Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 (edited) As above, is there any way to recover my playlists after the upgrade? The playlists are still shown with 4x album art, however, no actual songs are listed within them. Bit annoying as I had put together a mega Christmas playlist, and now have just 1 (busy) week to try and put it back together manually, unless there is a magic fix? (Ubuntu 20.04, Emby Server 4.6.7) Cheers, Scott. Edited December 19, 2021 by ScottBouch
ScottBouch 6 Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 (edited) Screen-shots... All playlists from before the upgrade are still listed: Samples of empty playlists, but note how the genre's are still shown as well as 4x album artworks, and the total play time: Thanks, Scott. Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Is the path in the playlist.xml still correct for each item? Playlist – Manual Migration : Emby
ScottBouch 6 Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 (edited) Well, nothing else has changed, the media is still in the same place, I will go and check that xml info and feed back, thanks for the pointer. Edited December 19, 2021 by ScottBouch

Also as a test can you create a new playlist to see if it brings back existing playlists.
ScottBouch 6 Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 Just followed the guidance, and the .xml files are present, and paths do align with the folders: I will go ahead now and test with a new one as you suggest. Thanks for this help dude!
ScottBouch 6 Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 Ok, sadly it failed the test.. .new playlist built ok, but old ones still missing their songs. New playlist: As the .xml files are still there, it may be something in how the updated Emby server is reading them? I will check between the new Test one and an old one for any differences. Are any details of the playlists held separately to the xml files, like in a database? ie: wondering how Emby can recall certain aspects of the playlists, just not the song list. Cheers, Scott
ScottBouch 6 Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 Ah, yes, the new test .xml is missing the Studios Shares and PlaylistMediaType tags: <Studios> <Studio>.....</Studio> </Studios> .... <Shares> <Share> <UserId>1</UserId> <CanEdit>true</CanEdit> </Share> </Shares> <PlaylistMediaType>Audio</PlaylistMediaType> I'm going to back up one old playlist, edit these tags out of it and see if that helps.
ScottBouch 6 Posted December 19, 2021 Author Posted December 19, 2021 BINGO! Yes, deleting the tags listed in my last post has fixed it!! Awesome! Thanks again for the pointer!! Cheers, Scott
Solution ScottBouch 6 Posted December 20, 2021 Author Solution Posted December 20, 2021 (edited) For anyone else reading this in the future - for the changes to actually take effect: On Ubuntu 20.04, I found the playlist files at: /var/lib/emby/data/playlists The following lines need to be removed from the playlist .xml files (sudo privileges are required). <Studios> <Studio>...(also remove everything in between)...</Studio> </Studios> ......(leave the songs in place)...... <Shares> <Share> <UserId>1</UserId> <CanEdit>true</CanEdit> </Share> </Shares> <PlaylistMediaType>Audio</PlaylistMediaType> On the Emby home page, under My Media, and right click on Playlists icon image, select Scan Library Files, within a few seconds Emby will have read the updated files and you're good to go. Cheers, Scott Edited December 20, 2021 by ScottBouch 1
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 If I had to guess it would be <Shares> as all/most of my playlists have <Studios> and <PlaylistMediaType>. But it is hard to say. There are a couple topics where users Playlists have disappeared but adding a playlist usually resolves the issue.
