Disable transcoding

Hi all,

Exist a switch to disable transcoding in the server? I does not mean the repacking like wrong container format that takes not much CPU time, I mean the recoding for example h265 -> h264. My Media Box has much storage but not the power to do this in realtime.

Something like: "this video can not stream to your device/browser/app, try download it"

I posted this in this forum, I guess it a general Question. For the records my server runs on an WD NAS.

Hi - this is done at a user level,

For each user where you do not want transcoding, simply untick the required options and Save.

Yes, you can sort of do this but as noted in those setting can cause item to fail to play.

As for this there is no message and the user would have to select the download option if you have it enabled for the user. 

In the end it is a matter of knowing why the item is attempting to transcode as downloading could be an issue also.
