Black Friday Question: Alexa or Google

Hi Guys,

Are we any closer to being able to easily play our own music files (MP3 in my case) via either of these home automation systems using Emby ? Black Friday wants me to make a decision and spend some money

Yeah. The Emby skill needs for you to have a emby connect setup. But, it's totally possible to play you music library.

I just got offered to test out the new Echo Show 15. I got early access, and they are going to send me one on December 9.

I only had to pay shipping.

I need to try again actually.  I keep stalling trying to get https working using the ASUS DDNS.

I find that using a reverse proxy really works well. I use Caddy Server. Caddy will even update the certificate automatically. So once it is running it just works. 

I have ddns too, and I wrote a little script that contacts GoDaddy and updates my IP when it changes. So my domain always points back to the server.

So it's like having a static IP, but not paying extra for it from the ISP. 

Then I point the custom skill to the domain.

I should really try and integrate music into that custom skill.

I just pay for Amazon music. I use to have a large music library (collecting since the late 90's), but I got hacked with ransomware, and the rest is history. Oh well.

Amazon music has more music then I would have ever had personally anyway, and it's cheap with prime... So all is well.

Still adding music to the custom skill would be a good coding exercise.

not hijack this thread...sorry.... but ... setting the other custom skill is super simple.

Once you have you SSL Cert installed on your domain, and you have https, you just install the plugin, and everything is in the configuration that you need to set up your custom skill.

 

 

The interaction model has already been created. So you'd just copy and past into your custom skill set up on developer.amazon.com

 

Then you assign emby devices to rooms in your home

 

Assign personalization options to the emby users, so Alexa will know who is speaking, and utilize parental controls in Emby (You kids can't access rated R movies and what not...)

 

 

Yeah. Getting SSL on your server is really the hardest part.

what are you planning to do?

Sorry i did not have the chance to try the skill (italy) so i did not connect the sentence and i asked because courious of any hacking on show

I'm definitely going to extend the Emby interface I already have.

If the echo show 15 has calendar options, and widget applications... Like I think it might... (Still unsure until I see the thing)...

I would definitely like to integrate embys upcoming lists for tv shows, and also recently added items from the library.

Have it all in one central area.

 

Also, it might be cool to create notifications on the screen for currently playing items and the devices they are playing on.

Just incase my kids decide that they are old enough to watch something they shouldn't.

Oh, I don't think that plugin is going to be released. 

There is a Emby skill available in the skill store already.

That plugin shown above is just a custom one I built.

But... If you did want to try it out, (there are some prerequisites to the set up...) you could PM me and we could try.

oh good to know, i’m lretty new here in emby and when i saw that the alexa plugin is not available in the amazon store here i did not started to see what i lost   so i connected your with the “official”.. but if there is a way to try your i will be happy to so i will pm you now!
