Guest Ginmare Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 (edited) Hi, I'm new to Emby and I'm trying to setup everything. Historically the artwork that I have saved locally is 'poster.ext' for primary posters, and 'fanart.ext' meant for thumbs. When initially adding my library +/- 90% of the local artwork is picked up correctly. But I can't figure out two things from there: 1. For the series where the artwork is not picked up correctly, I can't find out why, because the folders, naming is exactly the same 2. What confuses me even more: when I 'refresh metadata' for a series where the local artwork was initially picked up correctly, local metadata is ignored and replaced by online artwork. Can't figure out how to make Emby picking up the local metadata. Even when adding a thumb.ext, nor the primary poster, nor the thumb is picked up I am running server version 4.6.4.0-3001 on a Synology NAS. Any suggestions what might be causing this or how to solve this? Thanks a lot Edited November 13, 2021 by Ginmare adding server information

Fanart.ext is not thumb, that's Backgroud/Backdrop. Where Movie/TV Show doesn't have thumb, Emby will make passable replacement using backdrop. For exact per-type artwork naming check KB articles: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102 https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159110
Guest Ginmare Posted November 15, 2021 Posted November 15, 2021 That makes sense. Indeed I found out that only for series where there no thumb artwork available online or on my NAS it falls back on fanart.ext Second, when trying out and creating different filenames for artwork on my NAS I was always using the 'refresh metadata' option, but that only refreshes online metadata/artwork. So nothing changed and I thought something was wrong. because. But in fact, when adding/changing artwork on my NAS and then use the 'scan library files' it does pickup the local artwork right away. @Luke might be an improvement for the future, when using 'refresh metadata', perform a 'library scan' first to see of there are changes to the local metadata/artwork files.

Hi, that is actually what refresh metadata does.
