Hello,

Part of the video from Avengers.Endgame.2019.2160p.BluRay.REMUX.HEVC.DTS-HD.MA.TrueHD.7.1.Atmos-FGT is corrupt using latest version of Emby (see attached screenshot). Video is DirectStream. This does not happens when watching in DLNA mode. This does not happens with other players or mediaservers.

Thanks

Pretty sure this a HLS issue as Apple does not support HEVC in HLS, at least for iOS.  Lots of topics in Apple section.

I think it has to do with Emby custom implementation of ffmpeg. The video work fine with Jellyfin and Plex server.

At least for Apple yes there is a limitation for Emby's implentation.  Pretty sure the LG TV falls in the same category where it is a issue with HLS. @SamES

  1. HDR passthrough is only supported by Apple TV native player (MPV player does tone-mapping)
  2. MKV direct playback is not supported by Apple TV native player, so direct streaming is required
  3. HLS HEVC streaming in Apple devices requires HLS fMP4
  4. Emby Server does not support HLS fMP4
  5. So, HEVC in MKV container is full transcoded using Apple TV native player.

I hope it is understood, this is an Emby's limitation not Apple TV.

Yes, this is the same issue.  It doesn't affect every 4K file, but will be an issue until the server supports HLS fMP4.

Your best option is to select an alternate audio track if you have one so that it DirectPlays, or create one manually like these examples:

Single file,

Is there a way to force Emby to stream without using ffmpeg? The video does not have this problem if I use DLNA. I think DLNA directplay.

Thanks

If you are using the default DLNA profiles then it should be trying to convert the audio as well.   If you have changed the profile it may be trying to DirectPlay.  On LG platform with DLNA if the audio tracks are not playable (such as TrueHD) it will default try and play the next track which is probably what is happening, it won't actually be playing the TrueHD track.  In this case, you should be able to achieve the same result by manually selecting the alternate track before playback using the Emby client.

If you try DLNA with a file with TrueHD only and no other audio tracks I expect you will get no audio output.

Try DLNA and check the server Dashboard, what does it say the playback method is?  Are any ffmpeg logs  being generated at the time of playback?

Can you post the media info for this file, it may make it clearer as to what is going on?

I would assume you would have to select one of the AC3 tracks to stream copy this specific media as the TrueHD track is not supported by the device you are playing on.

I am guessing you are trying to play the same media as the iOS log above.

This is not true.
