CBers 7669 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 It would be nice to allow non-Admin users to have the option to refresh the metadata for their own content. For example, my daughter has her own libraries (TV and Movies), but when she's watching something and say the synopsis is missing, she has to ask me to update it, as she doesn't have the Refresh Metadata options. Obviously this would be set on a per-user basis. Thanks. 4 2
Luke 42878 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Yes this is something that ultimately should be split out as a separate permission. Thanks.

So you mean you just need the user level option and then they can refresh metadata on anything they can see. This would include "your" content if they can also see that.

Not sure what you mean by "there is no ownership of content in Emby", but my daughter has her own libraries. She can only see her libraries. I'd like her to be able to refresh the metadata for the content in her libraries. Edited October 29, 2021 by CBers 1
Luke 42878 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Right, your point is understood and how many people use it. That was just a difference of a technical answer vs. usage based answer.
ebr 16607 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 I don't really see how my answer was more technical. The request, as asked has an ambiguity because of the specific setup the the requester has. Many (dare I say most) people have their users all seeing mostly shared (the same) content and then maybe have some specific content they can also see. I'm pretty sure if we implemented this option at only the user level, we would very quickly get requests for it to be only certain libraries and, based on how the question was posed, I thought perhaps CBers was thinking this as well. Simply wanted clarification on the usage and intent, not anything technical.
CBers 7669 Posted January 23, 2024 Author Posted January 23, 2024 @LukeIt's been over two years now, so is this on the roadmap please? It's so annoying for my daughter to have to keep asking me why Emby doesn't have a synopsis, or images for a particular item. Or have I missed this having already been implemented? Thanks.

HI, yes it's something we can look at adding. Thanks. 1
CBers 7669 Posted yesterday at 01:21 PM Author Posted yesterday at 01:21 PM So another 2.5 years, and this hasn't made it into the system. Can't see why a non-Admin user doesn't have the ability to refresh content, shared or otherwise, as it's still only going to download the same metadata as an admin account. If the metadata is locked by the Admin, then fair enough, but that should be the Admin's perogative to decide on. Please asvise on the progress of this request. Thanks.
Luke 42878 Posted yesterday at 02:55 PM Posted yesterday at 02:55 PM Well for one it would change the presentation of that item for all users on the server.

This may be a personal niche request, but I think it would be valid for more people than just me. 1

That's upto the Admin to lock it if it's not to be changed, but this is mainly to be used when there is metadata missing.
crusher11 1254 Posted yesterday at 04:49 PM Posted yesterday at 04:49 PM Why would an admin be on top of locking things but not on top of updating things so all metadata is present? 2

Hmm so this will force me to lock all my media to no have a random family member / close friend to mess it up. For me that would force me to manually run through my. 2000+ movies 400+ tv shows All my music + music videos. Not to speak of my photos and home videos. And the lock them...... 1
Luke 42878 Posted yesterday at 05:40 PM Posted yesterday at 05:40 PM I think it’s valid request to be able to grant permission to more features without requiring admin.

TMCsw 287 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I really hope Emby doesn’t spend any of their resources on this. Why would any Emby server admin want to let a child curate their libraries? Lazybones No they are not just ‘your’ daughter's libraries; they are for any-one YOU (or any admin) choose to share it with! Think of the bigger picture, not just your own ecosystem! 1 1

Think of any user on any system that has to contact the Admin because there is no synopsis, or missing images for a movie, TV show or the like. Emby doesn't always get the correct, or any, metadata the first time it is added. Sometimes it can take a few goes, depending what is available online. How many times have you had to refresh metdata to fill-in the gaps? Imagine this for your users seeing something with loads of stuff missing? They then have to contact you to put it right, where possible. Now imagine if they had the option to "refresh missing metadata" - you wouldn't be contacted, unless @Lukecould add an Admin-only nootification that an item was refreshed. Think of the bigger picture, not just your own ecosystem!

What media and where are you getting it that has this problem? I have never had this problem (but I don't have Porn or Anime on my server). This sounds like a solution looking for a problem.
