darthweder 3 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 So I'm about to migrate over to a new server, and I'm reading the Emby Backup steps. This guide suggests "enabling saving of local metadata to media folders". I know that this was an option before the switch to the new library system, but I'm not seeing that option anywhere with the new librarys. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Carlo 4561 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Hi, Make sure to turn on advanced setting top right for each library.
darthweder 3 Posted October 17, 2021 Author Posted October 17, 2021 @cayars I have looked through those settings and I don't see any that say they will save it to the media folders. Is it "Save Metadata and Images as Hidden Files"? If so, that doesn't specifically say it will save it to the individual media folders.
GrimReaper 4762 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 There are 2 options you need to enable: 1) NFO metadata saver 2) Save artwotk into media folders Not that it only applies to new and/or changed items, for other exiting ones Refresh Metadata is required in order to trigger writing. 2
darthweder 3 Posted October 17, 2021 Author Posted October 17, 2021 @cayarsand @GrimReaper Thank you! I just turned those on. The language in the backup documentation could probably be updated since it doesn't match the language in the app.
Carlo 4561 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Which backup documentation are you referring to? Got a URL?
darthweder 3 Posted October 17, 2021 Author Posted October 17, 2021 @cayars This guide, at the bottom of the first step, in bold. https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159936-configuration-backup
Carlo 4561 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Are you sure you got the right link? I only see one thing in bold on that page and it's correct. This will not backup library contents and metadata. That is true as the Backup Configuration Plugin does not backup that data, only the configuration of the libraries. Not sure how that relates to this thread other than the fact it will back up all the changes you make to the configuration of the libraries.

If I had to guess, I'd say OP means: Quote To keep a permanent copy of metadata, we suggest enabling saving of local metadata to media folders. should be rephrased to include exact options that need to be enabled. Maybe parenthesis?
darthweder 3 Posted October 17, 2021 Author Posted October 17, 2021 @GrimReaper That's right, I was looking for the old option that said "Save metadata to local folders", rather than the new option of checking the box for "NFO".
Carlo 4561 Posted October 18, 2021 Posted October 18, 2021 Keep in mind it's a different option you need to set for graphics as well if you want everything stored with your media.
