Hello,

Is it just me or is anyone running into a Windows hosted Emby Sever hanging when the display attached to the server is powered on/off? Like clock work if I turn off display (or unplug it) Emby server just hangs. Zero additional logs no response nothing. I have to force kill app and start it back up. Where it will be solid until display turns back on (or is plugged back in). I write a quick PS script to "monitor" and restart app when it stops working, but have no clue where else to check. Anyone else having this too? Any ideas on what to check?

This happened with Windows 10, and continues after a Windows 11 upgrade.

Can sanitize logs/etc if needed.

Thanks!

Hi there, can you please attach the emby server log file from when this happened?

Thanks.

Hi, I have not looked at your logs but would like you to try a quick test.

Turn off hardware transcoding in Emby Server and restart it.
Now try turning off your monitor.

Any difference?

Try removing this plugin:

2021-10-13 14:13:02.744 Info App: Loading MediaBrowser.Plugins.SmtpNotifications, Version=3.1.6.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKey[x] from C:\Users\[x]\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\plugins\MediaBrowser.Plugins.SmtpNotifications.dll

Also shut down the Ombi software and leave it shut down.

Then start Emby Server back up and see how that compares.

No, I would just turn off ombi.

This might be a bios issue that may be able to be changed.

Quick question for you however.  Why do you need to turn off the monitor?  Can't you just let Windows power it down like normal after X minutes?

How do you start Emby Server currently? (Set to start with login, Manually, Service)?

If either of the first two what happens if you don't have Emby Server running, turn off the monitor then remote in and start Emby Server?
Does it start and run?
If so does hardware transcoding work?

Assuming that works, what happens now if you turn on the monitor?
How about back off again?

Hi All, after some deep testing and driver debugging the culprit was a driver called "Air Display" using "Air Display Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1" driver.

Device instance path: PCI\VEN_1337&DEV_BEEF&SUBSYS_FEEDCAFE&REV_00\3&11583659&0&0000

It's on the PCI Express Root, and it's not an add-on card, so maybe part of motherboard?

Apparently this driver was installed no too long ago, which probably correlates with when this started happening. The driver was removed, all plugins were re-enabled, Ombi server back on, and all seems stable with TV on/off, as well as RDP open/close, and even remote app like Teamviewer.

Topic can be close, thanks for the assistance!

Emby continues to be rock solid, and it's 100% my fault!
