PaulE123 20 Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 Hi all, just wondering if I might pick your brains re subtitles. Server side I have Smart Subtitles turned on, and my preferred subtitle language is English. The media file in particular, a Korean film (#Alive), has its stream audio correctly flagged as Korean, and this is detected within Emby. The external subtitle file I have is named as "#Alive (2020).eng.srt", following the established naming convention (media file is named as "#Alive (2020).mkv"). However, as can be seen in the pictures, Emby will NOT play the English subtitle file unless I manually switch it on from the subtitle section. I thought that Smart mode would automatically play the external subtitle file IF the detected language was not English, and if the external subtitle indicated a language that matched the chosen preferred subtitle language? I'd appreciate any help here, ideally I'd like for Emby to be able to recognise English flagged external subtitle files and play them automatically if the media file is not flagged as English.

Which audio language you have as preferred (Settings>Playback tab)?

Since you have English/English and playing Korean-language movie, subs should be pre-selected. Does same occur on all foreign-language movies or is it isolated to this one particular case?

Most other similar films are unaffected, but one or two are like this. That said, I seem to have resolved it...I clicked "Clear Saved Track Selections" on the subtitle menu, and this seems to have resolved it. Perhaps at some stage I purposely clicked on "none" while testing? If that's the case, then Emby remembered this (as per the check box shows), and retained it. Obviously my bad here, apologies for wasting time, thanks so much for the help! 1
