  2. Nice work. Luke, any chance of adding Australia and New Zealand support to Live TV data since it appears to be supported by Gracenote? Thanks!

  4. Have to say it's been a pleasure helping contribute towards the xbmb3c (soon to be kodi) addon. We've achieved a lot as a team with a few nice debates included along the way Looking forward to seeing what else we can bring out of this addon in the future. Cheers and thanks to you for starting it off and recruiting such great developers!!

  5. Hi, it's great to see Emby using Blog posts to highlight new releases. Let's have more of this please! However, based upon the comments above... it would be even better if some of the main UI additions and changes could be explained in more detail beyond one line bullet points. This wouldn't necessarily be for every minor bug fix, but just more info on the newer functionality for those not aware of what has been going on with beta releases and not regularly following the community forums. I don't think this should be a task for the Emby technical developers though. They have enough to do with their time. This task should be a fundamental function of marketing support team members, to fully understand the new features, and explain them in a non-technical way, as official Emby info, for everyone to easily reference. Ultimately this should also lead to updates of knowledge base documentation. Otherwise many questions will continue to arise through random forum posts, taking even more valuable time away from ongoing development effort. Thanks for considering.

  6. GENERAL NOTE - PLEASE READ Guys, I know that there are a lot of things still unexplained. This has been an incredibly tough effort for all of us, I had no sleep for days until Thursday and still pretty damaged. I'll try to answer all questions over the next days, the responses need to prioritized in a way that we are helping affected users first to get going again. But there are answers to all questions you have, and some might be surprising and might make things that some are criticizing appear in a different light. Thanks for your understanding.

  7. Unfortunately my original advisory text has been softened as it would have scared people. I said it MUST scare people because it's a serious and scary situation that needs to be understood in full length: In case Emby Server has been shutdown the system is COMPROMISED! What's most important in this situation is to understand what it means and which consequences it has and which steps are required. Getting Emby Server to start again is the very last and least problem in that case. Unfortunately it now appears as if we would just want to bother people by letting them go through a complicated procedure for starting Emby again while the really important steps appear just like an optional bonus task that may be omitted and can be overread like the typical security bla bla in those instruction manuals for kitchen gadgets. So once again clearly: When your system is COMPROMISED, your task is not about getting Emby starting again You have a lot of big things to do and consider. Restarting Emby is just a tiny little bit at the very end, and only when you decide not to re-install the system.

  8. A suggestion. Would it be more efficient for people needing help to start or post to a thread in the sub-forums for their OS/platform? Perhaps creating threads with the subject/title "Security Advisory Help: <OS/platform>" in those sub-forums could bring help from others familiar with those systems. It's getting a bit crowded in here with multiple reports and requests for help across the wide variety of Emby installations. Hard to keep track and contribute.

  9. I for one am appreciative of how quickly you acted regarding this hack. I run Emby in docker (on Unraid) and it doesn't appear anything has been compromised and I didn't see any unusual activity in Emby but as your blog suggested I changed everyone's passwords as a precaution. Thank you for being diligent.

  10. You're supporting Gracenote either way because that's where SD gets their data from. This will allow us to have a built-in option to reduce user setup requirements and make us more competitive with other software.

  11. You guys are doing great. For me, Emby has been working great and with very very very few issues for several years. From that perspective, the current release cadence with a sufficiently long QA period seems to work well. Be wary of growing the team; more coders require more revenue and that may require bigger adjustments to the business model than discussed elsewhere in the forum.

  12. If you had an old opensubtitles.org account you will need to convert it to a new opensubtitles.com account. Go to opensubtitles.com and when you click the register link at the top there should be an option to import your old org account. If you already have an account with the new site then just start using the opensubtitles.com account once you update the plugin.

  16. Will the 25-device lifetime be increased to 30? And the 45-device lifetime to 50? (Its not avaliable to buy anymore) Also with the "hopefully increase the value" you mean also the price for bigger plans? Example of the 75 device at 19,99$ to 80 device at 23,99$ Price per device before: $0.27 Price per device after: $0.30 The 30 device still have the same price as before 4,99$ And now the price per device Is: 0,17$ Shouldn't it be the other way around? Usually the more you buy, the less you pay. The 30 device now Is way more convenient This is not to say that I disagree and will not pay anymore. Of course you can do what you want and as long as the software is worth the price I will continue to use it. PS: It would be great to know which users are using how many devices. I know it's done on purpose so that it can't be known. Sorry for the long post. Happy New Year

  17. We don't like that either! Please note that you DO NOT NEED a Microsoft Account! I've added this to the FAQ Post with a link to a more detailed explanation: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/134677-new-windows-xbox-app-faq/

  20. Don't ask that too loud. There's a large cult, I mean crowd of power users, many from the early days, who would probably love nothing more than have all other clients work the way the ATV app functions. It's still the "go to" app many feel everything else compares to. So I wouldn't be worried about it disappearing any time soon. Obviously newer app releases have a bit different different design and more consistent functionality that is more menu oriented vs having to remember special key codes or patterns that have special meaning. The newer app designs have a more elegant and modern look to them with better thought out navigational designs that equally work for new users to the more experienced existing users (but might have an extra click or so). The newer apps use a converged or dynamic UI that adapts to different size device screens including smartphone, tablet, desktop to TV. Not only does the UI change based on size but also adjusts to different methods of interaction. The new Android app for example works with taps, swipes and gestures to keyboards and mice, blue tooth and TV remotes as well as voice command. It support communication via WIFI, WIFI Direct, Blue Tooth or Ethernet. Not to mention receiving or sending streams to other devices and Chrome Casting. A converged app that works in this manner brings the same feature sets to all members of the OS family which might be hard to do otherwise. It should be able to simplify support, allow parallel testing of different device types leading to better testing before release. Not only will the OS rollout at the same time giving all our users the same set of features so what they do on their tablet, phone or TV will work the same. It will allow the same set of features for all OS clients if possible, so it won't be just your Android Mobile that can download and watch media offline. Little things like this go a long way from a consistency standpoint as well as user expectation.

  23. @costan - https://github.com/MediaBrowser/wiki/wiki/Is-My-Emby-Premiere-Key-Still-Valid-with-Emby-4.0 Is My Emby Premiere Key Still Valid with Emby 4.0 The answer is YES!

  24. US only again? Jeez, you've really got to sort that out. If Plex can go global on Samsung TV's, no reason why Emby can't.

  25. This is great and all but I only came to emby because I can manage users without making them sign up on a third website. This feature is great but please never make it mandatory like plex.

  28. It has happened several times now where there is a release, then maybe a day later another release (bug fix, presumably), but the second release is "stealth". There is no documentation here about what the second release changed, even though it would be good to know what changed in the second release. It could easily be documented at the top of this page by adding a couple lines, listing the version of the second release, and a line item or two about what changed in the second release.

  29. While I don't have an iPad capable of running the App, I do have an iPhone and like the iPhone app. As such, I purchased this to show support. And who knows maybe one day, my wife and I will get updated iPads.

  30. I am with some of these other people. I love Emby, but after shelling out over $200 for both premiere and the 45 device lifetime, I am a bit bothered. Don't you think you should make the increase across the board and actually reward us users who have put up the extra money as well?

  31. Always someone missing the entire point. Problem is not 'buying something and asking for a refund on difference'. It's about keeping the system fair for those who have supported Emby beyond the initial entry fee. Mentioned it's a great step in the right direction regarding limits, just really needs to be adjusted down the line. I can understand if extra devices paid monthly can't be altered but to not adjust the permanent upgrades ( which can't be removed or refunded ) is only a slap in the face, more so if you made this purchase recently. Wording on the upgrade page still looks like these stack to me as well. When I purchased expected 45+15 and was left with +45 after spending 119+99 (310aud). Now a week later we get this news. Nothing but good things to say about Emby otherwise. Just sharing my 2 cents. Perhaps it's something they are considering already

  32. okay, well I paid to raise my limit to 45 so that means I need a limit increase to match. Please bump my license to 55, its only fair

  41. K...I started using this feature recently and it's growing on me. The wife and I can watch/track our seperate shows and if she watches somethign without me and I want ot watch it later, it doesn't disappear from Suggestions list. BUT...it would be REAL cool if there was a way to easily mark a show watched in BOTH user accounts if we happen to watch something together, which we do often as well... I mean, I guess you can log out of one account, log into the other and mark it watched...but maybe adding a check box for which accounts to add it to the watched list...IDK...

  43. I love the thought of Sync and have an idea that would help speed up adoption maybe for mobile users. On a trip to Disney last year I picked up a Raspberry Pi. I then made it a hotspot and installed a DLNA server. I took my kids favorite shows, transcoded them in handbrake to an iPad format, and copied the shows to the Raspberry Pi. The kids would connec to the raspberry Pi via Wifi, start their DLNA client, and playback the shows. What I think would be cool is to have a connector of sorts on the raspberry pi, that would check in with MB3 via wifi for content to download. On the MB3 side we then see the Raspberry Pi as an available Sync to device, and select shows to Sync. This would allow me to get out of the handbrake business and just use MB3. Am I the only one that thinks this could be cool?

  44. I think you're misunderstanding the purpose of the api key. It is a security feature and will not affect the way you login or out of Media Browser applications. Currently the Media Browser api is publicly accessible to anyone who tries to talk to it. Now they have to have a key. Most users are not going to care about this feature but it will please the security nerds.

  45. Seriously? It's $4 for an awesome app. Make a "Hello World" app and see how long it takes you. Then make a real app and see if $4 is worth the effort. I'm glad people still put the effort into this kind of thing despite people like you!

  46. This is going to be a bit ranty so if that is not your thing stop reading now. Back in the day (10 or so years ago) when I first started contributing to community media projects one of the first tools I ever wrote was Virtual VCR (http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualvcr/) registered on SF on 2002-12-29. It was an enhanced recorder based on an example from the DirectShow SDK. For its time it had a bunch of features that were not available in other tools and as such got picked up by mags for CD covers etc all the time, a lot of them being German for some reason. It was not a huge hit but people were very appreciative of the hard work that went into making it and while I made zero money form the hours of dev time I put into it I felt it was worth it at the time to help the community and to get the odd nice comment from someone. Never did I receive a comment that to tool was lacking or that it just needed to be a bit better before people would consider it. People were happy that the tool was available and the source was there for others to build on. Since then I have worked on many community media projects and tried to contribute where I could. Flash forward 10 years and we now have such a whiny entitled self absorbed community in the media space that the first comment on an open project blog that is highlighting the hard work of many people developing and contributing their time for free is that it is "lacking" and that it would need to improve its game if it were to be considered as an option for the poster. It is not just this project but nearly all media projects I have followed over the last few years, some people have a feeling of entitlement. To be fair a majority of the community including this one is excellent, helpful and very willing to give constructive feedback and help out where they can, unfortunately it only takes a few to taint the feeling of a community, and that is just it, community is a collection of like minded people working for a common goal and when a small few come across as entitled twats it can change the feeling of being part of that community. This line from the first post hits it home for me "what you can offer the community", we are all the community, everyone should ask themselves today what one thing can you do TODAY to contribute to the community, coding, testing, art, feedback, suggestions, answering other members questions, writing FAQs, writing Wiki page how to's etc, whatever you can do you should. Not just here in this project but on all projects. If you cant contribute for whatever reason then just be thankful that there are others out there that can, for without them you would have nothing.

  47. I mean really, what were you expecting??? Unicorns to fly out of your HTPC shoot rainbows at your mobile device of choice and a dozen non-threating munchins sing your viewing options to you as a nude swimsuit model pushes the play button? LOL. Trust, I'm very critical and have been so in the past and continue to do so but really what more could these gentlemen have offered outside rewriting an entire new XBMC/MB3 experience? The devs work hard and while you haven't said anything derogatory, let them have their moment in the sun. There's plenty of room for constructive criticism within the confines of the forum. As always, just a thought.

  48. This is absolutely awesome how some of these themes fully integrate with mediabrowser and all the amazing features of XBMC. Anyone that hasn't tried this really need to.
