Is it time to explore this either in Emby core or as a plug-in if possible? https://letsencrypt.org/2026/01/15/6day-and-ip-general-availability4 points

ah...in my response I hadn't considered the server access sellers and the support angle, I'm aware of that side of course and they are pretty easy to spot. I also think there are wannabe sellers, or even someone recently who sounded as if they had inherited a server lol As for the helping burnout, in some way it's probably because emby as a project is pretty much solid for the core functionality. Yes there are nice to have's and some of us want a particular feature, but there is more than enough which is stable and feature-complete, and where not there are easy and well understood hacks and workarounds. Things were a lot more fun when trying to get emby working on a Synology NAS and then within Hyper-V, I think I spent most of my time tinkering than actually watching anything, now it is the other way around. Helping is difficult as people with simple issue who don't want to invest their own time in simple investigation and reading are tiring. I don't want to deal with them at work, why would anyone want to do this out of work... But hey we are all still here because Emby is an amazing piece of work, I don't even class it as a product.3 points

I tent to agree. Most new user are Emby server users that don't own and have installed there own servers. Asking 1 time questions about there experience / failed attempts to connect to, what they call there own server, and never again reply. Share sellers redirecting there support to this forum or just don't care. Sadly this started after the big purge, where the forum was deleting old unused accounts with on forum activities, meaning 0 posts or replies. As a result share sellers are making them ask 1 question, most topic "KJHJKHK" Body "djfhk" 1 thing I have noticed is that some of the old account / helpful people have stopped helping new people, sadly I'm 1 of them. I have hade enough of people asking for help directly via PM or getting a smirky reply they cooked up via some AI. Or they never get back to you if that helped them Then there is the other people asking for help that don't want to supply logs or read the linked "how to guide" and supply where that fail them. So spending 1 - 2 hours trying to help them is going unanswered, and right now I feel like I'm waisting my time.3 points

Attached file with the latest changes. Feel free to use as is, or modify to suit your own set-up. There are some tips in earlier posts on how to install it. The script should also run via browser extensions, such as Tampermonkey. There are also tips above on how to add your own custom Release Types and change the style to your own liking. Thanks again to @GrimReaper for creating the original script(s) therefore he receives the Solution accolades!!! For anyone interested in music Release Types, in general, there is a good topic here to contribute to: albums_groupby.js2 points

Just to be clear this is not meant to be criticism against the emby project or any individuals involved with emby as developers or as users! I started my emby journey back when it was Media Browser and my users peaked just before Covid took over and strangely it went downhill after that and I shut my server down for maybe 3-4 years. Maybe a year ago I started my server back up, mainly for my own 'enjoyment'. I was curious where the project had got to, what the community was up to and to be part of the community again to help out. What I found was not much had changed, my premier key still worked, everything materially looked and felt the same. It was as if I had never left. I think I had expected it to be 'shinier' in some way. I will say the HDR and Atmos support was probably the biggest thing I noticed, I don't doubt that was a big effort. I'm unsure if my media presentation eye has been dumbed down by commercial apps or emby has improved - I can't tell but I've applied minimal customisation to my media views, where as I remember back in the day I had a certain amount of tinkering to get it looking right. Now to the forum, I would have expected a lot more participation. I feel outside the regular names I see participating there is very little going on, maybe it's the limited number of sub-forums I look at!? It makes me question how active the user base is now, or how has it changed? Also the people requesting help has me questioning my sanity sometimes, like it takes a certain amount of knowledge and experience to even know about emby, nevermind go to the trouble of installing it and getting it half way there. Sometimes I get the feeling people are data mining, that their issues are fake and they are just obtaining information about what emby is being used for. Just to ask the question you've managed to install emby on some hardware and are using the internet to register with a forum, the last thing I expect is to explain how to operate a mouse.... When stuff doesn't make sense it leads me to think there's something else going on, or maybe I'm just paranoid!! Anyway, that's my mini-rant over with, would be interested in what others think.1 point

I was unsure as well but it seems to work just fine, even with two streams running parallel1 point

Yeah I can tell you IMDB is not gonna be an option for me to add to this plugin. MDBList is freaking awesome and support a lot of filtering and creation of list. Yes, it cost some money if you want the whole experience, but in regards what you get its well worth it in my opinion. I beleve you might be able to import your IMDB list aswell? There might be some other workarounds like Sonarr etc does it, to use a 3rd party that scrapes IMDB and then post it publicly. But that is a bit of a gray area.. For now, MDBList covers a lot of functionality and i will look into adding TMDB and other open sources. If you have any request pls let me know (I'm only using MDBList myself)1 point

Organizations that are concerned about these IP based certs can create policies to restrict to Domain Validation (DV) or higher. They wouldn't have to blacklist the CA, ISRG in this instance. Even DV certs don't add that much protection since anyone can get a subdomain with a DDNS service or even free Cloudflare. For Emby users I see this as an option for those who rely on Emby Connect, don't have a domain and would like to benefit from end-to-end TLS/HTTPS without having to learn or follow the usual path to HTTPS. As for the rest I do see how this could open the door for bad actors against whom the only safeguard currently in place is a bad cert error in a browser or auto HTTPS failing to connect. But with free domains or options like Cloudflare some are likely presenting "valid" endpoints already.1 point

Hi Vis, I think I might need to expand the sub-forums I frequent, it might just be that the things I'm interested in are just not that cool and interesting anymore. As I said I'm not trying to criticise emby in any way, I do agree the core UI needs to remain consistent and adding the wrong thing jeopardises the community. Maybe the UI is too good in that even though there were changes I couldn't even notice them after being away for a few years!! The CSS work you've done is pretty amazing, I'm also looking forward to the new customisable home pages. I've stayed away from the Beta versions as I've just not had the time to deal with it or have the resource available.1 point

Apo, I think you have some interesting comments. Try clicking on "Unread Content" link top right, if you want to see the latest activity across all the forum posts. Beta versions have a large update with custom home page features. Changing the look and adding many features to a media server or any website is challenging, takes much more effort, than many people think and can be detrimental and kill popularity, if not done carefully. Many software products have lost marketshare from adding too many bells and whistles. Some audio / video types are sort of protected by license limitations and software policies must follow many rules to even get permission to post a download with Google or Apple. There are even legal liabilities which make some features, a real risk to even create. https://emby.media/community/topic/145871-41001-revamped-home-screen-section-editor/ === Occasionally, in the forum posts some staff developer working with Emby may write, that this or that feature is a liability and the user will respond, "But just add a switch." A lot of technically correct answers are misunderstood, which is rather amusing. That is the nature of support. I think this forum is quite active, compared to many online forums. Trying to read everything posted in a day, would take many hours. For Web Emby, there are many customization options using the custom css code entry in Admin dashboard / General. Unfortunately, this customization does not follow though to mobile or TV apps, mostly because those apps have to include everything within the code and there are really restricted rules from Goggle and Apple, as to what is allowed. I've offered a custom css code package that has over 3800 lines of code. There are many others, with customized features, as well. https://emby.media/community/forum/144-web-app-css/1 point

Bummer, but I totally get it. Moved over to MDBList, working great so far. Anyhow keep up the great work!1 point

Hello, Indeed, I’d like to release version 1.0 before publishing the project on GitHub. There’s still quite a bit of work to do, and I prefer not to rush things, even though I’m already spending around 4 to 10 hours a day on it. For now, I’m starting to talk about it in various places to introduce Mediakeeper, and also to invite people to join a brand-new Discord server. The goal is to discuss the project and gather feedback on needs that existing solutions don’t cover, or don’t handle well.1 point

Yeah, I can see that they use their own sources for the metadata but both apps do allow the import of IMDB watchlists under settings>import lists. This is an automated import (every 12 hours, I think). https://wiki.servarr.com/radarr/supported#imdblistimport Thinking about it, I can see now how this method would be an issue for Emby1 point
-
These are IP based certificates which eliminate the need for domains. I should rephrase: They eliminate the requirement of a domain name. Domain names still good but not needed.1 point

Nice I saw you post's on reddid, but no like to github for code review or any way to use it1 point
-
Sonarr and Radarr are using TMDB + scraping other DB's to do this with movies/shows that have IMDB id. They have there own metadata end point, that users use. Its a strange combo the a company like Emby can be sued for letting something like this live. I guess if this plugin can never be included in the plugin section, if it ever use this methode. @soderlundplease keep this in minde.1 point

Yeah, that gets really complex really fast, huh? And not just from an implementation standpoint (your specific implementation wouldn't really work because that's not how next up works). It would be quite confusing to the user to be bounced to some other series when watching a different one.1 point

Well, thanks to some great help from @GrimReaper I've managed to use JavaScript to turn the Artist Albums pages into more of a Discography page, where you can Group and Sort Albums by either Release Type (from custom album tags) or Decade (from standard year tags). Does this automatically fetch Release Types from MusicBrainz? - No Does this automatically import embedded metadata from RELEASETYPE tags? - No Does this automatically Group and Sort by Album Release Types from your Emby Album tags? - Yes Does this automatically Group and Sort by Decades from your Album years? - Yes Here's a couple of screenshots: While this only works with the Web Client, it does give a good feel for what a potential native Emby implementation could be. It takes a bit of Album tagging work to set up for your preferred Release Types page view, but the Decades page view doesn't need any set up at all! For anyone wanting to experiment with it for themselves the detailed technical information is here: While it's not the magic automatic solution, perhaps we just need ROONALBUMTAG importation from Emby (as a faster first step) to make something like this easy to use. I'll be most interested to know if this is similar to what other people are wanting? Cheers!1 point

I had a Logitech 5.1 years ago but not as fancy as that one, if it works it works I'm very lucky I have made my main lounge into my cinema room and I get to use it everyday without the family complaining too much...I even watch my daily youtube on my projector setup. But our eyes and ears do get used to it, they build a tolerance just like eating spicy food!! Whenever I've been away for a few days and I come back it's a bit overwhelming and a new experience again. I've never asked my neighbours how they feel, no one has complained yet1 point

Agree, that would be the best way to handle that. I’ll see what i can do. Hard. Very hard… The API for IMDB is EXPENSIVE and not something any individual want to pay. A quick google search says around $150,000 per year… So the alternative is to scrape their website, but that is breaking ther Terms of service. Even so, I’m not willing to put down the time and effort to create that function. What you could do if you are having trouble with Trakt itself, is to use MDBList. MDBList can fetch list from trakt directly within its own filters. Search the public lists and you will probably find someone who has already created one that is available. I’m curently working on some bug fixes and a new cleanup function (remove tags and collections on the server). I’m expecting to finish this update within a day or two. After this I’m gonna look into adding support for more external sources.1 point

Unfortunately, I’m experiencing the exact same issue. I followed the same steps, but after a few hours of use, it always updated itself back to the latest version. How can the automatic update be prevented? And indeed, it’s been nearly four months since they promised to fix the bug, but unfortunately it still hasn’t been resolved—the issue is still present even in the 4.10.0.8 beta version! ...please! embyserver_20260330.txt1 point

No worries,. just post your amended version here so anyone that might find use for it can download it. Btw, that Beatles page looks really smooth now, I'm glad you've got it as you wanted it. Topic title changed.1 point

@GrimReaper This v4 is looking completely excellent now, especially from a grouping and sorting perspective. The "Release Type - Custom" is perfect for creating your own Release Type grouping order and still allowing for supplementary Tags underneath. It now turns the Albums pages into your own custom Artist Discographies, based on your own music library and tagging system. This is definitely a keeper!!! If I ever want to (e.g.) split Soundtracks away from Compilations, it's an easy change and won't mess up anything else. (We just need Emby to implement importing ROONALBUMTAG tags, for easy updating of the Album tags themselves, in Mp3tag.) I decided to use the Registered emoji to designate "Release Type". It keeps these tags grouped together elsewhere and fits with my overall Emby theming - so all good! // Custom sort priority for Release Type — matched by prefix (case-insensitive) const RELEASE_TYPE_ORDER = [ 'studio album', 'live album', 'compilation', 'studio ep', 'other', ]; The only other things I've adjusted are all just styling to suit my own preferences: Changed the items count separators in the headings from brackets (19) to: dot symbols and spaces • 19 • Moved the divider lines to above the titles Changed the divider lines spacing Changed the divider lines color to: dimgray Changed the card spacing to: 21px (it's an almost perfect match now to the standard grid - both card sizing and spacing) const header = document.createElement('h2'); header.className = 'sectionTitle sectionTitleText'; header.style.cssText = ` display: block; padding: 0.75em 0 0.5em 0; margin-top: 0.75em; border-top: 1px solid dimgray; `; header.textContent = `${tag} • ${groupAlbums.length} •`; const grid = document.createElement('div'); grid.style.cssText = ` display: flex; flex-wrap: wrap; gap: 21px; margin-bottom: 8px; `; Here is the updated end-result with again using "The Beatles" as test Artist: If you want to update your own script for your reference and also post it, then I'll mark it as the solution. Also, as you're a Forum Moderator perhaps you could please change the topic title to Hide Playlists from Included In & Group Albums by Release Type + Decade. As the original topic diverged completely, this may help others find this in the future. I'll then also reference this topic in other topics about Music Release Types. Cheers!!!1 point

Following up on this topic, the ability to search within a specific library remains an essential and unresolved need. In practice, the current all-library search continues to slow down workflows, surface irrelevant results, and make it unnecessarily difficult to locate known items in large, organized collections. For users managing multiple libraries by type or quality, this is not a minor convenience but a fundamental usability gap. Adding library-specific search would materially improve precision, speed, and overall efficiency, and still feels like a missing core feature. I hope I have not missed any recent developments on this. Cheers.1 point

So for this one. I played s01e02 fast forwarded to the end till the next screen popup. Did it three times before it failed and crashed emby to main TV screen. So the crash should be within a minute of this time. 2026-03-28 13:20:21Hell Mode - S01 E021 point

I had no choice but to make a backup, uninstall Emby, and reinstall it, but with version 4.8.11.0, the subtitles and playback on LG work perfectly. It's a shame; I've had this error for three months now, and they keep saying it will be fixed in the next server update, but it never comes!1 point

It is really cool that Emby has the ability to support multiple versions of the same movie. It would be nice to have a setting on the client side to allow the user to set which version should be selected by default. This could be as simple a user-entered string, or it could be a list of detected strings to choose from. It could allow multiple entries and it would choose them in the order entered. On the Kodi side, it would also be nice to get the "Choose the Best Version for Me" option that the Emby app has.1 point

Hey, we have version grouping for movies and tv - but not for books, games etc. But primary for books it's common to have a epub, mobi, pdf and other versions of the same book. Right now the book is just a directory and each book file is a file inside. Same for the games library, if you have different versions or file formats of the same game they just appear multiple times. I would wish to be able to group these the same as we can group movies. So that we have one nice entry for the book/game and can select which version to download (with plugins play/watch). An example from the games library. And same (but looking different) goes for the books library.1 point

HI, yes the ability to group and merge is something that we can look at spreading to books and games in future updates. Thanks or the feedback.1 point
