  1. I use Dispatcharr as an IPTV proxy that assigns multiple backup streams to each channel. When a stream experiences issues (buffering, stuttering, or complete failure), Dispatcharr automatically fails over to the next available stream in the sequence. Current Issue: When Emby encounters a problem connecting to a Live TV channel, it tends stops the connection attempt entirely after a few seconds. Even though Dispatcharr switches to a backup stream on the backend, Emby has already stopped trying to connect and does not automatically retry. Requested Solution: Add configurable settings for Live TV channels: Connection timeout duration (time to wait before considering a stream failed) Auto-reconnect behavior (automatically retry connection after timeout) Number of retry attempts This would allow Emby to detect when a stream has failed and automatically reconnect, which would then pick up the backup stream that Dispatcharr has switched to. Also, as a bonus, adding native Xtream Codes (XC) functionality would be greatly appreciated.

  2. In Jellyfin there is that option for m3u tuners. As me and probably most people will use Dispatcharr now or soon, this is being done twice at the moment - by Dispatcharr and by Emby. So if we can disable that in Emby we will hopefully get a slightly faster stream start. BR

  3. You’re right — metadata views have always existed; I just hadn’t been using them. Until I see what 4.9.4 and later bring, I’ve created .nfo files with my folder-specific genres as an interim workaround, effectively letting metadata reflect my curated folder structure.

  4. Hi, I don't agree with this. The metadata views have always been there (Movies tab, Genres, etc). It's more about making the folders tab a more accurate representation of your folders. Yes this i can understand and perhaps a better name is needed.

  5. I was contemplating "borrowing" the UX from SponsorBlock and adapting it to support Emby's existing intro/credit markers, and perhaps add in support for recap/mid-credit scenes, using a similarly highlighted seek bar like how it's done for youtube. It'd be useful purely for manually setting values, and obviously would only work through the web interface. It'd also only store data locally, as previous attempts (ex: Chapter API) had poor uptake on syncing results to a remote server. It's really too bad that there's no standard for storing chapter markers in NFO files!

  6. I definitely have this issue. Dispatcharr --> Emby takes around 5-7 seconds to start playing, meanwhile Dispatcharr --> nearly any other IPTV app or VLC is an instant start-up.

  7. With College Football and NFL seasons starting up in the States, a multi-screen option for Live TV would be a nice addition to the Emby feature set. I am thinking of what the WatchESPN app offers thru their Web Browser access. The ability to open a multi-screen window that breaks into four (4) screens that allows you to select streams (Live or Replay) for each and then go full screen. Audio is from whichever of the four screens you have as active. I can accomplish the same right now with the HDHomeRun Quick View TV app. I open multiple instances of the Windows app and then snap them to each corner on my 110" projector screen. Equivalent of four (4) 55" screens. Would be nice if this were a remote friendly option from within Emby Theater and the WebUI clients. I have only seen it in Web Browsers at the moment and not any of the Win10 UWP apps (FS GO, NBCSn, WatchESPN). But, Fox Sports Go just released a multi-screen solution for their Apple TV app. https://techcrunch.com/2016/08/26/fox-sports-go-hits-apple-tv-allows-viewing-of-four-games-at-once/

  8. After recently switching to Emby from Plex + Tivimate, this would be an amazing feature!

  9. Ice Storm thwarted. I installed 4.10.0.1 beta on my Synology NAS and am happy to report that the Legacy Scan is functioning as expected. This brings me tremendous joy. I will be happier still when a stable release comes along where I can get out of beta mode. Thank you for the turn-around on this.

  10. I was wondering if you could add some improvements to the subtitle feature, especially when both embedded subtitles and external subtitles exist. 1. As you can see in the picture above, all of the embedded subtitles are contain (SUBRIP) while my external subtitles names contain (SRT). Can you add an icon or some text to make it obvious between embedded and external? For example, add [External] prefix to external subtitle files. Where "English (SRT)" would be displayed as "[External] English (SRT)". 2. Add a setting to 1) prefer embedded subtitles or 2. prefer external subtitle files when the apps choose to automatically load subtitles 3. Add a display setting to display external subtitle files above embedded subtitles. As you can see in the image above, there's a lot of embedded subtitles that i don't care about and always have external subtitles for all of my movies. I would rather see my local subtitle listed on top instead of scrolling all the way to the bottom to find the external subtitle" 4. For external subtitle files, they don't appear to support nested tags, for example, "RED.2.2013.720p.eng.default.forced.srt". I know that hearing impaired and SDH isn't supported quite yet but some subtitles would have names such as "RED.2.2013.720p.eng.sdh.default.forced.srt" or "RED.2.2013.720p.eng.hi.default.forced.srt"

  11. Hi, I have a large collection of WMA lossless music files. Apparently Samsung does not support that codec. Is it possible for Emby to transcode those into a format that that Samsung can play? If so, how do I enable that? I have looked at the Emby server settings and the Emby/Samsung client settings but did not see anything applicable. I have thousands of files so transcoding them into FLAC (which plays fine) or some other codec is not far from ideal. Thanks. Best, Bruce

  13. Sounds like a good idea if you can get enough people to install and use it. I like it! Sadly i think Emby plus the amount of people actually installing plugins is to small a "sample" to make it work but it's worth a try!

  16. Well, false alarm. I had, just recently, turned on "High Contrast" in Windows because some of the apps I use do not have a dark theme but they do respect the changes of "High contrast." I jiggled with the themes quite a bit and found/created a great one for me but it does have a side effect in that it blanks or hides some color combos and the one that Emby uses for toggles is one that disappears. I need to use "High contrast" because my old eyes do not handle screens like they used to and the dark/blue versions of "High Contrast" makes reading the screens a lot easier. Since "High Contrast" is an easy toggle in Windows I just have to remember to turn it off when I want to mess with Emby's settings. Thanks to those that tried to help. I guess there is little help for those of us that have self inflected wounds.

  17. +1 I and my users experience this consistently each time a channel is started, including when switching from channel to channel. Previewing the same stream directly in Dispatcharr takes under 2 seconds, usually less.

  21. I see those but there are no selection boxes for the last three options. Maybe this is a beta bug. I created a new user and tried to copy all settings from the old user but ended up with no ability to import settings and no backdrops (which is good) but that is not a solution. BTW: My primary user, the one I am testing with, has full admin privileges. Since this could well be a beta bug @Lukeor @ebrcould you take a look? Also my backgrounds for my main user have disappeared, that is good but the selection boxes for those last three entries are still not showing. This does seem to be a beta bug and also the legacy backup/restore seems to not work either. This probably should really be moved to the beta forum. I am going to try a few things and I will report back if I can keep working.

Confidence score now actually work, yay! Known bugs: Intel QSV hardware acceleration not working, this will requires an updated to the ffmpeg built into Emby. Please use VAAPI for now. Please note: Turning on all settings at once require a large computer to have detections done within a reasonable time so set the settings you need for best results for you and leave the rest. All the options have only been given for users to customize the plugin to work as best as possible with their libraries. Improvements to user-friendliness is next on the todo list. Thank you to @Neminemfor help with testing and bug chasing.

  27. AI edit of what I’d written above (it was ~5am, just waking up). Also, just to be clear (because the AI flagged it and it definitely wasn’t my intention): That wasn’t meant as snark. It was genuinely funny. I love how LLMs will find a way to justify whatever they’re told. I’m working on a code review tool at work, and the prompting side has been… an experience. For context: last night I spent a few hours going through and spamming “like” on the things I actually want included in the signal, plus marking the stuff I’d watched on Plex as watched in Emby. That improved things a lot. The only downside now is waiting for that huge burst of “watched” events to age out so it can be weighted appropriately. Then this morning I spent another hour or two setting ratings on various titles (including 1-star ratings for things I only have because it’s a shared library with a friend of dubious taste). Big improvement again. Anyway, the more coherent redo of the above: Explicit likes/favourites weighting: If favourites are used as a strong positive signal, it may overweight sparse explicit feedback. Consider scaling the “favourite/like” signal by how much a user actually uses it (e.g., favourite-rate), and/or treating rewatches as a stronger implicit preference signal. Respect profile restrictions: Filter candidates to only items the user profile can actually see (parental controls / rating limits), so picks aren’t wasted and explanations don’t reference inaccessible titles. Reduce repeat surfacing: Add exposure tracking + cooldowns. If a title has been recommended multiple runs without being played, apply a penalty or hide it for N runs/days to keep the list moving (large libraries have plenty of variety). Add a recency factor: Consider an optional “freshness” weight (newly released and/or newly added to library) to bias toward newer content when desired. Cold-start onboarding: Optional “taste seeding” flow for new users (bulk rate titles) to establish preferences quickly. Since you already ingest Emby heart ratings, a lightweight onboarding could just be a bulk ‘Rate/Review signals’ page that shows all rated + unrated titles with fast inline heart controls and filters (unrated, watched-but-unrated, frequently recommended-but-ignored). No new data model needed, just less clicking. Add a per-profile Blacklist / Never recommend action that hard-excludes titles from future runs (with a manage/undo list). This is different from 1-star/dislike, which should remain a soft negative

  28. Understood. the problem I had/have, was I was effectively dropping frames. However I had no ability to debug/diagnose the cause of the problem because on the client side we are limited in logging ability. I realized in a browser, there is less Emby can do to help, as the browsers API is doing much of the heavy lifting of the streaming, but I was hoping in the app there was more information available. Not blaming anyone, simply hoping for a solution to the problem.

  29. Just to set some expectations for those running the full sync - expect 3 days for the full sync to proceed in this order (these were my times from a Canada location): 1. Local Channels = 45 min (for All Canada) 2. Music = 13 hrs 3. Talk = 23 hrs 4. Sports = 3.5 hrs 5. By Location = 23 hrs 6. By Language = 30 min (English) 7. Podcasts = 6.5 hrs 8. Favorites = 1 min At the rate of 20 queries per minute (1 query per 3 seconds), that was roughly 86000 queries for my full sync!

  30. I see that it was added the the servers thumb view, but it appears (correct me if I am wrong and where to find it) but on the "devices" settings, i.e., my tv device, that there is no selectable view on my tv (not the laptop server that I use, it has the ability), to view the "date late played", i.e, "Played 12/8/2025". Could this be added, this was my original wish, thank you! For what it is worth, currently on my tv under movies, I have the "Last Played" for the listing (which does display the last played, but not a label under the name/year and rating with a date, then under Display Preferences, I have "show labels", with image type being default or thumb. Now on the server thumb view, I can truly see the actual last date played, but on the devise (my tv), it just has the same, name/year/rating. I would be fine if Default or Thumb had this ability to display. I am not sure if this is what you just got done saying would be added, but wanted to make sure. Let me know if I am not expressing what I request correctly. Thank you!

  32. Sure - and each time this is delayed, more changes happen, and more previously usable work has to be thrown out or modified when it is put in place. Each delay makes the job more difficult and wastes more of what already existed, which is an argument for getting on with it. Paul

  34. So far so good. There's some weirdness with similarly-named titles stacking up as "versions" of the same movie, which I don't remember happening before, but it's not too widespread, and fixable. I remember @Lukesaying that this scan method is more prone to errors, so it's tolerable, and preferable to not having the legacy scan method. Not that I get a say, but I'd just like to suggest that the "Legacy" configuration be renamed to something like "Collapsible" or "Collapsing Folders", so that it is more descriptive to users setting up libraries, and doesn't come across as some clunky old functionality that is eventually going to disappear again. I mean, I get that Luke probably doesn't want more people starting to use this mode, but from my perspective it would be nice to ensure that this setting continues to stick around and doesn't accidentally get sunset again, and maybe there will be a handful of people that are curious enough to try it out and benefit from it. Good luck with the ice storm!

  36. I was waiting to see what you @mrmixedsaid about the 4.10 beta. That is great news. Assuming I still have power in the morning (got the ice storm headed our way), I will install the beta and see if I can get the same results.

  38. It is fixed!!! At least based on rescanning a few folders. I'm going to do a full rescan and will then start putting back a bunch of posters that got whacked over the past few months of many upgrades and db restores, and will keep an eye out for any further weirdness... but I think this is finally the complete solution to fully restore the legacy functionality (and hopefully for all platforms, too.) I am curious to see if @cp41can confirm on his Synology NAS installation as well. I would write more effusive praise to the devs for making this fix, but I'm far too eager to get back in and start being a server admin again.

  39. Early in the 4.9 beta program we were assured multiple times that this would come in "the next beta program". Well, there were a couple of other small beta subprograms which kept the 4.9 moniker, but now they are clearly in the next beta program, as they've changed to 4.10. Of course, not all new things will be added at the same time, but if it doesn't appear in this beta, people who chose to take them at their word will be very disappointed indeed. Paul

  40. Ok in last beta we see some new feature, for organizing home screen, good move, much needed step, but if u ask yourself why are we waiting 6+ years for tvnext in beta, look no further, lead developer is responding to every post on forum that has any connection to home screen and he is announcing it in every thread And remember when ebr told us that Andorid TV app cant be worked on since they got no time, well there you go, they are posting like minions on every post instead of making a thread about it and go use time on some important stuff we wait years for.

  44. Are there any later versions of Emby for Windows available for download than 2.234.2.0? Are there any updates? Can I get the link to an installer that's not from the Microsoft Store? How do we sign up for the Beta versions? Just asking because I wanted to see if any new features are available that can improve the experience, i.e getting Nvidia RTX Super Resolution Ai scaling working with Emby because it appears not to work with the version I have installed.

  46. While the plugin in the catalog is still broken, here's something you can test meanwhile: Emby.WebStreams.Plugin.dll.zip Instructions copy this into the Plugins folder of your Emby installation (overwriting the existing one Important: Delete the config file "webstreams.xml" (or rename or make a backup) You will need to re-setup everytthing anyway to get it all working properly Restart Emby Server Changes Adds support for RSS and Atom feeds Includes migration features for migrating settings from The IPTV plugin The PodCasts plugin New "Quick Add" button Localization: Add translations for all 50 Emby languages Uses the new parental rating selection Use dynamic season folder management by the server (this let's you edit the season numbers of episodes) Does no longer drop episodes where it cannot determine the season number (these will have a season number of -1 until we have a special display name handling for it) Increased connection timeout (30s) HTTP: Enable automatic transport compression HTTP Headers: Supply "Accept" and "Language" headers (to be tter match browser behavior) M3U Urls: Parse and pass extra header parameters behind a pipe char Set the item name as "Original Title", so that it can still be seen after the title has been overwritten by metadata Create automatic field mappings Support feed image fallback and per-feed info fields Support hyperlinks for items and folders ("Official Website" link) Display stream errors in overview Fixes "Show at top level" is working now Fix M3U parsing with commas in titles Fix playback of audio items RSS: Add support for itunes:author field Fix loading sources with GTTP basic auth (https://user:pass@host.com) Metadata refresh indication: Fix percentage calculation Always show metadata refresh queue when active (not only after adding or refreshing a source) Broaden support for episode name patterns Fix for unsupported episode patterns like "(S01/E01)" Don't overwrite data from metadata retrieval Provide a default set of library options to enable proper metadata retrieval (it cannot be customized yet) HTTP: Don't force http version 1.1

  48. I wrote a large piece of software for one of our products we sell, I simply drop in a branding plugin which overrides the built in default branding. I don't see why this should be a difficult task for emby (but then again I haven't seen the code), request the branding image from the server, if it exists then use that if not use the built in image.
