Even before that post Feb 3 2019, ALL my libraries that have movies, documentaries, single videos, sports videos and New Years Fireworks videos are ALL mixed content ever since Emby 4.* and it works in the folder view the way I like it. In addition I create my own collections with the top folder having images and meta data for the collection and the sub folders being the individual movies with their meta data. In addition I use Media Center Master to collect all my meta data plus in some instances I create my own xml files because the content doesn't exist anywhere else. This is what I like about Emby you can fool it in doing things the way you want the content to display. Everyone of my movie.xml files has the tag <SortTitle> which allows me to sort my content where I want it to appear. The more you can customize the content display yourself, more work, but more to your liking. The Devs here love their creation but there surely must be a limit to their engagement.2 points

Hi, yes we will have to add some additional work to the library scan to determine the resolution of the embedded subtitles. Sometimes it is not the same as the video.2 points

Hey Guys Just to jump on this and give you my 2c After reading the above i decided no holding back and installed the Android Emby app.(I had been using the EMBY TV app until this point) I really tried to like it but frankly it is NOT a smooth user experience, with momentary pauses, glitches (as mentioned by other users). Also the UI is not snappy or as pleasing to the eye as The Emby TV app. Truth be told, When i purchased EMBY it was on the strength of the EMBY TV app, and if i had made the mistake of using the EMBY android app first , i would probably not have purchased Emby. I really think you have a winning formula with the Emby Tv app, and it will be a mistake to discontinue service on it , instead bundling it into a janky do-it-all app , at least until that app can return the same experience. Even if google won't allow it on the app stope, and we have to go through the mission of sideloading isSTILL a better option than the do-it-all2 points

Yes, there is a problem somewhere because I am finding a similar situation with updating AlbumArtist with the latest 4.9. Sometimes the changes take and sometimes they don't with a normal folder scan. Doing the scan from the Album seems to work in most cases so far.1 point
-
H, I just did some very quick testing and found the same situation: Updated Genre in Mp3tag for a whole album, then: Genre will not update when doing a Scan Library Files via the folder structure (e.g. Folder Tab>Parent Album folder) Genre will update when doing a Scan Library Files from the virtual album (e.g. Album Artist Tab>Album Artist>Album) I haven't tried every possible path to do a Scan Library Files or a Refresh Metadata of an album, but perhaps try doing the rescan from the album itself rather than the folder (if you haven't already) and see if that helps? Cheers!1 point

I can recommend looking at "Alternative Smart Playlists" by @mickle026 instead. He's done an awesome job at a smart list plugin.1 point

I am aware of that solution, and I do have it installed. I have to maintain multiple userlists and multiple clients and servers. I am looking for support with Emby's implementation and I'm looking to improve Emby's implementation if there's an issue with the software here.1 point

You can have them set a default tab in the Roku app they use. It will be remembered that way. This will be their landing tab. Then the next time they enter that library it will start at the default. It will show their landing tab. They will still see all the tabs. But at least this way it lands them on the right one when they enter each library. Note: Press * (star) on the Roku remote when inside the library you wish to change the landing tab.1 point

P.D. However, for the time being, the current version of the Android app still works fine and shows nested folders.1 point

Hi. We're in the midst of a fairly large facelift in the Roku UI and I'm afraid this is wrapped up in that. We'll get it out as soon as we can. Thanks.1 point

Thank you. i think it is working now as i had a private ip address with T-mobile but when switched back to spectrum it appears it is working now. Thanks JOhn1 point

And I think it's getting worse. I'm still on version 4.8 (I have disabled the update to 4.9), But despite being on version 4.8, with the new Amazon Fire TV app update that fixed the trailer issue, I no longer see my nested folders, which made it difficult to find what I want.1 point

I checked with a friend and his works properly with gesture nav. The only difference between us is he has an S25, I have a Pixel 8 Pro, so it might just be a bug with Pixel's gestures. Thanks all.1 point

Yes - this is the point I am making. The problem is with the Emby server, not the client / hardware...1 point

You don't need to worry too much about that. Once Emby starts to remux instead of transcode, any tone mapping will be done by Apple's AVPlayer instead. With a correctly built HLS manifest, AVPlayer will NOT tone map if the hardware supports HDR.1 point

I've been running side tests using ffmpeg, a home http server, and a generic instance of AVPlayer on tvOS 26 so I could bypass the restrictions currently imposed by Emby. I did all that so I could see & document what it would take to get HEVC & HDR / DV working on AVPlayer on tvOS 26. I'm sure Emby has it's own HLS manifest builder which is more capable than ffmpeg. That may or may not need to be adapted to accommodate HDR/DV playback on tvOS26. So to sum up my findings: HEVC on AVPlayer needs: -tag:v hvc1 & -hls_segment_type fmp4 (& strict -unofficial if Dolby Vision metadata is present) This will play all HEVC videos and by default tvOS 26 AVPlayer will tone map any HDR/DV to SDR HDR/DV on AVPlayer needs: CODECS, SUPPLEMENTAL-CODECS, VIDEO-RANGE, FRAME-RATE (don't know if Emby already adds all those to the manifest) https://developer.apple.com/documentation/http-live-streaming/hls-authoring-specification-for-apple-devices-appendixes Without this, AVPlayer (at least on tvOS 26) will tone map any non-SDR content to SDR. With the correct manifest: AVPlayer switches the TV to HDR / DV mode and videos play as expected. You and the team probably know most if not all of this already. I just thought I'd document my findings if case you (or anyone coming here via Google) finds any of this helpful one day. Thanks again for taking the time to read all this. Looking forward to seeing Emby do native HDR on the Apple TV1 point

I am totally confused with this issue and only came here because a post of mine from 2019 providing a solution was linked and I have no problem at the present. Here is my setup. I am running version 4.9.1.90 on a QNAP NAS. I have all kinds of different libraries and ALL of them are mixed content with the following exceptions having the default content type. TV Show = TV Shows, Music = Music, Music Videos = Music Videos, Collections = Collections, Home Videos & Photos = Home Videos & Photos All my Movies, Documentaries, Sports and Conventions are mixed content and I select the Folder View Tab on the browser and the Emby Theater pages and it behaves the way it did under version 3. So, PLEASE no feature updates that break this as I don't want to spend the remaining years of my life working on the WAF.1 point

Basically it fails to stream it at all. ffmpeg tries to use the gpu and blows up over and over because it doesn't support VC-1. Attached is the log file with all the gory details Also, I believe VC-1 isn't all that uncommon - esp in older DVDs (which this is a rip from). ffmpeg-transcode-f2687bf9-e2fb-4daa-be03-97f2af5656bf_1.txt1 point

Could we add a function of "Actor Management"? It should allow browsing all actors by their first letter and managing their corresponding information. Also, it should enable viewing all the movies an actor has participated in here.1 point

I think this is a great idea. I was just coming to make a feature request just to be able browse by actor. This would be even better!1 point

No, I had not used a beta version. I had to refresh my knowledge of permissions, so you made me find my access error. I changed to f: /media/sentey/Rocket-Pro/Emby.Backups drwxr-xr-x root root / drwxr-xr-x root root media drwxr-xr-x root root sentey drwxrwxr-x root systemd-network Rocket-Pro drwxr-xr-x emby emby Emby.Backups The 'sentey' folder needed public changed to access files. So, as usual, user error. LOL The one difference I see in selecting groups is the display is shown as emby:emby but in selecting groups it is emby:Emby-Server. So, that is a point of slight confusion I suspect is part of Mint. The previous Mint versions used the Emby process under the systemd umbrella as I had used this external drive with it, so that was why I was adding it as a group. Q-Droid & Luke, thank you for helping me see the error of my ways (HA HA) and getting a working solution. You are very much appreciated!1 point

Hello everyone. I also tried my hand at designing a bit. I actually wanted it to be simple and in Emby green, but the more I look at the icons, the more I don't like them. Maybe someone is interested or has ideas to improve it. The icons are now only designed in German. Ideas, tips or requests for changes are welcome. embflix.zip Best regards Dicken1 point

There's a lot of complexity going on under the hood. The kind of layering of video and web content in a WinUI3 application is something that is normally not possible and often requested (developers from MS). We're one of very few (if not the only ones) who have that working in a production app in the MS Store. That's the reason why I can answer that so directly.1 point

I had already disabled/reinstalled Iconic Image Enhancer. Disabling and uninstalling it had no effect on connectivity. Okay, I changed the db case size as recommended. Will re-start everything and test again. I don't see how that would effect only external connection, however. I also downloaded the latest Emby build. Will also try that after restarting Emby server with recommended db cache .1 point

For the Roku specifically, the user experience would be terrible because the Roku cannot run multiple apps at once. On other platforms it may be possible but this just isn't our intended goal (aggregation of media streaming sites) at this point in time so it isn't a very high priority.1 point

Apologies. The intent wasn't hostile. It is just the reality. What I mean is it isn't our fault it isn't already being done. On Roku their specific terms for developers mentions this part below. This would mean we couldn't expose that plugin to the Roku. There would be no ability to deep link into another application. The only way to get around this is with the content providers permission. There would have to be some agreement shown to Roku.co to certify your app with those partners and whitelist that behavior in the app. Otherwise they block your application when using that method. They refuse to publish until that code is removed. On other platforms it might be easier to get around that restriction and there would some benefit. This doesn't mean it cannot be done. But legally there is a reason everybody isn't doing this already. The other guys are doing this because their investors (read this as the money people) are pushing them to license more content to make advertising revenue. Emby isn't motivated by the advertising revenue or the investors. It is motivated by the users. If enough users want this to happen and some way to legally add this without having the app stores revolt it would be possible. I seriously didn't mean anything hostile. It was just posing it like an analogy. What if streaming your own media was golf. Then streaming from a third party service is bowling. It isn't the same, really, so the analogy might've fell flat for some people. Apologies again. No harm was meant. I was trying to make it something where it was easier to understand. A bowling alley across from a golf course would just be ridiculous. Or would it be genius? A way to make it easier to talk about without having to talk about it directly. Apologies if it upset you. Really am. In no way do I have much power in that regards. I am a small cog in a very big machine. I cannot speak for the entire team. I can only speak my own opinion. Sometimes I should stay quiet. Sorry. Not meant to harm. Wasn't meant to be seen that way. Hope you understand.1 point

Do this: chmod o+rx /media/sentey chown -R emby:emby /media/sentey/Rocket-Pro/Emby.Backups You don't have to restart the Emby server but it would still be a good idea so that you get a fresh full log. There were other strange errors in the log unrelated to the backups. Did you happen to install a beta release when troubleshooting?1 point

Run these commands from a shell and post the output: namei -l /media/sentey/Rocket-Pro/Emby.Backups mount | grep media1 point

The default user:group for a fresh install using package (.deb, .rpm, etc.) is emby:emby. But there's no guarantee that UID and GID will be the same between different systems when one is older or a different Linux distribution. If you're moving files between systems as an archive or zip you can end up with unexpected ownership. If you're running a default package based installation on Mint then /var/lib/emby and everything under it should have emby:emby ownership unless you've changed it. But then you would know what you've changed and why. System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/media/sentey/Rocket-Pro/Emby.Backups' is denied. ---> System.IO.IOException: Permission denied You need to make it so that the emby user can create files and directories in /media/sentey/Rocket-Pro/Emby.Backups. To do this the emby user needs to be able to navigate that path. It doesn't matter if emby owns 'Emby.Backups' if it can't access all of media, sentey and Rocket-Pro along the way. Emby doesn't have to own those and only needs r-x to cd to each.1 point

Something like a new tab on the users page where the default options can be configured would be awesome! That would then apply to all users created by plugins, as long as they don't override them. And also pre-select those configurations in the New User form in the admin menu. Would love that!1 point

I noticed the same scenario and would love for it to not let you fast forward anymore. But at least if you are doing it in the 10 seconds chunks it will catch up once it hits that "fast forward time", if that makes any sense. For example if you are live, you fast forward 10 seconds, it takes 10 seconds to catch up from my experience.1 point

Yes, not necessarily. But every option is a feature! A feature that your competitors don't have.1 point

since there is a lot of good discussion in this thread about the 2 different apps, let me add some more 0.2c (probably not worth 2c) - universal apps rarely work as well as native ones, such is the reality of software dev. and yet they are the most attractive to a software team as it minimizes fragmentation and effort, testing etc. Couple that with the Android API and programming (what I hear from others, thankfully never had to do it) and its no wonder. With that being said, here's an outlandish suggestion - what if Emby were to officially offer a version with - Kodi + an updated Embuary + Emby for Kodi next gen, all packaged together and optimized. This is obviously a lot more complex internally with multiple moving parts but it has the benefits of being the best in class at each level. Kodi's playbac engine is light years ahead of Exoplayer, and the skins are much more complete but also complex. This need not be pushed as an alternative client, just some way to optimize discovery and integrate everything. I've tried to set it up myself and the process of adding nodes/widgets etc is just too complicated. right now its a 1 man dev project, imagine if there were more resources.1 point

What's with Netbird, Netmaker, Twingate, Zerotier users? I think it's a very bad idea to commit to only this one proposal. If you want it dummy-user bulletproof, there is no way around a good Reverse Proxy solution in front of Emby. And yes, the server maintainer has to tinker more so that the users need to tinker less. If I had one wish, I would beg @Lukeand the dev team to implement a setting in client apps like in Immich to set up custom proxy headers. Pangolin Reverse Proxy is used in this example: You would set up the custom proxy header "P-Access-Token=xxx" and "P-Access-Token-Id=yyy" inside the Emby app and it can connect successfully to your Emby behind Pangolin Reverse Proxy with all the bells and whistles like 2FA, Passkeys etc since the Request Headers tell Pangolin: "Hey Pango, I'm a trusted app via your setup Headers for the resource requested but not able to use your Pangolin Login Prompt like a Browser". Currently you need to open a ton of paths like /emby/web/* or /emby/Items/* to be able to use an Emby app from the outside of LAN world via Reverse Proxy with an authentication layer in front of Emby. I made some progress over the past weeks. Movies TV Shows Overlays (done with ImageEnhancer/simple & raw plugin) It's working fine for me, but it's currently more a fork of Kometa rather than Kometa supporting an additional media center. It'll need more fine tuning, code separation as I preferred brute force over patience and trial and error. Most urgent philosophical questions/to dos: Plex obviously only generates collections for separate libraries. Emby has collections/boxsets that can span across libraries, e.g. shows, movies, actors in one collection. This creates naming issues, due to Plex differing per lib and Emby doesn't. I currently solved this by adding a unicode icon + the library name (e.g. Movies, Shows) for each collection, as otherwise shows and movie collections would be mixed up in the collections view. An alternative would be to use only the raw collection name, which would lead to collections being overwritten or getting out of sync. Overlays were realized by using the Emby ImageEnhancer (like Iconizer etc.) and exporting transparent pngs rather than merging the overlay with a poster, as I like to change posters and don't like losing the overlay + a simple plugin. Good? Bad Ugly? To realized the three ratings as seen in the screenshots, I've blatantly overwritten Emby's custom age restriction use it for the popcorn rating, as there are no custom fields. Smart playlists which append labels are currently a mixed bag of feelings, as Emby 4.9 will bring some kind of smart collections/playlists. Kometa appends labels/tags which are not actually used for creating/updating collections. Support for composers added, as Emby supports composers. But no composers are scraped from TMDB. Issues/ToDos Multiple studios lead to multiple overlay logos Season poster overlays for tv shows Episodes not started yet No overlays for thumbnails yet (seems Plex uses thums only for episodes) Constantly updating stdios with differing spelling, i.e. FOX -> Fox, will need a studio renamer Is someone interested to join work on the integration?1 point
