I understand what @GrimReaper has said. But Imo tvnext should be more like core functionality, SmartViews should be very interesting but more nice to have. From my pov I have learned to work around Emby “as it is”.5 points

I was looking around the forums and it appears the latest Emby beta has updated Intel drivers (Emby version 4.9.2.6 beta at the time of writing). I changed the image to the beta version within my docker compose (image: emby/embyserver:beta) and that did the trick. I can confirm hardware transcoding is now working Thanks all for the troubleshooting help!3 points

Indeed. As am I. I just an honest with myself and understand that just because its open source, doesn't automatically mean it's the best, or even really any good. Remember that Jellyfin is a fork of Emby from when it stopped being open source. Too many were just taking from it and not giving back. Jellyfin it just doesn't have the resources and developers to maintain it and fix it's lingering issues. Thus, it's... rough. People will excuse a lot for free, and for being open source.3 points

It looks like this has fixed the issue and the error was in relation to that bad file name which was causing it to not scan that drive. It is in the process of scanning the library now. Thank you so much!!3 points

Hi, just a heads up that the changes for this are not in 4.9.2.7 as a little more time is needed for this .Thanks.2 points

Probably not, but it will still be interesting...2 points

That's not the problem. The problem is that HLS HEVC in Apple devices requires fmp4 container and that is unsupported by Emby. The only possible fix is add hls in fmp4 container like Jellyfin and Plex.2 points

What is funny is that I am usually that guy. I will try to run open source software whenever possible (GPL v2 is my preferred license) but Emby & I just clicked. I had a particularly frustrating situation with Kodi and content updating. There wasn't a Jellyfin client for LG at the time so I ended up with Emby. There was no looking back after that.2 points

I mentioned it in another thread, but thought I'd put it here since this looks like a new section--just for posterity. Would like to have a bulk meta data editor function. For example, if I have 750 videos whose producing studio is the same, I want to select those videos and apply the name of the studio to those videos. Similarly, if there is a custom tag I want to apply to a subset of those movies, I want to be able to select them in bulk and apply the tag to those videos (instead of selecting them one by one).1 point

For some reason, HEVC streams ALWAYS seem to transcode to H264 with Emby when forcing native AVKit player. This is a waste of resources and isn't necessary. When I disable server transcoding, it attempts direct play but no video is displayed . Looking at the logs, I see ffmpeg missing "vtag:hvc1" which is an absolute requirement to get AVKit to recognise & play HEVC streams natively. Manually remuxing the exact same files with ffmpeg allows it to play perfectly fine in Emby (even Dolby Atmos and Vision logos show on TV with this setup). It's a rather trivial fix that I hope the devs here include soon as it will allow Emby be become much more performant and efficient and will improve handling of Dolby files on Apple devices.1 point

I really hope this feature becomes a reality. I am having issues with some of my users, and how things are displayed depending on when a user is added. I would like the user experience to be identical for all my users. I have had some mention that it looks different for them. I did some checking, and it turns out when I make a change to the Admin (add new category) it is placed at the bottom, when I want it in a specific order... IE.. I added a SPOTLIGHT section to highlight new additions, and they don't see it unless they scroll across. I would like it in the front, first thing they see. I have no way to do this for existing users. New users adopt the default layout. I went so far as to put a number ie... 01. Spotlight, 02. 2000-Present ect... thinking it would put them in alphabetical order automatically, but it doesn't even do that. That idea was a bust. Thank you for all the hard work you do on this project.... i do love to use EMBY.1 point

I've done a bit more research and it seems that my AAC is being decoded by the fire stick to PCM, and that's what the Denon receiver shows. Just making sure I'm getting the highest quality. Thanks for the quick reply!1 point

Yes, HLS streams using HEVC on Apple devices must be delivered in fragmented MP4 (fMP4) containers rather than MPEG-2 TS. In addition, each fMP4 segment carrying HEVC video needs to be properly identified with the vtag:hvc1 (or equivalently the hvc1 four-character code) so that Apple’s playback stack can correctly recognize and decode the HEVC video track. Failure to use fMP4 containers or to tag the segments with vtag:hvc1 may result in playback incompatibility on Apple platforms.1 point

Hello, I got it from watching the network request to /getStatus when going to the premiere settings page in browser's dev tools. The server ID used in that request is the same ID returned by /System/Info Did you make sure to wrap the mykey and myserverid in quotes? if not it wont be treated as a string and the request will fail do it like this: '{"key": "mykey", "serverId": "myserverid"}' if you do it like this the request will fail with 400: '{"key": mykey, "serverId": myserverid}'1 point

Yes the toast notification timeout has never worked for me in all the years I've used Emby... I've brushed it off countless times, I have a few little utilities I've made over the years with timeout parameters that are ignored. @Luke1 point

Yeah I see that but all of my other services are working fine. It is running via docker. I was gonna nuke it but, I fixed it ..... LOL .. Idk how .. i did a few scans of the database, it might have been a database error\issue. I was messing with Jellyfin earlier.1 point

Yes, I downloaded the IPTV m3u to my computer desktop then went through it and picked out each channel I wanted and copy & pasted the channels I wanted to an empty text folder. At the very top of the empty text folder you need to add this #EXTM3U and below that just paste all the channels you would like to see on your Emby server. I will pm you if I decide to let you know what IPTV service I use there are quite a few to choose from. You should always use a vpn and a Vlan for all smart devices that are connecting to Emby server is what I do, Emby server and smart devices all on 1 Vlan. Everything else on my network has it's own Vlan, each cell phone each tablet each everything has it's own Vlan. I run 3 vpns each different on 3 different routers each with there own switch for Vlans. I loved my HDhomerun setup with my CableCard but greedy Cable & Internet providers forced my hand. Now I'm saving $140 a month and I can afford to eat steak again.1 point

perhaps its fixed now but I'd posted about an issue with eac3 (esp with high bitrate) not playing properly, Luke suggested trying the Android app and that worked1 point

I actually figured it out with a little help from ChatGPT. It appears that I cannot record directly to a programmed SMB share within Emby. I got what I was trying to do to work by mounting a folder within the OS filesystem to a SMB share (/mnt/embyrecordings -> \\server\recordings) by adding the mount point config to /etc/fstab.1 point

Something like a new tab on the users page where the default options can be configured would be awesome! That would then apply to all users created by plugins, as long as they don't override them. And also pre-select those configurations in the New User form in the admin menu. Would love that!1 point

This doesn’t apply only to Mixed Content libraries. Even an exclusive Movie library type is messed up now with this new “accurate folder” representation structure. And many of us have a nested folder structure just for movies that is now far less functional with this change. I’d like to echo the question of “Who asked for this change”? Who was using folder structure and wondering why a single movie folder wasn’t opening to show just that movie? It is entirely unclear what problem this update was trying to solve or fix.1 point

To me it’s embarrassing that we still have to wait 7 plus seconds to tune tv channel while wmc 15 years ago could do it within a second. Emby dropped the ball they could have had thousands of new users if the tv channel change is fast. Slow channel change is one reason I have never recommended emby which is a disappointment. In few months tennis starts and there is tennis access 5 channels and the wait to channel change is annoying as it can be. Emby team has gotten all the priorities wrong.1 point

Ivé been using emby since the media browse days and i haven't been posting here or even reading the forum for the most part of that time. The reason is simple EMBY was by FAR the best software out there. No need to ask for or protest for anything until now. If the users that do not use the Folder View haven't seen any changes between 4.8 and 4.9 WHY WOULD THEY CARE?. They haven't even notice it. If this change was necesary for some other purpose JUST SAY SO. Mabye it's even reasonable, who knows. But please, don't insult us with the "acurate folder" excuse. I just cant's see anynoe asking for this change or the devs saying, "EH, let's fuc** up 15 years of folder structure recomendations so we can have a more acurate folder view which NOBODY ask for" Just don't see it. Most of us who use the folder view HATE IT NOW. So much that it has drag me to this forum and write more in the last month than in the 15 years before. And I'm not the only one.1 point
-
That's what i don't understand. If people that don't use the folder view haven't seen any changes WHY CHANGE IT. The explanation that "it gives a more acurate folder view" is almost INSULTING. My guess is that this is the by product of some other change de devs have made to 4.91 point

I use it EXCLUSIVELY. Long ago, I tied to use other tabs but, having a HUGE movie collection (8,000+ films) it's almos imposible to find something the way i want it. So I developed a Folder structure dividing movies first by decade, each decade by genre and each genre by subgenre. So I feel of watching a marvel movie I navigate to the Scifi Library, then to superheroes folder, go into de Marvel folder and there there are all the marcel movies which I could order anyway i wanted. (Release date mostly so i can see them in the order of the general plot). With 4.9 that is gone. There is NO WAY to order the movies within the marvel folder which makes this structure useless. Same process if I feel to watch a zombie movie of the 80's or a "Film Noir" of the 50's or a Wold War II movie of the 70's of a mafia movie of the 80's. This cannot be achived automaticly EVER and has taken YEARS to do following the directives given by the developers since de media browser days.1 point

But it's not just with mixed libraries. I don't have that kind of mixed library, but for example, a "library movies" library. Within that library, I have, for example, 500 movies, each in its own directory, and several nested by year or actor. With version 4.9, those nested directories are presented among those 500 movies, so I can't choose a movie by that actor or year; I have to navigate through all 500 movies. (With version 4.8, those nested directories appeared at the beginning of the library listing as a folder containing more movies, by year, actor...)1 point

Hi, ChatGPT spun me some tall tales about Emby Server having the ability to "display original title" but I can't seem to find that setting anywhere. Has this functionality (i.e. to display the title of the show in the original language) been implemented or on a wishlist? I'm learning Spanish a second language and it'd be great to display 'La Casa de las Flores' instead of 'The House of Flowers'. And 'Las Chicas del Cable' instead of 'Cable Girls'. Or in other words (and perhaps the ideal implementation for me) would be to pick which languages I am comfortable with titles being in, and then Emby displays native language if it's in that list, otherwise displays the preferred language. That way Spanish shows will show with a Spanish title, English shows with an English title, then if I have a French or German show on there it will display the English translated title.1 point

That would only be valid when there would be a TVnext entry in that list that would also exist for 10 years already and it would be ranging behind. The SmartPlaylist entry has 165 votes. When you sum up the votes from all the feature requests that TVnext fulfills or enables (by providing the technical basis), then you get a result of 315, which is almost double. And those requests are just a fraction of what it actually delivers in total. Eventually, it's not "a feature", it's a package of dozens of features. That there aren't more related requests in the Feature Request forum is surely also because these would have seemed too unrealistic to even post a request for, since the current live tv doesn't have a basis upon which such features could be built and delivered. So please Grim, excuse me contradicting. I haven't posted in this conversation for a long time, but in this case, the relations need to be set straight. SmartPlaylists being a feature that is more requested (by votes) or has a higher demand (in general) is a view that doesn't hold true in any way. At the bottom line, the point where it gets wrong is when trying to compare these two things in the first place.1 point

@Boodikii Your observations are correct. There's a whitelist for plugins which are allowed to have their configuration pages shown in certain client apps (some are showing all, though). There are two reasons: Technically, it's about showing only those config pages which are made for and are actually working fine on mobile layouts and then it's also about avoiding violations of store compliance rules. There are also community plugins on this list (as you have noticed). Whether a plugin can get on that list more like a case-by-case decision, but I'm not in charge, so that's all I can tell. Also for the question about adding entries to the per-user section, it's rather something for @Luketo answer.1 point

I'm kind of torn about the Plex users switching to Emby. On one hand, that's money for Emby. On the other, I can't stand the whining.1 point
-
I knew they had a paywall for something, but I assumed it was external media. From what I gather, if you want to watch your own media from outside your LAN, now you have to pay. On top of everything going through their server. It's like Microsoft or Google came up with this crap. What the devs should do is make a list of these people and start charging them extra monthly so that they feel more at home! In my circle of family and friends, I am a notorious bargain hunter (aka tight ass). I think I started using Emby and within a week or two purchased the lifetime license. I think Emby is a bargain and even for any hiccups - maybe even a headache or two - and it is head and shoulders above anything else I tried. There is no simpler way to share a library with elderly parents than Emby in my opinion. Now if there was just a way to remap remote crapware buttons, I would be in cinema nirvana...1 point

I don't think to many will switch to Emby. People will take a lot of abuse before wanting to change from what they are used to, humans are habit creatures after all. More importantly though is the fact that if you go through r/plex or any other forum the nobody mentions Emby and only Jellyfin even though they acknowledge that their equipment like Samsung most likely isn't supported. It's funny though, if you mention Emby to the Plex users you will often get a "but it costs money" back even though they happily shelled out a buttload for Plex.1 point

No it hasn't. There is still quite a large amount of effort for its implementation. Because a majority (probably a large one) will use and benefit from this feature.1 point

As of today, in order to play HEVC MKV content in Emby on Apple devices, we can only either use the MPV-based player or remux the MKV to MP4 with the appropriate hvc1 tag0 points
