To me it’s embarrassing that we still have to wait 7 plus seconds to tune tv channel while wmc 15 years ago could do it within a second. Emby dropped the ball they could have had thousands of new users if the tv channel change is fast. Slow channel change is one reason I have never recommended emby which is a disappointment. In few months tennis starts and there is tennis access 5 channels and the wait to channel change is annoying as it can be. Emby team has gotten all the priorities wrong.4 points

That's what i don't understand. If people that don't use the folder view haven't seen any changes WHY CHANGE IT. The explanation that "it gives a more acurate folder view" is almost INSULTING. My guess is that this is the by product of some other change de devs have made to 4.94 points

This doesn’t apply only to Mixed Content libraries. Even an exclusive Movie library type is messed up now with this new “accurate folder” representation structure. And many of us have a nested folder structure just for movies that is now far less functional with this change. I’d like to echo the question of “Who asked for this change”? Who was using folder structure and wondering why a single movie folder wasn’t opening to show just that movie? It is entirely unclear what problem this update was trying to solve or fix.3 points

Ivé been using emby since the media browse days and i haven't been posting here or even reading the forum for the most part of that time. The reason is simple EMBY was by FAR the best software out there. No need to ask for or protest for anything until now. If the users that do not use the Folder View haven't seen any changes between 4.8 and 4.9 WHY WOULD THEY CARE?. They haven't even notice it. If this change was necesary for some other purpose JUST SAY SO. Mabye it's even reasonable, who knows. But please, don't insult us with the "acurate folder" excuse. I just cant's see anynoe asking for this change or the devs saying, "EH, let's fuc** up 15 years of folder structure recomendations so we can have a more acurate folder view which NOBODY ask for" Just don't see it. Most of us who use the folder view HATE IT NOW. So much that it has drag me to this forum and write more in the last month than in the 15 years before. And I'm not the only one.3 points

I use it EXCLUSIVELY. Long ago, I tied to use other tabs but, having a HUGE movie collection (8,000+ films) it's almos imposible to find something the way i want it. So I developed a Folder structure dividing movies first by decade, each decade by genre and each genre by subgenre. So I feel of watching a marvel movie I navigate to the Scifi Library, then to superheroes folder, go into de Marvel folder and there there are all the marcel movies which I could order anyway i wanted. (Release date mostly so i can see them in the order of the general plot). With 4.9 that is gone. There is NO WAY to order the movies within the marvel folder which makes this structure useless. Same process if I feel to watch a zombie movie of the 80's or a "Film Noir" of the 50's or a Wold War II movie of the 70's of a mafia movie of the 80's. This cannot be achived automaticly EVER and has taken YEARS to do following the directives given by the developers since de media browser days.2 points

That would only be valid when there would be a TVnext entry in that list that would also exist for 10 years already and it would be ranging behind. The SmartPlaylist entry has 165 votes. When you sum up the votes from all the feature requests that TVnext fulfills or enables (by providing the technical basis), then you get a result of 315, which is almost double. And those requests are just a fraction of what it actually delivers in total. Eventually, it's not "a feature", it's a package of dozens of features. That there aren't more related requests in the Feature Request forum is surely also because these would have seemed too unrealistic to even post a request for, since the current live tv doesn't have a basis upon which such features could be built and delivered. So please Grim, excuse me contradicting. I haven't posted in this conversation for a long time, but in this case, the relations need to be set straight. SmartPlaylists being a feature that is more requested (by votes) or has a higher demand (in general) is a view that doesn't hold true in any way. At the bottom line, the point where it gets wrong is when trying to compare these two things in the first place.2 points

Hello, I'm using the latest version of Kodi 21.2 and the latest beta version of Emby For Kodi Next Gen 12.3.5. I successfully played an .iso file using the “Native (direct paths)” method in Emby For Kodi Next Gen. However, I noticed that the playback progress for .iso movies is not synced to the Emby server. Screenbits 2025-11-28_123102.mp4 As shown in the video, when I play an .iso movie, drag the progress bar to a point in the middle, and then stop the movie. Normally, the playback progress should have been synced to the Emby server. But when I open the web version of Emby and refresh, the playback progress is missing! And after restarting Kodi, the playback progress for the .iso movie even vanished entirely! I can confirm this is a bug in Emby for Kodi Next Gen. When Kodi plays .iso movies via SMB mounting, everything functions normally. However, when Kodi is paired with Emby for Kodi Next Gen, the progress disappears and fails to sync to the Emby server. Please update Emby for Kodi Next Gen and fix this bug. Thank you!1 point

Hello, I'm currently using the LDAP extension to manage my users. It already provides some default options that can be configured for new users provisioned by this plugin. Though some of them are missing. Those are: Hide this user from login screens when connected remotely Allow this user to change their password and profile image Allow camera upload (I'd like to disable this for new users) Hide this user from login screens on devices they've never signed into (I'd like to enable this for new users) Allow subtitle downloading (I'd like to disable this for new users) I'd really love to see those checkboxes! Is the LDAP extension open-source? If so I'd like to contribute to it myself, but I couldn't find it on GitHub. Best regards!1 point

Yeah, I noticed that too and really miss the old layout — it was way more convenient for sorting Live TV recordings separately. Hopefully they bring that page back in a future update.1 point

I've just got Emby Premiere a few hours ago and literally registered here to raise same topic - so, I'd really appreciate if missing (especially those Mantra mentioned) settings could be added to the LDAP extension to.1 point

@sa2000 Can help provide you some instructions to capture memory statistics. Interesting that it just started though, a lot of the 4.9 memory usage issues were immediate on upgrade. Please also provide a full server log and not just a snippet, it's an interesting error but I'm not sure if it's related, it could be.1 point

Do they have an API for it? Can see the other major databases have free API for it. Will look into using that. Can see there is a database for quiz facts as well, gives me an idea. Btw. is there a plan to improve the toast notification system?1 point

Hi. If you do that, we cannot put the plugin in the catalog. You'll need to use a publicly available API to gather your data. Thanks. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/wiki/Development-Policy1 point

Just a little update. I'm now testing audio extractor boxes and they seem to work so far. Unfortunately I ordered the Amazon Basic one first which can't handle 4k60 HDR so that is going back as soon as I have a proper audio extractor box.1 point

If you intend to keep using the plugin then I would disable the auto merging options. If you intend to switch to the core feature, then I would remove the plugin. Just keep in mind that any content that you merge or split manually will have to be handled manually forever. this includes items that have been merged or split by the plugin. It did it in a way that is equivalent to manually merging and splitting.1 point

The best way I've found to ensure perfect matching every time is to include IDs from either imdb of TheMovieDB in the folder name. Depending on which Superman you're talking about that'd be: /movies/Superman (1978) [tmdbid=1924]/Superman (1978).mkv Or /movies/Superman (1941) [tmdbid=95414]/Superman (1941).mkv /movies/The Karate Kid (1984) [tmdbid=1885]/The Karate Kid (1984).mkv If you use tools like Radarr, you can change the 'Movie folder format' to include these automatically when importing media: {Movie Title} ({Release Year}) [tmdbid={TmdbId}]1 point

I have one "mixed library" in my hole collection I use it for those movies and tv shows within the same "universe" For example, I have a Star Wars folder. Inside, i have a movies folder and a tv shows folder. All the movies are in its folder and all the tv shows are inside its folder. Same for Star Trek, the Marvel or DC universes I spoke of above, or Stephen King based media, Now, with "Alien Earth" series i created a new one for "Alien" content, etc...1 point
-
But it's not just with mixed libraries. I don't have that kind of mixed library, but for example, a "library movies" library. Within that library, I have, for example, 500 movies, each in its own directory, and several nested by year or actor. With version 4.9, those nested directories are presented among those 500 movies, so I can't choose a movie by that actor or year; I have to navigate through all 500 movies. (With version 4.8, those nested directories appeared at the beginning of the library listing as a folder containing more movies, by year, actor...)1 point

Yes. The premier key is tied to the server. There's nothing stopping you from running several instances of the server, each with their own key. You could even run them on the same system using docker if you wanted.1 point

I'm currently at the very beginning at making a plugin for movie trivia. Plan is to make a plugin that scrapes imdb for trivia, save it as SRT files to then be shown as subtitles in Emby. If any one has any ideas for features for this then please say do.1 point

Emby Premiere Frequently Asked Questions What is Emby Premiere? How do I purchase a subscription/membership? What are the different membership options? How do I get my Premiere Key and what do I do with it when I do? How do I cancel my subscription? What if I lose my key? How do I upgrade my membership? Is my Emby Premiere Key still valid with Emby 4.0? Can I use my key on more than one server? My Emby Key Says it is Invalid or Missing How do I cancel my Premiere subscription? The only subscription level you should ever need to cancel is the Monthly one as it is the only one that automatically recurs. If you wish to cancel this recurring payment, you do so in one of the following ways based on how you originally purchased it: PayPal - Log in to your PayPal account and go to the "Recurring Payments" section. Find the recurring payment for your Emby Premiere subscription (look for a payment to "Emby Media") and select the option to stop it. Pay with card/Stripe - Click on the subscription shown in the Emby Premiere page on your server dashboard and follow the instructions (see below). An email will be sent to the key owner with a link to click to perform the actual cancellation. Within an app - Log in to the store account for the app that was used and you should be able to manage the recurring payment from there. Exact steps depend on the store involved. Your subscription status as well as the status of the Premiere device limit can be seen in the "Emby Premiere" page of the server dashboard: If you have an issue not covered above, please send an email to billingsupport@emby.media1 point

I figured out the problem by accident: the hard drive on which the movies were based started failing with bad sectors. I was in a hurry to post questions on the forum. But, thank you so much for the feedback1 point

The third option would be - depending on the number of unmerged items - to merge those manually, if feasible, and continue using built-in feature as community plugin support can be dropped any time (as the original plugin's was until someone picked it up - which is by no means guatantee that it'll happen again, in particular since multi-versioning is a part of Emby core now, interest will inevitably diminish) or plugin cease to function with any version bump;1 point

I found the problem. My NIC in my computer seems to have an issue where it slows to 0 for brief periods but long enough to stall a higher bit-rate video. Strange thing is that when using iperf it doesn't happen. Seems to be related to SMB. I tried another NIC and the problem seems to have gone away. Thanks1 point

Sorry just got round to checking a few seasons i think this may be sorted now because I discovered the emby android app - previously I was using "emby for android tv" app and that doesn't show 3 dots on a season when entering that season, but the emby android one does - plus the behaviour when looking at the seasons list seems more consistent there too1 point

Had to resort to Google as the ~7 passing references found with the forum search. Seems to be a way to build collections/playlists based on customizable criteria. I am sure I would use that at least once a decade...1 point

OK, so I tried copying the files out and waiting like 10 minutes and F5'ing the emby to force a refresh and that did not work. I also tried copying the files out and forcing a scan then copying them back in and that didn't seem to work. However, copying them out and then waiting over night and copying them back did indeed seem to work. Not sure what the difference is. It is possible that the scan was included in the wait time, I stayed up late and am still a little foggy as I am writing this, however, I have several movies that got fixed from this process, so I can vouch for it. It isn't like just 1 worked.1 point

Hey - I didn't, it's a fresh install from the AUR, [here](https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/emby-server/). I also reinstalled, still has it. -- Edit: I'm using Theater 3.0.21 -- Edit 2: Solved - I've found the setting in General - toggled from 'None' to 'Default' and back, sounds don't play. Thanks1 point

I sideloaded the 2.1.28 version from the apk onto my Nvidia Shield and can confirm it fixed the error 15 on the trailers, I found the link posted by @ebrin a different thread and it worked just fine.1 point

Is there plans on the roadmap for OpenID. I have searched but not found any indication this is in development. With many admins taking up SSO through Authelia or Authentik to enhance security it would be great for Emby to support it. One of the easier open standards is OpenID which the aforementioned support. Users could continue to use LDAP if they wish while others can use the arguably better SSO experience.1 point

Sounds like the biggest blocker for SSO/OAuth is that it needs to work on so many systems. For systems that don't have password managers/passkeys, etc., why not display a QR code for mobile sign in?1 point

Please click "Like this" and share it if you want to support this feature. Thank you ! Hello, There is a Kodi addon call "gdrive" from ddurdle who can read videos (original and transcoding version) directly from Google Drive. Why not build on this idea to integrate Google Drive as source directly in Emby Server ? In addition, Emby could generate automatically the STRM files from one or many Drive folders. And transcodings are already available with Drive so no need to transcode with Emby server. What do you think ? ------------- Three reasons why this feature will be useful and awesome: 1. Cloud is the future and today the cost is affordable. I have a Google Drive Unlimited for $50/month (ie $600/year) and I have unlimited space that is secured against crashes. Knowing the cost of hard drive and the cost of power consumption, its a very good deal. 2. Google Drive transcode video file. This provides different stream quality like Youtube (1080p, 720p, 480p and 360p) and the "image quality/compression ratio" is very satisfying. I can play 720p video on my poor 4 Mbits DSL. 3. You don't need to have a big server. Personally, I opted for a little dedicated server (Kimsufi 2G) for the cost and I can leave it run 24/7! Furthermore, me and my friends can watch movies from anywhere! Basics features that should be included: GOOGLE APPS OAUTH2 for activation and permission playing transcoded version (MP4 360p, 480p, 720p & 1080p) directly into Emby's app playing original file (avi, mkv, mp4) directly into Emby's app import embedded subtitles porwerful script module for multiple folder scanning and STRM generating1 point

It's a complex subject and I wanted to respond to some other things first and see whether I'd be still in the mood to explain In fact, the recent couples of posts are covering so many things that I'm not quite sure where to start. Let's go for the ramdisk part first: First of all: Sure! We have all learned that we can improve performance of certain processing tasks by things like using SSDs instead of conventional HDs and ultimately even using RAM disks. What are those "certain tasks" that can be accelerated by such measures? => IO-bound tasks, i.e. tasks where the limiting factor is IO throughput Is this actually a problem that we're having with transcoding that we'd need to solve? => No - not at all. Even with the fastest hw accelerations or even when assuming one that would be infinitely fast - the source data needs to come from somewhere. It doesn't come from RAM - it comes from some disk. The output bandwidth when transcoding is usually much smaller than the input, so what comes from some disk storage (network or local) can easily be saved to another disk storage. Are there any reasons at all, why we would want to accelerate disk IO? Now, let's assume an odd case, like 5 transcodings of videos from 5 different source disks, with the results all landing at our single disk with the transcoding-temp folder. Even in that case, we would need an extremely powerful hardware acceleration to saturate the transcoding-temp disk's, IO capacity. And there, we would have each of those 5 transcodings running at a multiple (e.g. 5x or even 50x) of the required transcoding speed (1x). By default, we are running transcodings "as fast as possible". That's not really a good thing, because this will always cause to max out one of the following resources: CPU processing, system memory IO, disk IO, hwa IO or hwa processing - to its limit, even though that wouldn't be required in any way to improve the user experience. It's often a waste of resources - e.g. when a user stops watching after 5 minutes and we have already transcoded the whole video.. To deal with those things and use resources more wisely, we have introduced throttling - just the opposite of "as fast as possible", for all those cases where transcoding is running much faster than needed. Looking at the other end: None of all those cases where transcoding is too slow, can be accelerated by using a RAM disk. Actually, this has just the opposite effect: it can slow down your transcodings instead of accelerating. And not just that: A ramdisk can even negatively affect Emby server operation in general. The problem with the throttling we have is that it is binary - like a refrigerator: there's just ON or OFF switching over time. While it's on, it still runs with maximum speed. Transcoding itself requires a lot of memory IO - all this IO bandwidth will be taken away and not available for regular Emby operation. And now you want to add a ramdisk on top of this, creating even additional memory IO for writing and reading? Very bad idea! The more shoulders on which we can put these things, the better - the right "shoulder" for transcoding temp is a disk. Even when the CPU does the transfer of memory in either case - it's still totally different: RAM is just not optimized for such access patterns. When you use the RAM in this way, you will permanently flush the memory caches (specifically L3) with other data, and this can in turn very badly affect sw filtering operations where the same memory needs to be accessed repeatedly. Edit: And as mentioned, also Emby Server and all other server operations. In Summary With a RAM disk, you would: Either not accelerate anything or at best, accelerate something that is already running much faster than needed Use memory IO bandwidth and CPU cycles (for memcopy) - which are badly needed for other operations Negatively impact overall server operation1 point
