  1. I haven’t made a post in a while, so here’s what’s been happening since last time. Library Posters Added Library Poster feature, it does not require any Patreon supporter role. You can now set Library Posters directly from ACdb.tv. That being said, if you don't want to install the plugin you can check out the gallery anyway and add them manually. If you have created some library posters, please share! This just launched yesterday so there is not that much variety yet in terms of styles. I’ve added posters for many of the most popular library names for variety of languages. If you have the plugin installed you can click on one of your libraries to search for posters that might fit that library name. You can easily edit the text to your own language or change the image for supported posters in the Art Department (see below). Collection Backdrops The Collection Backdrops feature lets you upload and link backdrops to your posters. Any collection using that poster will then display the associated backdrop. The Art Department Every good studio needs an Art Department. It lets you upload images as usual, but also add overlays and text to them. It can be nice when you want your posters to share a consistent style. You don't need an account to download your creations, but we sure do appreciate if you share them. Click the edit icon after saving to make a new version in the same style. Just click on the image to swap it out and update the text to make a new poster. You can also use templates from posters that have been created using this method. Look for the edit icon on posters, click it to make your own edit and save a new version. Improved Poster Handling One of the most common issues for users is that posters are not showing. The plugin now relies less on metadata refresh and sets posters directly. If you still experience issues, check out the FAQ for poster tips. There have been so many cool posters and interesting collections uploaded recently, check out some great new collections and posters. Thanks to the creators and supporters! Join the Discord if you like more frequent updates and there is also a feed with new posters and collections.

  3. Hardcover is being developed as a Goodreads alternative. It may be the best option moving forward for metadata that isn't owned by Amazon. There is an API, though still be developed. https://docs.hardcover.app/api/getting-started/

  4. If your solution to increase performance is to remove GUID/UUID from links without some equivalent replacement, then the solution is broken. There is no scenario where you replace security with performance gains in a web hosting solution.

  5. This was brought to my attention by a post on Reddit in r/selfhosted just a few hours ago. It seems images are available by the itemid even when unauthenticated. The OP claims to have attempted to contact the emby team regarding this and a few other issues with no response. I'm making this post to raise awareness as not everyone who frequents these forums will have seen the post on Reddit, and as it is posted publicly elsewhere it definitely deserves attention on the main forum. This is very troubling as it means that content that's available on the server can be determined without being logged in. Even more troubling if you're using emby for family pictures and videos as the pictures themselves can be viewed, and the thumbnail for videos can be viewed as well. I have tested this myself and can verify that it is a major problem. I could see cover art for movies, as well as pictures from my family photos library without being logged in. It seems that itemid's are incremental, so it's arbitrary to just guess a value until you get a valid hit. Leaking what movies and shows are on a server is definitely not great, but leaking actual personal content is just unacceptable in my opinion. Until something is done to address this I would not recommend using emby for personal/sensitive content if your server is publicly exposed. Steps to reproduce below. Replace <itemid> with the numerical value of a library item to test it while not logged in. https://<hostname:port>/emby/Items/<itemId>/Images/Primary

  6. Emby’s music experience has long left much to be desired, and frankly, it hasn’t improved significantly over the years. I’ve come to believe that a standalone client for music might be the way forward, but since that isn’t currently planned, it’s worth exploring what’s possible today. AudioMuse‑AI (GitHub link) is a new self-hosted tool that performs sonic analysis of your music library. While this kind of functionality was historically associated with Plex, AudioMuse‑AI is breaking new ground. It’s still in beta, but already supports Jellyfin and — thanks to the similarities in their APIs — can partially work with Emby. Here’s what it can do: - Creates a database of sonic analysis for your music library. - Lets users define their own sonic fingerprints based on listening habits. - Automatically generates playlists based on mood or keywords, using Ollama or other services. During my testing on Emby: - I was able to connect to Emby, access my music library, and generate a complete sonic analysis. On my hardware, this took about 72 hours. - Ollama integration had issues but Automatic playlists could be generated using the Gemni integration. I am sure i did some wrong configurations. I hope there is a plan to integrate Docker Model Runner to avoid such issues in the future. - I could not save the generated playlists to Emby. It seems this is where Emby and Jellyfin APIs are not compatible. There are still many improvements and bug fixes needed (see issues and road map). Without dedicated Emby support, this service can’t yet be fully utilized in the Emby ecosystem. It’s important to recognize that there’s only so much a single developer can do. Full Emby integration would not just require explicit use of the Emby API, but also a plugin that allows each user to create their own dynamic playlists directly within the interface. I’m sharing this because AudioMuse‑AI is highly relevant and has the potential to significantly improve the music listening experience for self-hosted users. It’s an exciting step forward — and hopefully a glimpse of what a fully integrated music experience in Emby could look like.

  7. Couple message system feature requests. They may already exist but the term "message" is so prevalent its hard to find, feel free to point me to other requests if they already exist Add the ability to add messages to every user, that they see the next time the log in. Ideally they would have an expiration date. For instance, "Server will be shut down for maintenence on MM/DD/YYYY" that would expire the day after. So if they didnt log in, they would never get it. Add ability for users to send a message to the admins. Add ability to send a message as an email ~thanks

  8. Would be nice if the server could serve a custom logo to the clients, i.e replace the emby logo with something relevent to the server. This would look really neat.

  10. If I access EmbyWatch remotely I won't get the data though, correct? Unless I'm connected via my VPN. It's not a deal breaker but the advance to get stats directly via Emby is that it doesn't require a second service running. I'll try it out and see if it's worth the extra software and steps over the Playback Reporting plugin which is all built in.

  15. We want them to work too. We are seeing something similar reported with the Samsung app. We are embedding the official youtube sdk and it must be keeping some data that eventually causes this problem. That's why clearing app data resolves it. Hopefully this will not be a long term problem.

  16. I think I solved the problem. I was reviewing my log file and found an error accessing one of my libraries. I removed that library and now have no problem refreshing the guide. Not sure why this would affect the plugin in the middle of the refresh, but it did.

  19. Did I miss something or this will work only for web app ? I think what people'd like is a branding option in the settings that will allow us to custom a bit the Emby app across the platform, probably change the logo while keeping "Powered by Emby' somewhere and forcing a color theme to their users perhaps Just changing the logo on the web app isn't really what we're looking for

  20. For anyone else following this topic, Oratorian and I are doing bug-testing on the development branch. 1.0.6 has fixed audio issues for both FLAC and TrueHD. Everything is playable, currently debugging PGS subtitles (ASS subtitles work though). This coder is very talented, and overall this solution is awesome.

  21. New Version Submitted! Hey everyone! New update is on its way to Google Play (approval 24–72h). Embywatch → v1.1.REV-21 New: Added support for Jellysatt as an external service. Added a short introductory tutorial to guide new users through the main features. Improvements: Removed the left sidebar menu and moved it to a bottom sheet for better usability. Stay tuned – it’ll be live soon!

  24. The fact that we do not have a log entry for timer trigger created to fire in 179 minutes and 209 minutes with these log entries indicates either: * The guide schedule did not have these episodes for the 14th, or * The series recordings settings were for New Episodes Only and the guide did not have that indicator set for the 2 airings, or * The episodes as identified in the guide / schedule metadata, match ones already in the recording library (or any library if the series option to check all libraries was selected) 2025-10-14 19:00:54.870 Info LiveTV: Creating recording timer for 3c523f5a9f6ac3bf29a0032b36ac6e62, Cheers. 25. Hi, I would say that we'd like to do both. Ultimately, we should get the subtitle appearance settings into the app and have both players use them - emby subtitle settings, not apple tv subtitle settings. But also, if we were to add our own srt rendering to the native player, then this would be a good way to keep as much playback on the native player as possible.

  29. For anyone who may be interested, User Oratorian took it upon themselves to create their own Watch Together solution. While it requires running Python on a separate machine, Linux or Windows, it works. Only released a few days ago, so still under development, but I have it in a working state. As of today (10/23/2025), I had to download his most recent config file from GitHub instead of the Release ZIP, but it's pretty straightforward to get going. Hoping this helps someone out there.

  31. This is most likely because the program updates the library view after editing metadata. In doing so, it resets the scroll position. This is normal behavior in the current version. Also, remembering the last position after editing will need to be added in a future update.

  32. This would be actually quite comfortable. Maybe not with a file, but with the link to the server + accessdata encoded in a QRcode for example. So you can give your users a printed paper they can keep at home. They just make a picture and can login that way. I always wanted to make such thing for access to my private matrix-server because people struggle setting the clients up. But i assume that this is way too QoL and there is plenty of other things that would be more important to work on.

  33. I have resolved it myself. In case anyone else has the issue. The settings in the collections plugin had disabled themselves. In the settings I went to Library's the clicked on the Collections plugin. Under 'Collection Metadata Downloaders' 'TheMovieDb' had become unticked. Under 'Collection Image Fetchers' everything was unticked. I reticked all and saved and now it all works.

  36. EmbyWatch - A brilliant app built by a community user! One of the best things about the Emby community is the creativity that comes from it. Every so often, one of our users takes their love for media servers to the next level and builds something that makes life easier for the rest of us. Today, we’re excited to share EmbyWatch, a brand-new Android app developed by community member @asgard25It is an an incredible example of what happens when passion and innovation meet. A User-Built Tool, Made for Admins What makes this story special is that EmbyWatch wasn’t created by a company or a professional app studio. It was created by one of YOU! — just someone who wanted to make managing a server more intuitive and accessible from anywhere. Want to be even more impressed? This is only the second Android app that asgard25 has developed! EmbyWatch is designed to help server admins and advanced users keep track of what’s happening on their Emby setup in real time. It’s not about playback or browsing media, it’s about giving you the tools to monitor, manage, and control your server, all from your phone. Powerful Features at a Glance EmbyWatch brings a surprising amount of functionality for such a young app. Here’s what it can do: Real-time monitoring: See who’s watching what, where they’re streaming from, and how much bandwidth they’re using — all live. User management: View your users, check activity history, and even send messages directly to connected users. Device overview: Identify every connected client, from smart TVs to mobile apps, with connection times and device info. Library insights: Quickly review all your media libraries with detailed counts and metadata. Task control: Run or schedule maintenance tasks like library scans and metadata updates remotely. Plugin visibility: See your installed plugins and available updates. Logs and server details: Access logs, CPU load, uptime, and more — wherever you are. Notifications and widgets: Stay informed with live alerts and optional Android widgets for quick monitoring. For anyone managing a shared server, EmbyWatch feels like having a live dashboard in your pocket. A True Example of Community Ingenuity We love seeing users like asgard25 take their experience with Emby and turn it into something that benefits everyone. EmbyWatch really is a reflection of how open and flexible the Emby ecosystem can be when people put their ideas into action. This project shows exactly what makes our community special, a shared passion for improving and creating! So whether you’re managing your own home setup or running a multi-user server, EmbyWatch offers a simple, powerful way to stay connected to your system. Huge thanks to asgard25 for sharing EmbyWatch with the community and for showing what’s possible when creativity meets passion. We’re proud to see our users building tools like this that make Emby not just a media server, but a thriving ecosystem shaped by its fans. If you’re an admin or an advanced user, check out EmbyWatch on Google Play and see how it can make managing your server easier than ever. We can’t wait to see what asgard25 — and others in our amazing community — build next. View the full article

  37. Is there plans on the roadmap for OpenID. I have searched but not found any indication this is in development. With many admins taking up SSO through Authelia or Authentik to enhance security it would be great for Emby to support it. One of the easier open standards is OpenID which the aforementioned support. Users could continue to use LDAP if they wish while others can use the arguably better SSO experience.

There is no way to roll back from the HotFix. 2. The HotFix is per public release build. If you sign up for this HotFix, you will receive all updates to it until the next public release and that's it. If you want to partake in future HotFixes, you'll need to join them as they appear. 3. There is no way to leave the HotFix process once you join it but you can ignore updates to the HotFix images if you don't want to install them. 4. When the next public release drops, you will receive it like usual. 5. HotFix images are not Google certified. The next official release will have all certifications. The negative side affect we've noticed from this so far are listed below and others may appear as time goes on: a. You won't be able to install or update Disney+ from the Playstore if you haven't installed it yet or do a Factory reset on this image. b. HD Homerun DRM channels will not work. This thread is not for asking questions like the following and any questions like this will be deleted.: 1. Why isn't xyz included in this hotfix. 2. When will this be released as an official release. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/563132/shield-experience-upgrade-92-hotfix-image/

  41. As much as I'd like to put my own branding on the server, I can see why the Emby team would want to keep their own logo to. @AlanQdoes have a good idea with the Powered By Emby branding option which I'd be happy to have, I know other software also has this, i.e., if you use a custom logo on Portainer, it shows Powered By Portainer underneath it. I think it should be a Premiere only option to. Just a quick logo here as an example of what custom branding could look like;

  42. Have a look at IPTVBoss. I highly recommend it. It can work with this API and create m3u and xmltv files.

  43. And we appreciate it. But at least premium members should have an option to show logo. We also work hard to pay the subscription price

  44. I wrote a large piece of software for one of our products we sell, I simply drop in a branding plugin which overrides the built in default branding. I don't see why this should be a difficult task for emby (but then again I haven't seen the code), request the branding image from the server, if it exists then use that if not use the built in image.

  45. Seconding this. I would like to set 1080 to default so users have to select 4k. Currently they are playing the 4k file when they want 1080 or 720 because they forget about the drop down.
