  1. AMD has horrible quality and support when it comes to hardware transcoding. You'd be better off getting a cheap quadro, or Intel Arc A310/A380 for the job.

  2. From what I read hdr10 is also supported. And dv does work with intel igpu and discrete https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000095693/graphics.html Like said earlier, for atmos and vision to work, you need to install the Dolby vision and Dolby atmos apps

  4. @Lukeas noted by others, the newest app layouts are inconsistent with the long standing ones. Example of existing apps where the Director is clearly shown, and often clickable (minus ATV app) Example of new app layouts where the Director is notably missing from the same screens. The ask is that for both Android and Windows (TV Mode) - the Director is displayed AND clickable allowing for a quick "jump to" page Thanks.

  5. There was a big exoplayer update the other day. It's a little too new at this point to jump in right away but after it's had a couple maintenance updates we'll take a look at it. Hopefully that will help with this.

  6. Ok so my request is to be able to search each library separate as it stands when you search it searches everything, and if like me you have 30k music tracks 10k books/comics 10k episodes and 10k+ movies, searching is slow so is it possible to have a search section for each library individually

  7. Hello, Is it possible that in a version of emby a "ping pong" is performed in websocket to maintain a connection via a reverse proxy? Let me explain. Apart from reverse proxies such as caddy or traefik (for those I know) there is no real timeout for websockets. For reverse proxies like haproxy or nginx, the timeout is defined either by default or by the user. In the case of haproxy or nginx, if someone pauses a video that lasts more than an hour (a movie, for example), the websocket timeout will occur before the end of the movie. Or if, when playing an episode of a series lasting 40 minutes, the viewer pauses the video for 20 minutes, the connection will be closed before the end of the episode. Having the client send a message and the server reply every X seconds/minutes would eliminate the problem and prevent the connection from staying open for 1 hour for no reason, as in the nginx configuration. Also, I saw a message saying that if a connection was closed unexpectedly, for resource reasons, there was no attempt to reconnect. Why not set up a number of reconnection attempts? For example, the client tries to reconnect 3 times, and if none of the attempts work, the connection is aborted. This would, I think, allow better websockets management and avoid connections being open for hours. Or even when changing networks (LTE->wifi or wifi->LTE), this would make it easier to re-establish the connection than quitting the application and reopening it. To avoid sending just a "ping" and a "pong", useful information can be sent through websockets when the client supports them, such as the position of the video playback (which is currently sent via http), because a request via websocket is faster than an http request and sends, with the same information in the body, less data than an http request.

  8. Hi, There are a lot of filters available and we can do every possible filtering combinations today with that. Still one missing, the possibility to filter by country. Today there are a lot of local productions and it will be fun to filter for instance all movies coming from China, Russia or France! Think would be great!

  9. Is this doable by some sort of plugin ? Maybe add your imdb credentials and then be able to rate movies here and have them on imdb as well (not talking about sorting here, just rating stuff)

  11. Unless I'm being a bit blind (highly possible!), I'd love a way to hide a couple of the top green navigation items without hacking it in myself. For example, in Movies I don't want the 'Trailers' item to appear for any profile and for TV I don't need the 'Upcoming' nav link. Obviously not a major issue but thought it would be a nice thing to have, perhaps allowing them to be re-ordered like the home page items but again just a nice extra,

  12. I just want to bring up attention to AV1 as additional target codec for transcoding and comverting video. It's supposed to further reduce bitrates, which can be great in situations with limited bandwidth. Hardware players start to have support, with the Max version of Amazon's 4k FireTV sticks being a very popular and cheap option. Hardware Encoding is coming for sure too. So if/when HEVC gets added for transcoding, AV1 should be kept in mind too. And for conversations, things might actually be already there, since ffmpeg does have a encoder integrated.

  13. I hit "play all" on a collection and it doesn't show the next film in "Next Up" after I quit out of it. This is apparently intended behaviour, and the same applies to playlists. This is absurd. Why even have the "play all" option? Who's sitting down to watch a full collection's worth of films, or a full playlist? I have playlists for The Prisoner for its various episode orders, and there's no way I'm getting through them in one sitting. I was going to make that my next show to watch but if I'm going to have to keep track manually of my progress through the playlist it makes the playlist fairly pointless TBH. There's no reason playlists or collections shouldn't show up in Next Up.

  14. Now for the embarrassing part - I'm always falling asleep watching something - then have a complete mind blank what i was watching the next day until the next episode is out and i realise im missing something. Would it be possible to add a 'recently watched' section where you can see all items you've recently viewed in order? Probably more applicable to TV I guess,

  15. Hello! So i have started a project for making an Emby client app that can run on Enigma2/Linux based STBs. Its written in pure python. Those STBs are mainly made for DVB perception, but also is possible to play media on them. Mainly they support by hardware H264 and H265 codecs. All the rest (except the newest high efficient codecs) plays fine by software. I am in the beginning of the project. Try to comply with the new Emby clients UI design guidelines and expectations, but also put my own twist to some places. Currently the only ready screen is the home.... Here is a preview...

  16. I would love the option to store Emby's database in MySQL - I have a setup that serves around 30 people and I feel that there would be real performance gains by using a proper relational backend over SQLite (I'm presuming). On top of this it would make life easier for me when reporting on watched status a cross users.

  17. I have done it before but you sent a direct link. But I will just wait for the update to come through. I hope this update for the Android app goes well, because right now I am dreading the day you guys pull the plug on the Android TV version, which continues to work well!

  18. @cochize1Glad that it worked! If client has "auto" selected and their actual bandwidth is lower than 10mbps, stream will start, but it will pause for buffering frequently. If they select manual, lower quality, it should work just fine, this qualitydetection.js won't even be called in that case (at least from what I understand from emby's minified js code).

  19. I couldn't find a way to summarise this in the title very succinctly, so let me explain: Some shows go literally years between seasons, which means that with the current behaviour they can end up near the very bottom of the "Continue watching" list (if they appear at all), way out of view of the user who probably wants to know that a new episode of the show they binged a year or two ago has just dropped. Take Severance as a good example, or better still "King of the Hill" which went 15 years without a new episode. I know there's a "Latest TV Shows" section, but this is library-wide and doesn't account for what the current user is actively watching. Ideally, it would be good if the "Continue Watching" list was a little more intelligent about where it positioned new episodes of shows if the new episode is indeed the next one the user is due to watch. If that's not possible, it would be good to have a way of filtering "Latest TV Shows" to only shows that a user has watched. Essentially, I want an easy way to be able to see/know when a new episode of a show I care about has released, tailored to what I've watched.

  21. It would be nice to be able to see where a folder is at specifically being scanned, yes. Percentage is nice but 1% could vary from 5 minutes to 2 hours so being able to look at logs and know where exactly in the alphabet would be a plus. Also, it *could* help detect problems where specific files or titles are causing scanning issues. And computers are smart enough to scan/organize folders from A-Z so why not let us scan that way?

  22. My TV doesn't support HDR10+, so I could not test it. 25. I would suggest to make it not visible on main screen. But rather on top after of each playlist. So when opening a playlist to make it continue as per list. So you won't need to scroll the entire list. Don't know if possible but it would be good to keep a tracker of the last viewed in a playlist and store that per playlist. I am watching a tv show with over 300 episodes. and its getting pretty annoying to resume. A button on top of the list to continue with last viewed would be good enough. It is VERY much required! Rather sooner than later perhaps experimental?

  31. I am the server admin and, as stated before, I don't care what others like/dislike. I don't want to see another user ratings, just mine. We already have IMDB and RT ratings built into the pages. Why can't I put my personal ratings in? I just want to see MY ratings. To me, I'm the only one that counts. It's my opinion on the movie and I'd like a good way to sort my favorites from the chaff. Every item on every website in the world has a rating next to it. I want that too... along with a ratings dB that is kept on my server. I don't need to share my ratings with anyone else. If it could transfer that rating to Trakt, that would be a bonus.

  32. Thank you for the kind words! Sadly it can't be added to the catalog because it doesn't support all Emby servers as it uses Skia for the drawing only and doesn't have a fallback for those that don't. One of these days i might look into adding that.

  33. I have been forced, kicking and screaming, to switch to the regular Android app. It has improved although there are some glitches but the Android TV app has become unstable enough so the playback on about half my media will suddenly glitch and exit all the way out to my Shield's home menu. I have given up on getting Emby to fix the Android TV app and that is forcing me to the newer app. There are some advantages and a lot of what I detested about the new app has been improved to the point where it seems I can use it comfortably. I suggest that everybody that can switch to the new Android app as its player has many many fewer problems and I have not seen any video/audio glitches in the last day or so. That is a HUGE improvement for me. I still have the old app installed on my Shield but I now doubt I will feel I have to use it much. Thanks, Emby, for having a correctly working ver available but I do wish the "new" player was available on the old app. But I guess it is not unreasonable to create a whole new app instead of fixing one that has been fixed so many time before. BTW: There is one annoying glitch in the interface that I will open a new thread about if it continues. I am using the enhanced home screen and i have next up legacy as the first row on my home screen. The problem is that if I play an item form "next up" that is at position 6 or beyond and I let it play all the way to the end when it exits back to next up and the list correctly reorders itself the highlighted item does NOT have its description at the top of the screen until I move either left or right and back but the display is normal otherwise. After I move off the highlighted show and back the display still remains normal and the description returns and displays normally. It is like the screen forgets to full update after a return from normal playback. My other "suggestion" is that Emby focus their development to one Android app. That way resources are not as spread out and it is possible that problems like the issues displayed in this thread might get fixed rather that effectively being ignored. I do understand that Emby wants to keep everyone happy but maintaining multiple Android apps is not the way to do it.

  34. The solution has been found! This is something so simple it should never have taken a year to figure it all out. When using Libation in order to liberate books from one's Audible or other library, it is important to go into the settings section and to un-tick a single box Settings>Download/Decrypt>Set cover art as the folder's icon If that box is checked, Emby's library search will not find the new material. If the box is unchecked, it will work as intended.

  35. So I believe I have solved this issue - it appears the difference was the way the Docker was configured in Unraid - nginx was using a Bridge connection, while Emby was using a Host connection. I changed Emby to Bridge (since it's on a unique port that was ok) and now the downloads in Emby can reach 300MB/s+. No idea why this issue existed since a Host network in Docker is supposed to be better, but I'm just happy I figured it out.

  36. You're quite right. I just turned it off, and with the immediate test I carried out, it seems indeed to keep subtitles in sync, so I I'm quite pleased if this is all it took for subs to always be in sync, across all of my media I will report back in a while, when I've watched a few films and as such, tested more thoroughly, across a couple of other client devices as well.

  37. You defined both your base domain and the subdomain as pointing to the server, so it's no big surprise that both work. If you want to use just the subdomain, remove the AAAA record for the main domain (it doesn't need one unless you're using it for something), and change the domain in the Emby setup to be the subdomain (i.e. the actual domain you use to access Emby - note that technically, subdomains are domains, adding "sub" is just a reminder to yourself). But I don't use nginx, so I don't know why it worked with no server_name directive for the base domain in the configuration. Paul

  38. I have long given up, also because meanwhile the HDD where I had all mountpoints broke and Emby forgot ALL assets, despite having enabled the option to store all of them locally (on another HDD) and that frustrated me a lot (44 HDDs to rescan). Also my current PC decided to hijack the USB ports, so I must reboot each time I want to swap an HDD (unsolvable, tons of articles, posts and IA's failed on this, I won't spend any more life on it). I will move this to my next PC.

  40. Hi @Luke, thanks so much for getting back to me. No, I can’t say that it was a really old install…at least not one that I had jumped back into. I have been keeping Emby updated with almost every step upgrade over the past few years just not been using it as our primary interface. Having said that, when I couldn’t find any other info to help troubleshoot, and with your earlier response that those other sections shouldn’t be showing up at the top, I opted to try a clean install. I did a lot of cleanup work in the new install and then backed that up. I then attempted to use the previous backup data so I wouldn’t lose all of that but the issue above with the playlists instantly came back. Fortunately, since I had the clean install backed up, I was able to revert to that. I do still have some other things that I’m trying to figure out so I can move back over to Emby for good. But I’ll make separate posts for those. Thanks for confirming the clean install was the right way to go. Sometimes, it’s not worth going down the rabbit hole for something like this that one may not be able to fix without a clean start anyway.

  41. I had a similar previous issue earlier this year where I had tried to reinstall this same version a number of times and didn't work. I then installed the beta which didn't work and went back to 4.8.11.0. It did eventually come back and has been working since until the other day. I have ended up having to completely rebuild the database from scratch so have lost all my viewing data and metatadata annoyingly. I still don't really know what happened and does seem that the Emby server doesn't seem to work with QTS to restart by itself as had to force it via ssh.
