I appreciate everyone's help. I think the root cause is this is running as a Truenas "App" versus me building out the container myself. No big deal at this point. If external users use Emby Connect, they are able to come into the server without the token issue. Thanks again.3 points

With the beta version 4.9.0.40/4.9.0.41 the problem seems to be solved, but I will be able to have confirmation only after updating the main server, I will wait for the new version when it comes out of beta.2 points

Hi, Thanks for all the comments. In the end, I decided to create a new user with admin features, change the name, privileges and password of my old account and kept it that way.2 points

Hi Guys, Thanks very much for the support. Finally bit the bullet & scratched the whole thing & started again. 1st test = subtitles from file - that worked. 2nd test = find, download & use subtitles = perfect. So resolved. Also set the right user/group Id and reset the backups, so a bit of a spring clean really. Happy days. Thanks all.2 points

Well, I've done some testing, and I think I've made my decision. I've confirmed that files using AV1 or VP9 will both play without server transcoding ("direct play") on my Win10/Chrome client, and I am very pleased with how lightning fast loading and scrubbing and resuming are working. I know my client machine is older (i7-4790) and may get bogged down on higher resolutions, but both codecs are performing extremely well with my testing thus far. It's often frustrating when it just hangs for about 30-60 seconds before showing the "no compatible streams available" error message (when the content is h.265), but then the video loads fine when I click on it again. The load times and scrub latency when using AV1 or VP9 are significantly lower than when the server is transcoding everything. It's bordering on immediate. Not to mention the fact that it seems to correctly load/resume/scrub successfully every single time now. Taking server transcoding out of the picture is going to improve my Emby experience tenfold. I'm autistic, so my sensory experiences tend to differ from most people. But I'm leaning heavily towards AV1 over VP9, primarily because my system transcodes to AV1 much faster than VP9, almost by a factor of 3. I'd even dare to say that AV1 at the same bitrate of my h.265 files is roughly identical. I have definitely noticed more compression artifacts in VP9 compared to AV1 at the same bitrate. I'll probably want to allocate more bitrate for content that is 59.97 FPS or for content that has a higher quality source. TL;DR: AV1 FTW.2 points

I hit "play all" on a collection and it doesn't show the next film in "Next Up" after I quit out of it. This is apparently intended behaviour, and the same applies to playlists. This is absurd. Why even have the "play all" option? Who's sitting down to watch a full collection's worth of films, or a full playlist? I have playlists for The Prisoner for its various episode orders, and there's no way I'm getting through them in one sitting. I was going to make that my next show to watch but if I'm going to have to keep track manually of my progress through the playlist it makes the playlist fairly pointless TBH. There's no reason playlists or collections shouldn't show up in Next Up.1 point

I was just using the slider to scroll to the bottom. I used your suggestion and scrolled down letting each page load as I went and it worked. All the titles were selected. Thanks for the help!1 point

Sounds like Emby already had media info for the old media per the strm file. I would assume there is no way for Emby to know you changed the orginal file and will require you to manually Refresh the entire show/episode as Luke mentioned but you can test on one file. But you should be able to tell by looking at the Media Info Emby is providing per episode if updated or not.1 point
-
How did you scroll to the bottom? Tbh, never tried it on a playlist with so many items, but assuming behavior is the same as in library tab/virtual scroll: items are loaded in chunks (50ish pieces) as you scroll, meaning you need to actually scroll through all the items to have them loaded, not use slider and click last item, as in that case you're effectively loading 100-ish items (50ish at the start+50-ish at the end). In short: select first item>scroll with mouse wheel slow/fast enough that all the items get loaded as you scroll down>shift-select last item once you're at the bottom.1 point

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/deprecation-of-basic-authentication-exchange-online Microsoft has diabled basic auth (user+password) for most services and is continuing to do so with more. This may or may not be your current problem; but it will become a problem soon as Emby does not support 0auth2. I shifted to gmail for the time being, and will hopefully be moving elsewhere soon. Not entirely sure where yet.1 point

It checks both the group-title and the channel name for the VOD detection inclusion words. so all of this: group-title="CINEMA TV SHOWS HD/4K",CM NETFLIX 1 4K you don't need to add it to group-title="CINEMA TV SHOWS HD/4K" , it captures it anyway from the channel name: CM NETFLIX 1 4K something else is a miss, the code I am just testing will tell me in the verbose logs where it puts each item. I think instead of blindly trying to get it to behave I need to see what its doing for each persons item, then work out how to handle it. Its come a long way already from just working on my m3u file, it is now processing all of them, I just need it to manipulate each entry properly for all types of m3u 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 ------------------------------------ 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 tvgId: 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 tvgType: 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 tvgName: 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 groupTitle: 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 movieName: ES - Herbie en el Grand Prix de Montecarlo (1977) 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 logoUrl: 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 Processing [84925]..Item Name: ES - Herbie en el Grand Prix de Montecarlo (1977) 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 Checking: #EXTINF:-1,ES - Herbie en el Grand Prix de Montecarlo (1977) 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 Checking: http://*******************************.mkv 03.Mar.2025 - 17:39:35 Item [84925] Adding to internal Live-TV List Such as this its obvious to me that I also need to check if there is a year (YYYY) in there to see if its a movie VOD or not, so I have added that. I've done another round of more thorough testing, and I can again confirm that AV1 is ideal for my use case, and is superior to VP9 in efficiency. Even on HD content, playback/resume/scrubbing are 100% reliable, and everything is showing direct play in stats for nerds. CPU usage on my client hovers around 9% during playback. Server CPU is basically idle. I'm getting excellent results with low bitrates just like with h.265. Scrubbing HD content is still more responsive than even starting an SD video when the server is transcoding everything. I'm used to waiting multiple seconds for updates when scrubbing. I think I've found the sweet spot for bitrates and file sizes and quality and encoder presets, and I'm gearing up to transcode my entire library to AV1. My primary viewing device is an NTSC CRT TV, so having high resolution video files is kindof pointless. I've chosen to transcode to 720p on some titles just because the source material is good, but most of it is 720x480. I'm using 512 kbits/sec for animation, and 1024 kbits/sec for everything else, and there are barely any compression artifacts noticeable. I've only noticed them when I'm actively looking for them. The first pass when using 2-pass encoding goes by a lot faster for some reason when transcoding to AV1. The encoder preset default is 6, and I've found that setting it to 5 is a good balance between time to transcode and perceived quality of the video output. I'd probably set it lower if I had better hardware, but this is more than acceptable. Thanks so much to everyone who chimed in, and thanks to the Emby team for creating and maintaining this software. Keep up the good work.1 point

I’d like to begin by expressing how much I’ve been enjoying the Emby DVR. After being a long-time Plex DVR user, I made the switch to Emby at the start of 2024, and I’ve been really satisfied with the experience. To that end, while it’s not a major issue, I have a suggestion: it would be great to have a visual indicator showing any added recording time (like an additional 30 minutes) during an active recording. Currently, this extra time isn’t reflected in the active recording view, as demonstrated in the attached example.1 point

Well there are lots of test sites. codec support HTML5test - How well does your browser support HTML5? Media MIME Support But in the end you will need newer hardware for all the newer codecs as they are a lot more resource heavy.1 point

I wouldn't trust ChatGPT to take sufficient account of how fast this field is moving.... If you look for comparisons in articles, be careful to check the dates. I think VP9 is considered well behind AV1 in the open-source world. HEVC and AV1 are close, but my impression is that AV1 is now widely considered to have the edge, even if only by a modest margin. Now that hardware support for AV1 is becoming readily available, the main advantage of HEVC in this battle has been significantly eroded. Paul1 point

The error is about this line: libraries_url = f'{emby_url}/Library/Sections' The url does not exist in the API. The correct and working one is: libraries_url = f'{emby_url}/Library/SelectableMediaFolders' by doing a get request you get a json with all info you need: [{'Name': 'xxxx', 'Id': '5', 'Guid': 'cxxxxxxxx4c21ecd', 'SubFolders': etc..1 point

Been Googling for ways to get the HEVC extension without an account. 1) From powershell run: winget install --id Microsoft.HEVCVideoExtension 2) From powershell run: Add-AppxPackage -Path "https://store.rg-adguard.net/vcl/9n4wgh0z6vhq" 3) You can also install the K-Lite codec pack: https://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm I believe this is a custom version but i used this one my self for years before i stopped needing it. I'm not sure my self how effective this is with browsers and such as they will still need hardware acceleration to support H265. So might not be of much help if you just want to watch in browsers. Those are the options i could find. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! Look them up your self to see if you trust them before trying would be my advice! Option 1 pretty sure Winget won't work without having logged into a microsoft account at least once since it's part of Windows but worth a try. Sure fire way to get the extension is to just use a trow away email address for the store, buy the extension and log off. This is what i did to get it.1 point

I would love to use this on media in my library. Lots of things I have don’t have subtitles or they are not timed correctly. This would be fantastic!1 point

I think the HEVC extension is only needed if you want to play back encrypted HEVC media like fx. from Netflix. I just fired up a whole new Windows installation on my test system and made sure to not use a Microsoft account so it couldn't automatically download the HEVC extension. HEVC played fine in Chrome based browsers (includes Microsoft Edge), i don't have a Netflix account to test with though so i can't confirm 100% the thing about encrypted media though. To further test i had a friend do the same and he reported the same result. Audio did get transcoded but that is to be expected since it's a browser and that i have no sound connected to the test system at all. You need to have hardware acceleration activated in your browser for it to support HEVC, in Chrome it should be under Settings -> system or just search for "accel" in the search field. Your hardware also need to support hardware decoding of HEVC for it to work. Sadly software decoding of HEVC seems to not be possible in browsers1 point

Beens, Yes, HEVC software and hardware direct licensing appears to be $68,000 a year for home playback ($24,000) and mobile ($24,000), TV 4K playback ($20,000). https://accessadvance.com/hevc-advance-patent-pool-detailed-royalty-rates/ If there are 3rd party software options that allow direct playback, they may be available, perhaps, but without proper licensing. You can often tell if the software's office address does not appear anywhere. Perhaps there is a special discount for a plug-in type product. I think the real cost of the licensing may be why you don't see many solutions with legitimate companies. If you can find another way to get the license, legally, at a better price, go ahead and post an answer here.1 point

Obviously so. I'm sorry to have addressed you in here with this. Let's assume, that I felt as if there should be a major interest of the whole emby community to have reasonable client implementations and hence hoped to encounter sort of a general UHD. However, I'm an industry manager and realise that accountabilities/responsibilities seldomly (actually never) rest with the original instance that provided a technology. Thanks for the chat and all the best, Seb1 point

Thanks Bill - I appreciate the honest answer I may take a look myself just out of curiosity more than anything as I don't use LiveTV much these days. Assuming you mean on the Core Introskip - then yes, I could do that but I would really prefer Emby to finish what they started with Introskip and add a proper framework/api for 'markers' - the same as what Jellyfin has done ... (media segments - covering commercial, preview, recap, intro and outro) ..1 point

All APIs are documented in detail: https://dev.emby.media/reference/pluginapi/Emby.Features.FeatureInfo.html https://dev.emby.media/reference/RestAPI.html Our aim is to provide quality software that is working reliably. Think you would be on our side: would you really do something which would cause the forums (Server + All Apps) becoming flooded with reports about all the ways and cases in which it doesn't work? A "use at your own risk" label would be quickly forgotten and what remains is the story: Emby is not properly working, has playback issues, works unreliable, etc etc. There's no value for anybody in providing something that doesn't work properly.1 point

Did exactly that a month ago (but with a N97 in Blackview MP80). Runs rock solid since one month including simultanous Transcoding sessions after I installed the right Intel Graphics Driver version on Windows 11 Pro. Additionally it runs paperless-ngx, an *arr-Stack, audiobookshelf and Romm for retro-gaming in the Browser, all of that in Docker Desktop (17 containers). It does all that without blinking an eye.1 point

I have this setup using port 587 (tick use TLS/SSL) and don't have any issues sending a secure email notification. I have not tested (nor plan to) port 25 - SMTP - but would not recommend that anyway as it's not encrypted, some email services may even reject the request. Port 465 is not supported. System Logging could definately be improved though - as all you get (on a debug log) is a GET log from the 'Server' log class with the term 'Notifications' in it - a seperate 'Notification' Log Class should be made for all Notifications imo. @softworkz1 point

There is an implemented function to send messages from the server to the clients but the duration of the messages is to short especially for longer messages. How can i increase the duration? Personally I'm kind of glad. Hosting media in the cloud has never worked well overall unless you subscribe to Amazon S3 or similar for storage or built your own storage system on a colo machine or similar. In that time frame (since 2016), a competitor came out with a completely cloud based version of their product that never really worked, spent close to 2 years trying to fix it then shut it all down wasting all the dev resources as well as burn customer bridges. Just look at all the issues you see here in the forums with people trying to use mounted Google drives for storage and hitting obstacles outside the bounds of Emby or what Emby can control or fix. I spend a decent amount of time each day trying to help and educate users on why Google Drive storage is a bad idea for Emby use. From a personal standpoint I hope Emby never embraces this more than using for sync/download functionality where it can fall back to the local version if there is a problem since the amount of issues would likely sky rocket if something like this was ever officially sanctioned. Frankly friends and family won't want to use your system if it's constantly having issues, works some days and not other days when you hit a quota Google enforces. Almost every person would be better off purchasing one large drive or two and making the best use of it. Having 500 to 1000 quality movies and a couple dozen TV Shows that always work is better than trying to create a "Netflix" size system filled with fluff. A lot of people get GD working on a small or test system but as soon as they start to share it with a couple of people the usage goes up and "bang" quotas muck things up. I know this is a feature request, but I'd highly encourage you to rethink wanting to store your media offsite with no control over outcome. Storage media is cheaper than ever and you get a lot more of it for the $ as will since 2016. It's also much faster and easier to use locally with far less headaches or growing pains.1 point
