FrostByte you absolute legend, that was the issue. I checked the logs and saw access to the folder was denied. So I went to the folder level to make the read/write explicit for emby user and voila!!!2 points

No problems here with any of my anime subtitles. I strongly suggest you do as Luke has requested and attach information so the team can help you troubleshoot this.2 points

I think I may have found a solution. I checked the permissions for the Emby app and noticed that the permission for Photos and Video was denied. I allowed it and relaunched Emby. It seems to have fixed the problem for me so far.1 point

You may have a permissions problem at the file level also. Do you have a server log for when you tried adding the folder? It may contain an error.1 point

I think that works. As I said, my "ideal solution" is low priority. I know the awesome team is working on more important things, so I'll mark the above as solution. Since it's an acceptable workaround. Thanks, my friend!1 point

I suggest checking only the third option on that screen "hide on devices this user has not logged into". That will give you the best functionality across both local and remote devices.1 point

HI, when 4.9 goes stable ,then at that point you'll be able to switch from the beta channel back to the stable channel.1 point

I had the same issue and running the refresh internet channels task fixed it.1 point

Forgot to update here, but it appears to be receiving errors if the encrypted volume is not mounted. I've also taken to enabling the generation of NFO files so that if the database does get messed up then theoreitically I shouldn't have to redo any of the manual metadata editing.1 point

UPDATE i gave up on NFS i am now using SMB with 777 permission , everything goes fine SMB doesnt work before because it only have 755 permission, it must be mount with 777 permission in order to make emby write data to it all the tutorial i look before are all mounting SMB with 755 permission Here is the command for mounting SMB w 777 sudo -i mount -t cifs -o "rw,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777,username=xxx,password=xxx" //192.168.xxx.xxx/Nas/emby /mnt/smb i hope i can help someone who gets the same problem1 point

2024-05-08 17-19-43.mp4 The 'right click' context menu on now playing is useful thanks i hadn't appreciated it was there... fwiw the reason im interested in getting to the song...is to check what playlists its a member of, adding it to playlists....(and if the feature request comes in in future, removing from playlists).1 point

Tried today's version of the Windows App (1.1.556.0) + server version 4.8.6.0, and the Windows App still hangs with that video/series, even when subs are disabled. No issues with other videos, so... I'll just leave it as a "I have to get a better version of that series" (the video was encoded a long time ago, and subs are kind of messed up even when playing it on VLC). Thanks anyway! PS: great to see the speed button there!1 point

I don't disagree - but as per the original reply from @sa2000, you originally got a 403 - so it was correctly following http standards. It logged this, but failed to report this to the user as Device Access denied (Authorisation) - you had correctly entered the username and password, thus you were Authenticated and thus it is ok to send you this informative message. If you were not Authenticated then you would have been sent a 401 instead regardless of the device access, which at that point, should never even have been queried.1 point

In doing so - you have also just confirmed that account exists .. without any Authentication ? You should not be mixing Authentication and Authorisation. If anybody Authenticates - be it via a valid known login or brute force - does not change the fact that Authentication has happended and the next 'stage' of security is to check the Authorisation. HTTP 403 is well defined to mean Authentication has been accepted but permission to proceed further is denied. A locked account has to be Authenticated for you to know it is locked In any known system that I have ever used, if my account is locked - I don't get to know that before I have sucessfully Authenticated ...1 point

While searching for a solution to this problem, I found a solution on the Jellyfin reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/jellyfin/comments/xyuhdt/comment/ish6ewz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 With Emby you would do it like this; Go to C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system Edit EmbyServer.runtimeconfig.json Under configProperties, go to the end of the last existing line and type a comma "," press enter and paste "System.Net.DisableIPv6": true Should look something like this: { "runtimeOptions": { "tfm": "net6.0", "includedFrameworks": [ { "name": "Microsoft.NETCore.App", "version": "6.0.29" }, { "name": "Microsoft.AspNetCore.App", "version": "6.0.29" } ], "configProperties": { "System.Reflection.Metadata.MetadataUpdater.IsSupported": false, "System.Net.DisableIPv6": true } } } This works for me with Mullvad VPN split tunneling. Only problem I noticed is that this file resets after every update, I haven't had time to test but maybe this can be remedied by making the file read only? Hopefully the devs find this post and implements some sort of fix so this wont be necessary.1 point
-
The first one. Once the 4.9.x branch reaches a certain point which devs want to finish it up it then becomes the latest stable. At that point 4.8.x will be old and may no longer be updated. The next round of beta then will presumably be 4.10. That's where you get off the beta and just stay with 4.9. Unless you decide beforehand to follow what sa2000 posted that is.1 point

Hey Luke, thanks for asking. Made a lot of experience in my first raspberry week. Yes emby is up and running on a dietpi os. Unfortunately the handling of usb drives in Linux based os system does not fit my requirements. I want to switch on and off my external 3.5" hard drive on demand. Here you have to mount and unmount drives. This has nothing to do with emby. On windows and even on Nvidia shield that's no problem at all. Maybe I will try on the shield again. But with Android TV 11 came so many restrictions. E.g autostart of emby server would not be possible out of the box. As clients I use Kodi. Plan was to test emby for Kodi next gen. File bases media administration as in the past. In KODi Addons are available for all streaming platforms and you can even integrate them in the library. This is a must have for me. With emby and Kodi I will realise my dream of a central media DB and rich media client.1 point

I just was trying the 15day free. The solution I found is removing the actual cover in emby server and put the exact same image again. And do a full rescan on the app1 point

@Vicpa Perhaps you could start a new Feature Request Forum Topic on New Music Category Suggestions, with some guidelines, so that the thread doesn't become just another general "Music Improvements" catch-all topic, that doesn't get any real community traction or much Emby attention. I would contribute straight away!!! (I don't want to start it, because it's essentially your idea.) You could be the champion (if you wanted to) to keep a Master Category List properly updated and ranked, as suggestions are given, and keep the topic focussed and on track. Then, hopefully Emby would give it due consideration? Beyond Style, I have at least 4 key music categories that I would like to see implemented. (I'm not going list the 4 here, because this topic is Styles.) They are all mentioned scattered about in other posts/threads, mostly initiated by others. A consolidated wishlist from a wide range of community members would be most interesting. At the moment, there is really only the option of using Genres and Tags (in non-ideal workaround ways) to gain extra Categories that are not in Emby now, but readily available in competitor offerings. There are many very knowledgeable community members that could contribute greatly to this and give Emby a good 'headstart' for designing future improvements. What do you think?1 point

Hi, we've actually always done this. What if it was an adult library? You may not want all users to see it. That's why you need to grant them access.1 point

For anyone technical enough to know, the response code is the clue as 401 is "Unauthorized" and 403 is "Forbidden". I suppose we could translate those into different messages but a Forbidden response can come from multiple causes (lockout in which case, it IS an authentication issue, device access restriction, device limits, etc).1 point

Well just my opinion but what is „realistic‘“ about that? Realistic is for me what supports and secures ongoing Emby‘s support and development. And paying market rates for the people doing the work. The price of premier is trivial when I look at only the support effort I receive here and compare it to what I pay to open a single support case on other software I use. in my opinion, Emby should charge a premium over Plex to compensate for not monetising its users, as well as the far superior support. if you want free, use Jellyfin.1 point

Now that we are beyond server 4.7 and have the ability to set playlists per user, is there any progress on a Watchlist?1 point

This has come up before - would it not be a sensible idea to provide a different error message for the user in this scenerio ? Clearly saying Invalid user/password is not only incorrect, but would lead you down the path of it being an Authentication problem, when it is infact an Authorisation/Access issue.1 point

The Emby team wanted to say thank you again to everyone that took the time to ask various questions during our Q&A session. Here are a few more answers to questions that a lot of our users were asking about. 1) How is beta functionality success measured? Often times people are curious about the process we use internally here at Emby as we go through the Beta process. We do rely heavily on the forum feedback and beta-tester feedback relating to open issues. It is also important that we take into account the overall experience of the beta release compared to the current stable release, especially when we are making large changes as we did from 4.7 to 4.8. We may be perfectionists at heart but we also understand that we can't spend forever chasing perfection on the release so we do our best to balance stability and functionality throughout the whole process. To reiterate what we shared in previous blog posts, we also understand that a tighter release window with smaller goals allows us to hone in on the stability of the beta and get releases out to the public. It is something that we here at Emby are striving to get to. 2) What is the split of time between actual development and forum duties? We get this question asked often so we thought we would give a little run down on this. Some of our developers such as @Lukeand @ebrand others split their time between development and the forums as things demand. Other developers we have on staff actually do not even engage in the forums at all as to solely focus on the development of Emby moving forward. This allows us to offer quick and prompt customer service and also focus on development at the same time. We thought it was important to answer this one at this point in time, because we do want people to know that there is more to the development team than simply what you see here on the forums. 3) What would help the Emby team the most to improve the overall product from the community? This is another question that gets asked often and it's something that a lot of you are already doing. Keep up the feedback! The more the better! Everything that's posted on these forums is invaluable to us. From pain points, feature requests, how you're using the server, what apps you prefer and anything else that people share with us about how they utilize Emby. Everything that you share is heard and taken into account by the developers. That doesn't always mean that things can get implemented right away or worked on immediately, but the value of your feedback is paramount to our work. We know that it doesn't always seem like it to everyone, but we 100% listen to everything people say and value the thoughts and opinions of our user base! 4) What are some of the biggest obstacles that the Emby team faces throughout development? A lot of the challenges we face throughout development are based on resource allocation from the sheer amount of hardware and software options that Emby runs on. Keeping in mind that Emby runs on everything from an old windows laptop, to Linux distros, NAS, server systems and more, we have to make sure that the program works on all of these systems. Also development of the apps falls under that same category. With so many options for our users to choose from dedicated media players such as Roku, Amazon Fire Sticks, Nvidia Shields, Apple TV Smart TV's, mobile devices such as Android and iOS, there are a lot of different platforms that we need to develop on and do our best to make sure everything is up to the standard that our users expect from Emby. @LukeIndeed! Tried Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Firefox and Chrome do tend to be slightly better. Due to how fast downloads are, people have just been using that option. Also I tried the emby desktop client on my windows pc, it has the same issue. I will work to collect more logs!1 point

Hi there, have you checked the Album Artist and AlbumArtist embedded metadata on the problem albums? This needs to be the same, for all tracks on the Album, for Emby to recognise a complete Album. There is more info from Emby in the link below (and also elsewhere in the forums). https://emby.media/support/articles/Music-Naming.html An easy way is to use Mp3tag (or similar).1 point

Do you get paid every month? Again, it is simple economics and ultimately boils down to people and other resources - all of which have to be "purchased" on an ongoing basis.1 point

Sorry - disagree here. A PC will have HDR issues, No Dolby Vision, No HD Audio,3rd party remote control, constant OS updates, constant incompatibility issues... and despite what you may think, still uses more power than a Shield which is single digit Watts in standby, 10-15W Max when playing 4K. There is a reason HTPC's as a mainstream platform have died .. I do however agree the shield is on it's last legs - if AV1 ever got going, then I think it would kill it - but as it stands today, it is still the best player with mainstream support for playing high end/high bitrate media - ie 4K remux, HD Audio and DV. It plays them without issues and has done so for years. It is also the reason they have stayed 'expensive' - they are simply in demand because they continue to 'just work'.1 point

So dann mal schöne Weihnachten. Und wenn ich mir was beim Christkind wünschen darf, dann wäre ein Alexa Skill für emby ganz nett....1 point
