  1. Well just my opinion but what is „realistic‘“ about that? Realistic is for me what supports and secures ongoing Emby‘s support and development. And paying market rates for the people doing the work. The price of premier is trivial when I look at only the support effort I receive here and compare it to what I pay to open a single support case on other software I use. in my opinion, Emby should charge a premium over Plex to compensate for not monetising its users, as well as the far superior support. if you want free, use Jellyfin.

  2. The Emby team wanted to say thank you again to everyone that took the time to ask various questions during our Q&A session. Here are a few more answers to questions that a lot of our users were asking about. 1) How is beta functionality success measured? Often times people are curious about the process we use internally here at Emby as we go through the Beta process. We do rely heavily on the forum feedback and beta-tester feedback relating to open issues. It is also important that we take into account the overall experience of the beta release compared to the current stable release, especially when we are making large changes as we did from 4.7 to 4.8. We may be perfectionists at heart but we also understand that we can't spend forever chasing perfection on the release so we do our best to balance stability and functionality throughout the whole process. To reiterate what we shared in previous blog posts, we also understand that a tighter release window with smaller goals allows us to hone in on the stability of the beta and get releases out to the public. It is something that we here at Emby are striving to get to. 2) What is the split of time between actual development and forum duties? We get this question asked often so we thought we would give a little run down on this. Some of our developers such as @Lukeand @ebrand others split their time between development and the forums as things demand. Other developers we have on staff actually do not even engage in the forums at all as to solely focus on the development of Emby moving forward. This allows us to offer quick and prompt customer service and also focus on development at the same time. We thought it was important to answer this one at this point in time, because we do want people to know that there is more to the development team than simply what you see here on the forums. 3) What would help the Emby team the most to improve the overall product from the community? This is another question that gets asked often and it's something that a lot of you are already doing. Keep up the feedback! The more the better! Everything that's posted on these forums is invaluable to us. From pain points, feature requests, how you're using the server, what apps you prefer and anything else that people share with us about how they utilize Emby. Everything that you share is heard and taken into account by the developers. That doesn't always mean that things can get implemented right away or worked on immediately, but the value of your feedback is paramount to our work. We know that it doesn't always seem like it to everyone, but we 100% listen to everything people say and value the thoughts and opinions of our user base! 4) What are some of the biggest obstacles that the Emby team faces throughout development? A lot of the challenges we face throughout development are based on resource allocation from the sheer amount of hardware and software options that Emby runs on. Keeping in mind that Emby runs on everything from an old windows laptop, to Linux distros, NAS, server systems and more, we have to make sure that the program works on all of these systems. Also development of the apps falls under that same category. With so many options for our users to choose from dedicated media players such as Roku, Amazon Fire Sticks, Nvidia Shields, Apple TV Smart TV's, mobile devices such as Android and iOS, there are a lot of different platforms that we need to develop on and do our best to make sure everything is up to the standard that our users expect from Emby. 3. Okay, so... in Now Playing in Emby, if I have a single-file m4b, the only way I can know what chapter I'm on is to mouseover the seek bar at the location where I'm at in the book. And that is only on the seek bar on this particular screen. Can I just take the time to again point out how much screen real estate is wasted here (below) by redundant cover art and descriptions? Also, the description shows for the track(s), not the album. I don't know how else to point out how rough this UI is. Creating feature requests to solve each individual problem with it would be a fool's errand at this point.

  5. Version 10.1.0 Notes: Please do not forget to leave an up to date textual review on Play Store. Your feedback plays a crucial role in building the app’s ranking, ensuring a future for Symfonium. Added: Added pCloud support as a provider now that they finally agreed to allow me to use their API. Added stable date added option to Local device provider. (Prevent update of the date added of media when they are edited) Added sort content by year to playlists. Added new setting to control the preferred language for Last.FM artist biography scrapping. You can now click artist album group headers to directly access filtered lists for quick actions. Added export and import smart playlists to files. Added offline status to smart filters. Added support for channelCount, samplingRate and bitDepth new OpenSubsonic fields. Added new option to sort home favorites by date of favoriting instead of last played. (Except for Subsonic providers, this will only work for favorites created after this update) Added support for Rewind and Fast forward external commands (Car, Headsets, …) Added per channel pre amp configuration to DSP to allow left/right balance. (Note: If you used single channel preAmp before you need to reconfigure the values!) 6. Updated the client to beta 2.1.12g Repeated the previous scenario. All works well this time. I'm not sure that it always failed before, but this is positive. I'll let you know if there are further problems. In the mean time - thanks

  7. I see in 4.8.6 is now has a scroll row called "folders" showing the folders, but I would really like it to be back in a grid view in 4.8.7 please. Thank you.

  8. OT: Glad you figured it out as that is odd as the dlna.xml is part of the full backup.

  9. That was it. I guess not ALL settings transferred over. DLNA control was not enabled on the server.

  10. It shouldn't! Collections are supposed to be content agnostic, and there is no design reason for them to be horizontal scrolling for any platform.

  11. Since it is global one may want to restrict to specific libraries. Guess I missed this one new feature on Home Screen settings. But yes needs added to this setting.

  13. Hi, Emby community! I would like to introduce EDCM, the Emby Dynamic Collections Manager. This tool is a companion to Emby to automatically create and update Emby Collections based on rule sets. For example, to automatically create a collection for all TV shows from HBO with a rating of 8 and above, the following ruleset can be created: [Highly Rated HBO Series] Type=Series Studios = HBO MinCommunityRating = 8 This will find any library items matching the specified criteria and add them to a collection named 'Highly Rated HBO Series'. If new shows are added to your library that match the requirements, they will to the collection automatically. All rules from the Get Items API endpoint are supported. Currently, EDCM is very much an alpha release, but no calls are made that are dangerous to your library or Emby itself, so I invite you to give it a go and let me know your thoughts. Any feedback is appreciated! Check out my EDCM GitHub repository on how to install and run it. I have created a ~70mb Docker image, ready to go! I hope you enjoy

  14. Being able to specify Collections or even Genres that are allowed/not allowed for specific users would be helpful in the "Parental Control" setting. Only having maximum allowed parental rating isn't as helpful.

  17. This is by design, although the ones matching the album should be lower in the search rankings.

  19. Cant agree on this one. Hasn't been a price change over the years stands, but tell me did we get any new premiere features worth mentioning ? Maybe, maybe not, but main argument is that features that are already premiere are somewhat not stable at all, live tv for example. There are numerous really numerous posts about live tv not working, or working for 2 beta rlses and than all over again from the start... It is really pathetic that emby calls live tv part a premiere feature. It simply is not something to talk about at all from their side and calling it premiere feature is a small insult. I gave up on live tv after 3-4 months because i was not ready to constantly restart whole emby server because live tv was frozen, or stuck, or any other problem you can find on forum in few thousands post on live tv not working. Emby is no unique product. Plex also "could facilitate piracy" , jellyfin too, and million others. Hiding behind piracy claims here only has one purpose, make more money on premiere and limited number of devices, nothing more. If that wasn't true we would have now control of our devices, we could have control to delete, kick device and management of it in general. No we have some silly explanations and shitload of posts about piracy. Common, we are not kids. If they are so scared of piracy issues, than go code a children book or something, and leave streaming server product. Ok lets talk about piracy, if that is an issue as we read here alot from emby devs...why is there a 75 devices license ? Why not make it 10 maximum, its a home server and we don't want piracy right ? Whats the difference in these "talks about piracy" when emby is selling 45, 75 devices ? What anti piracy allows up to 75 devices all over 75 is piracy ? There is no logic in any of the explanations, especially when ebr comes to "teach us".

  20. ignore those. I can remove them from the log, they aren't important.

  22. And also add RegEX keywords or at least boolean operators (NOT, OR, AND). For example record "THIS SHOW" NOT "PREVIEW" to exclude preview of the shows. Or also better with Regular expressions! Thanks!! PS Like TvHeadEnd if you know.

  26. I guess it would vary as network throttling happens during peak hours as I have seen my cellular data go from less than 1Mbps to over 180Mbps. Also will depend on your 4K also as user rips will likely have extremely high bitrates for any given WAN connection let alone a wireless network.

  28. The server itself has no limit. That uri error is coming from elsewhere. So yes that does in effect end up creating a limit. What we need to do is create new api methods that put all of these params in the body of the request and then there won't be an issue.

  32. I am also a former Plex user (I have lifetime memberships for both Plex and Emby). The main feature that @tfarrellis asking for is what Plex calls "Merge." You can select the various albums that should be a single album and merge them. I have, at times, wished that Emby had this. But it's important to note that Plex would not write anything back to the embedded tags in the media files either, so if a library had to be rebuilt for any reason, you would end up having to do the merge work again. Even though it would prevent that re-work, I strongly opposed Plex writing back to my embedded tags, and I also hope that Emby doesn't do it. The editors that are out there are more than adequate for the job. Embedded tags are the more "bulletproof" and permanent solution, but it can be a lot of work, if they aren't complete and accurate. Plex caused me endless headaches until I got my embedded tags in order, including, as has been mentioned here, making sure that "Album Artist" tags are always populated. Once I did, Plex was nearly bulletproof. Emby has come a long way and is, in my recent experience (it wasn't always so), comparably reliable to Plex, with the same embedded tags. Since implementing support for the Composer tag, as well as support for multiple artists per track or album, Emby has surpassed Plex where classical music is concerned.

  34. Welcome to the club. Many of us are quite unhappy with this sudden design change. At best, we've just gotten a vague "more options to control this are possible for future updates" response. The Android TV client did it right: while it defaults to this new view, it also has an "All Items" button to enable to old view.

  37. ISSUE RESOLVED. Please upgrade to v5.0.0.5 (Release) or allow Emby to autoupgrade to v5.0.0.5 (Release). The issue with it automatically upgrading to the "non working version" was due to the fact that Beta Server 4.8 went to Release Server 4.8, so for future reference this has been noted.

  39. @LukeHaving the rotate info does not help with this issue of portrait videos being rotated I have reproduced the problem again and I have media file and logs available. I have this time also tested on the Emby Samsung App as well and Emby Web and also Android App and repeated the ios app test and also added Emby Theater Outcome of my tests: Emby Server 4.8.5.0 on Windows 11 Emby Web - the issue only arises when forcing transcoding by reducing quality, Direct Play is ok Emby for Samsung 1.7.0 - the issue arises with auto quality and direct play and auto aspect ratio. It also happens with reducing quality to force transcode Emby for iOS 2.2.17 - same outcome as Emby Web. OK on Direct Play. Wrong when Aspect Ratio Auto and quality reduced forcing a transcode Emby for Android 3.3.86 - same outcome as Emby Web and Emby for iOS - OK on Direct Play. Wrong when Aspect Ratio Auto and quality reduced to force transcode Emby Theater 3.0.20 - same as web, ios and android. DP ok, Transcoded playback wrong

  40. It would be a good feature ! I know I could use directly the standard m3u importer, but for those specific channels, I really need TVH (I pipe them with Streamlink).

  41. Oh sorry, it's a bit of a mess. It should be the Chuck episodes. I realized that I could get rid of the problem by changing my hardware transcoding settings to "Yes" instead of advanced, where I manually picked the decoders and encoders due to an older issue. Everything seems to be working fine now. I don't know what I had selected exactly but it had been working fine since the official release of 4.8 until recently.

  42. @Luke- Hi - so are we any closer to Home Screen Smart rows/libraries/channels - based on smartlists ? I halted my own efforts to get this 'working' (hacked) but stopped as you advised it was something you were hopefully working on back in August of last year post the 4.8 release... Its now 9 months later - 4.8 has been and gone - Is it even on the cards ? If not, then I'll carry on with my own 'hack' (and now wish I had just carried on with it..) as my own users are now fed up waiting for this essential missing feature ...

  43. I was going to start a new thread, but wanted to let people be aware of a change to the fail2ban config required based on my setup. The logs now don't look identical to the 2019 view that was originally at the start of this thread, which means that the regex created does not work any longer. The second bit, and this could be 1 of 2 reasons: 1) I am running emby, via the linuxserver docker and 2) running in docker, either way on my setup the logs have some strange characters (half width chracters). After some playing around and trying to get myself banned (mobile into my own network) I have found the following reports the correct host in my case: [INCLUDES] before = common.conf [Definition] failregex = ^.* Info Server\: http\/1\.1 Response 403 to \u200c\u200d\u200d<HOST>\u200c\..*$ Note the \u200c\u200d \u200c means : ZERO WIDTH NON-JOINER \u200d means : ZERO WIDTH JOINER These characters appear to break <HOST> in fail2ban, but luckily are set as visable (\u200c is not in the log file, but is parsed in fail2ban) Hope this helps someone else. Cheers

  44. what?... 1) you don't need a vpn in turkey, you need a local credit card... vpn won't help you + the cost of vpn will just be equal to the difference in the price of the plex))) 2) The regional price is not fair, since the product is the same? ok... what about wages? Doesn't it bother you that people in poorer countries get paid MUCH LESS than you do for the same job? isn't it the same? )))) what will you choose to raise the price for you in proportion to earnings? how about emby for 500-600-800$ ) why not? well, or as an option to reduce your salary to the level of Turkey-Brazil? also no? ))) regional prices are an inevitable reality of the economy, you make regional prices or you do not make a profit AT ALL all international platforms, steam. spotify, adobe, microsoft, etc. make regional prices, without regional prices the consumer will use piracy or buy nothing, or buy a competitor's product with a regional price it's hard to sell a game for 60 euros in a country where the salary is 200 euros don't you think so? that's why steam in poor countries sells the game not for 60 euros, but sells for 15 euros You can hope they do NOT go down that path. May be but... I look at the price of plex, which is 3 times lower and I doubt more and more that I will buy emby Yes, emby is a good product, but the price...(( for the same reason I don't buy games for 60-70 $ you can consider it not fair, it is your right. but the reality is that if there is no regional price, I will NOT buy, even if there is no crack, the manufacturer will still NOT receive money from me, simply because I cannot buy games for 60-70$ because it is too expensive. better to get 10-20$ than not to get anything...

  46. What I have decided to do, and have yet to test, is to get the program Handbrake and just re-encode all of the first 3 seasons of Coach from AVI to MKV. As long as I have VHS quality out of these older shows on my server, I am happy. As long as EMBY will play them, I am happy. Long term, I will end up encoding everything I have that is AVI because it looks like the Roku and Emby doesn't like that format. Although this is one of the few things PLEX will do and not screw up, I am NOT going back to using that program. I have been phasing it out for a month or two and things went well until this issue showed up. I found MKVmerge to damn complicated to use. The documentation is not user friendly. Handbrake is stupid simple. I am willing to pay money and to go out of my way to make EMBY better because I am not going back to that other program. I have a long road ahead re-encoding so much of my collection because these older, hard to find videos are usually encoded AVI and I have quite a bit. Hopefully as time goes on they will play better and without as much of an issue. Thanks!
