Hi, Emby community! I would like to introduce EDCM, the Emby Dynamic Collections Manager. This tool is a companion to Emby to automatically create and update Emby Collections based on rule sets. For example, to automatically create a collection for all TV shows from HBO with a rating of 8 and above, the following ruleset can be created: [Highly Rated HBO Series] Type=Series Studios = HBO MinCommunityRating = 8 This will find any library items matching the specified criteria and add them to a collection named 'Highly Rated HBO Series'. If new shows are added to your library that match the requirements, they will to the collection automatically. All rules from the Get Items API endpoint are supported. Currently, EDCM is very much an alpha release, but no calls are made that are dangerous to your library or Emby itself, so I invite you to give it a go and let me know your thoughts. Any feedback is appreciated! Check out my EDCM GitHub repository on how to install and run it. I have created a ~70mb Docker image, ready to go! I hope you enjoy3 points

EXACTLY!!! GENRE by (Album Artists AND Artists AND Composers), all shown lumped together, is what we have now. GENRE by (Album Artists) OR (Artists) OR (Composers), with only one shown separately, is what would be more useful for many. (Apologies if the above rough logic is not quite technically correct - but I think the difference between the two is still understandable?) STYLE by Albums would be a very nice addition to incorporate somehow, perhaps as per @Vicpa examples? @Luke Please keep progressing with the new Genre pages (plus Style). Don't stop part way, now that you have started. The Emby team could really make Emby music Genres/Styles great!3 points

Welcome to the club. Many of us are quite unhappy with this sudden design change. At best, we've just gotten a vague "more options to control this are possible for future updates" response. The Android TV client did it right: while it defaults to this new view, it also has an "All Items" button to enable to old view.2 points

I modified the file with ffmped like that : ffmmpeg ffmpeg -i '09 - I've Done It Again.flac' \ -metadata major_brand="" \ -metadata minor_version="" \ -metadata compatible_brands="" \ '09 - I've Done It Again.1.flac' Now, on my TV set, Emby plays the audio fiile. I wiil make a script to update the others FLAC files. Thanks a lot !2 points

Problem solved. If someone else have this problem the solution was found checking logs where I found a folder permission problem inside /var/lib/emby/ it was owned by root and not by emby user. chown -R emby:emby /var/lib/emby/ restart server problem solved2 points

Hi Style as a "non exclusive sub-type" of Genre makes sense to me (meaning a style can exist in multiple genres). From a view stand point "style by album" is my base request. Other magic Emby, is the cool whistle & bell stuff. Something like this Show a screen of available styles: Select One style: ie Vocal display by album -vicpa @Luke given the ambiguous definition of "Artist" , I would not show or not include them, maybe an opt-out option. I understand how it works. But it makes my audio look wrong or miss tagged and frankly I spend alot of time working to make it visually appealing. Fyi. Discogs has nice descriptions of styles don't know if there any potential overlap with the good suggestion below.2 points

I'm a big fan of services such as Rifftrax, and I hate having to manually mux files every time I purchase another release. Much in the same way that external subtitle file support was added, it would be nice to have external audio track support for TV and movies added as well. I wouldn't expect Emby to handle the offset calculations needed to sync the audio. It's not too difficult for me to modify that now.1 point

Hi, I automatically download the photos and videos I take with my mobile phone to the NAS. I added the folder on Emby and I can see movies and photos, but unfortunately while the photos if they were taken in portrait mode are shown well (black bars on the sides) the movies are played rotated to fill complete the screen. Is it possible to somehow rotate videos 90 degrees? thx\Gianni1 point

It now seems to be working! ip:8920 works. all that's left to setup is adding files and automating ip address updates to the dns records.1 point

I installed TrueNAS Scale in a VM and admittedly I didn't go all the way to setting up SSL but I couldn't find how exactly it's mapping 9096 to 8096, there was no listening entry in a netstat output and I tried looking at iptables if there was rule but I couldn't find anything. Maybe if I kept digging around I'd have found something. But I did try setting Host Network enabled and now I can see it listening on 8096 so if you don't have anything else listening on those port it may be worth enabling that and you can just use the host IP:8096 or host IP:8920 and you should be good to go.1 point
-
Yes testing this the Swagger api_key works but the generated api via UI does not. Only change to curl command was api key generated via UI and one via Swagger session. curl -X DELETE "http://localhost:8091/emby/Items?Ids={itemid}&api_key={apikey}" -d ""1 point
-
Yes I did also see 9096 as the port being used in the logs from a client perspective, even though it says it's listening on 8096, so it seems to be redirecting the port I just don't see it on the config. Not familiar enough with the platform to understand how to set that up, hopefully someone else that uses TrueNAS Scale can chime in.1 point

Probably the one that has you needlessly scrolling horizontally when webpages essentially have unlimited vertical space.1 point
-
There would be minimum difference in performance, but one of them will use a lot more power. Pretty much all processors in the same "family" have the same ASICS so the only difference would be in regards to any processing that is not done via quicksync, so audio and PGS subs.1 point
-
It shouldn't! Collections are supposed to be content agnostic, and there is no design reason for them to be horizontal scrolling for any platform.1 point
-
I can confirm that Folders added to Collections are not displaying. This is not fixed in 4.8.6 but will be resolved in 4.8.7. Thanks.1 point

Looks like each attempt to run the ffmpeg failed after 10 seconds but there's no indication in the server log for why, there might be more information in each of the ffmpeg logs since every attempt will create a new log.1 point

Hi, You can say it another way STYLE is a track tag. Select the tracks that have XYZ style. Don't group just show a list of songs another base view Table or list Group them by some unique category: That Shows off all the UI. Albums, Artist, AlbumArtist, Composer, Genre, Emby Team you have received alot of good feedback and suggestions!! thanks -vicpa BTW a quick user poll of what Categories they would be interested in seems straight forward. Purely to gage community interest not to commit to anything. "S&G" ..........AI Marketing speak: "Discover the excitement surrounding our newest initiative, where your input influences what comes next— consider what other Music/Audio Categories: The Emby Team should contemplate for future development."1 point

In the meantime here is some custom CSS code to make the > link a little more visible. You can adjust the colors and styles as you like. There is a slight change for mouse hover. /* Old See all link for actors, now is just a > */ .sectionTitleContainer.padded-left.padded-left-page.padded-right.sectionTitleContainer-cards.focusable > a > i { background-color: #71600c; border-radius: 2em; color: #bbe5f9 !important; padding: 11px; text-shadow: 3px 3px 2px #333; } .sectionTitleContainer.padded-left.padded-left-page.padded-right.sectionTitleContainer-cards.focusable > a > i:hover { background-color: #937f1a; color: #96cee9 !important; }1 point

It's Bulky. I thought I was replying to the Bulky thread, but apparently not. Sorry about that. I'll try again.1 point

I could go that path but I'd rather be patient and see what Luke finds. I prefer elegant solutions wherever possible.1 point

If it already scanned those movies once and failed it may not scan them again after the change. Add something new and post a new log. Also, the watches are still set at 8192, so nothing was changed. Redo step 3. Run the task as admin or su and check the values using the cat command to make sure they changed. Or, reboot and the script will run then.1 point
-
Found the error, there is a corrupt folder in Shows. The scanning stops at this corrupt folder. Now the issue is this folder os not getting deleted by the following command. sudo rm -r - f <foldername> Getting input/output error. Nothing to fo with emby. But still have to figure out how to get rid of this corrupt folder1 point

Thank you, according to your method, now I can switch subtitles can work normally, and the location of subtitles is OK.1 point

I did a forced uninstall (apt-get purge -f emby-theater), rebooted, downloaded a fresh copy of the ET 3.0.19 *.deb, then installed it. Things are better. My tv library data providers are now checked (and checkable). The tvdb tracking/forwarding link is still there, but now it is rendered html, not raw html. I was able to set a test image over a good thumb via the 'set by url' option without the GUID error. Of course I chose the thumb that isn't available yet to test on, so I had to manually download it again, lol. I'll have to see what settings I lost by nuking the ET client config during the purge, but everything seems reasonable so far, and to be working better than before.1 point

Awesome!! That's great! Yes to be clear - the feature I am using is (in Emby Server, under my Movies library): ..so if I have, say, Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2 in the library, then I add 3, that movie will also be added to the existing Beverly Hills Cop collection, thanks to the metadata. I understand the Emby for Kodi behavior perfectly now thanks to your explanation, and can now follow along in the code. Many thanks for taking time out to do that, it is much appreciated. It is very tricky logic to de-dupe the boxset updates correctly. Since I don't have a PR for you I'll donate instead. Awesome work.1 point

Yup, sorry, it was the dependencies that had me confused. I figured it out, got it installed and I'm back in business. Thanks for the hard work maintaining this addon!1 point

(FWIW) Some more thoughts/ideas/suggestions... I’d consider Genres-Styles as having a very similar Parent-Child relationship to Albums-Songs. For Genres-Styes, this would need to be a many-to-many database relationship because a Parent Genre could have many Child Styles, plus a Child Style could have more than one Parent. E.g. a Folk Rock Style could ‘belong’ to both Folk and Rock Parent Genres. If the current individual Genre pages evolved into detail pages (as described in my previous posts), then this potentially gives a relatively easy way to link/map Styles to Genres, within Emby. E.g. selecting the Edit icon (as on many detail pages now) opens up an Edit window. Genre appears in these windows now – replace it with Style within a new Genre Edit window. An enhanced individual Genre detail page would likely be useful for a majority of users, evidenced by the many forum Genre topics and discussions. A new individual Style page could be either detailed or simple. Perhaps simple (similar to the current Tags tree structure and pages) would be preferred because Style ‘sits below’ Genre and is likely less important for a majority of users. Style could potentially become a top-level menu tab. This would create some crowding of the menu bar, but this could be somewhat mitigated by implementing a customisable menu bar (which is a very popular feature request). Style could be added to various filter options. This may help where some people don’t have enough AND/OR options with Genres alone, now. Lastly, add a Links section to the bottom of individual Genre pages and automatically show links to the relevant MusicBrainz and Discogs Genre pages (if this is technically possible). I started drawing a diagram of the above and it got complex quite quickly! I also asked an unnamed AI source to do it for me, but it declined to help! So, we need the Emby gurus to perform some Style magic for us all!1 point

Hi, yes more options to control this are possible for future updates. Thanks for the feedback.1 point

That look would not work for me on TV. Its more like a computer UI app on a computer not "ten foot interface". I also don't like all those rails of "Recent Series", "Recently Added", "Discover", "Listen Again" BUT don't mind in the least if THOSE rails appeared under "Suggestions" menu item (like some of the other libraries). But not on main screen for a library. Just too cluttered.1 point

I complain a lot, but truthfully I'm exasperated as I've been asking the Emby devs for audiobook support since October 2017, which is four years before Audiobookshelf ever existed. So when a dev here says "Why do you think it doesn't work well?" that just hits home how they never used it for that before. Making separate feature requests for individual improvements at this stage is like picking what color paint to use on a house with no electrical wiring or plumbing. Sure, it works as a shelter but it doesn't have the necessary amenities. If the person building it never actually uses it enough to notice what's missing, there's no way they can know what people who do use it actually want. Plain and simple, audiobook functionality on Emby is ugly and barebones for a lot of reasons, and it won't improve until the devs actually use it to listen to audiobooks. Meanwhile:1 point

+1 for extras and whatnot to work the same way movie extras work. What I do is I just simply toss all of the extra files into the same folder as the episodes for that season, but that has a few annoying drawbacks. Deleted scenes I have to name them as "x09 - Deleted Scenes.mkv" for episode 9 of that season. Anything else in that folder that has a number in it, I have to type it out instead of using the number, or else Emby will either mistake it for an episode, or it just won't display it at all. So Part 1 has to be typed out as Part One, etc. Even then, it's still clunky as hell because it then lists all of the extra features above the episode listings for that season, but at least I don't have to do any major overhauling of the meta data, or have an extra 'season' that Emby then counts as another actual season.1 point

I am going to chime in with some more demand for this - its nice to support the extra folders so they can be used but its a half assed halfway implementation of additional content folders, however this dumps potentially dozens of random files into one unsorted bucket. the ui elements are entirely required for this to work.1 point
-
HI, we are looking into it. Thanks.1 point
-
It wouldn't solve my case. There is no matching metadata provider entry for my file, story critical or otherwise. Emby needs to be smart enough not to try to identify at all if the extra is in one of the new folders and doesn't use the SXXEXX convention at all.1 point
-
I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around how to use this feature. I'm currently ripping and adding Stargate SG1 to my library and am using that as an opportunity to test out per season extras. I've added a 'featurettes' folder to Season 1: I've added a video file named 'Season 1 Featurettes' to the featurettes folder: The result is that Emby decides this 25 minute video that doesn't have Stargate in the name is the first Season 0 special, which happens to be the ~2 hour feature film Stargate: What I imagined would happen is that because this file has no special S00EXX naming, Emby wouldn't try to identify it with a metadata provider special and instead would just add this extra as a non-numbered, unofficial special using the file name and place it at the end of Season 1. In other words, I wanted to see 'Special - Season 1 Featurettes' as the last 'episode' in the Season 1 listing. And, what I continue to want is for Emby to place this not-a-'special' *extra* in a separate Extras section at the bottom of Season 1 and only for actual, metadata backed Specials with a metadata 'appears before episode' property to appear in-line with the Season listing.1 point

Apologies if this has been posted as a FR already, did a search and didn't really see it (may be buried, 5.1 returns tons of search results lol) but I have seen this come up countless times in various posts. Currently Emby by default plays the audio track with the default tag, or if the tag doesn't exist it plays the first audio track in the list. This is certainly logical behavior. We have the option to prefer a language. So if the first and default audio track is in German and English is the 5th, by setting English as the preferred language it will play the English track. Perfect! Many mkv files set stereo as the default track to maximize compatibility. Many users want 5.1, 7.1, atmos, etc when they play their media, especially when using a TV. The solution right now is to use an external tool to convert all your media files and change the default track or select the surround option every time you play a file. The former may be too advanced for the average user or out of their control if they're streaming from a friend's server. The later gets tedious and is often forgotten. Could we not use the same logic that's used for a preferred language except also have a preferred audio format? This way a user can select English and 5.1 and if it exists it will choose that track, if there's only English it select the English track, otherwise if there's none it reverts back to the default method it is today. I think this would be relatively simple to implement since the logic is already there for language, it's just a matter of applying it to format as well. Even better would be the ability to rank multiple preferred audio formats but I can see that being much more difficult to implement.1 point
