Wrong - I had an early demo of the app and it worked well - unfortunately, cheese has not been active on these forums for a year or so. I hope he is well, but life is always far more important than emby.4 points

I would think the safest bet would be to consider a null air date as future.3 points

I think all work equally well, from what I read in the forums. The server's facilities are essentially identical on any platform. Any platform should be OK so long as (1) the cpu and networking performance is sufficient, (2) graphics hardware capable of transcoding can be included (if required), and (3) the user is sufficiently fluent in administration tasks on the platform concerned. The last point seems to be an issue with some NAS users (which may have very restricted low-level access) and some users of docker (which may require extra network configuration). Setting up extra security - https, reverse proxy, VPN - also requires some confidence with admin tasks. In short, use the platform you are most comfortable with. Paul3 points

Unless I'm being a bit blind (highly possible!), I'd love a way to hide a couple of the top green navigation items without hacking it in myself. For example, in Movies I don't want the 'Trailers' item to appear for any profile and for TV I don't need the 'Upcoming' nav link. Obviously not a major issue but thought it would be a nice thing to have, perhaps allowing them to be re-ordered like the home page items but again just a nice extra,2 points

This will be most interesting to see and I look forward to it. I have worked in product strategy/management/development/marketing for tech-based product companies for a couple of decades. I think Emby has the right overall consumer-marketing focus and direction, but as well as updating website pictures/text, there are many more marketing improvements that Emby could make with branding/positioning towards attracting new customers. (I don't mean changing the logo - more marketing-science oriented - yes, there is such a thing!)2 points

Yes you can put in Season 0 and apply position data or put directly in Season folder per folder naming or directly with episode for special assigned to specific episodes. Support for special folders underneath season folder: extras specials shorts scenes featurettes behind the scenes deleted scenes interviews Episodes can be a little tricky Support for specials right next to the episode files: Dexter S01E01 - Episode Title-featurette.mp4 But further documentation will be needed for what will work against specific episode. Dexter S01E01 - Episode Title-Deleted Scenes.mp4 Or if nested episode structure will work. Doctor Who (1963)\Season 1\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01.mkv Doctor Who (1963)\Season 1\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01\Extras\Deleted Scenes S01E01.mkv But in the end Season level Special appear the same as if you stuck them in Season 0 with positioning data.1 point

I want to thank everyone for the help, maybe someone can create a clear list of instructions from this mess...1 point

Yes, the green play icon does look nice, but the Emby logo (as it is now) should be considered as an important distinctive brand asset and should not be significantly changed unless there is a whole underlying new brand strategy and justification to support it. I really like seeing the clever graphics that are put forward from time-to-time by talented designers, but diluting a brand by being inconsistent with the logo is not something to mess with lightly. Of course the big exception to this rule is Google. Having said all this, it is however feasible to use minor logo color variations for different backgrounds and specific use-cases. I expect that Emby would already have documented branding guidelines for this in place. (Sometimes companies post the basic guidelines on their website, but not the underlying strategy, when their logo is likely to be widely used by other parties.)1 point

Questionable as it is how TVDB api works so the dev would have code around what TVDB is providing. As Emby has alway gotten complete Series in one take.1 point

Got 3.3.58 installed and it runs better but eventually freezes up after 5 or so minutes instead of just 1. Video freezes, audio continues on playing. But, Android non-tv app brings back the green bars I had reported on in another thread that Luke thought may have something to do with the hybrid mixed DV/HDR media type not being identified correctly. This one has no DV, just HEVC 10bit rather than most everything else of mine being 8bit. Correction to the OP, it plays fine on Emby Theater as well. Went to double check and somehow my install had gone bad and Theater wouldn't play anything, reinstalled and back to normal. So, the file plays everywhere as expected, direct play or transcoded, except on the TV app.1 point

I added to the code a bulk editor for changing "Played" and "Favorite" for media. You can change a single media item or a group of items. I added earlier a bulk editor for changing "Tags and genres. This should cover most of what a user would want to edit to build a desired playlist. I am now turning to building pre-built playlists. Please pass on any ideas or changes you might have. Man I hope so. I'm really hoping for a big improvement over the current version. Never been happy with theater app.1 point

I don't recommend you to install it manually unless you installed it manually last time, because some configurations of manual installation are different from those downloaded from the store.1 point

hi! From 2018 to 2024, we're still waiting for ios clients and Android clients to do the same, such as hiding the Navigation Items TAB that users don't want to see. If this is not a big problem, I hope it can be added to the development plan in the near future.1 point

Clicking "Remove from continue watching" doesn't reset the resume position. It only removes the movie/show from continue watching section on the Home page. You can reset the resume position by toggling the Played status twice which puts the movie/show back to the status it was before playing and the marker is at the beginning. So, it depends on which you want to do. Resetting/toggling the Played status will of course do both.1 point

Put the year in brackets - as per the emby naming standard. ie Clash of the Titans (2010) 1080p.mkv https://emby.media/support/articles/Movie-Naming.html#naming-your-media Failing that (unlikely) you can also put the tmdbid directly in the filename with square brackets ie [tmdbid=18823] https://emby.media/support/articles/Movie-Naming.html#id-tags-in-folder--file-names tmdb link1 point

That is how my current setting is. I can understand technically it is auto-direct. Let me see the update release or js tweak when I get chance. If the issue still persist perhaps, if guys are okay, we should connect once on Google meet and check this once (not now, but may be in future, if needed). However I am flattered with the kind of consideration and support you all are offering. Appreciated.1 point

@GrimReapercan you move this topic to Windows. What browser? Have you tired other browsers? Can you go over a specific example with server and ffmpeg logs if present.1 point
-
Example changed chunk to higher value. Direct meaning client can access the file and nothing is required to be converted. Client complained about something and forced conversion. Direct is not possible per something the client cannot do or just does not like. And turning off conversion per user setting will prevent this item from playing completely. Option1 point

Its been working ok for the past few days. I did not do anything. Unfortunately the earliest ffmpeg server logs i see are from 3 april and the problem occurred on the 2nd so we have to wait i guess but hopefully things run smoothly now.1 point

There is no way currently, although that topic has come up before (and personally I would find it beneficial). You can lend your support here:1 point

Yes, I agree with that and put forward a question about it for the Q&A that I hope gets answered in the next round(s) of answers? I had previously been using Asset UPnP for music for many years, tried Plex, on and off, and looked enviously at Roon (and still do). Emby music is good, but limited. (Some of my wishlist is covered in other relevant posts.) Emby has great music potential and improved music capabilities could open up a much wider market for new (and paying) customers. Emby needs a Roon-like music premiere version (much less expensive than Roon of course).1 point

@adamstewiegreenthanks for the great feedback. To your last point, we are actually working on updating the website now with modern pictures and rewriting some of the sections. Thank you again for taking the time to respond.1 point

What brought you to Emby? Did you leave Plex or Jellyfin or was Emby your first media server? I went from XBMC to Boxee Box to Plex to Emby. I moved because there were too many bugs in Plex, specifically there was an audio bug that, while there was a massive post in the forums about the issue, Plex never addressed over the course of about a year. I've stayed with Emby because of the forum and support - even though Emby hasn't always run smoothly on my old hardware (which changed with 4.8 btw, works great!) What about Emby do you like or dislike? All my media in one place, works well, easy enough that my wife can find what she wants to watch. I'd like to see music get the attention to detail that tv and movies get. I think Emby could be like Roon or Apple Music. I'd like to see a music app. Have you tried the alternatives out there and if so what is your feedback compared to Emby? I tried Jellyfin out of curiosity a little while after it was forked. Probably to soon, since it was basically still (old) Emby. What OS are you running your server on? What clients do you use on a daily basis? I'm running my server on a 2014 mac Mini which is also - sometimes - used as the household computer (kids and wife). Attached to it I have a 5 bay Drobo (and I just discovered today that they went bankrupt) which has worked flawlessly, I've had a disk fail and swapped it with no problems. I use the Android app side loaded on to a Nvidia Shield. My wife uses it on her Android phone and we have an old old Amazon fire tv box that gets used sometimes. Any other general comments about Emby and your experience are always welcomed. Update the website. It's exactly the same as it was in 2017 (?) when I first check it out. None of the images are current and it looks a bit dated.1 point

Hi, This one works fine. Though it has no navigation buttons but at least it jumps to the next season. So the problem only with app for NVIDIA Shield.1 point

@SynesthesiaBruh OK please let us know if you run into it again. Thanks.1 point

Hi there, how did you setup automatic subtitle downloading?1 point

Thanks for the feedback. The reason we wait is because the Synology review process takes a long time, therefore it doesn't make sense to submit 4.8.0 to them when we know there will probably be a 4.8.1 a week later, 4.8, etc. So it's just a balance of choosing the right time.1 point
-
I installed 4.7.14 on a Synology DS1520+ a week ago. Since then I've tried it on multiple device (fire TV, android TV, LG smart TV, etc.). I like it and bought the lifetime premier membership. I am looking forward to the upcoming 4.8.2 on Synology. I prefer to having the native app there rather than installing it manually. Please keep up the good work. I think this could become the best media server in the future.1 point

Hey all, for those still wanting this for Music and are using the Web App, it may be possible using custom CSS. You need to inspect your server CSS code across your different libraries and make sure Music has a unique data-index number (e.g. "2" for Music + other numbers for your other libraries, anything but 2): This is what you need to look for: Your number might be (say?) 4. But as long as your Movie, TV Series, etc. libraries are a different number from Music, this should still work. (Also, it could work for a Movie library with a unique data-index number??? I haven't tried this.) Refer to this CSS thread for details of how to hide tabs and swap tabs: This was my beginning menu bar and the end result:1 point

and yet this is probably one of the most requested features throughout history of Emby and still not done I'd like to rename "Shows" or "Movies" as "A-Z" because essentially that is what those options are and to get rid of "Upcoming" because its never been populated yet. Similarly, in TV library Episodes is useless for me as just a flat list of episodes unsorted, so again, would like to have choice of removing that option.1 point
-
As far as providing proactive solutions in the future, it would be good if Emby itself could perhaps warn via the normal UI that automatic updates aren't working for some reason and that a version is falling behind (if this already exists and I somehow was just not seeing it, then please disregard and accept my apologies). In this case, I didn't even realize the issue existed until it became an emergency when my TV's version would no longer allow me to connect to the server because of version incompatibilities, at which point I was in a rush to upgrade to fix the problem. If I'd realized this was an issue on the horizon I may have been a bit less hasty in trying to fix it.1 point
-
Also want to reiterate: No hard feelings on this end related to the whole thing, this was clearly my fault for not fully understanding the process and ensuring I had a solid backup before proceeding. I absolutely love Emby and consider premier one of my best purchases of all time. Really appreciate everything, even the recent lesson in not being so hasty with my software upgrades.1 point

I also would like to hide tabs from the music library, for example, I want to hide the "Favorites" and "Album Artists" tabs.1 point

If you're in the USA you can buy an i3-8100T off lease micro PC off eBay for under $100 which will run circles around a Shield. Will easily run Linux or Windows or even Android if you want. The Shield is just a poor choice these days. If you want to do some retro gaming as well, you can get a Ryzen 5 2400GE for about $100-$125 which will also run circles around a Shield, and you can just use Batocera while installing the Kodi plugin for Emby on it. Both these systems can software decode AV1. The Shield is pretty much dead.0 points
