In my Plex/Emby comparison chart above, I mentioned that Emby's support for Composer tags was "a huge first step." After spending some time with it, I'm seeing just how huge an advantage it is. I no longer have to misuse the Artist tag as a substitute for Composer. I thought this may be a little chaotic, since classical music albums can come in such different forms (soloist-centric, composer-centric, orchestra-centric, etc.), but after "fixing" a couple of albums to be tagged properly, it's coming together very well. The number of albums being stuffed into the "Various Artist" bucket is going down. There will always be some that belong there, but too many are there simply because they could not easily be categorized correctly. This is a game changer for the Emby web application, especially since you added the ability to make the Composer tab the default start page for a library, and with the "Appears On..." hub. When I look at a Composer's detail page, I see the albums that are specifically theirs, as well as other albums where any of their works appear. So, a huge "Thank you!" to Emby for adding these features. I'm eagerly anticipating this capability coming to the Android TV app (I use an nVidia Shield).2 points

Explaining how to "long click" (which is how to get there while not on a computer) an item to pull up a new menu and select Remove to my mother or aunt would be a tedious process to put it mildly. I am only suggesting another Playstate that Emby keeps up with for all users anyway. When my brother watches a movie, it doesn't remove it from all users accounts. Currently, the system has the check mark for played/unplayed. I would like to see another alternate icon. This would add another Playstate of Not Interested and hide the title/artist/show from appearing on the front page. As usual, you could filter items in "TV Shows" to only show Unplayed (as I do now) but it would allow you to filter them to Any or Not Interested (which would allow you to see all of the items in that folder that you selected in the past). By allowing Not Interested, you would alleviate clutter on the front page without altering Suggested algorithms. It also puts the power in the Users hands without creating massive amounts of work for the Admins.2 points

Yes, it is possible that has happened. I’m out of town for a week so I’ll have a look when I get back. Thanks.2 points

@SamES is it possible that this got changed when Emby forced FLAC inside a movie container to be transcoded? FLAC inside mkv/mp4, etc isn't supported by Tizen and causes a lot of sets to have problems, but FLAC as a standalone audio file is supported and shouldn't be transcoded.2 points
-
Works fine with the Android app on my Shield also. Think this is just a problem with Samsung app and can be gotten around by not transcoding for now. I'm on beta server and seeing the same, so think it's the app.2 points
-
Actually, I'm getting the same thing. All FLAC is now being transcoded and causes the audio to stop playing/buffering during playback. You can get around it by turning off "Allow audio transcoding, if necessary, during media playback". @SamES@Luke there seems to be a problem with the Samsung app which is transcoding FLAC audio and it shouldn't. If I turn off transcoding it of course direct plays just fine. This seems to be new as I've played FLAC using the Samsung app before without issue. I normally use the Android app for music so not sure when this would have started.2 points

Would be nice if the server could serve a custom logo to the clients, i.e replace the emby logo with something relevent to the server. This would look really neat.1 point

Hello Luke/Team, Tried to find a similar topic but couldn't so here it is. Mostly for Animes I have the language set to English as the prefered laguage to download images but some times the scrapper can't find an image in English but there are some for another languages like Japanese but it will not download it. The request will be to be able to set a secondary search language in case the preferred language can't find an image, or to be able to select a fallback language in case the primary doesn't find an image.1 point

Two days ago, the searching function on the Emby app on my Apple TV 4K suddenly stopped working. If I type in keywords or even just select the suggested keywords under the search, it searches without ever finding anything. Search works fine on my iPhone. I think this is related to a recent app update. I believe it worked fine until I closed the app, it autoupdated, and then the search function stopped working when I reopened the app. I have restarted my Apple TV and the Emby server (4.8.3.0), and I still cannot search. I supposed I should add that I can manually scroll for items, and that works fine.1 point

Just to be clear. It should transcode FLAC only in video, pure audio FLAC should not be transcoded.1 point

Any news here? It would really push EMBY over all the other Media Apps.1 point

No a Pi would not be powerful enough if you need to transcode. If you can directplay, yes, but any transcoding and it will barf. If you're in the USA look on ebay for used micro systems from Dell, Lenovo of HP that have at least an 8th gen processor. I would suggest something like this. The core i3-8100T uses 35 watts at peak, and has full quicksync capabilities. It can hardware decode and encode x265 10bit. As it's a full PC (but the size of your average pocket book) you don't have to worry about ARM garbage, and can install whatever the heck you want on it. Conversely you can use the build guides at serverbuilds forums to make something from used parts.1 point

ffmpeg can not do this. You need to download them and use makemkv as @jaycedksaid.1 point

Hi. It could have been a temporary issue on your server or network. Thanks for reporting back.1 point
-
Thanks - yes, indeed permissions issue. Before I posted, I had popped into a terminal for this and tried both a chmod 777 /mnt/emby-backup (w/o owner change) and a chown bin /mnt/emby-backup. Neither seemed to actually change the permissions nor the owner. I'm guessing that there's something up here with the volume setup using type cifs and such for the docker-compose. I had even tried adjusting file and dir modes per docker docs on smb shares mounted as volumes per: https://docs.docker.com/storage/volumes/#create-cifssamba-volumes - also without any change in permissions that i could detect. o: "username=myuser,password=mypassword,vers=3,sec=ntlmsspi,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777" I must be missing something else.1 point

I could be mistaken but your emby process runs as bin however the folder is owned by root with 755 permissions, so bin would not have access to write there. Changer the owner to bin and see if that works.1 point

This is a bad change. Having the missing episodes in the UI made life easy. This "new" change is bad. its so bad I had to google to find this thread to even figure out where in the world to find missing episodes which is a feature that has worked for years. Why make such a horrible change and then hide the feature where nobody would think to look? Watching TV should not involve frustration.1 point

Emby doesn´t do HDR and Dolby Vision on the Apple TV. Plex does. Infuse does. So, until Emby for the ATV supports HDR/DV, it can never win.1 point

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct section for sharing feedback. I just wanted to take a moment to share my experience. I recently started using Emby after experiencing constant crashes and slow loading with another popular competitor. I never thought I would opt for a paid subscription to Emby, but after using the app, I'm genuinely impressed with what you have achieved so far. The app is incredibly user-friendly, and the streaming experience is outstanding. Because of this positive experience, I happily subscribed to the premium subscription and even discontinued a popular streaming service that I had been paying for, as Emby has been working wonderfully. Keep up the excellent work team, and maintain the simplicity of the apps1 point

Here I was starting to manually convert media files to get Emby playing as is. @LessajThat did the trick. I was hesitant to try it from the previously linked post regarding the matter as there seemed to be remaining issues. But all is well now. Thank you and @Happy2Playboth for the support.1 point

Languages on the other hand is a bit more tricky. Still looking I to it.1 point

I think the difference a from 1.7.0 to 1.7.7 are negligible, so if you are on the App Store version and prefer to stay there then no need to change1 point

The usb releases are the same for all Tizen TVs from 2015 (J series) to present so it should work with your QN94A. Any functional differences between models/years is all done in the same app when it detects your version of Tizen. Link to GitHub will be in the instructions below. Glad to see your problem is fixed.1 point

I agreed with you 100% since I was from Plex. The one more PRO is from Emby I found is this Emby Forum with their devs support are great, especially is Luke. Hope Emby keeps it up.1 point

I have been continuously surprised and amazed by Emby's developer's openness and willingness to help. The recent problems have simply underlined the openness of Emby. Plex has had a few similar issues but it was hard to find out about them and even harder to find out if I was effected. Back when I used Plex they had a couple of similar problems and not even once did I find out until well after any damage was done. Fortunately the issues with Plex did not hurt my server(s) at all but that is, probably, because my LAN is well isolated and I do not allow any form of remote access. The same goes for the recent Emby issues. The difference is with the Plex hack(s) I only found out in time to check for damage but the timeliness of Emby's response allowed me to check and be sure that my Server(s) are safe well before any damage was done. I do not always agree with Emby and I somewhat dislike the actions that it appears Emby will take down the road but I hope they will rethink just how tight they need to force security. But whatever is decided I just cringe when I think what Plex would do if the same thing happened to them.1 point
