  1. Because that was it's origin - and it has the look and feel of a phone app on your TV. Very little consideration has been given to it's primary input device - a TV remote control. No button shortcuts, no long press functionality, no time based button functionality (stepped accelerated fwd/rwd) - all missing because you don't need any of that with a touch screen or mouse as your input device - but you do with a remote control.

  2. Hey everyone, I've been a dedicated Plex user for quite some time now, running two servers. Check out my setup: 4400 movies 8300 TV episodes 12K+ music albums 200 music videos 500 learning videos Got four computers handling my media: two Plex servers.( now Emby Server Version 4.8.3.0) My content's at about 40TB and growing. Share Plex with family and friends. I use web, Samsung TV, Xbox One, and Android clients. Loved Plex, but lately, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster. By the way, I speak English, French, German, Japanese, and Arabic. Just wanted to say hi!

  3. the long list of unremediated points on its suitability for use on a TV? you may say its designed for use on a TV but wide ranging user feedback has been provided that it is poorly designed for tv usage. you can't just ignore that. well, you can and are, but it doesnt resolve the issue

  4. I backup my UHDs to mp4 and some of them (maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of the files) won't playback with hdr in emby apple tv app. Using Infuse all of them play in hdr! Questions: It's the same local server, the same files/movies and Infuse plays all of them in hdr but emby app just ~70-80% in hdr. Why? My TV (panasonic) shows an info box on resolution/mode changes. Playing hdr files box shows up, gets blue and brighter and at the end "3840x...PQ" is shown. Files which won't play in hdr starts to get bright but falls back to "normal" box mode. It looks like that HDR "wanted to start" but something is missing. Could it be that Infuse sends some "extra headers"? Worked with just one file: Remux mp4 to mkv with mkvtoolnix and back to mp4 with mp4box. So video and audio stream where unchanged but after that file was playable as hdr. How is that possible? 5. Dear Developers I have now decided that I willing to pay to get this bug/feature prioritized. Because my alternative is to pay for Infuse, and I'd rather give you the money. How can I take this forward? Is there anyone else who would be willing to donate to get this issue prioritized and fixed? Many Thanks Stephen

  8. Some of us prefer to utilize embedded metadata. There are many benefits to this. All metadata isn't lost if the emby database gets corrupted. The metadata can be used by other apps, all utilizing the same metadata. Currently it's a mystery when/if/how emby uses embedded metadata (see related below). I am requesting that someone with access to the closed-source code document what metadata tags can be used for each file type. Support more embedded tags would also be greatly appreciated. Ideally, each emby metadata field could be populated via embedded metadata. Related:

  9. Hi everybody, I would love to have the users list searchable, like with a simple list filter. When using computers, CTRL+F does (most of) the job, but in the app this is not a option - or a painful to use in the mobile browser (which by itself is not a emby issue, obviously). Having the user list sortable (for example, last logon time) would be a perfect bonus for me. Currently, the "List" view doesn't even show anything but the username (which is a bit irritating, at least). I have something like this in mind: https://imgur.com/a/5Trbmtq When managing userbases from medium size up, this would be massive improvement. In my case, a filter ("search") could potentially save me hours of list-scrolling a month

  14. Long Story short I "changed" to the original Emby Version and now all works fine for me. With "change" i mean completly delet all in the appdata/EmbyServer directory and make a completly new install with Users etc. manually. Restores from Binhex Version and change Docker did not work for me.

  15. Why not just use the Emby Docker image? Then you get the one that we are personally testing ourselves.

  16. Ok, bear with me on this as I want to make sure I understand the consequences of what I would be doing. Scenario 1: I remove IM for both 4.8 and 4.9, no netvips implementation, single plugin version Yes/No - This results in my users on 4.8 + IM platforms (Freebsd? Others?) having a non-functional plugin until they join the 4.9 beta or it's released as stable. Yes/No - A small number of 4.9 users on non-Skia platforms will have a non-functional plugin. Scenario 2: I remove IM for both 4.8 and 4.9 but also implement Netvips in the same release, single plugin version Yes/No - Is Netvips already available as an imageencoder for all 4.8 platforms? Yes/No - If yes, this results in my users on 4.8 + IM platforms (Freebsd? Others?) continuing to have a working plugin on 4.8. Yes/No - If yes, all 4.9 users, including non-Skia platforms, will have a working plugin. Yes/No - If no, then the result is the same as Scenario 1. Scenario 3: I remove IM for 4.9 only, no netvips implementation, two plugin versions Yes/No - 4.8 users have uninterrupted plugin functionality. Yes/No - A small number of 4.9 users on non-Skia platforms have a non-functional plugin.

  20. It would be amazing if someone from Emby could document what metadata tags can be used for each file type. Here are the "supported" (utilized) quicktime tags I've found through testing: For images (png, jpg), I've only been able to get the "Title" XMP tag to work. All others (description, copyright, genre, and so on) don't work. It's a mystery when/if/how emby uses embedded metadata. I'd be so appreciative if an emby developer with access to the closed-source code could document this and potentially extend functionality (support more embedded tags). I prefer to tag files myself. This way I don't have to rely on the integrity of an emby database; lose the database, lose ALL your metadata. Final thought: This feature ALREADY exists. I'm just asking for it to be documented and for potentially more tags to be supported.

  26. here is my current state: kodi v20 or v21 - will passthrough anything you can throw at it plex - will passthrough truehd, dts-hd is passed through as DTS core emby for android, android tv, or fireOS most recent versions - will pass through truehd, dth-hd produces no audio. unchecking dts-hd passthrough in app settings will net multichannel pcm. someone on avsforum recently said they have dts-hd passthrough working. that person said they are using emby for android tv version 2.0.93g, which is several months old at this point. i can't test that because i can't unlock the google app on an amazon device.

  27. How many more threads can we beat up Luke in, over the issues with the standard android app The UI is slow, the app is so much slower to start-up than the ATV app, and generally it's not on the same level of UX as the ATV app. Seriously though, if the "Convert Unsupported Audio to DD" option was in the app, I could probably use it every day, but it isn't and as I have been waiting almost 2 years for it to be added, I really can't be bothered with keep trying it. This is all documented here.

  32. Hey Luke, Theater desktop on the PC in horizontal mode is my client of choice. I had a play with the android tv app on my Sony out of curiosity as the nvidia shield is often mentioned but the picture was average compared to the PC. Maybe a shield might be better. Pretty hard to beat the PC for speed and pic.

  35. It should be simple enough task to do with command line but if you want to use a GUI you could try to launch a file explorer using sudo, depending on what file explorers are available on your system. I use thunar, it has a banner notification if you're elevated, not all file explorers may have this. Winscp could actually work too but you'd have to log in to the root account to do that.

  37. I didn't find a real solution. I just modified my script to ignore my admin account LastActivityDate. When the emby app is not open on my tv, phone and computer it still says online with updates every 5mins. I absolutetly don't have any other devices logged in or functioning. All i can think of is that somewhere on some device, there is a process running on standby that isn't getting killed. Makes no sense otherwise.

  43. I solved my problem by buying a mini PC and connecting it to the router with an ethernet cable. Il I think the issue was that my old box was just too far from the main router and could only reach the satellite. It was too power hungry anyway and overkill for an emby serrver. 45. The developers have been saying for years that they're going to solve this issue and we'll finally have HDR/DV on Emby on the Apple TV. But honestly I've given up hope, I think it's something that's never going to happen.

  46. I might have found the reason: video playback quality for home network was set to AUTO. A lot of newer files won't play in hdr. Maybe because i know store them in higher quality with higher bitrate Changed video playback quality to 4k - 160mps. Maybe 50% of the "won't play in hdr" files now play in hdr! Changed video playback quality back to auto -> files still play in hdr! So the settings for (at least) video playback quality in emby app for apple tv won't stick correctly! (1) and (3) are both AUTO but in (3) they play in hdr! I'm sure that all files would play in hdr if there was a setting "don't care about bitrate/resolution - play it anyway". I'm connected over wired ethernet to my local server so the network is not the bottleneck. Files still refusing to playback in hdr in emby app plays fine in infuse => i would guess, that infuse uses a "play it anyway" setting.

  47. At any point during your creation of 9 different logins did it occur to you that there’s more than likely something else wrong with your installation and maybe trying something else would help? I can say after trying Jellyfin every 6 months or so, it is NOT more reliable than Emby, lacks several features Emby has, and there is no guarantee you will get support from them. Every time I’ve tried Jellyfin, its UIs have been inferior, there are always constant hiccups when transcoding, media scanning, etc. If you’re already having this much trouble getting Emby to work, I advise you stay far, far away from Jellyfin. Jellyfin is still a Beta (at best) piece of software that has a long ways to go.
