https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/674-media-files-folders-structure/ -> For articles related to media files & folder structure: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/folders/44000764515 404 was looking for information regarding how emby handles mp3 genres - ie "Alternative rock/Dream pop". I'll just characterize it and figure it out, but dead links are untidy. -jim3 points

Not entirely sure exactly what that use to present but you can look at each content type here. But a Mod or Admin will update this. Emby Support Home | Emby Documentation But as you would see in the Music Naming KB, Emby is tag driven for music and pretty sure will parse the slash presenting each genre separately. But documentation prefers using semicolon.3 points

I as someone whom actually does have (a somewhat different) handicap, I have never collected welfare or relayed on any businesses catering to serve me undue gifts. Although there are many peps out there that are, in the moment willing to give me a hand (non monetary), I always show appreciation (even when I find there help annoying!). I find it rather insulting that you think emby is discriminating against you... just look up how to get subtitles for free, but you are too lazy to do that (seems you don’t have a job, so you have lots of spare time) Your bitterness will get you nowhere! Be Nice! Why don’t you ask nicely for help to get your subtitles?3 points

Yep - just coding my changes as we speak - Chapter task no longer spams the debug logs .. I'll take a look at the other changes needed .. but yea, will open a new topic in the Plugins forum.2 points

It really depends, if you want full blown audio support (DTS:X for instance) then I'm not sure you have much more choice than the Shield. I have the pro and it just plays everything I through at it.2 points

Hey All, So after some time, it seems to be running stable in my environment, so here it is... This has been a bit of a battle with compatibility and time, but hope all is good. Please log any issue you may find on the repo. (https://github.com/ShanePe/Emby.SmartPlaylist.Plugin/issues) So to recap, main issue is that Emby front end has changed to not support additional files and they way .js are loaded and additional new backend libs to integrate. I did see an odd toast pop up when saving a playlist but have not been able to replicate. NOTE: I did notice on firefox that I had to manually refresh the page sometimes if it doesn't load, trying to get to the bottom of this. This is NOT backward compatible and built/tested on version Emby 4.8.10. SmartPlaylist-2.5.0.4810.zip2 points

So basically this. I have TV Shows, Movies, and Anime libraries. For anime; I'd prefer to set the default to Japanese with Subtitles. For movies, English and no subs unless forced. For TV Shows, the same. However, Emby only allows one overall setting this for this, for all libraries, instead of just one. I think it'd be a pretty nice little feature.1 point

I would like to see a plug-in developed which allows for transcoding to be offset. My thoughts are for a transcoding server (high powered pc), running cut-down/transcoding only version of Emby. Then on my main Emby server a plug-in which offsets transcoding to the high powered pc (if available) Originally I had thought of this as being a high availability server https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/41443-emby-server-high-availability But thinking about this more, my requirement isn't for high availability but simply to offset the transcoding elsewhere.1 point

@quickmic It looks like this and the following version fix the play state syncing issue after playing native, non-synced content. Thx1 point

Okay, I'm not sure how that tag is getting input in the files, but none of my movies have that. codec_tag_string=[0][0][0][0] Still seems like it would be simpler to use Emby's video range which I'm pretty sure supports all 3 HDR types1 point

I haven't been rude to you at all in this correspondance. If you feel I have, please feel fine to report it to the admins. At no point did I berate you. If my using the emphasis of caps on YOU makes you feel uneasy, understand that this is a text based medium and it is very difficult to get the importance of certain topics across to users without certain means. I am not personally attacking you.1 point

Downgrade? You are already running a very old version. -> script.module.urllib3 v1.26.16+matrix.1 Mine is script.module.urllib3 v2.1.0 I'll change the dependency requirements in next version to at least urllib3 2.01 point

This was successful and without any hassles! As suggested, I tried a couple small shows with only a couple seasons: I exited Emby, moved the episodes into newly created season folders, launched Emby and told it to scan the library folders. (I know that it would have done this by itself, but I wanted to immediately see the results.) Most importantly, which I honestly hadn't even thought of, is that I didn't lose the watch status. Thank you all for your assistance with this!1 point

Nevermind, I found the solution to my issue. Why does one always find the solution after posting the question? ... lol I entered the library and chose to view by Artist. I then noticed that the Artists were also incorrectly sorted, according to the settings in system.xml. I edited metadata for all Artists that started with 'the' and noticed that the sort order was already correctly set to 'The xxx'. I made no changes and simply saved the Artist metadata and that corrected the sort order of the Artists and the Albums. It would be nice if this step was not required, but at least I'm a happy puppy now ... lol Cheers1 point

More of a Database issue as case changes usually are ignored. Probably have to shutdown Emby and ensure you make a backup copy of the library.db and use any database viewer and go to the Mediaitems table then the Name column and filter to Discovery+ and edit the field.1 point

Luke, I think you found the problem. When I cleared the downloads, things returned to normal. It appears that is where the problem was. The fan and CPU are acting as they should. Something to take note of if anyone else experiences the same issue. I appreciate your and Happy2Play’s assistance. Thank you!1 point

Ok, figured it out. Shield installed emby for Android. Installed Emby for Android TV and all is well with the world again. Thanks1 point

I'll say this one more freaking time: YOU are providing your own media. Emby is a software for viewing YOUR OWN MEDIA. If you did the correct thing and ripped your media with subtitles in the first place, then you'd have no issues viewing those subtitles in Emby. Emby IS designed so that deaf people can use captioning. The option to enable subtitles is right there during playback. Your issue really comes down to the fact that YOU didn't provide subtitles with your files. The only reason you believe you're "forced" to pay for Emby Premiere is because YOU are providing your Emby server with bad media and expecting a paid feature (paid for EVERYONE) to be made available to you for free because of your disability. There really is no discrimination going on here. As a free user of Emby, you can still provide subtitles and view them upon playback. You're given equal opportunity to enjoy the media YOU PROVIDE, which is the primary purpose of Emby. Emby is a personal media server for viewing your own content, not a tool primarily designed to scrape OpenSubtitles because you chose not to provide subtitles with your media.1 point

I ended up figuring this out for myself. The problem was one of the MiBox's audio setting was turned to 0 out of the box, vs the other one which started at 70%. That's what I get for buying cheap lil media boxes. I have since moved on from these, and if anyone else is considering them I would recommend against them. Still, I appreciate the attempt at the help and I apologize for never coming back to see your reply @ebr.1 point
-
You are given equal access. If it's a premiere feature, then it's a premiere feature for the hearing privileged as well. Please point out how it's discrimination when EVERYONE is treated the same. It's not like you selected you were deaf during the installation of Emby and then the software decided to block that feature just for you. Plus, if the media you are trying to watch is really your own, then just rip them with subtitles in the first place. The only person denying you subtitles in this case is yourself because you opted to not include subtitles when you ripped your media.1 point
-
If you didn't provide your own subtitles, on your media, that is a YOU problem. Saying you are claiming discrimination because your pirated materials didn't come with the subtitles you need/want and saying that the process Emby adds to grab them requires a paywall is discrimination should award you a gold medal in the mental gymnastics. If you want to create them, there are tools like WHISPER that will do it for you, for free. ADA does not apply to pirated materials, let alone digital media. Again, this is a YOU problem as the pirated material you sourced doesn't have the subtitles you require. This has nothing to do with Emby. Nothing.1 point

I read the guide and still not sure how to -> you need to associate your Connect account email address with the local user on the server. I used to have Emby Connect working without issue up until the big network change couple years back ? (dont ask, I cant remember), and since I had to manually enter my IP to Add A Server to Emby connect. However, last week I was updated to a new IP by Comcrap and I am now remote and unable to log into my Emby Server since I do not know the IP. I have always known that I am missing something but because the IP was static and known, I just dealt with it... until now.1 point

Thanks guys, and I understand stopping the development of Emby for Freebsd12. It had to happen some time. As for upgrading my jail form 12.3 to 13.2, I've tried that n the past and just had errors. I can always try again. I mean it's not really a big deal as I already have the newest version of Emby on a 13.2 Jail and it is pretty much an exact copy of the Emby on the 12.3 Jail. I'll mess around with it and see what I can do. If all else fails, I can just create a backup of the 13.2 Emby server Jail and restore it to a new 13 Jail. Thanks for all responses and help. ahh I have a solution. I decided to see if emby server would install twice on the same machine. So I ran the install app, it downloaded the software, but didnt do anything else - onec it had downloaded, the install app just closed itself and it just jumped straight to the (now working) server browser screen. My theory = The disk was pretty full before, so I think it got stuck doing an update which is why it stopped working - probably ran out of space downloading the update last time ... then when I downloaded the update again (without a full disk) it 'unlocked' it. All my server settings are there, everything is as it was.1 point

yes maybe. you don't see the mouse. can you pls implement the option to force hide it doesn't make sense like this. even over a button if I don't press it... same with the lg app. maybe not new but for me it is with mouse on s9 ultra1 point

Hi, yes you can either install manually over the top or just wait for it to be released through package center.1 point

Same name shows will always have issues and will require usually year or provided id. Just no way around it as there are six different "The Hunter" series on TVDB alone.1 point

This is the problem! How do you know this is better for everyone? How about giving people a choice rather than you deciding what works best for everyone? Plex started making decision like this for its users which is why I switched to emby. Is it time to switch again?1 point

I dont want to be forced to PIN my accounts even if they are remembers - and specifically neither does my wife or children. If the network configuration has the ability to identify if I am local or not why can we not continue to utilise a feature that has existed for a long time I completely understand if you wish it to not be the default but if the user is willing to accept the associated risk for the convenience I really hope this is something we can bring back. This is actually something that should it been clearer in the upgrade logs i may have just stayed on 4.7. Upgrade logs were very vague on disappearing features. his is extremely disappointing and i would normally test on a docker or similar first but given how long this has been in beta i skipped that part. I already secure all my accounts with a strong password for when I decide to allow remote connectvity (this is not always active and i login manually) - Only i knew this password because locally "Allow logins from local network" allowed the login thorugh Now the only way to allow my wife and children to login easily is to remove all passwords from the account So can i ask a further question: If it is more secure to require a Password/PIN over the ability to "Login locally without password" - Why do i have the ability to have an account that simply has no password Surely a passwordless account is even less secure than what we had before? I will add a disclaimer here that i do agree this is more secure, but I also believe that as the end users we should be empowered to make the decision on the security risk and not have it made for us. Essentially now instead of having my accounts secured by a password, I have had to remove the passwords completely Can we please bring back the local network login? Disclaimer it that this is not recommended etc etc if you need to but this really is a approval factor for EMBY. Last I checked even Plex does not force this on its users and I really hope EMBY team listens to this feedback1 point

Hi, Is there still any plan to have ROONALBUMTAG support in Emby? If not, can there be other similar TAG which would provide the same functionality? I have no problem mass copying the contents of ROONALBUMTAG to another TAG if that would allow me to load all those custom albums TAGs into Emby. Thanks!1 point

Feature request: Roadmap/Development transparency In scrolling through the current feature requests, and having put in a few myself, I'm curious: How many upvotes does a feature request need to get before you guys actually start working on it? Is there a certain number of votes per period of time, or how do you decide what actually gets worked on? I ask because I often see a feature request, and the response is generally something along the lines of: If the Emby Team already agrees with the user, the script goes: Emby team - "It's something we'd like to do in the future, thanks." But no timeline is given. A year goes by and it still hasn't been implemented, so the user asks again, and gets a response similar to: Emby team - "We are working as hard as possible to make everyone as happy as we possibly can. Thanks." User gets frustrated, asks for an ETA, response is like: Emby team - "Hi. We have never stated this feature was slated for any particular release. It is planned for the future but not under active development yet." 2.5 years have gone by for this feature request, with almost 30 upvotes, and active development isn't even on the horizon. If the Emby Team disagrees with the user request, the script goes something like: Emby team - "This is why we think the way we are doing things is right, thanks" Users - "Hey, I see what you are saying, but here are 9 reasons I disagree" Emby team - responds to 1 point of the 9 made to tell the user they are wrong, or that that 1 little point isn't relevant, ignores the other 8 points User - gets frustrated, keeps pushing Emby team - "This thread is here to gauge user interest, we will see how many upvotes it gets and may implement it in the future" Years go by, thread gets upvoted, feature never gets implemented. The highest upvoted feature request right now in the top 20 pages of this forum has 63 requests (not even counting how many similar threads may have been locked for being duplicates), and it's not even under active development at this time, despite being created by a developer and being over 2.5 years old. To get ahead of some of the responses I'm sure I'll get, let me just say: -I absolutely appreciate that Emby exists, and I appreciate and respect the time that goes into its creation and development. I know that developing a program takes time. -Yes, I am a premiere subscriber -No, I'm not just trying to complain about this. I am simply asking for realistic responses that actually have usable substance and transparency. Some actual follow through or a roadmap so that users know if their requests are even being considered for active development, rather than waiting for ages only to be told that the item they thought was getting worked on or had a chance at being worked on isn't anywhere on the horizon. -Yes, I do really love Emby, and I want to see it grow and get better, which is why I have chosen to give you guys my money, and why I recommend it to people. Unfortunately, that doesn't negate my frustration with this current process.1 point

Hi, I am looking to move from Plex to Emby specifically because the above feature is missing in Plex. The detection appears to be notoriously buggy in both Emby and Plex, and my intended server target is low power ARM machines, so any and all transcoding is completely out of the question. Plex already doesn't implement transcoding at all in their ARM binaries, but capability detection is still implemented, frequently resulting in mis-detection and a message that media cannot be transcoded (despite the fact that the same media worked fine before and a recent auto-detection "enhancement" broke it. I am happy to contribute time and effort to implement the above feature (to disable any attempt at capability auto-detection and DirectPlay everything, and if the receiving device chokes on it, so be it), but since I have never looked at Emby code before, some guidance from more seasoned Emby developers would be welcome (starting with which files and functions I am likely to need to modify to add the feature). TIA1 point
