Yes fingers crossed on this as it's my feeling that softworkz has brought not only technical expertise but order and method to Emby3 points

Hi everyone, just to give you a response, yes this will be coming. Stay tuned in the coming months for more information. Currently our focus right now is continued support of the new 4.8 server release, as well as the new Windows app that is imminent. Following that we will be focused on a short 4.9 release to try break away from our history of long releases. Once we get through that, then you can expect things to speed up related to this. Thanks guys.2 points

I'm a plex life time member, but I have been using Emby for over six years continuously, but there is a feature which I have always thought is missing in Emby which I would like and encourage the developer to consider including especially in this dispensation where families can social or commingle due to COVID 19. Today, I received a notification from Plex about it new feature titled Watch together you can read about it here https://support.plex.tv/articles/watch-together/ The feature allows friends and families at distance to watch same movies together instantly, you simply invite all your buddy, once they signed to the system which can be seeing in the server then play and pause as needed, this I think is cool feature should be added to emby. Let's here your though if Emby developer should consider adding this feature to our beloved Emby Media https://www.bing.com/news/search?q=Plex+Watch+Together&qpvt=plex+watch+together&FORM=EWRE1 point

I wanted a colorful, but minimalist set of Library and Genre icons for when I'm using Emby on Roku, and something that stood out dramatically from the movie posters and thumbs. Here's what I did for the My Media set. Here's my Movie Genres: And the Series Genres RAR file attached with the full set as PNGs, and there is some in the archive not shown above (like Sports and Adult). Enjoy! -Mickey EmbyIcons_v4.rar1 point

Hi, I would like to have an option to choose H265 instead of H264 in the Transcode option. It will be smaller for all bad bandwidth (2~5Mbit ADSL), but will have a great quality. Mobile phone can benefit of it greatly too with the 4G and the limitation of download.1 point

Are we talking about syncing playback between users (devices) on one server, or is it more about attempting to sync playback across multiple servers. I can think of a way to sync playback across multiple devices connected to one server. But, I'm not entirely sure about syncing playback across different servers, that might need a 3rd party app, and hosting... Maybe? Inside one server, where users are on different devices, the playback sync might be easy enough... Not perfectly sync'd, but probabaly within the second... Perhaps millisecond depending on the connection speed, and location. I thought there was an app being developed which did this sort of thing, but I'm not sure what came of it. Sounds like it could be set up as follows, for a one server setup: 1. Users login (create a session) 2. One user is set to the controlling user 3. The controlling session user is responsible for beginning playback. 4. Probabaly some kind of config page off the server dashboard to setup a group to control everything... I guess... to start. 5. When the controlling session starts playback, we grab the event, and send the same command to the other device sessions in the group. 6. Maybe some kind of playstate pause command to sync everything up close (close enough) to each other. Like I say, that could be the easy part. Maybe... Across multiple server, this would need an authentication to setup, and login, sending server IDs around to attempt controlling. Might be too much for me to write. But the one server setup could be done.1 point

Could code be added in an upcoming release of Emby to make the left Sidebar, introduced with 4.8, configurable in Home Sceeen settings or set to closed/collapsed by default? It would be great if it could be set in the Home Screen settings to an initial state of Open, Min-Docked, or Closed - which seem to be the 3 states. I believe it relates to this item mentioned in the Additions and Improvements listed in the 4.8 Release Announcement? - Add three way toggle nav menu to web app - Thanks!!1 point

So the LG App is almost there and on par with the AndroidTV App with regards to a great user login experience. We can 'switch' users on the LG App now (thanks) - but we still don't have the option to 'login' via a set of user avatar's/images (and optional PIN's) when we first launch the app or it's auto logged out after 1 hour of no usage, like we have had for years in the AndroidTV app. Can you kindly advise if this is incoming for the next LG release ? - as this will then make the dream of using 'local' vs 'remote' accounts a consistent (and easy) user experience for all my LG Emby App users. Thanks !1 point

You need to stop Kodi, delete ...../userdata/Database/MyMusic*, ...../userdata/Database/MyVideo*, ...../userdata/Database/Textures*, ...../userdata/Database/Epg*, ...../userdata/Database/emby_* manually. KEEP AddonsXX.db and ViewModesXX.db Then start Kodi and perform a sync.1 point

Just my two cents: I get why the banner is annoying (you want people to pay). But I wanted to subscribe SO THAT it would go away. Providing some info on how to purchase the App that is clear might help increase the people who pay. Again, just a thought.1 point

This log looks clean to me, but yes try a factory reset. Obviously something is wrong in your setup. I hope you didn't try a KODI beta upgrade, and rolled back to KODI stable. This will mess up your config and even a factory reset will not fix the issue.1 point

It would be very useful if there was a "Not Interested" or that denoted that we, the user, doesn't want to continue seeing such item (Movie, TV Show, Music, etc.) shown on the Latest XXX category, as it simply takes space until other newer items take over, which are not necessarily items we are interested on either. But selecting 'Played' to make the disappear messes up with the 'Suggestions'. Just like Emby keeps track of 'Played' and it does functions towards 'Suggested', how about that simply removes it from continue to seeing it in Latest xxx category? I have had items sitting in 'Latest Media' for weeks, that I simply don't care for, but maybe 1 user may have requested it, but it sits on mine and everyone else's for that matter until new media replaces it, and again, it may not be new stuff that I could care for. Had a user request just about every The Land Before Time movies, 20-some of them, and sure, they are like less than 1GB, so didn't bother me taking that space, but ffs, they all sat there forever... to then again, have bunch of "I don't care for" items show up. Then a movie/show/music that I care for, shows up, I watch it, it clears out the 'Watched' and we are back at the same again... but I can guarantee you if I marked all those movies that I really don't care for as 'Played', the movies that were pushed will show up, and maybe I'll be like: HEY, forgot about that movie/show. But now my 'Suggestions' is ALL screwed up because all them other movies/shows that I didn't care for thru the algo to hell and back. So damn if we do not selected as 'Played', damned if we do and don't care for them. See how useful that option would be?1 point

I'm wondering if because this is a major change, i.e. 5.x server wise, if the Emby stakeholders want to charge another lifetime membership for it. Personally, I don't mind BUT I would want to see some other stuff done/fixed like ability to customise the top menu options that people have asked for years, option to disable the stupid side menu in TV mode (plex menu as I call it), integrate the WMC work by Softworkz into the Android client at least, have inbuilt playlists as a default list, sort WAN speed detection on "Automatic" so it works properly and add cross fade capability for music. Also not charge more than today for feature pack add-on again which must be available as lifetime option. Having said that, existing lifetime customers could be argued as free upgrade as helped develop product with ideas and feedback and put up with some user impacting changes (whether deliberate or unintended) and just new customers who pay more for lifetime option.......1 point

You are completely right, it is not working. Misleading conclusion from my side, because before it was muted and now it is transcoding. So the issue remains.. It is not working without transcoding on Emby or Plex, but works on Kodi. I'm using this demo as reference.1 point

But these seedboxs allow you to install Emby so no it is not an issue, but it is not really on Emby to provide support for the issues users have on these hosted systems as whatbox.ca does the same thing.1 point

I can confirm works perfect with Infuse (thanks @arrbee9) So both Plex and Infuse have no issues with sending audio to Sonos via LG C2, it is clearly an issue with the Emby app. I just shelled out for Emby lifetime, I have a Plex lifetime I would rather not have to buy a Infuse Lifetime but if Emby app cannot behave the same way I guess I will have to.1 point

Related to Starlink multi source satellite and TCP packets issue, video codec compression types and how that can affect playback with TCP transmission over networks with too many 'out of order' packets. It seems like the video codec type, the bitrate and audio / video compression, number of I frames, etc., all can create strange effects when networks have jitter and other non-optimal delivery specs. I think certain codecs with different encoding methods probably are more forgiving for lost and 'out of order' packets. The right test would be to have the exact same original copy of test video content. Also, somehow make sure that the first source sends the content with the same video and audio codec, bitrate that Emby does. Just because you might actually start with the same test video, it won't be necessarily sent with the same codecs to the end user playback. https://www.ietf.org/slides/slides-iepg-starlink-protocol-performance-00.pdf Emby, I think often converts to .mp4 to allow the user to playback the content easily in a browser, but that could change, depending on the users' end hardware. I have not dug into this with Emby transcoding choices. Here is a paper that shows how .mp4 deals with 'out of order' packets. Satellites delivery has the design issue of trying to handle 'out of order' packets and it seems like it takes a lot more effort to solve this, than cabled or fiber channel delivery. https://www.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/~tysong/files/MMCN09-QoE.pdf (PLR is Packet Loss Ratio.) With 'out of order' packets, the end user TCP controller, has a maximum number of packets it will accept, as being 'out of order' and then reject all the remaining packets since the first 'out of order' packet and re-request the entire group again... you get immediate buffering. Each OS either in a workstation, mobile or TV has some system of getting an average needed number of 'out of order' packets it will accept before dumping the group. TCP/IP measurement for this is RWIN. I think the average was around 25 to 30 packets 1500 MTU of 1460 + 40 bit header, so the RWIN was set at around from 28,000 to 37,500. That was wayback in the 90's, when the settings was adjustable. I think all OS now does an average setting and fixes it to a typical Internet traffic needs with some auto adjustment that probably takes a long period of problem connections to slide upwards. If the RWIN is conservative and lower, then the response time for any user click changes is faster. I know when I had to fix connection to field offices in Africa, turning up the RWIN to a factor of 40 to 50 times the MTU would allow the main office in Boston to connect to African field offices. Are these TCP settings automatically balanced for an average Internet video exchange and does that mean satellite delivery with higher packet loss issues has more playback issues? It seems this is probably true. How does each user playback hardware automatically adjust upward to compensate for satellite 'out of order' packet issues? How quick is this auto adjustment for each test hardware? Does the TCP packet handling in each hardware need a lot of errors to slide up a little? Does the new RWIN acceptance for 'out of order' packets stay there or does it revert back to the average? Are newer codecs more forgiving for end user playback on packet problem networks, like satellite delivery? Is the test video from one source exactly the same data stream delivered by Emby, even if they both start with the same master video? Can an Emby buffer cache be automatically increased when buffering is experienced? Would the Emby buffer cache help out of order packets that are being discarded by the TCP settings in the user's hardware? Isn't that a hardware level that media server software cannot control? The TCP packet controller would have to auto adjust. Emby can request to buffer more seconds, but if the TCP handling from the user's hardware just keeps discarding TCP packet groups because the 'out of order' packet limit is reached, say 25 packets where one was missing, so all 25 were dumped and rerequested? If that happens, then Emby buffering won't help, because the buffer will keep never see the discarded TCP packets that were dumped by the user's hardware TCP settings. Don't you have to adjust the auto TCP policy of the hardware to fix this? I think to get to the bottom of this, some of these questions need to be looked at and not just skipped over, as not important. To be clear, I have not done anything with Emby's transcoding or video buffering. I just don't use it. But I think getting to the bottom of these issues, requires first making sure end delivery of a test video that seems to work is exactly the same end copy of the data file in both delivery methods. Youtube, Netflix and Emby need to be sending the exact same data to the end user and not two different audio / video codecs and compression rates. Just starting with the exact same test video source is not proof that the end delivery media data from two different sources is the same. I hope this helps.1 point

The issue is solved. It was a network problem. My DHCP table was getting full as devices moved in and out of my network. I expanded the table and everything resolved itself. Embyforkodi was set up to direct play and never experienced issues. Still not sure why the phone always worked, but I have now given my Shield TV a static IP and made sure that there are plenty of available IP addresses for the device to grab instead of fighting over. Thank you for all your help.1 point

personally i feel that the length of the 4.8 cycle, the limited enhancements for users at the end of it, the refusal of the emby team to even give the remotest clue as to what might be on the roadmap, and the seemingly deliberate crushing of every single attempt made by 3rd party devs to add more functionality has killed off all excitement amongst the long term user base. but yeah, it works fine as it is.1 point

And the majority of the work that feature was largely done by others, not the core Emby team anyway.1 point

I actually agree with @strichmoand think there is room for improvement here in terms of buffering. Not sure why certain people are throwing their toys out of the pram when we are simply discussing suggestions for improvements, but hey. My emby server is connected to a 1Gbps fibre connection and one family member accessing via Starlink using Android TV client (NVIDIA Shield) has continuous buffering issues. Media on all other services play without issue (Netflix, Prime, Apollo TV, YouTube). Other users on the server don’t have issues. Speed testing the Starlink connection gives results consistently in the 100Mbps+ upstream, and real-time video calls are made relatively uninterrupted on Zoom/Facetime. The problems are consistently with Emby being able to maintain a reliable stream at 15Mbps (max bitrate on the client) on a connection with speeds in excess of that figure, which would suggest a buffer which is simply too small for some connections or there are some other streaming parameters which need to be tweaked. Perhaps there could be two “modes” - one with HLS parameters as they are now, and one with a set of parameters tweaked for slower startup/seeking and with higher buffer? https://www.speedtest.net/result/i/6017479900 https://www.speedtest.net/result/i/60174964551 point

Thanks, it worked. Except the playlists. I simply edited the .m3u and .xml files manually in the path "/var/packages/EmbyServer/var/data/playlists/". Example: volume1/old_folder/ replaced by volume2/new_folder/ I didn't have any favorites, but I can imagine that it's the same principle as with playlists?1 point

Basically I tried every other one on the list from top to bottom. But I decided tonight to use this machine for just an Emby Server and so reset it and am currently reinstalling. But already it seems to have solved the issue as I just got through the whole of Dune Part One with no pausing which is a massive improvement on every 5 minutes. Thanks for you suggestion, shame we couldn't tie it down to one thing though.1 point

An interesting discussion thread. I'll admit, I'm with the crowd here - I don't want to have to Be An Admin for one more thing, I want to just fire and forget. Seeing missing episodes in context of a show or season was useful to let me passively know that I'm missing an episode. Without it, I'm not sure if the season is continuing (I'm on S02E07, is there one more episode coming or is it 12 episodes?) and also it's easy to just press play on the next and skip a missing episode without this being shown clearly in the regular UI (if E04 is missing, it might be E07 before I get so confused by the plot that I realise something hasn't worked out). Allowing this as a user option should be extremely good, as it used to be, or at least toggling it on and off via the context menu at the user's discretion would be something at least. Having to proactively take several additional steps just to see if I'm even missing anything in the first place is an activity that I don't have time or energy for. I'm not providing this as a commercial service for hundreds of users. I'm just a guy who likes to watch stuff with the family.1 point

I have also recorded a new video of playback at 0.25x speed in the Android phone app. You can see the footage here. You can further slow down this footage in YouTube player and I think there is a clear repeating pattern: 19 frames play smoothly, then the last of those 19 frames is duplicated, then 4 frames play smoothly and the next frame is skipped. This repeats every 24 frames (19 + 1 + 4 + 0).1 point

Good day, Emby community support forum welcome any feedback from our members, unfortunately some are using that to misleading with false fact about the products, wasting other members time, we normally give these type of members a time, but some continue doing this. This community start way back on 2013, we rarely used this option with some members, when no other option to let these members stop these false fact posting, or simply spamming the forum with these type of worthless post, then we force to use this. So, if you are in this spot, no problem, it's not a ban, it simply your post will be moderated and need our mod's team to prove it, if your post start to be a good one "in fact matters" either against or with emby products, then the restricted will left off. We always welcome all type of feedback, we start this community with, and will always do. Thank you all. My best1 point

Thank you to everyone who took the time to ask the Emby team questions across all of the different platforms including here on the forums. There were a lot of great questions that were thrown our way and we've been excited to get the answers out to you. While some of the questions we were not able to answer, we did our best to give you the most accurate and clear answers possible. Now without further ado, here is the first series of questions and answers for you to look over! Please keep in mind more questions and answers will be coming in additional blog posts in the coming days, so not all questions are being answered today. Who owns Emby? Emby LLC owns the Emby product and is a private entity. The owners are undisclosed but note that the development team has full control over the direction of the product. We are not beholden to or under the influence of any investor or investment group. What is the history of Emby? Emby grew out of an open source project called MediaBrowser. Emby's origin in concept came out of that project but there is actually none of that code base still within it. Emby ended up being completely built from the ground up to be a server-based ecosystem as opposed to just a single app as the old MediaBrowser was. Around 2011 what is now the core development team for Emby were contributors to MediaBrowser. We saw the opportunity to build something more flexible than the WMC environment would allow and embarked on creating what we then called MB 3. The core developers spent over a year furiously writing code before anything was released to the public. It was then probably another two years of dedicated development before anything was truly usable as a system. In 2015 it was decided that we had moved so far away from what MB originally was that we needed a new name. A few of the devs got together and came up with "Emby". There are a few reasons behind that name but one of the main ones was that you needed something that wasn't already trademarked and domained. Emby fit that bill and has the benefit of sounding like "MB" when you say it. With the new name, we needed a new logo and we actually held a contest in the forum taking contributions from users and that finally landed us on the logo you see now. Since 2015 we have expanded the team and worked diligently to try and continue to craft the best truly personal media server system we can. We still have a long way to go but have also come a long way to where we are. What are the most popular Emby clients? We do not have exact data on this, due to sideloading and the such, but through the app store platforms we can gain general ideas. Android is the most popular amongst our userbase (both mobile and TV) with iOS in second place as the most downloaded app. What Emby clients do the development team use most for personal use? Our development team uses a wide variety of apps just as our user base does. We have people on the team using Android on mobile and TV, iOS, Apple TV, Roku and Xbox as well. As you can see our dev team really is as diverse as our user base when it comes to how we use the server. These were just a few of the questions about Emby as a product and who we are. In the next blog post we will be covering a few different things such as some of the future goals of Emby as well as release schedules and more! View the full article1 point

You are actually right, I thought you were just referencing that there were no likes on that post - but there are no provisions to react on it, either, so I guess that's something that should be discussed internally how are the cases like this handled, cause even though the poster is anonymous now, it is still a valid FR and likes are one of the metrics (not exclusive but quite indicative) when gauging community interest in a feature. And even if there were likes on that post at some point in the past, were those lost on account deletion? @Abobader1 point
