Hi everyone, just to give you a response, yes this will be coming. Stay tuned in the coming months for more information. Currently our focus right now is continued support of the new 4.8 server release, as well as the new Windows app that is imminent. Following that we will be focused on a short 4.9 release to try break away from our history of long releases. Once we get through that, then you can expect things to speed up related to this. Thanks guys.14 points

@@Luke stated in a previous post (https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/49933-replaygain-music-support/) adding support for this could easily be done for at least the theater client seeing as the player used already supports replaygain. I'm making this feature request in hopes that this support is added, as I have no dev experience myself4 points

Thank you to everyone who took the time to ask the Emby team questions across all of the different platforms including here on the forums. There were a lot of great questions that were thrown our way and we've been excited to get the answers out to you. While some of the questions we were not able to answer, we did our best to give you the most accurate and clear answers possible. Now without further ado, here is the first series of questions and answers for you to look over! Please keep in mind more questions and answers will be coming in additional blog posts in the coming days, so not all questions are being answered today. Who owns Emby? Emby LLC owns the Emby product and is a private entity. The owners are undisclosed but note that the development team has full control over the direction of the product. We are not beholden to or under the influence of any investor or investment group. What is the history of Emby? Emby grew out of an open source project called MediaBrowser. Emby's origin in concept came out of that project but there is actually none of that code base still within it. Emby ended up being completely built from the ground up to be a server-based ecosystem as opposed to just a single app as the old MediaBrowser was. Around 2011 what is now the core development team for Emby were contributors to MediaBrowser. We saw the opportunity to build something more flexible than the WMC environment would allow and embarked on creating what we then called MB 3. The core developers spent over a year furiously writing code before anything was released to the public. It was then probably another two years of dedicated development before anything was truly usable as a system. In 2015 it was decided that we had moved so far away from what MB originally was that we needed a new name. A few of the devs got together and came up with "Emby". There are a few reasons behind that name but one of the main ones was that you needed something that wasn't already trademarked and domained. Emby fit that bill and has the benefit of sounding like "MB" when you say it. With the new name, we needed a new logo and we actually held a contest in the forum taking contributions from users and that finally landed us on the logo you see now. Since 2015 we have expanded the team and worked diligently to try and continue to craft the best truly personal media server system we can. We still have a long way to go but have also come a long way to where we are. What are the most popular Emby clients? We do not have exact data on this, due to sideloading and the such, but through the app store platforms we can gain general ideas. Android is the most popular amongst our userbase (both mobile and TV) with iOS in second place as the most downloaded app. What Emby clients do the development team use most for personal use? Our development team uses a wide variety of apps just as our user base does. We have people on the team using Android on mobile and TV, iOS, Apple TV, Roku and Xbox as well. As you can see our dev team really is as diverse as our user base when it comes to how we use the server. These were just a few of the questions about Emby as a product and who we are. In the next blog post we will be covering a few different things such as some of the future goals of Emby as well as release schedules and more! View the full article3 points

Hah, upon posting all that I notice the problem... the movie I used isn't transcoding... it's remuxing. Silly noob me didn't realise there was a difference. With an actual transcode, it works. Sorry bout that. Let my shame be a lesson for future noobs to learn the difference ;).2 points

I made an updated version that should fix the issue. This should also be compatible with nested folder structures, the "Top Picks", and the "New Releases" plugin. I also improved the logging a bit. However, I did only very limited testing, so use it at your own risk and please create a backup before you try it. Do not use it if you are unwilling to restore your backup in case something goes wrong. AutoCollections_1.0.0.9-libraryoption.dll2 points

@LukeCan you please help us understand the reasoning behind removing the config file method of overriding the transcoding settings too, with no way to override them from the UI too? The API way is really not ideal, especially since it also requires an additional plugin since the required settings are not available in the core. It's been 1.5 years as mentioned and this really shouldn't be taking this long since the underlying stuff seems to all be present, minus the UI.2 points

As suggested by @ebr I have split my original request to allow better monitoring of interest and progress. The original request is here https://emby.media/c...brary-overhaul/ If you are interested please like the post. I always wanted to have this feature! This is something that was offered by Flickr. It would use the coordinates where the picture was taken stored in the EXIF and display the picture in the world map. I think that this was a bit specific in the past because we needed to have a GPS module tied to the camera but now every smartphone does this out of the box (without even asking your permission). Here is an example from Flickr where each point is a picture that you can display when clicking on the point:1 point

Can we please add a feature for the musicbrainz plugin to allow for custom musicbrainz server URLs? I run my own musicbrainz mirror and would prefer if the requests are redirected locally. Thank you1 point

personally i feel that the length of the 4.8 cycle, the limited enhancements for users at the end of it, the refusal of the emby team to even give the remotest clue as to what might be on the roadmap, and the seemingly deliberate crushing of every single attempt made by 3rd party devs to add more functionality has killed off all excitement amongst the long term user base. but yeah, it works fine as it is.1 point

I haven't got it very well though. I think its this - /* Move My Media down to show 1 row and add grey background HAPPY2PLAY */ .homeSectionsContainer { position: relative; top: 55em; background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5); } /* IT image */ div.view.flex.flex-direction-column.withTabs.page:not(div.tabContent.tabContent-positioned.flex.flex-grow.is-active) {background-image: url("https://wallpapercave.com/wp/wp2088492.png");background-size: cover; } /* IT logo */ .sections.homeSectionsContainer::before { content: ''; display: block; background-image: url(http://sogrady-media.redmonk.com/sogrady/files/2018/06/2000px-IT_2017_film_logo.svg_.png); width: 80%; margin: 1em auto 0 auto; height: 16em; background-repeat: no-repeat; background-size: contain; background-position: center; } I used this https://static0.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Gollum.jpg for Gollum but never got a Gollum logo... But the image shows up where it (probably) shouldn't, like the backdrops for most My Media items and the TV guide1 point

The story that it's been 4 years since being raised, the pandemic/lockdown has been and gone and we are still waiting for this feature - despite it being #2 on the wanted list (if you add all the different 'versions' of what is ultimately the same thing - multi-cast-97, watch together-61, watch together2-49 - 207 total. #1 - Recommendations/Watchlist has 293. Smart Playlists is #3 @ 132. These 'features' are things people ultimately want - 4.8 was a long time coming, and the 'headlines in the Blog' were about PIN's and Playlist permissions ... yes lots of small fixes, but nothing to innovate or shout about. Makes me a little sad tbh - the days of exciting previous innovations such as Intro/credit detection and the new possibilities of real AI integration seem a long way off if we can't even get the basics out the door.1 point

It actually is as Emby will add the additional folder because user were applying custom paths to say metadata and trancoding-temp to the same custom path (Emby-stuff) and now transcoding clean-up nukes metadata do to no separation. So forced subfolder was the solution.1 point

Frank, perhaps it is good to consider that the online services you mention have all preencoded content. There is no transcoding required by any of these online services. The stored content might have multi versions of resolution, but the files are all available to stream immediately, nothing is being transcoded. OK, so with Emby, most all the time content is being transcoded to meet the needs of the end users hardware and connection. If you want to compare apples with apples, then create a collection with all content at 1080P, video H.264, mp4, audio two channel AAC, an optimium bitrate of around 2400 kbps, no alternate audio and no subtitles and see if multiple people accessing this library at the same time has any issue. If you are asking the Emby server to transcode multiple master content at high bitrates, mkv, AC3 audio, and bring the bitrate down to match the needs of various users, then you are taxing the server with transcoding at the same time you are running your speed buffer test. I think you are comparing apples to oranges, so to speak. It's not a correct speed comparison test.1 point

Hi. You are making a large assumption that this feature will solve your bandwidth problem. There is a discussion earlier in this thread on why on the fly transcoding is not necessarily going to do that for you. In your case, it would likely be much more effective for you to use the conversion features of Emby server to create "roaming friendly" versions of your content if that is a common case for you.1 point

I have exactly the same issue, It stated with the new version of emby. I record the TV in a folder, postprocess them and move them to another folder. I have the option to 1) all episodes 2) Don't record episodes that are already in my library. This happen mostly on Series that are rebroadcast. Yesterday it was the file "La une S01E02 Les deux pieds dans l'arène.ts" that was recorded even if it was already in the library. embyserver-63845539200.txt1 point

I'm just glad @ShaneP is still willing to support his plugin. It's the #1 thing I use in Emby and I appreciate his efforts! I'd rather wait for the update than not have any update at all.1 point

I personally don't have a use for this feature...but at the same time, this is just a thread for a 3rd party plugin attempt. The feature request thread, with a few more upvotes, is here:1 point

I’d like this feature adding at some point also. It’s a nice to have, not a must have for me personally. As to why it’s not done yet, I suspect it’s prioritized lower than other features due to the feature request post being liked by a relatively small community group and when considered against technical complexity, risk to introduce breaking changes and forecasted revenue impact. to increase priority in the backlog, you could help get additional likes to the feature request, or provide objective data re revenue impact due to lost subscribers or potential new subscribers. ill add my upvote now too. Total now 5 likes.1 point

Can you post a server log but sound like you're getting failed connections to provider sites. Are you able to update to 4.8.3.0? But have tested 4.7.14.0 without issue so will guess specific to Synology or your location.1 point

HI, try using the metadata editor to set the musicbrianz id for the artist and see if that helps.1 point

@LukeI have activated the top and bottom options and deactivated the two middle ones. Because my server hardware would not allow transcoding (in terms of performance). In other words, either the server can transcode and then there is no error or it cannot transcode and then it does in case of doubt. If I deactivate the last option, my livetv stream doesn't work, among other things, but that's a separate topic, I'll open something about that soon. I was and still am a little surprised about the error, now it is trascoding on a machine and an error is displayed, although it shouldn't do that. If only one user has just caught a file, then it just works, but if there are 2 streams, then my system is at 100% and not much works anymore. What then remains is the question of what he doesn't like about this file, I haven't understood that yet, another sequence with the apparently same data doesn't lead to any problems. I can provide the two files if it helps. Thank you and I will come back to you separately regarding the LiveTV. Best regards Seger1 point

Thanks, @ebrand @viking19... I'll double-check the issue on my Samsung TV and report it in the right section assuming the problem still exists. I believe when I use the Windows web browser option, no problem! I'll also check my Android (LG) phone.1 point

This isn't a feature request in the conventional sense but just want to add a vote to this. I use Emby for music and radio/podcasts driving into work and literally a minute after I leave my house I hit very, very, very heavy traffic and never get a chance to stop until I'm basically at the office... so as I leave wifi range and the connection gets lost and the music stops, it becomes a difficult game of trying to restart the Emby app, disconnect/reconnect Android Auto, restart the phone, etc to get it working or else I go the whole drive without music (first world problems, but still lol). I've gotten into the habit of turning wifi off on my phone before I leave the house and it's fine... but for when I forget, it'd be a godsend if it could unscramble itself as I switch networks.1 point
-
If you're not actively playing media, then our apps can recover automatically from changing networks. When you're actively playing media, this is an area where we need to improve on.1 point

Yes you should have IP reserved on your router for this system or a static IP address assign as it will break Port Forwarding with every change. If you are use Port Mapper then it may be failing.1 point
