@bakes82I meant that in the nicest way. The always putting Emby in the bad light while praise the other guys with good light. You come off like a sycophant. One that isn't rooting for the home team. So when you sit in the bleacher section on our side it becomes strange you root for the other side so often. It becomes less about what you post. More about that you feel you must post. Like above all you are the mouth piece for everyone here. There are others. They haven't posted because you sucked all the air out of this thread. You can pick Emby apart but you don't need to repeat the same things over and over to get your point across. We get it. You want things done at the speed of light. Damned how much it costs in dev time. Damned any family time you get to spend there. Everything must be done now. This is a small team really. It isn't some giant behemoth taking investors money with those investors demanding you return on their investment. It is a small team trying to do what you want. But time isn't endless and we all have real lives. There is a multitude of reasons why things take time. I really cannot explain why things take longer anywhere else except Roku. So please take what I say with a grain of salt. I am speaking from my own point of view. Not from the full Emby team point of view. Q) Why cant I know how many device slots are being used for premier? A) Because scumbags exist, read this as people who resell Emby subscriptions commercially to sell content they do not own copyright and then use to their financial advantage. Right now those scumbags have no idea how many slots they use, and then their paid subscribers come here and innocently disclose they bought from scumbags. Because bad people exist we cannot have nice things. Because bad people exist time must be spent chasing down that crap to try to bring it all down. Just stuff like that makes it harder to do nice things. Q) Why doesnt the appletv support DV? A) Because Apple does not make it easy. I do not know the real answer. But I suspect like on Roku, hard stuff takes longer... Q) Why hasnt the UI changed in how many years? A) Not sure I am fully following. Change the UI in which way? Can you elaborate on this? Q) Why cant I kill a stream as a server admin? A) A number of reasons. The client might not be able to be remotely controlled, like Roku. You would have to give a specific example where this happens for this to actually get solved. Q) Why dont movies auto group like series? A) Because movies have alternate cuts, extras, etc and you can already group multiple movies by version in the same folder. There is a plugin that exists can be manually installed that does this. I use that plugin. Luke has also mentioned this is coming in the future. It will make your library scanning take longer when it does. Q) Why cant I pin collections to the home screen A) Because I have no idea what that means. Did Luke add that to some app or say we were going to do that? Does that add more value than other featues being added first. What is the priority you think pinning stuff should be put at? Curious... Q) Why is there no A-Z to be able to quickly navigate to a section of movies/series? A) On which client? Do you mean on Apple TV for all these? I mean seriously I like the way you back to back the questions. More people need to do this. I seriously do not have an answer here. I can guess though. On Apple TV adding 27 small buttons in a row vertically off the left side is harder to do than the other apps? Otherwise wouldn't it already be done? I cannot only guess why. My answer when things aren't done is always going to be because it takes longer or is harder to do which may not be correct for others. I can only speak for myself. You obviously aren't here to discuss things with that attitude. Otherwise why on Earth would you ask me and quote me for the refund. I am the Roku dude. Is the Roku letting you down? Okay, if it lets you down then I fail. So then how can I help you? Otherwise you are just really here to slow us down. It serves no purpose to have this type of dialog just to salt the water and kill all life as your last comment. You were doing good up until the point everybody died. Kinda. Remember we are human beings just like you. So lets talk about your issues. The subpar experience is something you talk about but I do not see it coming from anyone else. How is this subpar? Please give us your honest opinion. Don't say copy the other guys. Honestly give us some kind of idea what you mean. Do you actually drive past though? I bet you stop at that guy occasionally, just to check prices so you can be sure you are selling yours for slightly less on the other corner? Haw.. see, I can joke around too. But seriously lighten up. We aren't crack heads out stealing mail to get your SSI check.7 points

@speechles I haven't been following this whole post, just saw an interesting thread and jumped to the end. Sounds like it's been quite a row, but I appreciate Emby so much. I tried Plex, then switched to Emby, and have been very happy with the change. Between this and the main "Ask the devs" thread, they feel a little bit like "Beat up the devs" threads, but I appreciate what y'all are doing. I've had some of the best customer service of my life from the Emby team, keep it up.5 points

NEWS! A final decision is imminent now. All I can say is that it will be either yes or no - but nothing half-way. No matter how the outcome - at this point I want to say a big thanks to all of you for your interest and for supporting this. Thanks to all the testers who participated in the initial beta for all your work and effort in helping this to become a successfull parrt of Emby. Also thanks to all the nice and friendly users and community members, moderators, admins and fellow developers who I've had the chance to work with and talk to so far, during the past few years! Best wishes, softworkz2 points

This could be a fun plug-in. I don't think it would be necessary to have it be an integrated features. It would really just need to be a subtitle file with trivia.2 points

@bakes82You are a strange bedfellow. One who constantly mentions ex-boyfriends and old lovers while in constantly company of the current boyfriend. You do know this is weird, right? Not being mean. Its just you come out just to try to knock us down or something compared to your old boyfriend/lover. Why is that? There is something about the universe that makes it seem to people this is acceptable lately? Because it is very off putting. Just find it strange.2 points

Unless something has changed in the last couple years, I can assure you my Apple TV wouldn't play something from the server in my own house when the Plex service went down. And it wasn't that rare. The questions, I'm sure, have been debated endlessly elsewhere... But the over-arching theme with Plex is that it isn't one decision that someone may disagree with, it's the general direction of everything they do. Adding all the "free" content you could get elsewhere with countless other services (Pluto, Crackle) intermingled with your own content is a move towards becoming a streaming service... Tracking your log-ins through their service, rather than locally on your own network is a way to control access to content. That's important if you intend to charge for premium content down the road... Unless it has changed since I quit it, you couldn't even delete the play history of a user/e-mail address that you previously allowed to use your server. Now why keep play history of your sisters e-mail address indefinitely? Just more tracking data to market and sell.... Plex is moving from being a media server, to a streaming service that is nice enough to allow you to include your own media. No thanks. I'm all for these services making a buck... I like Emby... I want them to make a buck too. They do good work, they are always responsive to issues and even development requests for features... They should be paid for that. But I don't want another service tracking me, especially inside my own house. For me, every decision Plex was making was going in the wrong direction on that front...2 points

Since with a lot of movies a chapter start corresponds with a fade-in, many chapter images are just plain black squares. It seems like a simple way to fix this would be to grab the chapter image from the chapter timestamp + 5 seconds or so. Is this something that seems feasible?1 point

I searched but couldn't find a similar request. If one exists with or without all of the options below then please lock this one and point me in that direction. Now that all users are required to login with username and password at least once on each app/device it would be nice to have the option to use a one time password (OTP) for the initial login on any device but mainly TV apps and streaming devices where it's difficult to enter long strings. It doesn't need to be limited to initial login but should at least allow that. 1. Allow any user who is already logged in to an app or browser to generate a one time 4-6 character OTP for themselves to enter on a new app/device in order to login on said app. This would only log them into their account using the single OTP. 2. Allow an admin account to generate an OTP for any specified user to login. This would be useful for Emby admins to help remote users, particularly those who have difficulty with apps and on screen keyboard-remote combinations. Or to help household users while away from home... 3. The generated OTP would be associated with the corresponding user, either self or assigned by admin. No need to enter or select name on the app login screen, the OTP would suffice. 4. The OTP should be created with a short time to live, either fixed or configurable. I don't know enough about Emby Connect to suggest how it should/could work for those users. EDIT: Evidently Jellyfin has a similar feature called Quick Connect but I don't know if it also has the ability for admins to generate codes.1 point

Please allow more flexibility and/or admin control over Parental Controls & Restrict Items With Tags. in its current state only one tag can be added at a time. Perhaps by allowing separating by comma or space between tags e.g and/or allow the use of wildcards so we can add similar name Tags in one line e.g by using tagname along with "*" or "?" in lieu of adding multiple Tags for users with library restriction. Last, but not least, viable option introduced by user @seanbuff HERE is also an highly attractive one. Thank You1 point

An incoherent statement, first saying that it's in every client, then that it's not in the web client (which of course it actually is). Since you say you don't even use Emby, perhaps you should refrain from commenting until you've found the opportunity to get some real experience with it. I hope it doesn't hurt your feelings to say that I expect very few people are even bothering to read your posts any more.1 point

This is usually related to websocket connections either not establishing or timing out. Do you use a reverse proxy? Does it have websockets enabled? Within an nginx config, its the lines: proxy_set_header Upgrade $http_upgrade; proxy_set_header Connection $http_connection;1 point

Have a look through your emby logs for messages about media being removed from the database. Maybe you'll at least get to see which ones and can look into those files directly.1 point

@muppet4kits not that i dont want to do it, i just dont have time to do it. You can actually scan recording folder and do sub folder for movies and series. \recording\series \recording\movies1 point

Do you think you could create a new fresh log, run up the plugin and wait for it to hang then immediately pull the log? That one is a good 50mb!1 point

Just updated to 4.8.3 and refreshed metadata on the few combined episodes I have and they are now all catalogued correctly and no longer show as missing. I marked the above as the solution but to anyone else that comes looking for the same issue I don't think there ever was a 4.8.2 release so the fix came in 4.8.3.1 point

Yeah, I would think subtitles would be the best way to do this. In fact, it could be done right now without a single line of code needing to be written. Just create a subtitle file with the "facts".1 point

@quickmic Hi, I figured out what is causing the "playback failed" problem I was originally reporting with dynamic libraries. Playback will fail if you select "more information" instead of directly selecting "play." Set the default video action under Settings > Media > Videos > Default Selection Action to Play and it works fine. But set it to Show Information and then select Play or Resume when the information dialog is shown and playback will fail with the message "Playback failed [OK] One or more items failed to play. Check the log file for more information about this message." You can test this quite easily by selecting Choose. Play from there works. Play after more information doesn't. It dos not appear this is a skin problem as I tested with several different skins and it happened in all of them. And it's important to note, if the library is synced it will work fine even if you access videos through the dynamic library menu. It only fails if the library is not synced and you select show information before play. Hope this makes sense.1 point

1 point

This is fixed in 1.8.4 (2), which also remembers the user password so it is possible to switch back and forth again without reentering passwords. I still can't help but feel this should have been pushed out before the server changes that broke it to improve security, but it feels like there is less and less love for the Apple TV these days? It still works better than the Fire TV Stick I use occasionally.1 point

Hmm, that is strange. Sounds like it's stuck on a particular theme for a show. Can't see why it would just hang though. Have a check through the debug log and it should tell you what theme it's trying to acquire. Let me know it's tvdb ID and I'll check what's going on server side.1 point

It's a nice idea, similiar to the 'X-Ray' on Prime for example. The API allows you to send a message to any client and it's trivial to read from a .txt file - but the main blocker here is who is going to put the 'facts' together ?1 point

They said NOTHING about illegal content. Pretty tacky to jump to that conclusion. I'm with the OP on this being intergrated. I don't know the laws in other countries but here in the states we are allowed to record one copy of a show or movie for our own personal use as long as we get the channel the content is provided by.1 point

Vaultwarden (bitwarden) has a great option where you can select 'login with another device' once you've entered your email/username, then you'll receive a notification on a device you've already logged in with asking if you want to auth the new login. So for example: open xbox app, select user, 'login with another device' Open notification from android app, click 'allow'. Xbox is now logged in. Just another idea to think about.1 point

Entering a complex password even once with a tv remote (that has no number pad) is really bad. And this is for every single device and every single user. Just give us the option back and put a big security warning on it.1 point
