Update: Hey all, just thought I would put out a little update, there was quite a major change to the way v4.8 Emby frontend handles loading scripts and the like, so after much frustration (and help from @Luke) I can proudly say that I have the backend and frontend working with Emby 4.8. I have noticed one or two small issues I still need to address and would like to do some more testing to make sure all is well, don’t wanna break everyone’s stuff. I’ll drop a new version in the coming days if all goes well.9 points

As you wrote the original code @chef, then you say if it's public or not - what emby copied/used/derived/asked to use/didn't ask to use in their private code is imo irrelevant. We kept it closed source at the time as we knew JF were sniffing - but I see zero reason why it cannot be open source now ? 100% up to you my friend.4 points

I have a pretty big library (two figure TB) and the Emby database is about 120 MB... In this day and age that is nothing. I'd much rather have an option to add this feature back for a bit bigger database. Hell, even twice the size is NO problem whatsoever tbh4 points

In agreement with everything @samuelqwesaid above. Maybe ask @chefif he wants to change the private repo to public - but in it's current state, some elements of the plugin are broken - and many sticking plasters have been added to make it work as integration to use the clients 'skip' was added after that got implemented (actually @Cheesegeezerwrote that bit) - and tbh was one of the main reasons why development stopped as we were told this was breaking things (which it wasn't..). I still use the Plugin today rather than the Core as frankly the Plugin still works better for me, but for how much longer I'm not sure. Emby need to finish what they started - no ability to change/lock the data, no editing, no credits, no exclude, no ignore episode 1 intro skip, no permission based skip, no proper intro naming/labelling, no stats etc The MVP attitude is a little sad - we were proud to be better than Plex at the time - with all the features we added (the main one being Credits) - now emby is sadly lacking the competitors in this area, as well as many others such as transcoding DV etc where once it was at the forefront.. We should not be 'catching up - we should be innovating...3 points

Look for settings enabling web socket connections. In an nginx config it's the lines: proxy_set_header Upgrade $http_upgrade; proxy_set_header Connection $http_connection;3 points

OK, looks like I found the issue. Without realising it, I had 'Under attack mode' turned on in cloudflare. I changed it to 'High' level security setting, and now I can connect using the android app & emby connect! So, I guess the app and connect cant beat the interstitial page, but a web browser obviously does. Thanks for the pointers guys, much appreciated.3 points

Hi, Thought I would give some quick feedback on emby after using it for a few days, coming from a Plex user of several years. The big pro's: It just works for playing back your media, almost every file I have tried works without faffing about, using FireTV & Shield clients HW acceleration and tone mapping works (apart from a problem with tone mapped HD appearing dim on SD devices, probably a setting somewhere...) Just concentrates on my media and nothing else The one big con's: Music smart playlists - everyone in my family uses smart playlists, things like not recently heard tracks, favorites tracks, favorite dance, genres mixed with ratings etc etc General music playback - Plex has a separate music playback app called Plexamp which is really outstanding in navigating and playing back your music, auto generated mixes, library radio, sonic adventure, headless playback via a Pi etc. If at least playlists could be sorted I would consider switching over full time. Anyway hope this helps in some way2 points

A friend of mine brought over a mini pc i5 with 64gigs of ram with 3 external 16tb drives for me to install ubuntu server on and copy my media onto his hard drives last night. He bought a monthly key for emby and I set it up for him as an emby server only and he will be connecting his external drives to his windows pc and adding movies shows to the ubuntu server over a shared network. So here's the thing, I have never had any luck with live tv on any windows server I had ever used for emby not ever but I added live iptv to his ubuntu server last night and put on a starz movie channel in my living room on fire stick and left it run and even now today while I am mapping channels the same channel is still playing without a hitch. I have never seen this before, emby live tv has never played for me more than a couple hours without shutting off. It will take a few more days for me to finish copying my movies to his external drives so I get to test this out a while longer, looks like I will be switching everything to ubuntu server also and going from 16gigs of ram to 64gigs. Maybe emby was just choking due to not having enough ram or the fact that ubuntu works better or maybe a combination of both. This definitely puts a smile on my face after years of trial and error with live tv finally finally found a solution2 points

Thanks - although on initial inspection the information was correct (Remote (WAN) address was pointing towards the correct remote address), i noticed that Last connection to information pointed to the local ip address. i think i have figured out what was going on and have fixed my issue. Both my servers ( which are geographically apart- UNRAID is the local server and OMV is the remote server) share the same LAN IP address (10.0.0.50) on there respective networks (I did this to make it easier for me to troubleshoot and to use the same bookmars in the browser). Additionally, i was using the default port for both of them. It seems to me that when i connect to the remote server (OMV) it grabs the In-Home (LAN) network IP from it. When i reconnect to it ( say restarting the app or when i click change server) it first tries this LAN IP - and as this was identical to my local server IP (UNRAID), it instead connected to my local server. I have fixed this issue by changing the ports on one of my server. Although i understand that my case could be an edge case, i wonder if the code to recognize when to use remote ip and when to use LAN IP could be improved.2 points

Kinda related, but if I manually identify something that's been misidentified, anything that has no info in the correct identification retains the incorrect identification. For example, if it's incorrectly identified as something that has an IMDB ID and a TMDB ID, then I manually identify it as something with only a TMDB ID, the incorrect IMDB ID is retained. Same goes for artwork.2 points

@NitroNine@Jägs I've been researching and experimenting with this a bit more (on and off) over the last couple months. If you are using the web app you can use custom CSS to likely achieve a Music view that suits your needs.. It is possible to hide any sections that you don't want to see and also swap the order of those that you do want to see. Check out this thread for hiding Sections (thanks to @beckfield ) Check out this thread for changing the order of Sections: The various bits of CSS code should work for the latest stable Emby Version 4.8.1.0.2 points

Okay, now we are cooking with Crisco olive oil! The HDHR doesn't have a web interface, but I did a channel scan via the app and now the channel shows in Emby. What had me thinking the HDHR was okay was because it already knew about the channel as I showed here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/124572-huntsville-al-channel-483-changed-to-365/&do=findComment&comment=1310894 I didn't know Emby relied on the same channel listing the HDHR apps did. I guess the channel list from the app scan gets stored back to the tuner. Weird that the API saw the channel but the HDHR doesn't automatically add it to its own channel list. Thanks for helping get to root of this and it being such a problem.2 points

Since we can now detect end credits, or manually add them in other cases, it would be nice to see this, rather than an automatic percentage/time remaining, trigger the "next episode" popup and decide whether an episode is resumable or not. Even better if it could expand to movies for the latter point.1 point

Can we get the option to lock external IDs, just like you can lock other items under metadata? There are times when the show you are adding isn't in your main metadata provider, but it is in the 2nd or 3rd option. However, Emby overrides the lower options to find the most similar one in your main provider. It would be great to add the ID from a 2nd tier provider and then lock it so Emby won't search another provider for that particular title.1 point

Hi, After upgrading to version 4.8, all of the My Media category images changed to have transparency shadows instead of the black shadows in the old version. Is it possible to bring back the black shadows? They do not complement the aesthetics of Apple TV and do not match the Live TV interface if I want to add Live TV to the home screen. Please see the attached photo. Thank you in advance.1 point

I have a lot of scraped informal movie data, and I often use Filters to filter Genre under certain actors to watch. Since 4.8 became beta the Genre Studio Tag in Filters has disappeared.... I install almost every version to see if it's back. Currently I'm stuck on 4.7.14.0. Will it be added back? I'm using the translation1 point

Hi there, let's look at a specific example: How to Report a Problem Thanks.1 point

I’ll admit, I didn’t really think about that at the time. Although I was involved in the project since the very beginning, I did not write the plugin. I wasn’t the only one involved in the decision to go closed-source. I cannot change the fact that we decided that, at the time, going closed-source was the way to go for the project. Right, I don’t think we ever expected Emby to add everything the plugin does, that would be unrealistic. I am happy we even got the feature at all, though there is always room for improvement. As I said earlier, and I can only speak for myself, my mentality at the time was more in line with the second scenario you described above. I wanted to see the feature in Emby and it eventually got there. I didn’t really think about it beyond that. Thanks for all the work you do! Chapter Editor is very useful1 point

I can test the beta app, are you talking about side loading it or beta through the Google Play store? I never got in on any beta for Google Play. I am in it on the fire TV though.1 point

Just to follow up; I think the easiest solution will be to stick to 1080p/H264 releases. I was able to direct play some HEVC content on the Windows PC in Emby Theater today, but it isn't consistent. Most of my devices don't have 4K resolution anyways, so I'll just adjust on my end. Thanks for y'all's help1 point

But that is fundamentally the difference in an open project, you want to share your work with everyone, regardless of the project, it is how open projects work. If you have that open project vibe you are happy to share your thoughts, ideas and research with everyone, that is how I treat all my plugins and projects, a number of them have been used in other projects like Jellyfin, its cool, that is what I did the work for, its open so everyone (the whole media sharing community) regardless of project gets to benefit. Do I agree with everything all the other projects do, no not all the time, but people should have alternatives, a single solution ecosystem is just bad for everyone. For most uses this is just a checkbox on the feature list of the product and that is ok. For some they want power options to fine tune this and that is also ok. Emby is going to in most cases supply the MVP (minimum viable product), they just don't have the man power to do anything else. Emby is trying to give the broadest users in their customer base that check box, and they do that reasonably well. If you are enjoying the work and users find it useful, then it is never a waste of time. This all come back to what motivates you to do the work in the first place. 1. If it is because you enjoy the work and want to help the wider community, then keep doing the work, it is never a waste of time. 2. If it is because you want to help the Emby team build a better product and beat all the competitors and the Emby team is telling you not to do the work, then yeah, stop doing the work. I am all about 1. While I want Emby to succeed and will help with that, that is why I am here and not elsewhere, I also like building shit and the shit I build generally helps the media sharing community.1 point

I don’t doubt that. It’s not like we were doing anything particularly new and innovative, but we had worked hard on getting to where we were and we felt we had to protect it for a bit longer. That’s pretty much it. I was referring to the way things went down when Intro Skip was integrated into Emby. Essentially, we were all happy to see the feature natively implemented. It was the first version and it was a very basic implementation, but we expected that. We then made suggestions, were told improvements were coming, and those improvements never came. Alright, we’ll just keep working on our plugin in the meantime and use it to fill in the gaps, we thought. But then anytime we suggested doing that, we kept getting told it was a waste of time and that the improvements would be coming soon, and they were telling people to uninstall and stop using our plugin. Seems like they don’t want us working on this. Fine. I guess we won’t… I don’t think the Emby developers had any bad intentions, but we didn’t really like how this was being handled, and had little motivation to pick the project back up.1 point

@LukeThanks for the quick response. It's all set up through a lot of Synology's automated processes so I think it would be hard to compare to that tit for tat. But I can take a look. EDIT: I took my phone off the network and the Android app wasn't refreshing either. Put it back on my network and it worked fine. Guessing it probably is a setting somewhere in my reverse proxy. I don't know what to tell you, but FF and Edge are doing the same thing. The options are different in the FireTV app, for instance, so that needs to remain on Horizontal Stretch for the video to display correctly for the duration of playback. I suppose that's possible, but I'm seeing this consistently with multiple files. If this were the case it must be some kind of mastering error on the original DVD. But, as I mentioned in my first post I compared the headers of the problem files with others that playback correctly, and I didn't see any differences (though admittedly I'm not an expert here). Of course. I cut the first 10 seconds from the video I took screenshots of in the first post; this is a direct stream copy so it has not been re-encoded, and I've confirmed that it exhibits the same behavior on both FF and Edge. The full file is too large to upload here, and is also under copyright, so probably not a good idea to have it posted in the forum. But if you have a more direct way for me to get it to you I'm happy to supply it. Thanks. Test.mkv1 point

It's not new. The general rule of thumb is to use ParentId for folder tree-specific function, and use SeasonId/SeriesId for tv show-specific function. ParentId and SeasonId will usually be the same, but is not guaranteed. The same idea goes for audio files with ParentId and AlbumId.1 point

Cool, just worked it out before you posted. This is the best Emby plugin by far. I have 10,000's of songs in my various librarys, and can make perfect playlists in minutes! Thank you for the great work! @Lukethis needs to be part of the Emby catalogue! Makes Plex Stations look amateur!1 point

OK this is great and all but what good does this do for a regular user watching a series and not realizing an episode is missing or being able to easily see future episodes without having to dig in multiple menus. This is fine to add but i believe someone else already mentioned it, but the missing episode stuff is a end user feature that most like to use and have readily available, and as far as managing the missing episodes most are doing this in Sonarr or similar. I would rather see something like this created to help find duplicates or episodes and movies with multiple versions, this is a filter Plex has had for a while now. I know i have talked to several people that want the missing episodes option restored. Someone mentioned the performance hit, and something about it being dynamically generated now when a user looks for it. I have never noticed any performance issues and i have a pretty large library. Can we have an option to turn it on in the clients and list it in line like it was, and have it default to showing upcoming episodes.1 point

I would suggest removing that custom css once you have the 4.8.2 maintenance release. An adjustment has already been made for this and you will no longer need it.1 point

@NitroNine@Jägs Yes, you are not the only ones. I would also prefer Songs to be below Albums. I suspect that many Emby music fans would have large ALBUM focussed libraries rather than large SONG focussed libraries. For me the songs/albums order is the main aspect that I don't like on the Album Artist pages. Everything else is very good overall. (Possibly people that stream a lot of their music from online services, e.g. Spotify, Tidal, etc. would prefer songs first???) There is at least one way to set up Emby to show only Albums, but it would take a lot of work and you also lose much of the other good info. Essentially you could make the main Collection folder a defacto Album Artist Collection folder by assigning music Albums into individual Artist Collections. I was experimenting with this over Christmas and posted a suggestion here: Even though this is possible to set up, I still personally prefer the current Album Artist pages with all of the fields (Songs, Albums, Tags, Appears On, etc.) Maybe one day in the future we (or Emby) will be able to change the order to suit Album oriented libraries?!?!?1 point
