Right now there are two ways collections are displayed: 1. they are not displayed and the contents are displayed just as if the collection did not exist. 2. the collections are displayed and the contents are hidden unless you enter the collection. I suggest there should be two other display options. 1. The collection is displayed inline with the movies and the contents are also displayed in line. 2. both the collection and its contents are hidden unless it is navigated to in the collection menu. Also these options should be selectable by collection and there should be a library default. The default for the library default should be exactly as it currently is. This would give greater flexibility and it would be possible to have some large collections that are displayed inline without the hassle of having to use search. As an example we could have a "John Wayne" collection that would display inline with movies and it would contain all John Wayne movies. When you are browsing for a movie to watch it would show up just like collections do now but it would not hide the contents from regular browsing. This would give greater flexibility to how libraries get displayed and make browsing more fun and easier for those of us that often enter a library with no idea of what we really want to watch.4 points

I think the biggest issue I have with Emby's handling of beta and stable releases is that the actual plan for the next 4.x release is buried in countless threads around the forum. Following the actual major changes in the next stable release involves deciphering a (sometimes vague) changelog over the course of 100 beta releases or probably thousands of posts made by various members of the Emby team for hints. I linger pretty regularly and I have no idea what to expect with 4.8 besides the public/private playlists. In a way it's kind of exciting, but if the goal is to keep the users here engaged in Emby and its development, feeling oblivious for too long can be disheartening. It's not so much about missing deadlines, but the idea that the development pipeline for Emby seems disorganized, like they're trying to appear in control through lengthy beta cycles but still frequently change direction on a whim by packing in every idea that seems feasible at any given time. I'd have to think it'd help them internally to say "X, Y and Z features seem like a reasonable goal for 4.8" and really truly stick to it... but of course, it's all just conjecture on my part. For instance, make 4.9 the big "watch together" or "smart playlist" release and get every developer they have across the server and all the clients focusing on it 100% (if something like smart playlists doesn't require extensive client changes, have those devs focus on client specific QOL for that cycle). The changelog won't be as impressively long but I bet whatever the focus of 4.9 is releases incredibly polished and fairly quickly. I'd have to assume being able to advertise cool new features more regularly with confident timelines would help market the software too.4 points

Much of the testing is visual, so hard to automate; also the sheer number of different configurations (platform / processor / gpu / connectivity / client) is so vast that the devs couldn't possibly have each one available for such testing - this is where the beta users can be a real help. 13 server types X 14 apps = 182 possible combinations of server/client to test every function on with every build. Makes me really appreciate the work the devs and all true beta testers are doing.2 points

Then they shouldnt provide any details about dates/timelines or say "soon". They should be like plex, and not offer any information related to release schedules. But when you say in December, oh everything is ready to go we just waiting until after xxx because xyz would be on vacation and then days later you start implementing NEW UNTESTED features, that means they had no intention of releasing it. Emby dev set the false pretense of them being able to release and add features because they constantly say oh sure we can do that or soon and then they never accomplish it. Also, if you look at the patch notes you have no idea what to test, when it was implemented or what came before/after it. There is 0 mention of any regression fixes, so if you look at the notes for .76 you don't see "* Fix regressions with live tv playback" that was supposedly fixed in .75. So, was it fixed, why remove it from the notes? Also why are we testing any of these things, the majority of "core" features should be automated and/or have unit testing that block these from even going out.2 points

We don't officially have a beta for TrueNAS Scale, but the 4.8 stable release is coming very soon.2 points

I would say that my previous issue was resolved with a clear lack, you cannot choose which languages to use as a fallback for metadata not found in the preferred language. Example of this problem: Solution: To be able to choose which languages to use if metadata in the primary language (preferred language) is not found, an example is HAMA Plugin for Plex1 point

I would like to see a plug-in developed which allows for transcoding to be offset. My thoughts are for a transcoding server (high powered pc), running cut-down/transcoding only version of Emby. Then on my main Emby server a plug-in which offsets transcoding to the high powered pc (if available) Originally I had thought of this as being a high availability server https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/41443-emby-server-high-availability But thinking about this more, my requirement isn't for high availability but simply to offset the transcoding elsewhere.1 point

I'm Emby premiere user now for few months. I too hope there will be option for Audio syncing settings in Emby, ASAP. I'm especially looking for such an option in Emby Theater. If that would be possible using Keyboard shorcuts, that would be great. Using external player (which can adjust audio sync) with Emby Theater is not an option - too much annoying bugs and problems.1 point

I don't know if I may be the only one, but I never care about the songs list appearing on top when going into an artist. It would be great if there was a away to either remove the songs section, or change the order so albums can be on the top?1 point

Hi Luke, thanks for the follow up and apologies for not having provided an update. I did the restore from backup which covered off the users. The reconfiguration of the rest of the server was simply recreating the movie and TV libraries. The scanning of the existing folders did not result in any duplicate srt files, images etc. To make a long story short it was a painless and successful migration.1 point

No we don't but I'm sure the beta audience is a very small percentage. While we don't have a full picure (no telemetry!), looking at the downloads of the Windows version gives a figure of about 0.5%, which means that only 5 out of 1000 users are on the beta.1 point

Hi @GrimReaperand @Ceten I had a similar issue with my movie library, but with German language. I wanted to share the solution I found as it was a bit tricky to find it. Concerning the language settings above, my movie library was set up correctly - in my case to Language "German", Country "Germany" (most commen German speaking country). Anyways, I was getting descritpions and titles mostly in English, though a translation in de_DE existed on TheMovieDB. The problem was the priority settings of metadata providers. I dont't know how it happend, but in the metadata providers list "TheTVDB" was prioritized over "TheMovieDB". For the movies that also existed there (and it was the majority in my case), translations do rarely exists. Setting the priorities in the correct order solved the whole mystery I hope that saves a some people a lot of time!1 point

RottenTomatoes score comes from OMDb API/plugin, for that particular movie score is as shown. Save manual check/comparison, can't think of a way.1 point

Ok, so I cheated a bit and reloaded each of the plugins when I shoudl have been working..... No problems, they all loaded ok, with the exception of the Virtual TV plugin, which I'm waiting to get the correct version. So the problem is fixed.1 point

Since the last reinstall it seems to be working ok. Regarding the previous installation, I have modified the /config folder. Before it was on an external hard drive and now I have put it in /opt/docker/volume...1 point

Thanks for that. I'm looking, can't seem to find any restrictions though! Sorted. I had referenced the media drive like I had done previously for Android (using IP address). Funnily enough, using this, it updated the media library, but wouldn't play. I then changed the IP to the Drive letter, and now it works. Thanks1 point
-
I'm guessing it's a low priority issue then, but to me it's the only thing keeping me from migrating my library to Emby. If and when this is looked at, please contact me if you need any more info or help.1 point

Dolby processing is off in the shield settings. Pretty close on the hardware connection... Emby Server - Unraid NAS > Gigabit Ethernet > Shield Pro Emby Client - Shield Pro (HDMI Out) > HDMI 1.4 > AVR (HDMI In) (Denon AVR-300 that does support all of the audio formats that I am working with) I'm only dealing with 1080p content, for now, so the avr using HDMI 1.4 shouldn't be an issue with my lower but rate video feed paired with the passed through, uncompressed, audio. Also as I stated: if I change nothing on the shield, other than set Emby to use VLC as an external player, all of the audio codecs do what they're supposed to and there is no video stutter. I'm going to try double, and triple, check all of the shield settings to make sure there's nothing weird set by accident.1 point

You're correct, however when someone gives a time frame ("this holiday season") and it doesn't happen, then it would be nice to know what happened that caused it not to happen. Imagine asking a friend or family member to help you with something and they didn't show up, didn't call, didn't text on the agreed date/time... That you wouldn't have tried contacting the other person, asking what happened?1 point

I think for m3u an option to only import channels with certain tags would be handy.1 point

Sure, the code below is what I am using. I'm just running it on an apache webserver with mod-php. Note that this works specifically for my use case, has limited error checking and is not 'production ready' in any way. <?php //get channels by tag $tags=file_get_contents("https://127.0.0.1:9981/playlist/tags?profile=pass"); $lines = explode("\n", $tags); $ouputM3u=""; foreach ($lines as $line) { // Check if it's a channel line (starts with '#EXTINF') if (strpos($line, '#EXTINF') === 0) { $name = str_replace(',','',substr($line, strpos($line, ',') )); } else { if(strlen($line)>1) { $channelTag=file_get_contents($line); } $channelTags=explode("\n",$channelTag); foreach ($channelTags as $channel) { // Check if it's a channel line (starts with '#EXTINF') if (strpos($channel, '#EXTINF') === 0) { $currTags = substr($channel, 0, strpos($channel, ',') + 1); $channelInfo = substr($channel, strpos($channel, ',') + 1); // Add the group-title tag before the channel name $channel = str_replace(',','',$currTags) . ' group-title="'.$name.'",' . $channelInfo; } $outputM3u .= trim(str_replace("#EXTM3U","",$channel)). "\n"; } } } $outputM3u = preg_replace('/^[ \t]*[\r\n]+/m', '', $outputM3u); echo "#EXTM3U\n".$outputM3u;1 point

We'll add it as soon as we can. There's nothing you can do to force it to be enabled in the meantime.1 point

Maybe, maybe not. You can certainly factor the development cycle into your decision to start/continue subscribing to emby premier. However; your subscription does not obligate the emby team to provide you with new software releases. Especially not on any particular schedule. Motivate? Sure, obviously they'd like to keep their customers relatively happy; but they're not obligated to. Again: it's their software/company/product; they can do with it what they like. Like anything else in life; decisions have consequences. Their choices could drive off customers, or entice new ones; but those are still their decisions to make. 4.8 will be released when the Emby team is ready to release it and not a moment before. Constantly pestering them for a release date won't speed up development. Nor will acting like you're entitled to their work and demanding prompt releases.1 point

Now when you add movies to a channel, you can select the movies from Collections or Playlists. Vic1 point

Apologies i think i caused confusion. I was using Emby Theatre WMC. Not Emby Theatre...although WMC generally works i think softworks said to use this client on the Beta and i moved back to stable [4.7.14] which might explain why Alexas not working as expected for the "next track" function. [The ui next track button works as expected in WMC] (next track command works as expected on Emby Theatre from windows store)1 point

For DDNS users switching providers or with multiple providers this can simplify things. Supported on Windows, Mac, Linux and routers running Tomato, DD-WRT and I think Merlin. https://www.dnsomatic.com/docs/supportedservices1 point

Since I'm running my server from my house on a dynamic IP from my internet provider, support for Dynamic DNS was a requirement. Google domains had worked great for me for a long time, but with the change to Squarespace with no DDNS support it's a no go for me now. I just transferred my domain name registration from Squarespace/Google to Namecheap. Cost me $13 for the transfer, and was super easy, all done in a few minutes. The namecheap interface for managing the domain was simple and actually very similar to Google, so it was familiar and easy. With google domains, my ASUS router directly supported DDNS which was very convenient (although it didn't always work 100% reliably). Namecheap isn't supported by my router directly, but they have a Windows dynamic DNS client that I set up to run on my Emby server which is always on anyways, and it seems to be working just fine. For those with more experience than I, namecheap dynamic DNS also works with DDClient (primarly a linux tool, but there is apparently also a windows install). I'm by no means an expert and make no claim that this is the best solution, but I did just make this change and it seems to be working well so at least this is one working option to consider.1 point

Just for completeness sake and to let others know (if someone finds this post), I tried the solution: Movies/0-9/27 Dresses (2008) - [tmdbid-6557]/27 Dresses (2008).mkv and Emby was able to add it to my library, identify the movie and get the metadata. Thanks again.1 point

If you look threw your recordings and find any recordings that have multiple parts. By using windows file explorer. Search for *-1.ts . After you know what files are split. Then just run the joiner while it is beside the monitor app. The joiner will be started automatically by the monitor app. When monitor app restarts a recording. But you can run the joiner at anytime. It will wait until there is no mb activity. Then the joiner will join all recordings in recording folder and sub folders. So if you haven't been using the joiner. The first time it runs it will catch up and merge all in your recording folder. I would just look to see before what needs joined. So after you run it, you can verify it's work. But since it's the first time running the joiner. You might want to verify all your partial or maybe duplicate recordings you have in dvr folder. Cause if you recorded a show say 2 times fully. The joiner don't know it's 2 full recordings. It will join them and make twice as long.1 point

It's not that simple. They have different layouts and feature sets. What we can do is add jump buttons similar to what you see with other library types so that you can get to the separate screen for that library.1 point

"When it's ready" is the mantra. It was widely expected earlier this year, but the work that is being done to rework the log-in system following the security breach in the spring has caused delays... Paul1 point

Emby Server is in no way picky regarding CPUs. The issue regarding Alder Lake is about media hardware acceleration only. Intel made a larger change for newer GPUs which needs adaption in software and drivers and these are too large and risky to backport to 4.7..1 point
-
Never knew Emby server was picky about processors. I run mine on an ancient Lynnfield box I built in 2010. The 750Ti in it is still going strong too. Also runs a Channels DVR server and a Quakeworld server at the same time. Even with crappy I/O (SATA 3) it still runs fine.1 point

It'll be released when it's ready. All efforts are supposed to be just on debugging now rather than new features - but (following the security issue) also on getting the new password and login system into place. Paul1 point

I discovered the possibility to use remote transcoding servers via this tool: https://github.com/joshuaboniface/rffmpeg The problem is that the tutorial is only available for Jellyfin. And I did not test under Emby. If people have more information, I'm a taker.1 point
-
Slightly offtopic - but related ... One aspect that has puzzled me - is if a file is being transcoded anyway - why is there not an option to 'keep' that transcode for future use ? (*) It will then add as a multi-version - naming it with a suitable bandwidth ready for next time. I completely get that a 'real time' transcoded version will not be at the quality vs an offline encode at the same bandwidth - but it seems such a shame to 'throw away' all that CPU/GPU processing ! (*) I'm not even sure if this is technically possible - I presume it would need to concatenate all the .ts file back into a single file and would obviously only happen if the media was played 100% with no user intervention ... Maybe that is the reason ?1 point
-
You could take it a step further and create a Emby Transcode Client" that monitors resources on each client and the server could send work to each client based on what it is capable of and what resources are being used. I have 3 Nvidia Shields and two are asleep most of the time, My main server is OK but does not have hardware transcoding capability and uses a lot more power than my two shields. I could install the "Emby Transcode Client" on each shield and the server could send the jobs as required.1 point
