  4. OK, you're into marketing. I'm into being able to use what I bought. Unfortunately, the stable Emby release breaks as soon as TrueNAS gets an update. Don't ask me why that happens; all I know is that I have other jails with other apps in the same TrueNAS server, and Emby server is the only one that breaks (i.e. it fails to run). I haven't been able to use Emby since (around end of?) summer of last year. Why this userspace app breaks whenever there's an OS upgrade beats me.. It seems some other people have the resources, time, interest, and/or bandwidth to mess around with nightly builds and stuff. Power to them, but that's not me; my days are pretty full, so by the time I get to get some rest, I just want to enjoy using something, rather than getting frustrated trying to fix things that should be working. Unlike what some people have strongly suggested in prior posts, just expecting the software to work isn't unreasonable, and in Emby's case, the software's ability to work is not only dependent on itself (i.e. fixing issues with Emby, betas, etc), but also on external factors that tie into release cycles (e.g. TrueNAS upgrades to fix its own issues). Since you're into marketing, I figure you know that the above points need to be taken seriously and into account. In addition, going by what some others have posted, it sounds like improving at the project management level wouldn't be a bad thing either. There're many FOSS projects that could be used as examples on how to deal with deadlines, feature freezes, etc. (e.g. Linux kernel, Ubuntu distro).

  6. One more request with the Home button in my case the green button. When you go to guide and click on a programme and press the home button it doesn't work however if you click on the programme on "On Now" the home button works. Any chance you can get the home button to work in both. Thank you Recording 2024-01-26 102456.mp4

  7. I so miss the fast TV tuning feature... going from 4-5 sec to load an IPTV channels to 1-2 seconds was an amazing user experience improvement I'm sure they wanted to include in this release. Hopefully they will figure out a way to make it stable for everyone or give people the option to enable the feature if it requires a high end system or something else to make it work.

  9. I cannot give you a timeline, i can only say i have it already working for Playlist playback. But there's one thing that gives me headaches. Who's watched state should be used, from the account that is playing the channel or from the user of the channel config? Let's say we have 5 different Emby user. Case #1: Watched state of the "playback user" is tracked If one of the five users never watches a specific series, the series will be shown in the guide for eternity. Not ideal, but acceptable. Big problem is, with Continuous playback i do not know who is playing the channel until the playback has started in the client. But then it's already to late! I'm evaluating some workarounds for this. Case #2: Watched state of the "channel user" is tracked If one of the five users watches a specific series everytime it is shown in the epg, the other users that watch the channel only at random times will miss many episodes. Defeats the idea of playing unwatched episodes in order, but is "easy" to implement for all playback modes. Possible solution: Now that we have unlimited channels, i could provide a button to duplicate channels and an input field to define Tags for a channel. This way an admin could allow or block certain channels for different users and the "channel user" watched state could be used for the special playback feature. Of course, more channels will extend the guide refresh time. What do you think? @Dibbes@HeroHabit

  10. Ouch, should we alert all linux users that they can't use collections? No, collections work just fine. What I would suggest is focus less on the contents of the server data folder and focus more on creating collections using the user interface. Are you able to manually create a collection using the user interface? let's start with that.

  11. Yes that still could be possible and no it's not websocket related. The reason it still could be possible is that it's very common for devices to have separate networking stacks for their audio/video players compared to the rest of the system. Reason being because usually it's some kind of cross-platform a/v player with everything self-contained, including the networking. So that's why could you see the UI accept an SSL certificate but then the player reject it.

  12. 4k H264 requires hardware that can decode level 5.2, (added in 2016) which is pretty rare. Due to the amount of bitrate required for such a picture (minimum of 25mbit), it has basically been abandoned as HEVC became the standard. Like Hi-10P, barely anyone has support for it in hardware and encoding it is "a waste of resources". H264 is for HD, HEVC is for UHD and higher. H264 does officially support DCI 4k and higher (support added in 2016), but again, finding hardware that supports this is difficult to impossible. And @shaglordAV1 will be abandoned as well as it's starting to hit patent hell, and either AV2 or VVC will replace it. You should just replace the tablet, seriously. AV1 is a cluster $^T#$% of horrible documentation and fragmentation. It seriously needs to get it's collective %#$#% together if it wants to have any future. As it stands, it is not end user friendly at all, and it is basically only useful for large corporations. We are almost full circle to propietary codecs again.

  13. Right now there are two ways collections are displayed: 1. they are not displayed and the contents are displayed just as if the collection did not exist. 2. the collections are displayed and the contents are hidden unless you enter the collection. I suggest there should be two other display options. 1. The collection is displayed inline with the movies and the contents are also displayed in line. 2. both the collection and its contents are hidden unless it is navigated to in the collection menu. Also these options should be selectable by collection and there should be a library default. The default for the library default should be exactly as it currently is. This would give greater flexibility and it would be possible to have some large collections that are displayed inline without the hassle of having to use search. As an example we could have a "John Wayne" collection that would display inline with movies and it would contain all John Wayne movies. When you are browsing for a movie to watch it would show up just like collections do now but it would not hide the contents from regular browsing. This would give greater flexibility to how libraries get displayed and make browsing more fun and easier for those of us that often enter a library with no idea of what we really want to watch.

  14. Hi I would like to request that, when viewing a collection, Emby groups items in the collection by their library type (Movie, TV Show, Music etc). Currently all members in a collection are mixed together under one heading labeled "Items", as shown here: Here is a mock-up of how I think it would look: As you can see above, the Alien Collection has both movies and sounds tracks, and so I think they should be grouped together. Many Thanks Stephen

  24. The Roku Media Player cannot direct play all your media. There are times when you may have no audio and just silence. Or other times when you just get fed a black video stream with nothing showing. Other times it just says "Cannot play this media". Roku Media Player only has the ability to Direct Play from USB. If you use Emby on Roku you can get around this limitation. The Roku app will read the device information from your Roku and then run tests to determine what can direct play on that exact Roku device. It will then give these capabilities to Emby server along with a device ID. Emby server will know exactly what each device is capable of playing based on these capabilities and their device ID. It makes it so you can just press play. Then Emby decides how best to send the media to your Roku. If it needs to convert the video, audio, or subtitles to work on the Roku it will do that on your Emby server and pass those to the Roku. You can see these devices in the devices tab of your Emby server when you choose the manage server option. I do not have any alternative suggestions because being able to transcode unsupported media types is too nice of a feature to lose. There is no other way that unplayable media can become playable without any user intervention all 100% automatic. This is why you should stay with Emby. We also have playback correction when direct playable media encounters errors. On Roku media player it cannot play through these errors and will stop playing. On Emby we have "Playback Correction" and automatic error recovery which will attempt to restart the media using alternative playback methods to continue the stream playing. This is not possible using Roku Media Player.

  25. Guide seems to have issues when there are programs that are long running in Emby WMC Gui it is exactly the same as in WMC. I started before 12 and then when it got to channel 7mate the time has changed to 2.30pm. Another annoying issue if it is now 1pm and you go to 5pm and go to another screen and come back it is at 5pm it should revert to what it is now. Also noticed couple of time where the channel logos are that the guide text also appears like 7hd it showed cricket but can't find how to reproduce it again.

  29. Home view on Roku Movie library suggested view on Roku Movie library grid view on Roku Movie library folder grid view on Roku Movie library folder grid view on Roku ( use the ... 3 dot menu to open the display settings when on the grid ) ---- When using the Roku it is usually best to keep "My Media" always at the top. Make sure not to disable this My Media or you won't have entry points into your libraries. If you set this up like I have mine above all will work as it should. All the above screen shots show that the Movies library does work as well as the folder view of the movie folders does work on Roku. Please make sure you follow the advice given by @ebr as far as setting up your library paths. Also make sure you go to the "Scheduled Tasks" section and perform a fresh library scan and wait for it to finish. Once it has the database will properly contain metadata from partner websites. It will provide a Netflix type experience for you. Where Emby keeps track of what you have watched. What you have favorited. It keeps track of where you leave off so you can watch the next episode on TV shows. It keeps track where you leave off on movies so you can resume. The reason people use Emby is so the software can provide a customized experience for each user. If you set up different users for your children, your spouse, yourself, etc that is where the power comes in. You can each track individually how you proceed as far as consuming content and Emby will keep track of where you are when watching that content. Can you show us a picture of the Roku screen as you see it. A cellphone picture of any quality is fine. As long as it shows us what you see. Then we can suggest ways to make it more like what I've shown you. Where it becomes better the more you use it. Then Emby has more information about what you watch to make suggestions and starts to offer new things to watch. You just haven't given us enough time. It is worth it.

  31. In certain circumstances the scanning of a large library can take a long time. I have something over 5300 movies and over 40,000 TV episodes and something like 3000 pictures. I do not judge library size by terabytes as some people keep very large files while others, like myself, keep their files as small as possible while retaining watchability. My largest movie file is something like 3.5 gb and most are in the 1-1.5 gb range. I just completely redid my backup server (pointing at the same files) and the scan has taken 1.5 days so far and it is not finished yet. I used to obsess over things like "When will it be done" but i now just get things started and let it run and then I check back periodically (maybe once or twice a day) just to be sure things are progressing. The last time I rebuilt my library from scratch it took almost three days for everything to get downloaded and attached to the correct file. It will take time. And, if your naming/structure is not exactly what Emby expects it could take longer. After the scan finishes the will be a number of files that are either mismatched or not matched at all and you will have to fix those manually in a lot of cases. As you have problems, and you will have problems, just post back here and someone will try to help. I do suggest that you create separate threads for each problem as if you jumble many problems together many will get overlooked.

  32. Personally, I've been using Emby for, maybe 7 years, and I don't think I've ever used the Folders view. There's lots of useful stuff to explore, so I'd give it a good go before any chucking out. Entire up to you of course.

  35. What the hell for, no one is call others names (yet) it is a bunch of passionate users loudly discussing and disagreeing on stuff, all sorts of weird stuff with no "correct" side, people started using the analogy argument style and I find it %^&* hilarious to read the grasping at straws trying to compare Emby to a clothes shop, nearly fell of my chair and spat out of morning coffee My 2 cents, the main problem with Emby "BETA" is it is not a beta, it is a nightly build and as such should not be called a beta. A beta is a feature complete build with bugs you want tested and fix bugs in so you can release it. The Emby beta is a nightly build that has NEW features and function and thus new bugs. If the Emby Beta was an actual beta then more people would test it and the release cycle would be much quicker.

  38. Not even remotely accurate and you damn well know it. Emby is a MONTHLY subscription which means rather it's the current 4.7 or the beta 4.8 or the future 4.8 release one is paying for continued support. I'm not fan of @crusher11's post but that part of you post is pure BS. Now your second post is more like it.

  39. Good morning @EldontyrellcorpI apologize for the long delay in answering your question. When I programmed Bulky, I was just learning the Emby APIs and how to build apps. As a consequence, I didn't take your use case into consideration when writing Bulky. I am trying to get the time to rewrite Bulky, and when I do, I will fix this problem. I greatly appreciate you pointing this omission out to me. Users like you have provided the ideas and suggestions that have made Bulky a good program. vic

  40. While I do think the Emby team needs to take a more focused approach with releases and not let months turn into years in an endless cycle of new features and testing phases... I think that's kind of the curse of being a small team. I see it at my work too, having less-than-adequate internal testing and never feeling comfortable a release will go smooth enough to commit to. I also think it's kinda silly that people are installing betas, refusing to help test, then complaining about things breaking or how long the testing/release cycle is. The beta isn't a sneaky loophole around the Emby teams release pipeline... it's a beta. They release more often because the standards are lower and there's an expectation the people who install it are willing to help beta test. The beta will add and fix things, it'll also break things. That's how betas work. As much as some people want to have their cake and eat it too... eventually you gotta give up something. If you're beta testing without the testing part, I think you lose the right to complain about how long or difficult the testing process is for the devs.

  42. Hello, I have still problem that I'm not able to fix yet. It happens with HEVC files. If the subtitles dropdown have a subtile to selected and the file is transcoded, it will not play. It will just stay a black screen. - It works if I direct play the file - It works if the subtitles dropdown is empty before playing the file I tested on a Shield TV and it works without problem, it seems related to the iOS player and also i have the same behaviour on Safari on Mac OS. I tried the server with the stable and beta branch, the result is the same. Regards

  46. Wow! Adjusting database cache size really sped things up for me. I have 32 Gigs in a windows 10 Pro that I am using for a dedicated server. I set it to 256 via the system.xml edit, rebooted and went in and out of the App several times and BOOM! Thank you for this! My Roku Ultra just screams through the Emby app now.

  47. Problem solved. Let me just summarise it in case someone else falls into the same rabbit hole. The installation was failing because I had a manually created a user called emby. I must have originally created user emby to own all the media files for the emby server. Later on I installed Madsonic to serve my music - with the media pointing to the original files owned by user emby. The installation failed because a process from the Madsonic server was using user emby (possibly just pointing at directories owned by user emby). I was able to install the latest release of the Emby server once I uninstalled Madsonic, changed the owner of the media files, and manually deleted the account for user emby Luke, thanks for your help.
