  1. It seems like the actual release date is one of those mathematical constructs where no matter how many steps you take toward it you can never reach it. That is there are a countably infinite number of steps between where we are and where we are going and that means that we will never reach the release date no matter how close we get. Or another way of thinking about it is that whatever the current distance is between release and beta we cannot take any step toward it other than one covering exactly half the distance and subsequent steps can never be greater than half the remaining distance. that means we can never actually reach "release" as half of anything greater than zero is also always greater than zero.

  2. If people are so concerned about the length of time that a new Stable release is made available, why not install the latest beta and help test it and have access to the new features. I have run either dev or beta server for the last 11 years. Yes there is the odd occasion where things break, but that's just part of being in the beta team. If you don't want to use the beta server for your daily use, then at least set up a test environment and install the beta to try and see if there are any issues you can find that others can't. This will make the release more "stable" when available, rather than having to wait for a fix. Stop whinging, and either wait for the release, or get off your backsides and help test the new changes. Thanks.

  3. Same issue with latest beta .71 @Luke Do you want us to report this with every beta build?
    3 points
  4. ok - I'll setup a 4.7 Release server - import my config and then do a 4.8 Beta update on it and report back. I'll start a new thread in the Beta section so we can keep this specific upgrade seperate from normal Beta feedback. Thread here for those interested -

  5. Sounds like whining to me, but I don't disagree with your sentiment, although it's all down to Luke and the development team to get to a point where they're happy releasing it. As I said above, if you, or anyone, are that concerned, install the beta server, standalone if necessary, and see if you can find any issues, rather than waiting for the Stable version to be released and then you get problems and have to wait for a fix. I'm sure you wouldn't want a Stable release pushed out and then find things don't work as they should, or did before. Too many times when a stable release of a piece of software is released, problems arise that weren't identified in testing due to insufficient scenarios being available.

  6. On the Dashboard when you see the below it would be nice to show the % the same as it does in scheduled tasks so you do not have to click through different sections to see how long left for it to run

  7. Couldn't hurt to report back here at least once. Could always use more people to try upgrading in a real-world situation before it goes final.

  8. the plex dashboard indicates direct play: i don't know the processing required to strip metadata on the fly but keep in mind this is a dinky little gen2 firestick 4k max so it is not very powerful. i would assume the stripping is happening server side but what do i know. in testing this again i almost thought i mislead everyone here. i initially played a different combo DV/HDR10+ file in plex and it had the image wrapping issue. i went back to the DV8 / HDR10+ sample posted in this thread and that plays fine. i compared the two files in media info. sample that plays on the left, sample that wraps on the right: the two appear to be using the same HDR profile however one of them has not populated the title field. I'm guessing this is the field plex is keying off of to decide whether to strip. when i view the media info in plex for both files, only the sample that plays correctly shows any mention of HDR10+: all this explains why that plex thread i linked is still running with new complaints saying it's still broken. what a mess!

  9. I'm not at all whining about the availability of 4.8 - i think the length of the beta cycle is ridiculous (particularly given there was acknowledgement of this by the devs after the completion of 4.7 and commitment to shortening them) but I'm happy with stable at the moment. the one point i have to pick up on though is i don't think its reasonable to expect your average user to run the beta branch. there are so many changes made that completely break some key functionality (case in point, live tv in the last couple of beta's) and seemingly little urgency to fix them. in the past releases to fix these sort of issues would come the same day as the problem is found but not anymore. it would be good to get more people using beta and finding these issued before they get to stable but this is a two way street.

  10. Again peeps are not whining and you know it. It's just add x amount of features and release the new version, then start working towards 4.9. Stop adding features that no one asked for at the last minute that now need to be tested to see if they break anything before actually doing the official release.

  12. Is this doable by some sort of plugin ? Maybe add your imdb credentials and then be able to rate movies here and have them on imdb as well (not talking about sorting here, just rating stuff)

  13. Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless

This is how emby treats HDhomeruns today, so it can't be to difficult. @@snodrog742 @@manolodf @@robrhedrick @@cayars

  17. Just side loaded 1.7.1 - yes the menu still comes up after watching approximately 30-45 min tv episode. Also, new issue with 1.7.1, I cannot go into display under settings to change to blue radiance theme —- always seems to reset theme every time I “upgrade” version. Awesome

  19. That is not true in my experience on 4 Nvidia Shields. I have NextGen running to sync my/mywife's media to kodi, and embycon running to be logged into my kids' emby account on the same kodi profile. I have had this setup running for years without issue (and am currently runnning Omega Beta 2).

  20. Kind of what CBers has been saying. We could use more people to pitch in and load beta now that it's close. Once it's stable you can always jump off the ship.

  22. Having this information on the "More like this" screen would allow me to do one of two thing : 1. Go to the show or movie already in my library to play it, since it is already there. or 2. Schedule a recording since I want to eventually want to watch it. This would be the easy way to operationalize the following feature request DVR, check if movie already in library before recording Thank you

  23. Try putting a series that has issues on to your movie drive and make a new test TV library with that series and see whether it plays correctly

  25. On the home screen when you click on now the only thing missing is the channel name which would be useful. The screen that I was talking about is if you go to guide - > Programmes and click on any show it looks like this it has very little information it's only when you scroll down you can see other showings which tells you the date/time and date.

  28. @Q-Droid& @Lukeand everyone else who helped me out with this. I want you guys to know that it looks like everything is working again! I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help me. To summarize: I had a completely working Emby Server running on a Debian virtual machine on a Proxmox server. After updating Synology DSM from 6.x to 7.x I noticed that I could no longer view any videos or listen to any music via Emby in a browser or on the Emby app on our AppleTV. The Synology NAS is where all our media files are stored and were attached to the Emby Server via NFS shares. There were two significant steps that helped me for my situation: 1. Fixing the permissions on /var/lib/emby/data/library.db and /var/lib/emby/data/library.db.backup with these commands: chown emby:emby /var/lib/emby/data/library.db chown emby:emby /var/lib/emby/data/library.db.backup After running these commands I was able to access some of our shares. 2. Fixing the Squash settings on the Synology NAS. The original Squash settings on the Synology NFS shares was set to "Map root to admin" and changing this setting to "Map all users to admin" fixed the shares. After doing these two things I was able to watch videos and listen to music again in the Emby AppleTV app and in all the browsers. Obviously the permissions for the library.db and library.db.backup files could not have been changed from a Synology DSM update so I probably messed them up with my attempts to fix the original access issues. Perhaps all I would have needed to do was change the Squash settings on the Synology but I'll never know now. I have a couple questions remaining, one may be off topic and one could be related: 1. Music Playlists. Before this all started, I had created some extensive music playlists. The library shows the playlists are located at /var/lib/emby/data/playlists so are stored locally on the Emby Server. Now all the playlists are empty. Here is an example of one of my playlist.xml files: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?> <Item> <Added>3/5/2023 11:47:11 AM</Added> <LockData>false</LockData> <LocalTitle>Pop</LocalTitle> <SortTitle>Pop</SortTitle> <RunningTime>0</RunningTime> </Item> I would have expected to see some of the songs listed in here. Isn't that a correct assumption? Why would this playlist.xml be empty now? 2. Media Images. In the library settings there is a checkbox "Save artwork into media folders". OK, that makes sense. But if this is NOT selected where are the images saved? The reason I ask is because all the images I previously had are now gone. I was able to "Refresh meta data" and that seemed to get most back, but some were manually set and are now gone. Again, thank you to everyone here for their help.

  30. I had the same issue using emby-for-kodi-next-gen with Kodi 20 in HD Station on QNAP NAS. This isn't a plugin issue, its a Python issue. I tried updating Python for HD Station portion of QNAP, but it doesn't seem to work because supposedly Kodi will get the path for Python during install time, so likely set in stone when they rolled the .qpkg for install. Long story short, you can go into Addons in Kodi and look at dependencies for emby-for-kodi-next-gen. At the bottom of the list you'll find urllib3, set it to not auto-update. Grab an older version of the urllib3 from the link below and install it from zip file through the Kodi Addons menu. After a restart of Kodi, you should be back in business. https://mirrors.kodi.tv/addons/nexus/script.module.urllib3/script.module.urllib3-1.26.16+matrix.1.zip

  32. There's really nothing to it. Just load the latest beta on top of your current install. Once 4.8 goes stable install that release and stay. You don't have to stay on beta forever. We are so close every new build is fairly small now and your server isn't going to go boom. If you really have to have it now, then you only have yourself to blame.

  33. But its fixes for new stuff they added in the previous version lol, even though they said in December 4.8 was ready to go live but they didnt want to do it because of vacation/holiday but now they are adding and breaking new features instead of pushing out the 4.8 and adding these niche changes to 4.9.

  34. Thanks. I had scrolled through that thread but didn't dive into the links. The Jellyfin issue on GitHub there are examples of folks calling what I am seeing "wrapping", saying either either wraps or is blank so this seems to be the same issue. I found the answer on how Plex fixed this. Basically they strip out the meta data for the HDR profile your TV does not support. https://forums.plex.tv/t/files-with-both-hdr10-dovi-profile-8-1-metadata-show-blank-black-screen/831617/126 It seems that would be a viable solution for Emby server as well because it seems pretty clear Amazon isn't going to fix it.

  36. Either way, there's now A fast software encoder (SVT-AV1) Hardware encoding on Intel (QuickSync AV1) Hardware encoding on Nvidia (NVENC AV1) Would be great to be able to utilize those in Emby.

  37. Hi, sorry for the very late response. I've been away for a while. I was troubleshooting on my own time and also setting up a proper rproxy instead and wanted to figure out the issue afterwards. I noticed this issue was present on my phone as well, and as it turns out, it was related to Cloudflare's caching policy which was causing issues with seeking (which based on logs from both emby and the rproxy are all requests of their own). After disabling query caching, the issue has resolved itself. Loading times are still a bit of a hit and miss but that's not relevant to the original issue of this thread. Thank you for trying to troubleshoot the issue. I think it's good for now, will post again if needed.

  40. I don't chime much if ever, but I had to say something about this. I don't see people here being toxic, self-entited or whining. They are genuinely curious as to what's going on with this release. The fact of the matter is that a concerning amount of time has gone by since the last major release (May 2022). I'm a dev myself so I understand development takes time and that we all want a polished release with as few bugs as possible. But it's become generally accepted in the software industry that smaller, more frequent releases is the better model. Sometimes that's not possible, and products need a complete overhaul and that takes time, but I don't think that's the case here? at least I haven't seen anything to indicate so, so I think I and others are just wondering why we've gone from fairly frequent releases to massive once a year or two releases?

  43. Hello as title says i stopped using kodi as it crashs more than it plays something - started to love emby again but i realllllly miss one feature sorting my movies by genre & genre Here in emby when i add 2 genres in Filter than it shows me for example all action movies + all thriller movies but with an "AND" modifier i could see only movies that have both genres at the same time for example what i used before: Action - Thriller SciFi - Horror SciFi - Adventure War - Romance Romance - Drama ... etc. - the possibilities are endless please consider this for a future change

  44. If you find the correct user in Emby-Server\config\users, you can amend the policy.xml file. Look for: <IsAdministrator>false</IsAdministrator>Change it to true. You'll need to restart Emby server for it to take affect.

  45. Hello. Thank you for the explanation. I understand well how permissions work in a Linux system. However, what are the recommended permissions, owner and group for the libraries files in order emby to work well with them?
