I will put this on the list of to-do items. However, the user I would need to test this is out of town, and I'll have to coordinate with them to recreate this on my server. These types of issues that I can't re-create locally are the most frustrating because I'm usually dealing with someone who lacks understanding of what I need them to do and finding a time we both have free to perform the task. So fingers crossed on this one. Thank you BTW the support for Emby over the years has been fantastic and I really appreciate what you all do over there. The community is great also. Usually, projects like these lose steam over the years and they die on the vine. Emby has only improved both visually and on the backend over the years. Have a great day! J2 points

Boy do I ever wish my lifetime sub was for a halfway decent streaming service. "sigh" It would have saved me a good bit of cash.2 points

I think so many people get confused with the subscription plans and think it a really cheep streaming service..2 points

After the long summer-break today I finally fired up my emby again to have a nice movie night and I was very irritated by the quality of the trailers. They all looked like something from the beginning of the internet - even trailers for upcoming big budget movies. I'd argue what I got served isn't even 360p (or if so than with an extremely high compression). Did something change over the summer or is this some kind of bug or wrong option on my side? I don't expect 4k quality, but it would be nice to at least be able to recognize some faces. Quite frankly: With a quality like this I might as well watch no trailers. Is there anything that I can do to fix this?1 point

I am looking to see if a SAML2/OAuth plugin is something others would use. I myself would love this feature to share Emby publicly with family members and friend and worry a little less about insecure passwords that some may use. I personally am a big advocate for security as I work in IT and see how a lack of good security can cause havoc. I love Okta and what it offers. Anyone can sign up and use it for free under 1000 users if you sign up as a Developer. That is just plain awesome. Let's see who else is interested. I am excited to find out! Thanks1 point

Hi, Emby's subtitle feature has come a long way since I started using MB3 and I think the next step is now possible. The OpenAI group has released 'Whisper' a python (there is also a cpp implementation available) module that can be run locally to generate subtitles in 99 different languages (although english is the most efficient from a resource perspective currently) for any file containing audio. This is a OSS model that can be implemented (maybe as a plug in) across many OSes and would allow the generation of subtitles for things that currently lack them. Without hardware support it can't run in real time but as a scheduled task could be run during slow periods for a server. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2022/09/new-ai-model-from-openai-automatically-recognizes-speech-and-translates-to-english/ for a overview https://github.com/openai/whisper for the Github of the project.1 point

List of things that were currently not working on Android TV APP. Linux server latest Version 4.8.0.60 beta and also 5-6 versions previously BETA versions tried including stable non beta. 1.Manual download of subtitles from the Emby for Android TV app doesn't working, neither Amazon Fire TV 4k, neither Sony Android TV(Sony XR55X93JAEP), SONY kd-49xe8077 android TV or some Eon box Android TV, currently I cant check on Nvidia shield its in my office. "error requesting download of subtitle" will be the exact error. Its tried on couple of previous versions also its tried on EMBY for Android. 2. Resume, playlists, favorites, played/unplayed , doesn't work on Sony XR55X93JAEP Sony Android TV neither on SONY kd-49xe8077 android TV, neither on Eon box Android TV STB, but its working on Amazon Fire tv 4k and Nvidia shield which are both android. Its tried on couple of previous versions also its tried on EMBY for Android 3. Previously selected subtitle will not be remembered, and sorting settings will be back to default settings after every new restart on Sony XR55X93JAEP Sony Android TV same on SONY kd-49xe8077 android TV, and same Eon box Android TV STB, in Emby for Android TV and its working on Amazon Fire tv 4k and Nvidia shield. Its tried on couple of previous versions of Emby for Android TV also its tried on EMBY for Android Please could you fix this issues?1 point

HI, yes i think this would be a good thing to support in future updates. Thanks.1 point

Hi when the movie starts, the OSD controls do not work anymore. It is always the same place in the movie. Once it starts, I am like waiting for it to crash And I cannot go back to where it crashes, the movie will start from the beginning. @FrostByteit's not possible to choose another audio track because HD MA is the only audio track available with the movie unfortunately... ;-(1 point

I was searching for the same question and came across your post. Never found an answer so with my basic html/css skills, I took the time to figure it out. Is this the correct/preferred way of doing it? Not sure, but it works for me! I wanted "Active Recordings" to be next to (or directly under "Now Playing" depending on zoom level) with "Activity" at the bottom of the screen. Here's how I did it: Emby server on Linux (Ubuntu 20.04, Emby version 4.8.0.59 beta) Used Firefox Web Dev Tools to check html/css files. Dashboard sections & their order are defined in the dashboard.html file in /opt/emby-server/system/dashboard-ui/dashboard. Shut down Emby and browsed to the folder (as Su). Made 2 copies of dashboard.html (named one dashboard.html.test and the other dashboard.html.4.8.0.59). Modified dashboard.html.test by moving the "Active Recording' class above the "Activity" class. Deleted original dashboard.html and renamed the test copy to dashboard.html. Restarted Emby and Dashboard sections are in the order I want! This image is at 30% on 1920 x 1080 display so I could get the entire screenshot.1 point

Just to add to the device list because its not android tv Samsung Smart TV (QE65Q70AATXXH) Emby for Samsung 1.6.4 everything from above list is working.1 point

My feeling is that the ONLY reason to buy a smart TV is because they tend to be a LOT less expensive than their dumb counterparts. I just had to replace my old TCL TV and, after a LOT of research, the least expensive decent replacement was a Fire TV based TCL TV. I do NOT use, in fact I have never set up, the internal "smart" part of the new TV. I do not see any real advantage to internal smarts and there is the disadvantage of if the smart part of the TV breaks you lose the use of your TV to get it fixed. I just find the best TV I can and then, only making sure there are enough inputs, just ignore the smart part. Actually, after rereading what I wrote I realized that what I said was not completely accurate: I did set up part of the "smart" part of my new TV. I had to because it kept nagging me every time I turned the TV on or often when I switched inputs. Once I did enough to make the nag screens stop I did nothing more. I am very happy with the new TV and the price was quite low as well. I guess as long as companies want to sell "smart" TVs for a lot less than dumb ones I will buy the "smart" and let the foolish companies subsidize a bit of my purchases.1 point

Actually, I think this page (which I've never looked at before) is a major cause of the folks coming here expecting a streaming service. Although it says "personal", there is nothing spelt out to indicate that you need to set up a server (or negotiate with a friend running one) to make a Connect connection to. It's easy to see how people would think they are getting something from Emby here. Paul1 point
-
Perhaps but then there is also the device limit issue. Plus, I imagine a large percentage of the folks for whom their server doesn't have an internet connection, their cell phone also doesn't. Oh, and we'd like to hire this guy .1 point

I'm still investigating on my hang on stop till curl timeout on my shieldTVpro by now I can tell that every 8.x version till 8.1.3 seems to work. Now I jumped from 8.1.3 to 8.1.5 and had my first hang on stop. I'll revert back to 8.1.3 and if is still ok, will try 8.1.4 to see when the bug was introduced... I'm also giving up in using mostly emby app since video quality is identical to kodi and less issues, less configuration and give me access to recording timers. Still I think Kodi has a better interface, better way of seeking and is faster in browsing. So making the embyforkodi plugin issue free would be great! Its very strange that this bug is only with me. Maybe something between nas, router and kodi... But the embyforkodi addon as also a role since older versions did not have thet problem...1 point

I have a Nvidia Tube and Google TV dongles. I have anything setup on them, and if I change TVs, go on holiday etc etc, I just take one of those devices. I find 'smart' TVs not really smart enough, and Samsung TVs particularly annoy me, though they are fine once I bypass all their 'smart' stuff by using one of my streaming devices.1 point

Cheers Luke, and props to the team on a great product! I have scratched and rebuilt the container several times, plus restarted the host a couple of times to verify it comes up without errors, very pleased!1 point

Given YouTubes current fight against ad-blockers/third-party clients I'm surprised trailers still work at all. YouTube doesn't want you viewing their content with anything but their own clients/software. There's not many reliable sources of trailers really, that's not Embys fault. They're likely open to suggestions though, as long as those suggestions are legal/not violating other platforms ToS.1 point

Ahhh I'm not an Apple user (it's my partner's device) and I'm not familiar with the security settings. Thanks for your help! For others, on your iOS Device, it's in Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Local Networks, then toggle on Emby.1 point

For the last decade or so, I have used Plex as my primary media content provider. However, circumstances have caused me to rethink that decision, and I have started to lean into Emby as a total replacement to complete a lift and shift. One of the reasons behind that decision was the existence of the LDAP plugin in the environment to allow control from a centralized source. -- Thank you, @Luke I think there is a way to take on this kind of effort in a phased approach. I do not care if SAML is integrated into the numerous applications and environments that would need to be updated to make this function properly. All I would require to call it a reasonable success is the ability to incorporate Emby Connect into a SAML environment. LDAP is, in my opinion, essentially useless without being able to incorporate it into the pin authentication method. It's a tough sell to tell folks that you'll need to log in with that username and password (that happens to be 12 digits or more) on every TV system around the house. But my local LDAP can pipe into Azure AD (Or Entra nowadays) and then be SAML connected to Emby Connect. I now have a way to control access accounts that is friendly to end users and meets the need from a system administrator perspective. I know your average system user has this system, and this alone and self-contained passwords work fine. But this is a niche that no one provides for today and has what I believe is some value proposition behind it that a subset of your target audience would genuinely appreciate.1 point

@DJX Hi, generally speaking you can only play/shuffle one media type at a time. This is something we plan to improve in future updates though. Thanks.1 point

My Emby software is up and running, and I can select and listen to my music with no endless buffering and no crashes. My long nightmare with Plex is finally over.1 point

I don't know that I did anything different, but it looks like it worked this time. Now I'll have to see if my server and client can talk to each other. Thank you very much for your time and attention. It's really appreciated.1 point

Hi there, you can already add audiobooks to collections. Hi, this is why shuffle is not on the main audiobook screen, but it's still in the 3-dot menu for those that need it. Surely you can just ignore from there, right?1 point
-
Hi, we already do this. Hi there, have you explored your emby user home screen settings? You can set the landing tab for your audio books library however you wish, so if you want to start on the Books tab, you can already do that.1 point

I can see and verify this is happeneing. it is adding a 00 null to the end of the xml files, it does not appread to be effecting the Kodi xml parser so not sure if they will consider this a bug or not.1 point

Hi, you might be able to get away with it in certain scenarios but I wouldn't say that we recommend it.1 point

We might be able to do some new development on the internal player to better support zidoo, so we are looking into that.1 point

Hi, mostly, yes, and also gpu setup. Hi, this is the route I would suggest as well.1 point

Then this is what you need to investigate. Has your external IP changed? - Check in the router, or on the Emby dashboard. Has your ISP enabled cgNAT (which will block external access? - Check by doing the tests at the end of this article. If you have cgNAT, the options are to set up a tunnel using Tailscale, Zerotier, a VPN, or whatever - or to persuade your ISP to let you have a real IP address again. Paul1 point

I don't mean to be a pest, but I still would love to see this feature added.1 point

Sometime in the last 12 months Emby for Android client changed to automatically wake a sleeping server on the LAN without user intervention. This action is quick and elegant. It would be nice if Emby could do the same for a remote server. For years I have been able to wake my server from my phone, over the net, using a standard WOL app and a port redirection in my router. In the app I have broadcast turned off. To access Emby remotely the Emby server has a static IP address on the LAN. In the router there is a port redirection to access server port 8192. I dont remember whether I made the router entry, or whether the Emby installer did. I understand that most routers do not support broadcast, but broadcast is not required. All that is needed is another port redirection that maps to server port 9, and for Emby to send a magic packet to this port.1 point

I's like to see a separation between movie playlists and music playlists. I've started using Emby instead of Spotify, and it works quite well overall, but the playlist screen gets mixed playlist types.1 point

We can certainly look at improving this. I don't know if I like running them all the across like that but we can look at ways to reduce the click count. Thanks.1 point

or indeed fixing the alpha picker in music (and all all libraries) to allow all letters to be shown when you have movies/shows/artists/albums that start with irregular characters.1 point

It's OK, we would have to change the way we broadcast the wake on lan packets in order to support this. Thanks.1 point

So is this no longer available? I was going to jump on the cyber week special for the 25 devices but if there is no upgrade pathway in the future than I'll probably pass.0 points
