  1. Since this now includes more comedy than real information. (Not a bad thing from time to time, I think) I now feel a bit free to include a joke. Many years ago I was visiting Chicago and a local Priest told me he heard about a man the had been a "Boiler stoker" his entire life and absolutely loved his job, the heat and the hard work and all else about the job was a high level perk for him. One day he died and since he was not a good man at all he was sent to hell. He was "assigned" to stoke the fires of Hell and he actually enjoyed it. One day Satan noticed that guy just whistling and generally enjoying himself through all the hellfire. Satan said that he could NOT allow that in Hell so he ordered the fires of Hell extinguished. A few days later Satan was again strolling through Hell when he noticed the ex-stoker just standing around and slivering and generally looking miserable. So Satan says, "Well, how do you like it now!" The man replied through chattering teeth, "Well I don't like it much: but, does this mean the Cubs finally won the World Series?" If any mod feels this goes too far then delete it but I felt this thread should continue into at least mildly comedic territory. Someday, given all the popular acclaim, I will post my favorite all time blond joke that was first told to me by a little thirteen year old blond girl that played for me on a soccer team.

  2. Personally, I would love to have the ability to create custom rows on the frontpage without having to write a plugin to create a "channel". I was pretty excited when I read about this "collections on frontpage" thing in the patchnotes, but I quickly realized that it's pretty much useless in its current form. It just saves you one click on the collections library. And only if You search for a collection starting with A or B. Otherwise you have to click 10 times on the right button^^ It would be much better, if we could put the contents of a single collection into a row on the frontpage, similar to how Plex let you do this. This way you could personalize your home screen and make it much more dynamic and interesting. This in combination with automatically maintained collections and the ability to change the collection rows on the frontpage via the API, so that You could change them programmatically via scripts, for example to put your own season collections automatically on the top of everything at the right time. Or to just change them around randomly or via a timed schedule. Endless possibilities.

  3. Take a look at the chart in your user's manual which looks like this: 2019 TV Video Specifications | Samsung Developers Those are all the codecs your TV supports when running apps internally. Your TV supports Atmos from DD+ because that's what you get from streaming apps like Netflix, etc. The soundbars supports TrueHD Atmos so you can hook up to a device like a UHD player to the soundbar which will pass the video to the TV. In order for your TV to passthrough TrueHD and DTS to the soundbar it still needs a decoder which costs money. Samsung doesn't usually add those because streaming services don't use them and it costs money. The same reason Samsung TVs don't have DV (they don't want to pay). If you look at the notes it says you will need to select another audio type if your file contains DTS. I believe this also holds true for TrueHD still today. There is one easy way to test this out though. Turn off audio decoding on Emby server. If TrueHD doesn't play then it needs to be transcoded to something in the chart because your TV doesn't support it when running apps internally. This is why a lot of people buy something like a Shield and plug it into the HDMI in on the soundbar in order to get HD audio. Your Sony and Phillips TVs probably support DTS and/or TrueHD.

  4. Being brutally honest, with the audio equipment you are using, you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference between EAC3 Atmos and True-HD Atmos. The issue comes in the fact that UHD disk format (ie a Remux) rarely uses EAC3 (Dolby Digital Plus) - they use True-HD with Atmos or DTS-HD / DTS-X because bitrate/bandwidth is not an issue on a physical UHD disk - so if your plan is to playback UHD remux's - then THIS is the real reason you need it to natively play back HD Audio. Emby is perfectly capable of converting on-the fly to get 'sound' - but it will only be AC3 5.1 and it will not have Atmos information in it. If however you just plan on using 'Streaming' (MUCH lower bitrate video and audio) versions - then these already use EAC3 - and thus, there is no need to worry about the HD Audio requirements. You can 'convert' from HD Audio to EAC3 7.1 - but I don't believe there is a way to convert the object based audio with free tools - yet...

  6. I just received an email from Open subtitles. Wondering what this means for Emby? I''m not a VIP member so apparently the API will stop working for me on Jan 1, didn't know if anyone else knew about this or has planned for it in regards to emby integration. Thanks

  7. It's an issue with the moviedb api, or at the very least, a difference in behavior compared to their other api's. I just need to put enough info together to file an issue with them.

  8. Thanks for all the tips - I've got it working now - basically RTFM For some reason I hadn't seen all the options in the app, now I've found the DTS specific ones, and disabled DTS-HD passthrough, its working fine. Emby still reports direct-play of the DTS-HD MA, but the audio signal arriving at the AVR is now PCM which the AVR is able to decode and play. Thanks again for all your help

  9. @Riddler84I like the one idea for helping peeps that heed help finding their latest shows. I have a roommate that I always have to point him at what library something is in. With something like you suggested I can simply make the main row under his libraries his latest shows / movies.

  10. Actually, since this movie is animated maybe I won't see any artifacts. So far it's been good almost 10 minutes into though. I know SamES is also on the 4.8 beta I suppose he would know if it fixes the issue.

  11. All my TrueHD Atmos movies have an alternate EAC 7.1 so I've not really tested it before on 4.8 beta. I just started playing Spider-man Across the Spider Verse now and can say that it still coverts to 384kbps AC3 though. I do believe there is a FR asking that this be a user configurable setting though.

  12. Yes you are right! The transcoded one is of lower quality ;-( Will version 4.8 bump up the quality? I really hope so! The main reason I switched to Emby is it transcodes HD audio to AC3 instead of AAC in Plex. That was really disgusting!

  13. Ah @SamESthank you so much for this elaborate explanation. Now I understand this is a shortcoming of Samsung TV. Thank you !!

  14. Oops, beat me. The original AC3 ahould be a lot better. Not only does the server not have to convert it, but the original is probably 640kbps where the transcoded one will be 384kbps.

  15. See my last post, it's converting the TrueHD/DTS audio that causes the video artifacts. Yes, it is a work-around, but if the server is converting the lossless audio to AC3, then using the 'mastered' AC3 track already in the file should be a better solution if it means the whole file can direct play. We can't fix the TV, it plays how it plays, but as mentioned I think this might be fixed in the 4.8 official release when it comes.

  16. On a fresh install of any recent beta I also the following issues - 'Collections' no longer displays as an independent library, accessible now only via Sidebar menu, or Movies sub-menu. This is true for "PlayLists` as well, they no longer displays as an independent library.

  17. thanks for the response @TeamBIt sounds like the idea is dead in the water then. I thought about piggy-backing off a general serverside feature that already flows into the clientside UI, which seems like the tag system as you described it, but i think the data model would end up being too much to manage if i add the recommendations as tags to each individual show, because some shows could be tagged in dozens of other shows recommendations and it'd get hairy fast.

  18. While you're at it, check the chart on subtitles in your manual. Notice PGS isn't listed either, but a lot of Android devices support PGS. When running apps from Tizen they will also need to be converted on the fly. If you can, it's always best to preselect something which is compatible. Otherwise, your server will need to convert it on the fly and sometimes that can cause lag.

  19. You mentioned having TrueHD content. Your test file was Dolby Digital Plus content. These are two entirely different formats, even though they both support an Atmos layer. You will need additional hardware to support your TrueHD content.

  20. Hi. That is a new feature in the upcoming 4.8 server and has not been implemented in the TV app at this time.

  21. Hey, thanks for answering @SamES. For some movies I have only DTS or TrueHD available format.. so for certain cases is not an option to switch to the different format. However once the 4.8 server version will be released it will be solved once and for all? Other thing to confirm is that I am using an external Samsung soundbar for the audio (Samsung HW-Q800C) connected via HDMI ARC, which supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus. So if the TV supports Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus and my soundbar has support for the TrueHD then the audio should be passthrought to the soundbar? I am confused here so if somebody can elaborate if soundbar which has the support for TrueHD/DTS will takeover for the audio for the TV which might be missing this TrueHD/DTS compatibility. As @tattlermentioned this was not happening for the Philips TV and Sony TV which is using Android system. Why then on Tizen? Much appreciated, thanks!

  22. Hi @SamESthanks for answering but how would you explain why the sound remuxing of TrueHD in Chrome browser does not introduce any artifact but only in the Tizen app?

  23. Still a must fix, or make ALL libraries listed on the left dropdown menus and put the libraries in the main view at the bottom.

  24. @seanbuffcan confirm my last attempt at DB rebuild didn't work. I can confirm that the instances for both servers is current 4.7.14.0 I even deleted the legacy Collection folder from the old Boxset plugin just incase.

  26. Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!

  27. Thank you for the summary! In my case, Collections still displays as one of the libraries under "My Media" on the top of the home page. Basically, on the surface, everything is the same except the montage image.

  28. the simple answer is no, you can not, emby server plugins can not ADD to the general client interface. However, you might be able to use an existing mechanisum like tags to get you closer to you you want though. Tags are an example of ways you create shared targeted groups, your similar system could find a bunch of similar movies and add tags to them all, the tags would show up and as long as you named them well you might be able to put together a good system. This is just a suggestion and I have no idea if it would work just playing with ideas.

  32. No. There is no need, they have their own plugin that works with emby. And besides the people images that come from them are often landscape.

  34. @LukeYes, the browsers may learn - but that's really inconvenient, and it's preferable to make the setting explicitly. You may want to put these settings in the wiki. Firefox: When the site has opened in secure mode, you can click the closed padlock and get an option to allow insecure, but only temporarily: However, it's preferable to do it permanently; for this you can go into settings, find "HTTPS-Only Mode", and tell Firefox to turn off secure mode permanently for any specified site by clicking the Manage Exceptions button: Note that when I tried it, saying "Don't enable HTTPS-Only Mode" in the first screen wasn't enough - in fact that was the setting I already had; going through to the exceptions was required to have the desired effect. Chrome: When the site has opened in secure mode, you can click the closed padlock and go to the site-specific settings, where you can allow insecure pages; this is not only the main page, but also allows insecure links from secure pages: Although my screenshot doesn't show it, this is, as I said above, a site-specific setting. If you go to the main settings page, you can find your way to the same option, but in that case browser-wide, which it would be better not to enable this for. Paul

  35. Once all the clients have been updated to a) Save the password and b) Allow/enforce PIN if required - then for it's intended family/friends usage, this FR is complete. User groups etc are clearly not required for typical family use ...

  38. The log file shows this: 2023-10-30 12:29:30.265 Info Server: http/1.1 GET http://‌x.x.x.x:8096/emby/Audio/13077/universal?UserId=65bfe937333b407ba39658c8518f28a8&DeviceId=47f437986a5d865b&MaxStreamingBitrate=6583500&TranscodingContainer=ts&TranscodingProtocol=hls&AudioCodec=aac&api_key=‌e3d05ca4af904b3a9441631d04ef54ef‌&PlaySessionId=1698686887873&StartTimeTicks=0&EnableRedirection=true&EnableRemoteMedia=false. UserAgent: Emby/3.3.40 (Linux;Android 12) ExoPlayerLib/2.18.7 This looks like it's trying to use standard streaming for playback from web vs trying to play the file progressively.
