Hello, Is it possible that in a version of emby a "ping pong" is performed in websocket to maintain a connection via a reverse proxy? Let me explain. Apart from reverse proxies such as caddy or traefik (for those I know) there is no real timeout for websockets. For reverse proxies like haproxy or nginx, the timeout is defined either by default or by the user. In the case of haproxy or nginx, if someone pauses a video that lasts more than an hour (a movie, for example), the websocket timeout will occur before the end of the movie. Or if, when playing an episode of a series lasting 40 minutes, the viewer pauses the video for 20 minutes, the connection will be closed before the end of the episode. Having the client send a message and the server reply every X seconds/minutes would eliminate the problem and prevent the connection from staying open for 1 hour for no reason, as in the nginx configuration. Also, I saw a message saying that if a connection was closed unexpectedly, for resource reasons, there was no attempt to reconnect. Why not set up a number of reconnection attempts? For example, the client tries to reconnect 3 times, and if none of the attempts work, the connection is aborted. This would, I think, allow better websockets management and avoid connections being open for hours. Or even when changing networks (LTE->wifi or wifi->LTE), this would make it easier to re-establish the connection than quitting the application and reopening it. To avoid sending just a "ping" and a "pong", useful information can be sent through websockets when the client supports them, such as the position of the video playback (which is currently sent via http), because a request via websocket is faster than an http request and sends, with the same information in the body, less data than an http request.3 points

@Lee @seanbuff @arrbee99 An option is being added to control the display of posters on detail screens. This will allow you to add the poster in TV layouts, which up until now has not been configurable. This will also allow you to take it out from non-TV layouts if you wish, like for example the web app on a desktop.3 points

In that case no, only that server admin can see whoever logged-in from your user account and from which devices but that's the extent of it, even they cannot know who it was, only you can know who you've actually shared your account credentials with - and there's is no way to prevent them using your account save password change or creating new user on shared server.2 points

I tried doing a hard reboot on the Apple TV according to this article and that seems to have resolved the issue: https://support.apple.com/en-is/guide/tv/atvbb8553426/tvos2 points

Emby is not a streaming platform (like Netflix, Apple+ and somewhat Plex), Emby provides no content. It is a server-client platform where, at minimum, you need to have: a) Your own media, or b) LiveTV tuner properly configured on your server, or c) Someone has shared their server with you Do you have any of those? If not, there's no cost involved and nothing to pay, as you won't be able to use it.2 points

Well my friend, I drink 2 cups of coffee while I try to reply with correct words, but could not, went admin's some old friends sites, then back with another cup of coffee and still, so I will pass on this. All I can say, let Emby be only Emby, we have many royal great members were been suggestion a good feedback over the years, btw, this words not towards anyone here, just general "feedback".2 points

When a title appears in the topic of a thread like this it isn't a cause for concern really. Plex is ugly. Their spacing is odd. The huge gaps of empty space are concerning. They also make you click that ... button entirely too much on Plex. The suggestions in this thread hold no more weight than any others. To focus on this thread because of the title is sort of ridiculous. It is okay they are different. It isn't a cookie cutter world. We all have what we like and do not like. You should not think your opinion will be a good idea for everyone else. That your tastes are most important. These things need to be feature requests not inside an "X vs Y" thread because you lose the point. Emby isn't Plex. It shouldn't try to hard to match what they do. Emby should just copy what is the best from every UI and move in that direction. Not in the direction of directly copying someone else. Leave that to JellyFin to copy everything. The big difference with Emby is "Your Media, Your Way" and entirely focused in that direction. Plex is "Their media, Our Way" and entirely focused in that direction. The fact Plex hasn't become entirely web based is simply because of time. They will eventually drop that part which caters to home users with a media collection as they cannot advertise on your media and get money.2 points

Hi, is there an option to install Emby beta version on MacOS? The beta version in the Emby website is not updated with the latest 4.8 beta. thanks1 point

Hi, Apologies if previous topic, I have searched in vain! Sometimes for one reason or another an episode of a series existing series fails to download, it appears as "missing" in the series, it would be great if Emby could notify the Admin Account when this happens. Also whilst typing, I thought of another scenario, the next season begins, so again a notification of a missing episode, the 1st in this instance would be fabulous. Does this sound doable? Cheers, Bob1 point

follow-up to this - If the merged content contains a film in 3D, depending on streaming setting, it is being selected as the default item to play. I've tested this in a browser as well as the android app and both will default to the 3D version. Is it possible to have emby know when a device is not capable of streaming 3D correctly and default to the non-3D 1080p version ?1 point

It looks like you were correct! There was an option enabled in radarr for writing nfo files and I think it was enabled by default. Disabled it and last 2 films seemed to be fixed. in regards for Sonarr, nfo was turned off and after closer inspection it looks like tv show cast metadata was actually working all along (I stand corrected) This all started happening several weeks ago when I enabled nfo metadata creation with emby, so it all makes sense. Thanks Luke!1 point

@CarloDo you think it would be worth adding the steps to identify CGNAT and its ramifications in this guide ?1 point

Not as often. But it is almost a guarentee that if I forward a file (so skip on the progress bar to a diff point in movie) it can sometimes stop playing. Especially if I do this right after opening a file. So start playing, skip to 20 minutes almost right after starting. It stops working. Also noticed that if there is a playback error, and I sotp playing and start pkaying again it will usually crash at that point. As if it's using some cache/temporary files from last session instead of purging and starting fresh.1 point

Yes it is important that they're the same: If they're different you can send a PM addressed to me and @ebr that includes both email addresses, and we can correct your registration.1 point

Kind of new here but I wanted to add my experienc, thankfully this thread gave me the clues I needed to get things working. Just got AT&T Fiber, I have the BGW320-500 modem. Am running Emby on an ASUSTOR AS-604T NAS. The network has 2 NIC's configured for Adaptive Load Balancing. I just fiddled around for an hour trying to get port forwarding to work, I finally figured out it was IPv6. I want to keep IPv6 on for my network, was able turn IPv6 off on the NAS to get Emby to work for remote hosts. Not sure what's going on here, open DM's if someone wants to troubleshoot further, happy to help. Can confirm that steps #3 and #4 work. One only needs TCP though.1 point

What a rude ass you are bakes... saying this is dumb as fuck. It isn't. Kodi does this easily and has for years. It's simple... If I watch E02 and E03 is missing.... I go to the series next time I watch and hit play, it plays E04 with no notification that E03 is missing. No it doesn't require emby to be a downloader nor would it require it to notify on a schedule. It is simple... I start watching E04, it checks to see if I watched E03. If I have, do nothing, if I have not, then notify. To your other ignorant comments, Emby already shows placeholders for episodes whether or not they are downloaded.1 point

@ebrplease look at app log for user home @ 6:51pm ET. Live TV froze (3X in 20min) just like recordings do. Where do you want me to upload a video? (Luke would have to ask after I gave up waiting on him to respond and I deleted example vids )1 point

Thanks for following up! I'll keep an eye on this sub-forum then. PS: I really like emby so far. I have replaced Kodi on my Dune with emby (Android TV application). Cool, that it natively supports using the Dune's internal player as an external player, kudos! Kodi needed a 3rd party wrapper for that.1 point

I see =0 Awnyay I would really glad to replace my other Live TV applications and use only Emby =/1 point

OK it is probably creating nfo files so I would check that.1 point

Is your TV activating it's HDR mode (usually you get some indication on screen when doing so). If not, then you are playing HDR material back in SDR, which will look very washed out. As Paul has said above - it's likely the way you have ripped the BR's - or it's possibly some settings on the playback client. Any form of transcode will 'tonemap' the colour back in to make it SDR - that's why it looks 'better' but it's not HDR.1 point

Update: Next 8.3.0 (build 403) version is still under development. Huge changes are necessary due fully support all sorts of Emby Metadata (and its Features). Also I'm on vacation for the next 3 weeks starting by Monday. Please be patient and don't expect the regular response time.1 point

I think there may be some legal implications with Dolby on reverse engineering their DV5 colour space profile - it's fine for JF as they are anonymously open source - but for emby, I'm sure they do not want any questions being asked. The simplest solution is to not use proprietary Dolby Vision (DV5) files - use DV files with HDR10 fallback (ie DV8) - then emby will tonemap those files to SDR without issues, play native HDR10 for those with HDR TV's and play Dolby Vision for those with DV capable TV's - ie the best of all formats.1 point

This request is dumb AF. How often should you be notified, how you being notified? What if the schedule changes? This is exactly what the ARRs are for. What happens when emby uses one lets say tmdb for tracking dates, but the real date on tvdb isnt being reflected in emby cus they use a diff api? Far better things for time to be spent on.1 point

You can buy nVidia Shield as it has its own app. It has much better support of many formats. You probably need to buy the nVidia Shield Pro, not the standard model as there have been reports of performance issues with the basic model https://emby.media/emby-for-nvidiashield.html1 point
