  1. Had to..... Seriously though, it is clear by many (many) users that attention in the form of a released product to improve upon LiveTv is sorely overdue and extremely disappointing knowing that a lot of talented dev effort has happened with nothing to show for it (minus the teasers which I do love BTW, yet they sadden me). Starting this thread 8 months ago was at a point where it seemed ridiculous to not see some of these great improvements come to light even if in a Beta channel. Yet we still have zero idea or hope we will see it in another 8 months. I don't say it to be mean, I say it due to being disappointed. It is the single most wanted feature by many users here, and yet there is no update, no plan, no anything other than Luke asking a stupid question (sorry) when he knows damn well what we're asking for..... (end rant)

  2. That's great and sounds amazing. I think that has been the ask of this entire thread... when can we expect this amazing work that you've done to get integrated in to beta builds or at least some general idea of a timeline?

  3. All of which is great (and it is great), but, as you of course know, not much good if we can't get near it... Yours sincerely, Mr I M A B.Rocken--Record.

  4. To be blunt, that's not the point. We were told back in January that a complete new TV system was ready for wider testing. It is clear from the descriptions that this is not something that can be slipped in piecemeal, so the question is simply when will the new TV system be brought into the public beta stream. Asking about specific features worryingly implies that you might even consider soon-to-be-wasted work on the current TV system (just delaying things further). In any case, from my POV there are multiple "specific features" of the new system which I would like to see. I presume, from the fact that the time from 4.7 stable to 4.8 stable is becoming so long, that you wish to complete that milestone first. But after that, is there actually anything more important than getting this show on the road? Paul

  5. I can't tell because I don't know. All I can say is that it is ready to go into public beta. It doesn't need to be included in "the" Emby betas - initially. There's a separate (Windows-only) installation which can be installed in parallel to normal Emby server installations (stable/beta). It even uses different ports by default (7096). Development had been accompanied by a private group of about 20 selected testers, where we made sure to have a good mix of reception types (ATSC, DVB-C/T/S and IPTV). At the end, only 30% were providing regular feedback so there was roughly a single tester for each reception type. This was all fine to get to a certain point, but for going on, a broader range of testing is required. It was suggested to (kind of) double up the amount of testers, which I had declined as being insufficient. Without a proper coverage in testing, it is pointless to work on, because at some time, you'll have to put it into public beta, and then you'd have to do the same kind of work again, to handle all the cases that you hadn't seen before. That means it makes much more sense to put it out as public (or semi-public, like subscribe-to-be-part-of-it) beta right away. This is what's pending and what hasn't happened yet. For the software side, there exists an installable setup of the Windows server with TVnext (based on 4.8.0.39).

  7. Hi For the moment I want Emby to skip (exclude ?) composer/writer etc tags when scanning music tracks. Maybe something on the library settings screen. A checkbox Include Composers My objective is not to create any new composer credits. Why you may ask? Short answer is major negative impact of including (treating?) them the same as an Artist. Long answer will be in a seperate FR. Thanks, -vicpa

  9. @mixXximYour changes are on my list but they are cosmetic in nature and at the moment difficult for me to do. I know the effort appears simple, but it is not. When I get back to that part of the code I will work on it. I am working now on things I said I would do a long time back and on other threads. This is not a job. I do what I can when I can do it. 10. Ok so my request is to be able to search each library separate as it stands when you search it searches everything, and if like me you have 30k music tracks 10k books/comics 10k episodes and 10k+ movies, searching is slow so is it possible to have a search section for each library individually

  11. Would be great if Emby integrated bookets (PDF files, etc) for Music. For example, CD's usually might contain a booklet with liner notes etc that come with the CD, just like albums might have back the days of vinyl. I have most of these in PDF and the ONLY place I have ever seen it integrated into a music server type platform is Roon Labs. Roon is great, but can be expensive. Here is a link on what Roon does to see what I mean: https://kb.roonlabs.com/Gallery Hope this can be added to Emby!

  12. I like to have complete albums but sometimes I really dislike some of its tracks at the first listen. I'd like for them not to appear in the playlist, wether it's from Play All button on the album page or the whole music library Shuffle button, but be able to play them manually (by clicking on it or adding it the to playlist myself). Just like knowing it's here and that I can give it a new try sometimes What do you think?

  13. I like listening to my music through my roku/emby setup. However, I don't need to know how the artist is while listening. I was wondering if there is some way to set up a virtualization like on windows media player? I can wait and my roku will go to it's screen saver, but I would like to make a choice. Or even display the lyrics on screen, all of my music files have the lyrics embedded.

  14. Oh, there's also some good news, which I almost forgot, but I think I can tell, as it has been eventually greenlighted now: It is a piece which had originally been part of TVnext. It's a plugin that we have separated out, for being able to deliver it earlier and independently. Like I mentioned above, TVnext playback is specialized on live TV signals, which also means that it doesn't support "channels" which actually aren't live tv channels but just pointing to a remote file (like mp4 or mkv). It's sometimes used for VOD content which is provided as pseudo tv channels and where you can easily end up with like 50k of channels which aren't tv channels at all. Providers are doing like this, because most simple clients can't handle anything else but TV channels. But we are Emby. Organization and presentation of media is our mission, and so we should be able to do better in handling such content than presenting it as thousands of tv channels. This is not just an inferior way of presentation - it also messes up the TV feature in many ways: searching for channels and other tv items, managing and maintaining your channels, handling EPG mappings, making recordings, and it also can negatively affect performance. There's a plugin coming up shortly (for the betas) to fill this gap and have such content managed and presented a bit more like an Emby library instead of tv "channels". Official announcement will follow.

  15. nice to hear! Mounting solutions have a huge disadvantages. When samba client loses connection, files disappear for Emby and it treats it as files were removed and removing them from the index. When the shares come back - it reindexing the whole library, what takes ages and stress the metadata sites... So - even if it is "mounted solution", it would be good that Emby could detect it or some setting near folder selection (idk) - that instead of removing the files from the index - mark them as temporary inaccessible and remove only during manual reindexing. It could be disabled offc. by disabling real time monitoring, but it apply to the whole Library. It could be nice to apply it to the folder level ....

  16. Trying to get any kind of eta out of (certain members) of Emby is like trying to get blood out of a stone which you can't even find because it was all mixed up and used to repair the great wall of China.

  18. Thank you for your reply, very much appreciated. I wasn't aware there were two packages. When I browsed the apps on the shield, there's only one. Which I think is the client (after checking your links). I did try the apk as well, but a server apk wasn't known. I'll certainly try this later, and fingers crossed this will be the solution.

  19. I think I've gone back and forth at least 3 or 4 times now. SE8 is definitely faster. I'm having issues maintaining a connection to my NAS right now (drops out every 2 minutes). I guess I'm hoping something will magically fix it, but I'm beginning to think my ethernet port is going bad.

  20. @rbjtech both my shields are signed up for that latest HF but one is now running 8.2.3. Before the hotfix, i found 9.1.1 pretty solid and found no real reason to run 8.2.3 as DFA didn’t work for me. This latest hotfix really borked the FF/RW/resume functions with hevc/dts-hd files rendering them a playback problem. 8.2.3 is solid in this regard and with no way to roll back to 9.1.1, i will run 8.2.3 on one shield and the hotfix on the other to test.

  22. Apparently the standard app is very plagued by this stutter as well. Even plex has it now. Definitely don’t upgrade until this is fixed. Resolves issue with choppy video playback after FFWD/RWD operations. Most certainly broken.

  23. I suspect that most of the issues with live TV are down to the server rather than the clients. It has long (years now) been rumoured that there is a major re-write of the live TV code going on, or even nearly ready. But as it's not reached a public beta, who knows? Sniping at other users (not even developers) won't get you anywhere. If the system as it stands doesn't satisfy you, you're free to use another. If you still want to use Emby, then contribute by supporting or creating feature requests, reporting, with evidence, issues which need fixing, and so on. As regards the thread title, in several years use, I've never had a client crash on any device, but the behaviour of every one has gradually improved. Paul

  24. Would like to see this change too. An option to exclude composers from appearing as artists would be ideal. For me it hinders searching as I have a lot of cover versions containing composer credits.

  28. So to confirm - you want to run Emby SERVER and the Emby CLIENT on the Shield itself correct ? If yes, then the server is here - Emby Server for Android the client is here Emby for Android TV - Emby The reason it just works on a PC (as a Server) is because the browser connects directly, there is no need for any 'Client'. Install the Shield 'Server' first - and then the AndroidTV Client. You can of course connect with any other client at this point as well - but you must have a functional SERVER first. I hope that helps.

  29. Same here... I think it's a great way to control your media, without having to worry about the software "thinking" it must change your data for any "reason" I also started out with XBMC on a Xbox and a NAS. What a journey... I think of Emby as a Library-Server and Kodi as a media-player that integrates very well with Emby using the Emby-plugin in naitve mode. I still believe that streaming in a local network with a capable player should not have to utilise http but rather stream directly from a file-share. The reliability, stability and speed is unmatched. Cheers

  32. Hi, after a whole night and it seems to be fixed now. There's some background information you need to know before I could explain what happended here, you can see my other post here: So in order to solve the problem mentioned in that post, I thought of a walkaround: firstly I created a .ignore file in each of the organizational folders, then I created another folder (hard_links) outside of "TV show" folder, then I wrote a sript to copy all my organizational folder structures into hard_links, and made a hard link to each of the files in here (except for the .ignore file). Basically I wanted emby to scan "TV show" folder with the .ignore files so that it ignores those folders, and then let it scan "hard_links" folder without the .ignore files, then it can successfully scan all the shows correctly in my current folder structure. Yesterday, when you said to test if removing all the nfo files could solve the problem with daredevil show, I forgot that I should have removing the nfo files from "hard_links", instead, I removing the ones in the original folder, and it didn't work (it shouldn't have). Then before I went to bed last night, I mentioned that I changed the folder's name for daredevil but emby didn't recognize the change, I realized I have done all the changes to the wrong folder, then I tried removing all the nfo files in that folder (the first test you wanted me to try) and didn't change the folder's name (I was about to try this today if the first test doesn't work). But now that I saw that the season images are exactly what I have setted as last night. I think this issue have been solved already. It's just strange that this still leaves a question as I mentioned last night: because in my understand, refreshing the metadata should automatically overwrite all the nfo files (again, my season 1 doesn't have any nfo files, only season 2 and 3 have nfo files), but now it seems not be able to overwrite them for this single situation (I just tried it with another show and it indeed overwote the nfo files). And even after I removed all nfo files for daredevil, it didn't create new nfo files...

  33. I believe my assumption, and the assumption of others was that it was a re-write. Luke was asking about a single feature and we aren't waiting for a single feature, we are waiting on the re-write you've spoken of.

  34. Generally a VPN will not allow incoming connections (remote users can't connect to the VPN, unless you/they allow and use port forwarding). That is if you are talking about the vpn's like Nord, PIA, express ..etc. If your running a self hosted VPN then that's a different story.

  35. Luke, I can confirm that with the new installation of the Emby Server (obviously on my desktop) the cast and crew are working now. What I Realized is that the structure of the people on the newly installed Emby is different form the my main server: Fresh install: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\metadata\people a,b,c,d,.... and under each folder the name-tmdb-xxxxx My Old Server: I shut down the server deleted the people folder, Executed SQL suggested by freddyfinn UPDATE MediaItems SET ProviderIds = NULL, PresentationUniqueKey = NULL, Images = NULL, UserDataKeyID = NULL, UserDataKey = NULL And now a lot of cast and crew are finally fixed but still some movies are recognizing the wrong cast: Also how do you run a scheduled task to refresh the people? I can't seem to find to add that task? BTW, the format of the people on the server is just like this: I'm just one step to fix this issue, thanks for the support!!! Please help!

  37. For number 1, enable debug logging then let the plugin run. It will print out all the movies and episodes with their codec and resolution. I don't believe it's built-in to Emby to handle that for plugins. I'll have to do some research. If I have to build the functionality from scratch, it'll be a while if it happens.

  38. What release was being worked on when this was first announced, 4.3 or 4.4? As a user and someone who bought a lifetime subscription for 'LiveTV' it seems like a release cycle focusing on LiveTV is VERY overdue. Then I re-read the release notes for the last few major releases, and I do not see anything that I would consider worth ignoring/delaying the LiveTV improvements. I am sure others will disagree on individual points, but come on, in 3+ years and multiple major release surely some effort could have been put into this. I stopped asking about improvements for LiveTV, since it looked like it was going to get some attention. Silly me. On a side note I want to commend softworks for not getting frustrated and bailing on the whole project. Seen too many cool projects suffer after a great dev gets tired of being ignored and moves on to a project that makes them feel valued.

  39. If you're using it for encoding, the ASICS are what matter, and the ASICS across a generation are typically the same, be it desktop or mobile. I use a laptop for my server, an i3-1115g4 (Tiger Lake), and have no issues with encoding for Emby. The most people I've had online has been 14, with at least 10 of them transcoding stuff, and no one complained. All the shaders and what not have no bearing on encoding. See our discussion here and see the wikipedia article with it's sources here.

  40. Have you tried updating the qsvenc in staxrip? https://github.com/rigaya/QSVEnc is where the newest builds are. I would also check to see what your decoder is. I can't seem to get vapoursynth/avisynth to work with quicksync so I've had to use quicksync hardware. My speeds on my i3-1115g4 are faster than yours, and it should not be that way.

  41. Just saw this. Haven't visited forums in a while. I have been a Kodi user since 2009 when it was still known as XBMC. That's when I built my first NAS and my first media PC. It ran Linux, it had a RC6 remote control and connected to my NAS using NFS. Since then, I've used Raspberry Pi as well as Nvidia Shield Pro and ONN 4k for clients. I still have my NAS, it just has more storage now. I didn't even know about Emby until about 6-8 months ago. Since then I've setup Emby with an Nvidia RTX3050 for hardware transcoding and I have my media collection shared to family members. Kodi is still used in my home to watch things, but when I'm out, I can watch on my phone or a tablet. I had initially tried Plex, but I had problems with it wanting to move or delete media files or rename them. I don't like programs that try to grow a brain and do things for me. I control the media, not the software. That's why my current setup is that my NAS is running on FreeBSD and using RAIDZ2 shared by NFS. My Emby server runs on Linux for better Nvidia driver support and mounts the NAS read-only.

  49. Adding my +1 to this. I never organize my physical media by album, because it makes searching for something impossible and messy (particularly when considering compilation albums). It really doesn't make sense to me to search for an artist by album name. When doing a web search for a song, do you search by artist, or album by default? I can know that The Weeknd has a bunch of songs I really enjoy, but not necessarily the name of each album. Thanks.
