The reason there are so many opinions on this is because there are a lot of ways you can approach these terminologies, a lot of people mush all the different classes into the one thing and it is not really possible to do that and keep a clear picture. What I mean by this is trans-mux vs trans-code these two actions happen to different things, one is applied to a container of streams and the other is applied to the streams, when you start to try to use the terms interchangeably you will end up with confusion. You dont trans-code a container, you trans-mux it. The other issues is the transport, which one of these is DirectPlay vs DirectStream Server(SMB) -> TCP -> Client(SMB) Server(HTTP) -> TCP -> Client(HTTP) Server(NFS) -> TCP -> Client(NFS) You are transferring a file over a network using a protocol, all the same??? The next issue is how Emby works internally. There are a few ways Emby can serve up a stream. - It can respond with a direct PATH, this is usually the path to the library item directly, i.e. if you used real paths to a network storage device and mapped the path in your Emby server this path can potentially be also used by clients, some path substitution can allso be applied to do a replace so clients can access the file located on a network share or file server. - It can respond with a STATIC=True in a HTTP stream url that will tell Emby to Byte for Byte send the file to the client, historically this used to bypass ffmpeg and all processing, it would load the media file directly and send it to the client, a little like you were serving the file from a web server. - It can run the file though ffmpeg and trans-mux the file on the fly - It can run the file though ffmpeg and transmux and if needed trans-code any streams that need it on the fly Given all the above you can see how and why there are so many opinions on how a single word (DirectPlay vs DirectStream vs Trans-code vs Trans-mux) is interpreted.

I'd really like to have 2 Factor Authentication added to the login screen. It's just this (optional) extra layer of security to help secure the server (which, especially if people use camera uploads) contains pretty private data. There are for every type of programming language quite a few libraries available, so implementation on a server shouldn't be too hard to realise

Update - 18 July 2024 OK, so in this update you have the option to Prefer Extended Cast Information So, What does that mean? ADM by default gets the cast as listed from various websites as comma seperated values which it has saved in its database (it doesnt connect to these sites). e.g. for this movie (https://www.jeedoo.com/product/1958794-Big-Booty-White-Girls/) the ADM information server will have added to its database:- the CSV data: Somina, Luisa Rosso, Isobel, Mia Bang, Melanie Crush (Click Details to see this information on the site) ADM will then add the cast Names as Entries, but will NOT assign them with a provider id unless it detects one in the server data directory for that person . To do that you will need this turned on. Without provider ids, the same name will link across all records as tthe same person. A provider id ensures that the person has their own unique record. The feature mentioned here (Prefer Extended Cast Information) will not use the CSV Data, but will check the ADM Server for a data file which contains Actors WITH provider ids, like this: Director: Justin Slayer [IAFDG:2a51536e-201f-4a2d-a6a8-272ba1616184] Cast: Boz [IAFDG:6813ec37-79e0-4c24-a645-912ee51d12af] Cast: H. J. If this information is not avaliabe (yet), it will automatically fall back to the CSV data AND will look up if there are any provider ids avaliable for this person within this movie data. This is a further expansion on the update from the 15th July 2024 Because Adult information is so mixed up across sites and can be severely limited in different areas, ADM utilises several different methods to complete the information as much as possible. Currently because of this ADM is not as fast as Tmdb etc ADMv2(18July2024).zip Update - 15 July 2024 Added more provider id support for actors/directors/writers/producers, ADM will check if there is a known provider id for the actor it is adding at the time of adding the movie, this will help to prevent same actors for different movies that have a the same name, but are a different person. This should now make emby create an entry for each individual, and not just one that fits all. This is a relatively new addition and will have more and more information in time. This is also not supported in earlier versions, unless download actor images was on. The provider ids will fetch now without download images being on, but there are also a few more provider ids supported. ADMv2(15July2024-Update2).zip Update - 12 July 2024 Small update to fix/address a null results error that was occasionally occuring with identify returning 0 results when there are results. This may have also affected normal metadata scrape results. (it should also address a timeout loop that this was causing) Please report if it still occurs. This is because the internal database is now over 15mb and is now taking a toll on my server as it is being downloaded excessively due to the previous methods. The previous versions updated every single time it detected that the online versions filesize was greater than the offline version and that inluded even if there was only 1 movie added to it, There is no longer any need to update it so often. Turning off daily update in the settings page will also increase speeds. There will be no waiting for an update or any clash waiting for the update file to be released by the server if the server is writing to the file. You do not need it on unless the item you are wanting to fetch was added since it was updated in the online database, or since it was last turned on, or you dont have the database on your system. I have also changed the access key - in order to make users come here and see that theres an update. Any issues with a missing database or corrupt database file, then delete the cached db in emby cache folder - cache\ADM\AdultMovieList.txt The obtain a Key link is fixed, but will redirect you to an information page - where you can also donate if you wish to keep this plugin alive. Try it, and see Update 17 July 2023 This is a new plugin based upon the old one - a lot of code was re-written. We are now on Version 2. To use this one please remove the old version, and install this one. This version should be a lot faster! - Typically 3-4 seconds per movie with logging turned on, even faster when logging is off! They both have different plugin ids, so they will both be valid and visible together however there might be a little crossover in the code so Id recommend removing/backing up the earlier version. Occasionaly Identify instantly returns nothing. I have not figured out why yet, but do it again and it works. If my server has the metadata for the person, it will update - even with imdb/tmdb id's if it has them!. - This is a new addition! 3. However there is now an option to grab the full dvd (full landscape front & back) covers as backdrops if you wish. If enabled these will show in backdrop searches. Partial Prep work is now there for Extended Cast information, this will be another way to get more Provider id's and better Cast records - which in turn enable the correct information to be fetched by Tmdb or TvMaze. Its not working yet, but the ground work is almsot complete so thats why you can see it. This will get know actor names when aliases have been used on dvd releases and use them instead. This can also be achieved with ADMv2's Person metadata refresh, but when this part is ready it will add it at initial import of the movie! 6. Logging has been improved and split accross files of each timestamped activity. Leave dissabled for speed. Use when you want to find out whats not working and why. 7. Microsoft.CSharp.RuntimeBinder.RuntimeBinderException: Cannot perform runtime binding on a null reference at CallSite.Target(Closure , CallSite , Object ) at System.Dynamic.UpdateDelegates.UpdateAndExecute1[T0,TRet](CallSite site, T0 arg0) at ADMv2.ADMMetadataProvider.GetSearchResults(MovieInfo searchInfo, CancellationToken cancellationToken) I have not 100% identified the error yet, but have added a recovery error trap to ADM so it recovers and continues and displays the rest of the results. I have aslo fixed the Identify logging so you can see what its doing and what seach (found) item throws the error. I have also added a log option to show where the data is missing from the server - log XML Errors 8 Aug 2023 Identified another issue with identify failing, MovieList file lock causing Identify to abruptly fail resulting in 0 results when media adding/metadata scanning at the same time uses the same file. * Added a wait until file lock release to the MovieList (Up to 5 Second delay), should be less than 1 sec for any of the ADM processes. This will also work in scanning metadata and adding items to the library, so *should* prevent anything failing to use the MovieList for lookups. Pleae note: that the speed of the search depends of the words you use, if you use something common such as "girlfriend" then you will get 1000's of results and the dialog may take a few minutes to respond. It would be great if i could set the server to delete certain shows after a user has watched it. I happen to watch "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report", everyday, and with "News"ish type shows, there is no need to keep the episodes around. So i would like to set MB to auto delete those 2 shows, 3 days after one user has watched it.

As I mention in a related post, I love the additional subfolders for Movie Extras (eg, Shorts, Scenes, Interviews, etc.)! It would be awesome to extend this functionality to TV Series as well. Specifically to add support for many/all of the same folders supported for Movie Extras, eg, extras specials shorts scenes featurettes behind the scenes deleted scenes interviews trailers As well as any additional folders that get added in the future (eg, hopefully Galleries). Support Placement of "Extras" Folders Within Each Season Folder, Plus A Naming Scheme to Link A Particular Extras Folder with a Specific Episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes): I want to clarify that it would be great if these various "extras" folder types could reside within each Season folder. So for example, within a Season 1 folder we could then have an "Extras" folder, a "Deleted Scenes" folder, a "Featurettes" folder, etc. And furthermore, that we could designate a particular folder to refer to a specific episode (eg, "\Season 1\E1 - Deleted Scenes\" for episode 1 deleted scenes). I noticed that the primary image for an episode appears in a folder as "Episode-thumb", and if you also have a thumb for an episode, it doesn't appear in the directory at all. Can something be changed so that the "real" episode thumb also appears in the season directory?

The clients display the Cast & Crew in the order that they appear in the xml file. Sometimes the order that they are in is not what I want and so I would like to change it. Therefore within the metadata editor could a simple up/down arrow be added to each actor so that the order they appear in can be controlled.

Hi, I'm one of (I presume) many people using emby from a bi/trilingual background, and as such have TV Shows that often have more than one audio track (German / English / Japanese in my case). You can set your preferred languages for Audio Tracks in emby of course, but I would like to see this expanded a bit: It would be awesome, if you could set the default language for a Movie / TV Show / Season seperately on a per-user basis. For example, I might have a show with a German and an English Audio track, and our defaults are set to German (the language spoken in our household), but I personally might prefer to watch this particular show in English and my Wife and kids in German - right now I have to change the language every time I start a new episode, and it would be awesome to be able to save my preferences for the whole show attached to my user. Also, this could (and should) be extended to subtitles and display of the same - it would be awesome to have Anime shown in German to my family, but to me, in Japanese with enabled subtitles (embedded in the video), but disabled for them watching in German. Just my 2cents to make emby more enjoyable for a broader target audience - and thank you for your hard work!

My personal top requests which are all about audio. In any order. 1. When listening to an song and staring at the app or web browser app, I want to be able to click and zoom into the album art. Some of my album images are HD and they are really cool. Right now clicking on the art does nothing, it's too small to appreciate. 2. An easier and more consistent way to hop from a song to that song's artist, album, year, etc. . 3. A little more info about the song while it's playing --- especially the year it came out. Music meta data is important. 4. The ability to rename a playlist in emby (instead of add playlist to another new playlist, then delete the first) 5. Better bluetooth support in apps and how it reacts to a bluetooth device going offline and then later comes back on. A consistent problem in my cars & bt headphones. 6. The play queue is too ephemeral in apps, it can vanish pretty easily. Where does it go? 7. And finally an old favorite: The ability to export a playlist (with audio files) to a portable format.

Art is not a backdrop. ClearArt is not uses anywhere in Emby that I know.

So it turns out on Google Chrome browser it's no longer lacking after I turned off hardware acceleration. So I assume the issue is fixed on Google chrome but it's still lacking on Google tv, tried googling if it's possible to turn off hardware acceleration on Google tv, but haven't found any usefully sites.

When watching something in Emby on my AppleTV, and I use the down arrow on the remote to fast forward or rewind or chose a subtitle, and then press the back button to get it off the screen so I can get back to the video, it instead causes the video to completely stop - taking me back to its detail page; where I must then tell it to resume. Although I do understand that by simply waiting a few extra seconds it will automatically dismiss itself, I would suggest the back button dismiss it on demand immediately (or in addition). This is the way YouTube, Plex, Amazon Video, and practically everyone else does it. Thanks for your time.

I have a number of Philips TVs (2022-2023 models) using this remote control layout - https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/tLsAAOSwWC1iYsdp/s-l500.jpg , that lacks the 'next/prev' buttons, so I would appreciate a solution for this as well. I also have the 'mecool' remote ( https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0375/3646/5034/products/2021MECOOLVoiceControlRemoteforMECOOLKM2NetflixCertifiedAndroidTVBox_2.png?v=1667183332 ) paired that lacks these buttons just as well. It would be particularly useful when listening to music or watching music videos. I believe using channel up/down for next/prev would be an elegant solution, however as an alternative (as it was proposed in a different thread), 'pause - right' / 'pause - left' could also be a good shortcut, that would also help when using 'Shield' remote control and maybe other simplistic remotes.

To be more specific, the view that feels like a dead end is the play queue viewer. Go to music, songs, hit random. A random song starts to play and a play queue is generated. Tap on play queue. This is basically the view I'm on while on a mobile or tablet. From this view if I click on a song, it starts the song, even if the song is already playing. It doesn't "feel" like I can look at a song details from the play queue. If I could at least easily look at the song from here, that would probably solve my problem.

That might be the case, strange that it said Emby though... Nevermind, I just installed the Samsung TV app (well done btw, works like a charm and looks awesome) and all my troubles have gone away. One tip though, explain like I am five when you're giving instructions, is a good way to give intstructions. Writing "export to USB root folder" just made me question my whole IT life. Didn't know I had to "double" export it either but nevermind it works now. Thank you!

I've seen some users who had it off, then turned it on and said video played better. But I've also seen the exact opposite happen as well, so I can't tell you which way is better for you, but since you've currently got it on, you might as well try flipping it off.

While I have not solved the mystery, I have solved the problem. I installed a second channelsdvr server at the remote site, and since it will also input the hdhr and create a m3u, I used that feed instead of the tvhe. So far it is working perfectly. So while I have not touched that tvhe in a very long time, Luke, you may have been correct that it was something with the tvheadend. I may go back at some point and see if I can figure out what it was, but for now, I think I will declare success and watch some TV!

PS - I think this should be expanded out to include movies. Specifically, movies that are straight to streaming platforms. When a new movie downloads immediately upon release, it will have wildly inaccurate star ratings, and other data might be missing, such as unannounced cameos. It would nice to get movies to also refresh after a week or so. Ideally, we could set a different refresh rate for movies vs episodes.

Bonjour à tous, pour ceux qui ont des TV Samsung, voici le Tuto pour ne pas toujours avoir de remettre la clef USB ... Le seul défaut vous ne pourrez pas avoir les appli Françaises (My TF1 ou autre par exemple ...) Testé sur Samsung Qled 7 (1) et 3TV Samsung version AU Je pense que ce tuto évite aussi le message, mais @Luke confirmera peut être ? 1- Restaurer votre TV Samsung (oui je sais ça peut être galère ...) 2- Paramètre / général / Réinitialiser (Il vous demande votre code PIN en général 0000 ,mas vous avez pu le modifier ...) 3- Votre TV se rallume 4- Choississez France 5- Continuez jusqu'à accepter les conditions générales, mais ne les acceptez pas ! Faîtes Mute, Volume+, Chaîne+, Mute 6- Choisissez le store US, ou Anglais Désormais vous aurez Emby via le store US :)
