I think you would find the demand is quite high. And frankly, I am surprised that is not already on the road map for this feature set. I have seen many requests on the forum for the extras of a tv show to appear in a distinctly separate location in the UI, like it is for movies. A common suggestion being underneath the cast section.4 points
-
Wait, what? I was so looking forward to this feature, but turns out it doesn't change anything. I don't care that we have to keep them in a folder called Specials. I care that Specials (episodes not part of the regular season) are different things from extras (behind the scenes features, trailers, etc) and should absolutely be treated as different things in the UI.3 points

DSM7 Upgrade for Emby.mkvEDIT: The instructions assume default Synology install volume of /volume1. If your location is different use that instead! This is based on the release version of Emby which at the time of writing/video creation was 4.6.3. The video will become dated so just use the latest DSM 6 Emby version from the website https://emby.media/synology-server.html. If you happen to be running a beta version update to the latest beta version before the DSM 7 update. The idea is to do any updates on DSM 6 first before installing DSM 7. Since the creation of the video Emby Server is now availing in the Emby Package store (release version) so you can install Emby on DSM 7 now from that. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Attached is a quick video of upgrading DSM 6 to DSM 7 with Emby Updates. The video will show only browser items and not the PUTTY/SSH commands but everything done in browser is recorded. The SSH commands are included below. I converted this to MKV/H.265 to make it small enough to download and view offline. DMS7 Upgrade for Emby.mkv21.57 MB · 78 downloads Instructions used were: Download and have ready DSM 7 package for update. https://www.synology.com/en-us/DSM70 (I will be downloading both a virtualDSM 7 & for 920+) Download and have ready Emby Server 4.6.3 for both DSM 6 & DSM 7 https://emby.media/download.html - update Emby Server to current release of 4.6.3. - restart Emby Server and verify your on the latest release version. - uninstall Emby - update DSM to v7 - install Emby 4.6.3 (or same version that was running above (dsm7 version) - You can now install the DSM 7 version directly from the Synology Package store! (still on our website too) - stop Emby - remove emby_pkg user and video group - enable admin account if needed - enable ssh in Synology settings (Terminal & SSH menu) Not shown in video: - connect with Putty to Synology, login with admin user and get root rights with: sudo -i - copy files from old Emby share to new data location: cp -rv /volume1/Emby/* /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer - adjust owner from copied files: chown -R emby:emby /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer - close putty Shown again in video: - From Control Panel go to Shared Folder and edit each share that is used by Emby Server. Click the share, then EDIT, go to permission tab, select System internal user from drop down, grant emby user read/write access. - start Emby Notes: You can now disable the default admin account as well as SSH. You may also want to rename /volume1/Emby to /volume1/Emby6 as well. This will help make sure you don't have anything referencing the old directory. If you don't notice any issues in a week or two you can delete this old folder/share to free up space. DSM7 Upgrade for Emby.mkvDSM7 Upgrade for Emby.mkv1 point

It occurred to me the other day that Emby's Movie and TV libraries treat watched/unwatched indicators in opposite ways. In the TV library, posters display a badge with the number of unwatched episodes on each series poster. No indicator means watched. In the Movie library, posters display a badge with a green checkmark when the movie has been watched. No indicator means unwatched. To summarize: TV: Indicator = UNWATCHED Movie: Indicator = WATCHED It would be great if these libraries could display watched/unwatched status indicators in a consistent manner. Personally I prefer the TV approach, where the indicator corresponds to an unwatched state, as it acts as a flag to draw your attention to something "new". So that would mean no green checkmark on watched movie posters, but instead something like a green star on unwatched movie posters. No change would be needed to the TV library behavior. Thoughts? Am I the only one whose OCD is upset by this?1 point

Woo hoo! Just got an email, my card arrives tomorrow LOL! Just ordered the hdhomerun prime from amazon, gets here sunday. I'll have to thank that manager, he got me a card1 point

Emby requires the <set> info per item to be able to create a collection. Are you saying the Home Screen Collection library is not being created? Does the Movie library have a Collection tab? What metadata providers are enabled? Is "Import collection information from metadata downloaders" enabled on the library? Do you write nfo files with media?1 point

I have already found others, but they were already in emby before rescanning and restarting the server. I'll keep an eye out if the error pops up again for any added post restarting.1 point

If they were grouped it worked, correct? But specific examples would be needed if it didn't work.1 point

I have tried all format ranging from h264 to h265 HDR etc .... my tv (LG C1) switch to 24p every time ! That is AMAZING !!!! Thank you Emby team !1 point

Preview for the next version... Close to be finalized. Remote control mode will be added. It's an extension of the watch together mode. The Remote control mode "syncs" Boxes not just for one movie like in watch together. The remote control mode can be enabled via context menu (maybe in plugin's config menu as well, user interface is still under development). btw, in the video I forgot to enable the mode while first playback (after adding clients). Additionally, each Box can control the other (if enabled in plugin config menu -> option). As you can see the Kodi boxes are very in sync. There is just a tiny gap when I started the playback on the laptop. TV set Kodi box receives the absolute accurate timestamps, but Kodi (internally) needs some time to "buffer/process" the commands. When I control the laptop's Kodi from TV set's Kodi, it's 100% in sync. -> Laptop is much faster. Also you can see the cellphone is running Emby App. It does not support the custom APIs and is a bit off. Not too much, but sill. Further information when next version is released. btw, actually there are 4 Boxes assigned. You cannot see the 4th, it's in the other room. https://youtu.be/HNQnvbu9jzg1 point

It just seems like overthinking the concept of minimalism. Where 5 boxes on a shelf look ugly, so lets just put 1 box. Ignore that the one box is filled with 5 boxes of unorganized stuff. It looks nicer as long as u never open the box.1 point

Edit : Actually Emby stops immediately after each start !! Impossible to join the server (web browser or app) I downloaded last Emby Log, it pointed one error : Maybe it can help ... ? Thank you !1 point

I entered the setup part of the Trakt add on and the PIN that requested was still there. So, I requested a new pin and now it's working! Thanks!1 point

I think you need to reauthenticate with Trakt. New pin.1 point

Hi. No that wasn't included as this is a little trickier than it appears. We're still looking into it.1 point

There‘s a plugin for that somewhere in the forum. Just cant find the topic right now. found it:1 point

Jellyfin has TV extras displayed in this manner. I can't image it would be something Emby could not also implement.1 point

Selecting it once causes audio Remux, selecting it second time triggers Transcoding, so DirectPlay>(PC once) DirectStream>(PC again) Transcoding. You can try sideloading standard Android app (bound to supersede AndroidTV app in some foreseeable future) and see how does that compare: https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html1 point

Hello all, My case : updated to DSM7 without any prep (don't know what Emby version was on DSM6...) Report : when I started Emby, it started from scratch... I followed cayars's instructions in first post and video (except steps about DSM6) I now recovered my Emby setup (acounts, libraries etc) but library won't add new medias added in folders and all medias won't play. My searches in the topic are unsuccessful and hard for me to read all 23 pages in english . Please could you guide me, I guess it's a simple step that I missed ! Thanks a lot and thanks @cayars for this topic an close support !1 point

Clicking any header in Home Screen Favourites will lead to same options, so TV shows can also be shuffled in the same manner (and Movies and Albums and Songs etc...)1 point

I have a i5-12500 (cheapest processor with the fastest (i770) igpu) and 32GB RAM. I run Hyper-V (virtualization) and a lot of other stuff and this machine can easily transcode 5 4k HDR to 1080 SDR. It's all done in the iGPU. I really can't tell any difference with or without subs. The i9-13900k will for sure draw a lot more power than the 13500!! At idle (PL1), the i9 consumes twice the power of the i5. At full load, with the "right" motherboard it can consume more than twice as much energy as the i5. I have a family member in need of a new computer, and I'm contemplating giving them my mobo/CPU/DDR4 setup and going for an i5-13500 with DDR5 RAM. DDR5 has a form of ECC so it should be more stable.1 point

And I just DM'd @cayars a link to the video file.1 point

Just a thought, it would be nice to have the info for the channel show at the top or bottom of the guide. Then if you are reviewing something in the current time and click that channel it just starts playing instead of having click, have the pop up or next page, then hit play again. If you wanted to record it it then just have that in the menu of the active playing channel. If you click an item in the future then display the option to record.1 point

It would be one plugin, that you can switch to create one or two libraries. Top Picks could create either a mixed content library for tv and movies, or it would create two separate libraries "Top Pick Movies", and "Top Pick TV". Of course having attempted this, it is easier said then done. But, not impossible by any stretch.1 point

You're talking about stable, I would already be glad if I would get a new beta that fixes the Special folder issue and my thumbnail extraction issue...1 point

Items stay in favorites when watched. Items in a 'to watch' list should automatically be removed when watched. I want this!1 point

My feeling is that none of the devs really use extras in Movies or TV, so they don't experience the pain of the 90% completed feature set.1 point

HI, there are currently no options for this, but this idea has come up before and is possible for future updates. Thanks.1 point

As of 4.9 multiple db connections were added so increasing this value to much could have negative effects on Ram usage. As it could be 5x your value or in some cases from a beta standpoint 20x your value. Will try to update when more info is available. Performace tweaks Database cache size Sets the amount of data that the database will hold in memory at once, per database file. A larger value may help improve Emby Server performance. Requires a server restart to take effect. If you have the available RAM you should set the database cache size to 1.5 to 2 times your library.db size. Navigate to your platform Emby programdata folder and look in the data folder to see its size. You can find your server info on the dashboard three dot menu. App Settings- Database1 point

The ability to show or hide the ticks has been raised before. You may want to support this feature request. Not sure about the favourite-heart symbol, but you can always put in a feature request.1 point
-
And we have a winner!!!! This is the #1 most valid case I was talking about above! Everybody who is really knowledgeable in databases and experienced over the whole range of DBS implementations would have pointed this out instead of all the other reasons that have been stated, some of them reasonable but not forcing, some of them understandable but just nice-to-have and unfortunately many of them invalid or untrue. It's the number of rows per table where file-based in-process databases like SQLite or the MS Jet Engine are getting to their limits. Rule of thumb: 100k: No Problem 1M: No Joy 10M: No Fly After so many unjustified reasons that were given (like "I have 100 users"), this is finally a case where I can say: Yes, this is really something that could be improved by using an external DBS. PS: This doesn't change the situation right now. But we continue to evaluate demand and necessity vs. required effort for feature requests, as @Luke has pointed out above. And as I have pointed out above, that evaluation is difficult due to the high effort required to change this.1 point

Yeah, transcoding and tone mapping 4K HDR HEVC on my Synology is a no-go, but transcoding 1080p SDR x264 is a piece of cake.1 point
-
I feel this should be a setting so that server admins/owners can decide if quality takes priority over resource. Allowing us to choose would allow people without the resources to downscale from 4K to XYZ just that. The other problem I have, maybe others too, most of my 4K content is HDR* so there is that aspect also.1 point

I agree, but also it seems like the code for favorites could be cloned and given a new name and logo. I’d really love to have both.1 point
-
This would be a great feature for Emby! It would compare to the big streaming companies. (Netflix, Prime, etc..) The favorites is ok but it's just that.. Your favorite movies/tvshows, something that you will watch again.. and again. I would like this list, sometimes content gets overlooked for some reason and this would be a great place to find that content.1 point
-
Well, i would hate this. You always can add stuff you have in your favorites to any list - and so to a "To Watch" List. I have a lot stuff in my favorites that i already saw and its stuff i can rewatch over and over again. But in my to watch list i only wanna have stuff that i never saw before but plan to see.1 point
-
Agree. I've started to use tags, but I'd prefer a fully functional watch list.1 point
-
On the movie page there is a favorite button and a watched button. It would be nice if they could at a watch list button. Very convenient. Zero downside1 point

Emby definitely needs booker reader functionality, cataloging books without the ability to read them within the app is just pointless. I would like to see this added when possible1 point

Had added my vote cause I really think ebooks should get some love as well Surprised me it gets so few upvotes though1 point

Hi. The reason is because the original Roku app was released as free and we didn't want to make people start paying for something that they previously were able to use for free.1 point
-
I'm not sure you will get a clear answer but I suspect the Android TV is one of the most popular apps and charging for it is a reliable source of revenue. As for the Rokus, they don't have a app store that supports payments for in app unlocks therefore it only makes sense it is free for basic usage.1 point
