  1. I just wanted to say thanks. While I do say thanks every time I need help I did want to highlight the fact that one of the main differences between Emby and Plex is support. You guys respond quickly, helpfully, politely even when we might be being dicks and the answer is obvious. You never show frustration client facing and having done accounting software support for 10 years I know first hand what we can be like and sometimes the appreciation is never shown. So thank you for being awesome in your dedication to supporting your users. Happy New Year all and stay safe out there tonight.

  2. this is the key issue here. we have one app that almost everyone on a android tv device is using because side loading is a power user user thing ( see what i did there). but there are an increasing number of situations where it doesnt work. you have to imagine that there are lots of people that try the tv app, find it doesnt work, and just move on to plex or jellyfin rather than coming here to complain. so you're potentially losing customers. then on the other hand, you have a universal app. only power users have access to it and by all accounts it still looks and functions like a bag of spanners although it doesnt have the playback issues that the tv app does. despite the occasional spurt when prompted, development has again almost ground to a halt. its just a really dumb situation to leave yourselves and your users in. the logic of having one app is sound but youve left us and yourselves in this no mans land of currently both apps falling short. if you want to continue with the strategy of one app, despite the current crapness of the universal app, you HAVE to get it in the store asap and go all in on bringing it up to the level of the tv app. you cannot continue to ignore the situation, just redirecting those that complain to manually sideload.

  3. Request that Emby server store Dolby Vision (including profile), Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, HDR10+ (smpte2094) and HLG for appropriate video in the db and use it for display in the media info and track selection sections of movie/episode details screen. This information once in the db can then also be used in numerous other areas like: Mediainfo Cover Art, Stats for Nerds, Distinguishing different DV profiles for hardware support and tone mapping Example Mediainfo app display of HDR10+ ffmpeg patch for HDR10+ https://patchwork.ffmpeg.org/patch/11491/ Related requested that may require DV profile information in order to prevent unneeded TM

  4. Hi, I'm currently looking for a small group of people who would be interested in helping to translate some text commands. This project has to do with natural speech, so it is also about properly translating the phrasing of a commands, as well as the words. The languages I'm looking to translate are: English => German English => Spanish English => one of the many languages of India probably " hi-IN" to start. Please post below if you are interested, it would be great to hear form you

  5. Just checked and Plex has the exact same issue. The issue doesn't occur when watching on any device within the home of the server (LAN).

  6. This usually means a file is being held open, preventing the update from being completed. The easiest solution is to reboot the host server - is that something you are in a position to do? Paul

  7. Hi, this is just the new smaller design of this feature but we'll look at how to work these details back in. Thanks.

  8. Thanks. It's been a long season (had to make money when I could.. cookin'... Ugh... Cookin' why did I ever choose this as a career.. it seemed like such a good idea at the time) I digress, I'm on this. I'll try to recreate this.

  9. Is this true, now I’m intrigued, not sure why lol. Dang I think I finally threw out my last green button remote controls. Those things were sweet.

  10. Unlocks are tied to the store account (Google Play store, Amazon App store, Apple App store), not devices, and they don't carry-over neither between different stores nor between different accounts on the same store. Nope, you paid to unlock it for the Google account that was logged in at the time, likely your own. Now, if you log to as many devices as you wish with that same account, app will be unlocked for that account as well. If you log in with different account - it doesn't apply. Can have "her own playlist watch status" where? Within Emby or throughout GoogleTV? Don't confuse device account with users on your server, for her to have that within Emby she doesn't have to be logged in on the device with her Google account, it can be your account (giving her unlocked App). Depending which Google account is logged at the time. It will already be unlocked as you're logged into the device with your account. It will not be unlocked and you'll have to unlock it again. As long as you log into your devices with the same (yours) account, app will be unlocked. Once you change device account, it doesn't apply.

  11. You need to use the same Google account as far as I know to download the app, then the unlock code also applies to your children devices.

  18. The ability to play videos without stuttering isn't considered a critical fix then ? I mean for the Android app thats easily available to everyone, not the app you have to sideload thats nowhere near finished.
    1 point
  19. Sorry, I'm not sure how to be more clear. We are only making quick and easy critical changes necessary to the TV app at this point. Since the issue you are having is not present in the app we are ultimately moving towards, we are not going to spend time on it in the other app.

  21. Thanks that does. While I get most programming and logical setups sometimes it just doesn’t gel. Also downloading isn’t the best option but it’s better than spending over 500/m to get the shows we watch so subs aren’t labeled the best. Open subs has a problem at the moment so it’s old school solutions so thanks for putting up with me.

  22. The easiest solution is simply to add the series to TVDB. I have just done that (it will have tvdbid=429017), though it may need to go through moderation before you see it. Being only four episodes it didn't take long. Paul

  23. All set, everything is in Git. Link in first post. Version 1.6.0.0 - Allows configuration of time message is displayed on the screen. Allows configuration of message displayed on the screen. Optionally displays the skipped time in minutes:seconds. As before, there was a configuration UI change so clear your browser cache.

  26. @Luke I sent the video to your pm inbox. You see when you exit emby when you try to Watch again it doesn’t play the video. It would be nice if you logout or exit emby it will show recently played shows for all profiles and selecting one will play the video. @SamES

  28. I don't think I will jump ship, there are just so many reasons why I prefer emby over other media servers. Wife said we are purchasing the emby lifetime package after christmas after she took one look at plex

  29. Year old necro, but I'd really like this as well. I really appreciate being able to swap devices and continue watching whatever movie or TV episode I was on. But I also have a fairly large collection of long MP3s (be they live concerts or downloaded podcasts), and I'd like to be able to continue listening to them across devices as well. I listen to podcasts in my car, but not being able to pick them up where I left off on my PC later is annoying, doubly so when the app goes to sleep and completely loses it. I was under the impression this was going to be short listed a year ago, but that hasn't been the case. I just want to be able to continue listening across devices :(

  33. Hi there, recent Plex refugee (6+ years with Lifetime sub) and I just wanted to pass along a few random, specific things that irritated me with Plex and I've found to be standout improvements in Emby, for others who might be considering it. A big thank you to the development team for getting these things right! Installing a custom SSL cert on Linux - painless and simple, requires voodoo on Plex. Multi-episode files - what witchcraft is this that Emby properly understands and treats these as multiple episodes but a single playback item! In-season specials sorted correctly within seasons - Examples include the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries and movies, and Babylon 5 - Thirdspace. This is a big improvement for us, we seem to have a number of these shows. Everything subtitles - my wife prefers subtitles on all the time, and for whatever reason I could not get this working 100% reliably with all of our media on her Roku. Subtitles in general on Plex felt clunky outside of the web app. Emby has already passed the wife test on this - simple to use on the fly, and the "Always show" per-user setting does what it says. User management and licensing - comprehensive and flexible. Everything Plex user management is not. Ability to simply give one of the kids their login information without them needing to either go create a plex account or call me to authorize a new device as a managed user. Combined with the "the server you are connect to has paid, you're good" licensing option for the mobile apps it's not a contest with Plex. Same with restricting content for the little ones in a situation where you can't count on content rating metadata (or where you disagree with the rating), I found it far easier and faster to define exactly what their user profiles could and couldn't access than on Plex. The various options to hide users on login screens - brilliant and massively useful. Those are probably the biggest unexpected things that I found to be unequivocal upgrades over Plex, that had I known about a few in particular I wouldn't have waited for Plex to annoy me with their bad behavior to switch.

  34. Hi, I may have fixed this on my own. Yesterday I was playing around with Emby on the AppleTV again and went to the video settings of the device. There is a menu called "Match content" where you can set two things: Quote from here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208288 It was turned off from my initial troubleshooting. I turned it back on and so far it seems like the stuttering is gone now. I will update this thread, if I was wrong, but it seems fine. Thanks again for the help.

  35. Filebot is a good option, or use something like Advanced renamer to batch add either S01 or S02 to those episodes, as emby I dont know which season those episodes belong to, you may want to add a feature request for emby to guess the season if there are multiple and not specificied, with some random algorithm there

  36. Adding my support - Along these lines can we also show this information in the main 'Video:' section after the codec detail ? so 'Video: 4K HEVC' becomes 'Video: 4K HEVC HDR' for example ? Can we extend to show Dolby Vision too - also easily identifiable by the codec tag being 'dvhe' in the DV stream. Thanks.
