  1. Doomsday Prediction... The AI will make us the 'servers'

  2. I have used this app for some time. They recently overhauled it and now are ready for new users again. It's not a proxy like xTeVe is, it allows you to prune and arrange your IPTV streams and generate m3u and xmltv files that can be consumed by Emby. Use of the app is free, if you want their extensive guide data, there is a minimal charge if it's for personal use. It also fixes the Emby bug (IMO, the Emby devs disagree ) so you can use 1 xmltv entry for multiple streams by setting this option. To find out more and get the app, use this Discord invitation.

  3. Had an internet outage that lasted half a day today and discovered a very annoying issue with the way Emby handles premier licenses. It appears that the clients do not validate the premier license with the server, but with Emby itself. I understand this is to strictly enforce the 25 client count per license. This causes problems when a client is infrequently used and needs to reauthenticate its Premier status with Emby and is unable to because of lack of internet access. There should be a way to reserve a client spot for a specific client on a specific server. Active reservations would reduce your max client count from 25 for each reservation in the system, but would allow a client with a reservation on a server to authorize its premier status with the server itself without having to go out to the internet and validate with Emby. Connecting the client to any other server would go through the traditional validation process.

  5. Hi, the ability to control poster sizes will be coming in future updates to the app. Thanks.

  6. I can't think of a huge list of advantages and disadvantages. Just having access to the Samsung store eliminates one disadvantage but isn't really an advantage either because your external boxes have this also. Disadvantages: Codec support (No DTS, no TrueHD, FLAC 5.1, etc). If you don't have a soundbar or you mainly watch movies from streaming sources this may not be a big deal. No PGS or graphical subs Tizen has a limit on the number of internal tracks which is about 30 Advantages: Codec support. I list this here also because my Shield doesn't pass HDR10+ or HLG. So, codec support really depends on what external box and the codecs your using less clutter a little less electricity used I prefer TrueHD Atmos and PGS subs when available, but using the Samsung app, I can direct play any 4K UHD remux as long as I select an alternate lossy audio (AC3 or DD+) and text subtitle (SRT) before clicking play.

  7. i think the main 2 would be 1) native support for all BDA cards and 2) the handling of channels where the channel name changed.

  8. You've grown up with watching live tv but on television only runs garbage? You have a big library but don't know what to watch next? Then this for you: "VirtualTV" - my new live tv plugin that allows you to create custom channels based on conditions of your Emby library content. What's missing: Maybe codec conditions Known problems: Needs Emby Premier to work (Playback) Emby's live tv and playback api is very limited, so i've had to make some detours to get things working. The plugin has two general playback modes: "continous" and "playlist" playback. With "continous" mode you can also choose between "live", which bahaves like real live tv or "archive", which plays the videos from the start. In "Continuous" mode multiple videos are queued and concatenated to one big file with the help of ffmpeg. To make this happen every video in the queue has to have some common features (video and audio codec). That's why it often happens that the video also has to be transcoded by ffmpeg. For transcoding the plugin relies on Emby's internal transcoding engine. If there's a problem, not uncommon with hardware acceleration enabled, the plugin also has a problem. Nothing i can do about it. The availability of subtitle tracks is mostly dependant of the Emby user playback settings. In continous playback mode only one (the default) subtitle track can be used and this one has to be burnded into the video (transcoding takes place). In "Playlist" playback mode the videos are pushed as a playlist to the Emby clients. It's like you would play your videos directly from your libraries. This way you get all the features you are used to. Audio and subtitle selection, pause, skipping around and similar things. "Native" playback method was created by the Emby Devs. Similar to Playlist playback it will play the real library videos, but with the big difference that playback is purely initiated by the client app, without any remote command execution. This is why it also works for Roku devices on a WAN network. And although the real videos are played, the whole thing is treated like live TV. This means that channel zapping is possible and no dialogs for playing the next episode are displayed. Unfortunately, the new playback method does not yet support all features. As the name "Archive" suggests, it will currently always start all videos from the beginning. In addition, only very few Emby apps automatically advance to the next video. If you want it to be improved even further, each of you should raise your voice in this thread. To get things started install the plugin via Emby's plugin catalog and restart Emby. Setup your channels with a name and number and choose your playback mode. In the channel conditions you'll have to select an Emby account. This account is used to get library access, respect parental rating, reading watched states and selecting the stream language. At least one textual input field of the conditions has to be filled to get some program data. Fields with an asterisk are either evaluated with an "AND" or "OR" condition among each other. Finally, if you've chosen "Continous Playback" for one of you channels, take a look at the transcoding settings. Save your channel line up and manually trigger a "Guide Refresh". Now have fun! Version History: After a plugin update, always clear your browser cache. If your settings still don't load in the config screen, you have to move the "VirtualTV.xml" out of ...\plugins\configurations and restart Emby. Start from scratch. 2.0.0.0 Unlimited number of channels; New playback method "Native (Archive)"; New security concept for the Export API 2.0.2.0 Performance improvements to Guide Refresh; Preview for Add/Edit Channels; Option to disable Program indicators 2.0.3.0 Fixed missing Playlist sort order for some Content Types; Added support for Seasons with Content Source Collections 2.1.0.0 Selectively enable channels for specific users; Create copies of existing channels; Ordered unwatched episode playback 2.1.5.0 Added option to (auto)enable channels on a specific date range; Bug fixing

  9. Hi, I would love to have tautulli or equivalent for emby. Especially for people coming from plex, we would love to see something like tautulli. I know there are a few Statistic plugins but i think we all know there is nothing like tautulli out there. I love the way i see people currently watching movies on my server and the details of what is transcoding etc. i know emby also shows ppl watching movies but it isn't the same. I don't get a notification or even see a icon if someone starts to play while i have the emby page open. There is no icon that shows me someone is watching a movie. Tautulli is also open source so if someone has the skills in python to make it work for emby, this would be amazing. For me this is actually really the only reason I hesitate to switch completely. maybe someone can make this happen

  10. I wanted a colorful, but minimalist set of Library and Genre icons for when I'm using Emby on Roku, and something that stood out dramatically from the movie posters and thumbs. Here's what I did for the My Media set. Here's my Movie Genres: And the Series Genres RAR file attached with the full set as PNGs, and there is some in the archive not shown above (like Sports and Adult). Enjoy! -Mickey EmbyIcons_v4.rar

  11. Guys, The ebook side of Emby/MediaBrowser has been long stalled or rather stagnated. I would like to offer up a couple of suggestions. Many people use calibre as an ebook/comic book tool for scraping data and general management of their collection already. This program is absolutely astonishing in its ability to pull metadata from post calibre scans, as well as draw in metadata from the file source and/or directory structure. http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/ Its a self contained .jar server/reader combination. And honestly I am very impressed by it's small footprint and wide range of abilities. The other option is COPS , which was written specifically with calibre in mind. It is open source, so making it work with emby I would think would be fairly easy. https://blog.slucas.fr/projects/calibre-opds-php-server/ Ever since the original release of MediaBrowser's bookshelf I have always wanted something that would allow me to 'read' my collection, rather than being basically nothing more than a place-set for images of books I own. I am sure that those who mainly have audiobooks are thrilled with bookshelf , but it's nothing more than an extension of the music library IMHO, not new features. We can have both right? Here I give you two suggestions free of charge.. Just because I love you, and Emby Personally I plan on running the Ubooquity Server along side of Emby from now on, just because of it's massive functionality and tiny footprint. But I sure hope that someone decides -- "yeah, ebook support should be in here too" and do something about it - rather than allow this now very very ancient issue to continue to remain an issue. And so I don't have to have 20 different ports open, some with SSL support - some not, because Emby isn't delivering the 'complete package'. (Please take some of this with humor, I know you have your hands full with improvements/bugs/suggestions/requests)

  12. Hi all, I'm the proud owner of a new LG OLED which looks asbolutely stunning. Since I do plan to keep using it for quite long I am quite concerned about burn-in. I have all the built-in protection enabled but when watching HDR content on emby the subtitles are always blinding me at full brightness. The OLED of my friend already had burn-in there after two years. Therefore it would be pretty cool if I could sett the subtiltes to be a bit dimmer when watching HDR content. Thanks for the awesome app!

  13. Would be great if Emby integrated bookets (PDF files, etc) for Music. For example, CD's usually might contain a booklet with liner notes etc that come with the CD, just like albums might have back the days of vinyl. I have most of these in PDF and the ONLY place I have ever seen it integrated into a music server type platform is Roon Labs. Roon is great, but can be expensive. Here is a link on what Roon does to see what I mean: https://kb.roonlabs.com/Gallery Hope this can be added to Emby!

  16. Roku's firmware no longer allows "sideloading" or even private channels except on a quite limited basis. I firmly believe that if you live in an area, like Australia that does not have the full channel store, I would abandon all ideas of owning a Roku. A Fire device or an Android device would be better. In fact a Roku that is not some bastardized version would be a much better choice.

  17. Sorry, what I meant is "technically achievable", not with Emby at this time, though.

  18. We are checking on this, with default forced subtitle set on (including the tons of subtitles), it plays normal, very weird, elaborate more in this Week. Nice but i know mkvtoolnix and use it under unix including mediainfo ffmpeg etc., and handbrake is shit as Hell even as muxxer oneclick encoder whatever. But thx for the Advice.

  21. Uninstalling emby and reinstalling from the Play Store seemed to do the trick. File is playing fine and able to seek wherever in the movie and plays instantly with no stutter. I should have just tried this from the start, thanks for the quick responses though.

  22. mkvtoolnix is the fix. Highly recommend to learn how to use it. https://mkvtoolnix.download/downloads.html It will solve all these problems.

  23. I would recommend learning how to use mkvtoolnix. Google "mkvtoolnix" "Handbrake" is another tool that can help you but mkvtoolnix is easier and more straightforward. It will allow you to delete the extra stuff in the file container. Extremely useful! You can free up HUUUUUUUGE amounts of space deleting foreign language or extra/unnecessary tracks. Will fix your specific issue because it will lower the track limit to just -1Video -1Audio -1Subtitle

  25. For the app no. If you want their well groomed and extensive EPG data there is a charge for that, But it's minimal for individual use. I just got the invitation, I'll post in a bit. But here it is . It's in Discord.

  26. Barring something like a bomb taking out both me and Luke (we are in separate places) we've always said that, if the day ever came where we decided to discontinue development on Emby, we would try to work out a way for you to continue to use what you have for as long as possible.

  31. This plugin is great! Takes me back to my XBMC days using PseudoTV. Nice work mate! From my brief tests using "Playlist Live/Archive" this works great, nice set of channel options too. Going to have some fun setting up this beast with some more channels.. Edit: Have you any plans of adding this to Emby's plugin catalogue? Also does this plugin respect Emby's 'Are You Still Watching?' (sorry haven't had time to test this, or read though 73 pages )

  32. No, just hoping to find out when all the TV stuff that was being worked on a while ago will emerge into the daylight for everyone to use.

  33. I support the suggestions to build this feature into EMBY. It would be very valuable. With most music albums offered in a digital format along with digital PDF booklets, it would be nice to have a program that could both play the music and display the booklet about the music right there on the same page (rather than have to download the PDF booklet from a separate EMBY PDF library). And books, of course. Getting a reader function implemented has an additional perk for the developers since it could give EMBY a competitive edge on similar media servers.

  34. @Mongers looks like it has something to do with "right: unset" for Firefox. So removing, uncommenting will somewhat correct this. .skinHeader.videoOsdHeader { margin-top: calc(1.2em + env(safe-area-inset-top, 0)) !important; padding-top: 0 !important; right: unset; } Or change to something like this. Works on FF not Edge/Chrome. .skinHeader.videoOsd-customFont-remotecontrol:not(.skinheader.videoOsdHeader.headroom-scrolling) { margin-top: calc(1.2em + env(safe-area-inset-top, 0)) !important; padding-top: 0 !important; right: unset; } Get mixed results as it hides back button on both video and music back buttons in FF but in Edge/Chrome shows on video and music. @fillidill FF Edge/Chrome

  36. Hi, If it helps, Emby will add some backgrounds if you tick 'Enable Backdrops' - also, there's lots off css in the css forum section. If interested, I put together (mostly other peoples) stuff here which you can apply or pick the bits you might like from - I think CarlosLima had stuff that modifies the login page.

  37. Another use case for being able to download the media to the local device would be using a Shield with a portable projector outdoors. Being able to have the media on the Shield instead of using a laptop or other larger device always reduces the complexity and the need for trying to stream it over a cellular connection from the home server. Thank you for the information about side loading the Android standard app onto my Shield as this will make the device even more useful.

  38. Hi @Lukeand @CodeCat5I wanted to update with my logs and a short video. I have a Quad HDHomeRun in the UK, and my tuning also take 10 seconds from selection to playing as you can see from the video, is this normal? I have also attached the logs from the play (started at 2022-08-27 19:15:09.108). You'll notice that it tunes to the channel pretty quick, but then waits 6-7 seconds to actually start playback. embyserver.txt

  39. There is at least one update every month. The latest version is always the one in the usb link. Version 1.3.3 was released 23 days ago, so a new version should be coming soon. The only way to automate the update process some would be to change your app region to one of the regions where the app is available in the Samsung app store.

  41. This was one of the hotly discussed topics as an Emby advantage. It is your server, the users are YOUR users and you control their access and details. Plex goes the other way and says NO they are OUR users. You needed to create an account with Plex to have users connect to your Plex server. This basically means Plex forces admins to loose control over their users and Plex wants to control these users forcing on them shitty advertisement and possibly monetize users that are YOUR users and not Plex ones. Well now the shit has hit the fan and they reap the results of that bad decision, just another reason to ditch Plex for Emby. Since I have a lifetime license for Plex it is just sitting there but not used because Emby is so far more likeable and suits my purposes perfectly.

  42. Hi. What servers? You mean our admin server? You should still be able to access your server directly without any problems.
    1 point
  43. The key here is, if you used that same password anywhere else, you need to be sure and change it there. These guys don't break into a Plex server to gain access to your Plex setup. They are looking for passwords to use elsewhere and the horse has already left the barn so changing it at Plex won't help much if you use it anywhere else too. They may also just be farming emails since the passwords are hashed and should be difficult to obtain.

  44. Roll on 2 factor authentication (using an app like MS Authneticator) for Emby is what I say. Should be high focus in Emby dev now to secure our systems further....along with an option for no login page if you just use the Emby apps to connect externally so no Emby login web page presented on the web...

  47. Testify my brother I wrote a app for my provider that ends up with its own m3u and xmltv files. It extracts PPV 1 - Joe Somebody vs Mike Somebody Else 11/11 9pm from the providers file, and adds a PPV entry in its m3u with proper m3u information (group, channel name, icon, xmltv ID) and the stream link from the providers file, and parses the title and start date/time from the providers m3u and creates proper xmltv entries in its file. A pain in the butt, but fortunately my provider rarely changes the content order in their m3u entries so once it works, it only requires infrequent maintenance. I then reference my programs files in Tivimate/Emby etc.

  48. Support for external audio should not only be in Ember Server/App, but also be in Plug-in of Emby for Kodi I'm an Asian and I love to watch Hollywood movies but when I don't understand them most of the time, I download an audio track in my native language and play it with Hollywood and English movies simultaneously to enjoy it. I do not download dual audio movies because I find local encoders having much worse picture quality. There are many websites that provide us with audio tracks of Hollywood movies and many media player are capable of playing external audios like: VLC MPC Kodi (video and external audio file name must be same to be detected and played along) I've used Plex and found it really frustrating because it cannot perform this task, neither it has parental controls (free), so I switched to Kodi but it also has no greater features than EMBY! I installed it today and updated all my libraries, I really loved it and want to use it as my Media Server, its Combo with Kodi is really awesome, I don't like to watch movies in Web Browsers so used its Plugin for Kodi, Now everything is fine except: Emby lacking ability to play an external audio. Please introduce this feature. Not only for Web player but it must work with Kodi Add-on so there should be an option in Kodi to play external audio if using Emby Plugin and server in it. I shall be very very thankful too you. I really found Emby best of all but if it your team design an Emby Media Player for desktop PC, it would be really really great. Thank you.
