  1. Emby Server 4.7 is Released with Many New Features, Improvements and Fixes Emby Server 4.7 is starting to rollout to different platforms. It's packed with new features, improvements and fixes. We wanted to give you a Preview of some new functionality and changes to Live TV as well as bring to your attention possible post installation configuration changes that might be required. If you currently use one of the following Live TV Plugins (NextPVR, MediaPortal, ServerWMC, TVHeadEnd, TVMosaic, Vu+, DVBLink or DVBViewer) you will need to reconfigure the plugin after it is updated following the 4.7 installation (the server checks for new plugins after a new install). As part of this process the guide will refresh. Please let it completely finish before going to the next step. Once the guide refresh is complete please go to Live TV menu and add a new tuner. You will see an entry for the plugin you are using. See Below: Live TV has many new features as well as a new plugin framework. Our own internal tuners and guide have been moved into plugins using this new framework as well. Setting up a tuner for use in Emby thanks to the new framework allows for a unified architecture, simplifying tuner/source setup. Here's an example of the Add TV Source dialog showing a few of the different choices using the new plugins. Whenever you install a new Live TV Plugin an entry will appear on this dialog. All available tuner types are now managed from one central place simplifying setup and configuration. All tuner types now share a common set of features. This allows 3rd party plugins to work exactly the same as Emby provided sources. This is now possible thanks to a new TV framework Emby uses debuting in this release. This new framework allows for simpler TV plugin creation as the server takes over responsibility of many functions previously needed at the plugin level. This helps to prevent issues related to specific plugin code as Emby server can now handle streams in a very consistent manner regardless of source. This is a WIN/WIN for developers as well as users! Emby Server 4.7 along with it's new TV plugin Framework includes new features and expanded functionality. Some of the highlights are: Support for OTA ATSC 3.0 & 4K Live TV If you have an ATSC 3.0 compatible tuner and live in a TV market currently broadcasting ATSC 3.0, Emby has everything you need to embrace this new technology. This includes new support for the proprietary AC-4 coded needed to decode audio streams. Not only will you get a beautiful picture especially on 4K HDR channels, but awesome sound as well! Cable Support for 4K Channels Emby supports receiving 4K digital cable channels. All you need is a compatible tuner like the ever popular HDHomeRun Prime. Of course your provider needs to support 4K channel transmission and have this turned on for you account. Check your providers website for 4K support as many providers have this available, often at no additional cost. 4K Channel support is not limited to built in OTA and Cable tuners but is fully supported through all tuner types if the source itself support 4K. Here's a great screenshot of a 4K SDR broadcast captured from an HDHomeRun Prime tuner: Universal Closed Caption Support In All Emby Clients Every Emby Client including web browsers fully support Closed Captions, not to be confused with subtitles. The Emby Transcoder is fully Closed Caption aware, so it doesn't matter how or where you play Live TV in Emby, it's now available if you require it. Manual Recordings Support Another new addition to Emby is support for manual recordings regardless if you have guide information or not. You can setup these recordings to use specific channels, set the starting start and end times, you can set the frequency of recordings (one and done or Recurring) as well as specific days of the week. Of course you can personalize the title of the recording(s) as well. You can setup a manual recording easily by clicking the the Create Recording button followed by choosing the Channel and Time option on the popup window. You can then setup the manual recording criteria that will be used. Here you see the custom recording already scheduled to record. Multiple Channel Support for Series Recordings You can now setup a single recording that can be used across specific multiple channels you choose. Emby also has adds new options to allow: Support Negative Recording Padding Values Enter a negative Number in the Start or End Options Max Recording Length for Series Recordings You can now set as a precaution a maximum duration that any recording can have. This shouldn't be needed but is there if you need it should you have a "fringe" reception channel that sometimes causes you grief with recordings. All New Views in Live TV Recordings Tab Emby now supports viewing your recordings just like other Movies or TV Shows libraries. Explore this option on your own and you should feel right at home with it. Server Dashboard Changes The server dashboard has been reorganized a little to make it easy to quickly find information. It also adds additional information. Here you can quickly see 2 Active Recordings taking place on the Server. Now Playing Dashboard The Now Playing section on the Dashboard sports a lot of new information but is easier to view as well. In the above picture you can quickly see Apollo 13 is Direct Playing the content as well as see additional information about the streams. My Cousin Vinny on the other hand is Transcoding the Video while leaving the Audio untouched, but is sending this to the client using HLS. The little graphics in the Video section following HEVC tell you it's using Hardware Transcoding. You can see the transcoder is Throttling (waiting) as it's producing 53fps which is more than what's needed at the time. The new Now playing also sports new features such as being able to click on the video name (ie Apollo 13) and be taking directly to it's detail page. Same with clicking on the username or device type. It's very cool! Improved Tab Design Used at the Top of Pages Emby now uses an improved design for tabs whenever show on a page. It's much easier to quickly see there are multiple tabs on the page with options and features. It's also much easier to see which tab your currently using. The new tab interface look follows your choice of theme information as well. New Theme Options Emby Server 4.7 gives you more control than ever over the look of your pages by allowing you more control over the theme options. You now have separate theme and accent color options. Want a strong all blue theme? How about and easy to see dark theme with Pick Highlights? You can also use a bit of imagination mixing different Theme, Setting Theme and Accent colors to achieve interesting results not possible previously. Embedded Lyrics Support for Music Files Emby now supports display of musical lyrics you provide. This doesn't require modifying your actual music tracks but is done using a text file residing next to the track! You can quickly and easily use a tool such as MediaHumon Lyrics Finder that makes quick work of adding Lyrics to your existing content. Rescan your music library and have this: This is a great new feature that's easy to implement, uses hardly any storage space (text files) and gives you great results! (first icon bottom left) Audio now playing screen The above picture shows one view of our new audio Now Playing Screens. Here's another version of the same screen without the lyrics showing your current queue: This view uses the middle button at the bottom between Lyrics and the cog/settings icon. Clicking the last icon (cog/settings) brings up a mini menu allowing you to change playback speed, Stats for Nerds or the ability to save your current queue as a playlist. Without any of the options selected you can have a simpler viewer centered on the page like this: You can get to these screens clicking the far right icon on the audio playback toolbar at the bottom of the screen. This new audio toolbar put everything you need right at your fingertips. See the artist, album and song. Change volume, set repeat mode, pause, stop, change tracks or switch views as shown above. The toolbar stays at the bottom of the screen for music while allowing you to explore other parts of the system. Very Nice! Audio Book Continue Listening Emby supports continue listening to Audio Books. The above screen shot shows the docked toolbar at the bottom of the screen while the top portion show a new option being set to display on the home screen to be able to quickly access and continue listening to audio files. New On Screen Display (OSD) Features Some of the new 4.7 OSD features have been shown recently in a couple Emby client blog posts using a preview release of 4.7. Some of the functionality of visual timelines and thumbnail graphics have been available in some form the past but now are fully unified in a cohesive manner that's very easy to use from a keyboard, mouse or remote. It's very slick, adds new navigational functionality as well as additional information you had to quick playing in the past to access. You can see how much thought and care went into this design allowing it to work effortlessly across the different cleints. Visual Timeline Showing Overlayed Chapter Information Done Through Keyboard Navigation Info - Bottom-Left Menu Option This will bring up information about the movies, show episode or TV channel you happen to be watching. Chapters Menu This shows the next menu option displaying a list of embedded chapters including the Chapter name, the timeline it starts as well as of thumbnail from the start of the scene. Cast & Crews How often have you watched something and wanted to know the actor or actresses name playing a part? Previously you had to exit playback to look this information up but now it's right here always available a click or two away. What a non-intrusive time saver this option is! On Now You can quickly and easily see what's on TV using the two new views added to the OSD. The On Now view above uses the programs graphics if available (Emby Guide supports this) to show what's currently on each channel in your lineup. You can easily scroll the list sideways to get a good look at everything currently being broadcast. The Guide showed below allows you to quickly see what's on a currently as well as what's coming on later. It's not limited to what's shown but allows scrolling up and down channels as well as the timeline so you can see what's coming on 12 hours from now. It's a fully functional Mini-Guide built right into the OSD. All of the OSD functions shown above work right over top the currently playing media allowing you access to a lot of new information with the least amount of disruption possible. Previously you probably got gripes and complaints from family members if you exited the media playback to get a look at the cast list to see the name of the actor. Now instead of having to wait to the end of the movie to see the cast list or catching wrath from the family, you can quickly view this information in a non-disruptive manner. Having all this new information as well as new tools for easier navigation right at your fingertips during playback shows how much thought and design went into this new version. Emby sets the bar high for OSD functionality that others can't compare to. More To Come! We're excited to share how awesome Emby Server 4.7 release is. We plan to following up this blog post with additional posts in the coming days expanding on it's new features. A special thank you goes out to all the people that helped test the many beta versions along the way! Inevitably with a monster release of this size there will likely be some issues we'll address with quick to follow maintenance releases. 5. I am switching over from a Win7 box running MBC to Chromecast dongles. With the Win7 box I had a HDMI to Cat6 setup that allowed me to stream to up to 4 displays/TVs simultaneously. It was great while it lasted, but involved stapling cables to the ceiling to run it from room to room - plus it has borked Can there be an option to multi-cast to several receivers at once? i.e. simultaneously play to Chromecast dongles in my office and living room and kitchen simultaneously so i can walk from room to room without stopping and restarting the movie or show all the time? I realize that bandwidth could POTENTIALLY be an issue, but i have a fill gigabit network and a multi-port NAS so that really is the least of my worries... Thank you!

  6. Would be nice if the server could serve a custom logo to the clients, i.e replace the emby logo with something relevent to the server. This would look really neat.

  7. Can we have an option to flatten series if there are XX episodes or less. Just provides the ability to eliminate one frustrating click. I wouldn't want it on my 1,000+ episode Looney Tunes series. However, when you only have one or two seasons in a series, it helps drill down easier.

  8. Hope this is the right forum - and I've probably missed something obvious, bit hopefully some one can help... Yesterday I was able to access Emby remotely on my phone. Today, I couldn't. I thought that maybe my PC had restarted due to an update or power failure. However when I got home my PC was running normally. I checked again, and when connected to the local network with WiFi I could access the server, but when I switched to mobile data my phone wouldn't connect. The only thing I noticed was that in the early hours of this morning the Port Mapper plugin had updated... As nothing else has changed I can only think that the issue is related to this. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

  9. Really enjoying 4.7.0.60 so far, everything feels faster, smoother, slicker. Great job! There's a few minor issues I've had since upgrading though - tag entry under "edit metadata" in browser no longer gets focus when the input window opens. when you click to add a tag, you used to be able to start typing immediately, now you have to move the mouse and click on the input window before it gets focus. sometimes clicking once isn't enough and you have to click multiple times before it gets focus and you can start typing. when entering multiple tags this gets really tiresome, as it used to be that upon pressing "enter" to save the tag, you could then press "enter" again to enter a new one, start typing it, then press "enter" to save and "enter" to input a new one etc, and so it was quick and easy to enter multiple tags without having to touch the mouse. you can still press "enter" to input a new tag but now you have to click a mouse button to get focus every time! I've tested this in Firefox and Edge - in "home videos & photos" libraries, you used to be able to favourite folders, and I have loads of these faved in my library. this seems to have gone, please bring it back! - the checkbox on a thumbnail to mark something as "played", if it's on a folder, will mark all the contents as "played" but if you did this by accident, there's no way to undo it - clicking it again doesn't mark the contents as "unplayed" but instead marks them as "played" again. if you right click it, the menu contains an option to "mark as played" but no option to "mark as unplayed". this used to work in earlier versions - if you clicked it by accident and marked all the contents as "played", you could click it again to undo this and all the contents would be marked "unplayed". so far the only way I've found to undo this is to go into the folder, and multi select all the contents and mark them as unplayed, which is tiresome if there's a hundreds of videos as there's no "select all" either, you have to click each and every one of them in multi select

  11. Note when you migrate to the 4.7 tuner model, Emby and Kodi will be totally isolated so will likely have some decisions to make on which clients you want to use. Martin

  25. To enable anyone to say anything useful, it would help to know what kind of subtitles they are (see the bottom of the details screen for the item), and what the various settings in the server and the Roku relating to subs are set to. Most of this information is saved in the server log from the time you had the issue, so the starting point is to provide that as detailed in this advice: Paul

  26. Hi @Cheesegeezer Recommendations could certainly use 'ratings' given by users to have user based recommendations (doh..) but my initial thoughts for Recommendations was based on either manually selected items by others (or an admin) or some basic system logic such as Films from the 60's etc. I agree with Eric, I truly don't believe in a home environment that my family/friends are going to rate a film - if they are prompted after the show - with a 5 star rating option splashed across the screen - then maybe they would - but it's value to others is, imho, very limited. As an example of this, I know my parents better than any AI 'recommendations' system which are sometimes laughable and other times downright offensive ! So all I really want to do is tag movies I think are suitable and they may like. Each user has their own list that others can add to (maybe with permissions?). That's it really, nothing more, nothing less. While related, Spotlight is something different - that is more of a case of simply highlighting you have a new title and wish to bring it to the top of the pile ( if you frequently add to your system.) This is a global thing - it's not done on a per user basis and should be Admin controlled or permissioned. Ideally the user can toggle it off or they watch it and it disappears of course.

Sorry i understand now This folder structure works fin too : \Music \Artist Name \Album Name \CD 1 1- Song.mp3 2- Song.mp3 \CD 2 1- Song.mp3 2- Song.mp3 The things most important is : "The tracks still need to have their track and disc numbers tagged in the embedded information in the file." Thanks

  35. NO LIABILITY IS ACCEPTED AT ALL, so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. What it does is different to the first posts, the plugin has changed quite a lot Fixes broken image links Removes Corrupt Images - Allows Emby to reload "good" images Downloads Images Refreshes Images (But not the text) What it doesn't do is check if the actor + movie is valid, only the actor name. If you have 2 or more actors for example named "bob smith" it might get the wrong image for one of them. Also to note there is currently no aspect ratio check. You might possibly get some landscape images. Plugin is abandonded, however this plugin (fixed and working properly) is now incorporated inside another plugin. See my post here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/86323-tmdb-corrupt-image-fix-plugin-for-windows-10/page/7/

  38. That's not true from the server's standpoint. The server can load a self-signed cert, it's just that later the client devices might end up rejecting it. It's up to the server admin to choose an appropriate source of a certificate based on the apps and devices they intend to use.

  41. Hi guys, trying to do a complete tuto for those who don't understand what to do. hope it helps first, DSM migration is not a simple upgrade, there is a lot of changes that's why there is a DSM6 and a DSM7 version of emby ! it's not as simple as that, historically synology let devs to do some tricks to get access to some ressources that is not possible anymore in DSM7, emby guys need to recode the app. I created a VDSM6, last version, Emby last version, same configuration as I had before migration (at the difference I was in beta) : 1 share video with subdirectories DSM EMBY user full rights on it custom cache, logs, transcode files and metadatas paths some users by the way I recommand the nfo metadatas files creation for all your files and libraries... STEP 1 : DSM 6 - where are my datas ?? start by looking the paths on the dashboard then take a look on the settings go to the library advanced options then the transcoding temporary path and the conversion temp path keep in mind where are your datas ! wrote it somewhere. STEP 2 : Am I in the latest version of emby ? check it, double check, if not, stop emby, go download the latest package and upgrade. let's do a restart to be sure STEP 3 : stop and delete emby from DSM STEP 4 : leeeeeet's GO upgrade your DSM to version 7 now we can do hard stuffs STEP 5 : install emby FOR DSM7 https://emby.media/synology7-server.html choose the right package (to me 64-bit), and install it manually. the package is called synology7_4.6.4.0 let the run after installation check box, we need to let emby starts to let it create its files and stop it STEP 6 : remove emby_pkg user and video group go the control panel - user and group and remove the emby__PKG_ user no more user still in user and group, go to the group tab and delete de video group no more video group now, to be sure, go edit your user account to check if you still have all access to your shared folders. return to the user tab and edit your user, if you have multiple users, edit them all then go to the permission tab, I lost my access to the emby shared folder in the migration. check and double check your access to all your folders (if you have sonarr, radarr... you will do the same to give back the sc-xxx groups rights, but it's another subject) do the correction and SAVE for those who use the admin user, we talk about it later but yes you have to do the same with it STEP 7 : give rights to the emby user on your shared folders the emby user is a local system user, it is hidden, we need to give it the right to access the folders. stay in the control pannel and go to the shared folders, remember the paths on the step 1 ? in my case it was the shared folder called emby for the custom paths and the share called video to my libraries. edit your folders. go to the permissions tab, the emby user is not here, that's normal, click on local users and select system internal user now you can give read/write access to the emby user do the same FOR ALL THE SHARED FOLDERS emby has access to STEP 8 : technical stuff emby is still down, user rights are clean, now we have to copy/paste all the previous files from emby on DSM 6 to emby on DSM7. the reason is simple : the package is not installed in the same directory. to do that we need to go in cli (Command Line Interface) but synology is not that simple, you can't do it with your "classic" user you need to do it with the admin account and get an "elevation" to the root user. AND, the admin user is, for mostly people, disabled by default. (for those how the admin account is enable because they use it, just check if you can access all the folders, some rights disapeared with the migration) so, let's go the control pannel, user and group and edit the admin user, by default, it is disabled uncheck the box disable this account now go change password, because if you never used this account, it has no password the account is now ready to get access to the cli, we need to activate the SSH service, stay in the control pannel and go to terminal & snmp to activate the SSH service, let the port 22, don't forget to apply modification now you need an ssh client, I use mobaxterm but for you let's use putty, you can download it here https://www.putty.org/ we don't need to install the whole package, juste download the exe file then run it, check if you are in SSH and enter you synology IP if you can't access to your NAS, you did not apply on the SSH service page, go back and check.. accept the keys and log in with the admin account we now need an elevation, type the command sudo -i the password is the same as the admin account, you are now root STEP 9 : copy old file to the new location still remember the path of your files ? we have to copy them now with the command cp -rv /volume1/Emby/* /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer it means Copy -RecursiveVerbose <old emby path/all file> to <new emby path> depends of the number of your files, the copy will take some times, when you returns to prompt, the copy is done now we have to give back the good rights to the user emby on those files, so we have to pass the command chown -R emby:emby /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer keep putty open, just in case there is a users and library problem... FINAL STEP : START EMBY dark screen, starts good... check the paths (remember step 1..) and delete all custom, some paths keeps the old one, some paths are still in the emby shared folder settings, delete cache path library (empty, here we go...), metadata cache empty, save just in case transcoding path empty, save convertion, settings, delete path and save check all the previous old custom path and restart emby FINAL FINAL STEP : where are my users and libraries ??? now got a empty users and empty libraries, but the configuration is ok. don't panic. stop the emby server return to putty and do the command rm -r /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer/* it will delete all the file in the new installation path of emby, don't delete file until emby is not completely down. then redo the command cp -rv /volume1/Emby/* /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer and redo the command chown -R emby:emby /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer start again emby and voilà ! all good ! when all done, you can close putty. you can also disable the SSH service and disable the admin account if you don't need it. remember control pannel user and group for the admin user, terminal and snmp for the SSH service

  42. I believe you can do it with Trakt. We can't do any IMDb integration as they charge a fortune for access to their API. I do have a dialog with them, though, and they say they may have something for us open-source guys later this year.
