  1. Emby Server 4.7 is Released with Many New Features, Improvements and Fixes Emby Server 4.7 is starting to rollout to different platforms. It's packed with new features, improvements and fixes. We wanted to give you a Preview of some new functionality and changes to Live TV as well as bring to your attention possible post installation configuration changes that might be required. If you currently use one of the following Live TV Plugins (NextPVR, MediaPortal, ServerWMC, TVHeadEnd, TVMosaic, Vu+, DVBLink or DVBViewer) you will need to reconfigure the plugin after it is updated following the 4.7 installation (the server checks for new plugins after a new install). As part of this process the guide will refresh. Please let it completely finish before going to the next step. Once the guide refresh is complete please go to Live TV menu and add a new tuner. You will see an entry for the plugin you are using. See Below: Live TV has many new features as well as a new plugin framework. Our own internal tuners and guide have been moved into plugins using this new framework as well. Setting up a tuner for use in Emby thanks to the new framework allows for a unified architecture, simplifying tuner/source setup. Here's an example of the Add TV Source dialog showing a few of the different choices using the new plugins. Whenever you install a new Live TV Plugin an entry will appear on this dialog. All available tuner types are now managed from one central place simplifying setup and configuration. All tuner types now share a common set of features. This allows 3rd party plugins to work exactly the same as Emby provided sources. This is now possible thanks to a new TV framework Emby uses debuting in this release. This new framework allows for simpler TV plugin creation as the server takes over responsibility of many functions previously needed at the plugin level. This helps to prevent issues related to specific plugin code as Emby server can now handle streams in a very consistent manner regardless of source. This is a WIN/WIN for developers as well as users! Emby Server 4.7 along with it's new TV plugin Framework includes new features and expanded functionality. Some of the highlights are: Support for OTA ATSC 3.0 & 4K Live TV If you have an ATSC 3.0 compatible tuner and live in a TV market currently broadcasting ATSC 3.0, Emby has everything you need to embrace this new technology. This includes new support for the proprietary AC-4 coded needed to decode audio streams. Not only will you get a beautiful picture especially on 4K HDR channels, but awesome sound as well! Cable Support for 4K Channels Emby supports receiving 4K digital cable channels. All you need is a compatible tuner like the ever popular HDHomeRun Prime. Of course your provider needs to support 4K channel transmission and have this turned on for you account. Check your providers website for 4K support as many providers have this available, often at no additional cost. 4K Channel support is not limited to built in OTA and Cable tuners but is fully supported through all tuner types if the source itself support 4K. Here's a great screenshot of a 4K SDR broadcast captured from an HDHomeRun Prime tuner: Universal Closed Caption Support In All Emby Clients Every Emby Client including web browsers fully support Closed Captions, not to be confused with subtitles. The Emby Transcoder is fully Closed Caption aware, so it doesn't matter how or where you play Live TV in Emby, it's now available if you require it. Manual Recordings Support Another new addition to Emby is support for manual recordings regardless if you have guide information or not. You can setup these recordings to use specific channels, set the starting start and end times, you can set the frequency of recordings (one and done or Recurring) as well as specific days of the week. Of course you can personalize the title of the recording(s) as well. You can setup a manual recording easily by clicking the the Create Recording button followed by choosing the Channel and Time option on the popup window. You can then setup the manual recording criteria that will be used. Here you see the custom recording already scheduled to record. Multiple Channel Support for Series Recordings You can now setup a single recording that can be used across specific multiple channels you choose. Emby also has adds new options to allow: Support Negative Recording Padding Values Enter a negative Number in the Start or End Options Max Recording Length for Series Recordings You can now set as a precaution a maximum duration that any recording can have. This shouldn't be needed but is there if you need it should you have a "fringe" reception channel that sometimes causes you grief with recordings. All New Views in Live TV Recordings Tab Emby now supports viewing your recordings just like other Movies or TV Shows libraries. Explore this option on your own and you should feel right at home with it. Server Dashboard Changes The server dashboard has been reorganized a little to make it easy to quickly find information. It also adds additional information. Here you can quickly see 2 Active Recordings taking place on the Server. Now Playing Dashboard The Now Playing section on the Dashboard sports a lot of new information but is easier to view as well. In the above picture you can quickly see Apollo 13 is Direct Playing the content as well as see additional information about the streams. My Cousin Vinny on the other hand is Transcoding the Video while leaving the Audio untouched, but is sending this to the client using HLS. The little graphics in the Video section following HEVC tell you it's using Hardware Transcoding. You can see the transcoder is Throttling (waiting) as it's producing 53fps which is more than what's needed at the time. The new Now playing also sports new features such as being able to click on the video name (ie Apollo 13) and be taking directly to it's detail page. Same with clicking on the username or device type. It's very cool! Improved Tab Design Used at the Top of Pages Emby now uses an improved design for tabs whenever show on a page. It's much easier to quickly see there are multiple tabs on the page with options and features. It's also much easier to see which tab your currently using. The new tab interface look follows your choice of theme information as well. New Theme Options Emby Server 4.7 gives you more control than ever over the look of your pages by allowing you more control over the theme options. You now have separate theme and accent color options. Want a strong all blue theme? How about and easy to see dark theme with Pick Highlights? You can also use a bit of imagination mixing different Theme, Setting Theme and Accent colors to achieve interesting results not possible previously. Embedded Lyrics Support for Music Files Emby now supports display of musical lyrics you provide. This doesn't require modifying your actual music tracks but is done using a text file residing next to the track! You can quickly and easily use a tool such as MediaHumon Lyrics Finder that makes quick work of adding Lyrics to your existing content. Rescan your music library and have this: This is a great new feature that's easy to implement, uses hardly any storage space (text files) and gives you great results! (first icon bottom left) Audio now playing screen The above picture shows one view of our new audio Now Playing Screens. Here's another version of the same screen without the lyrics showing your current queue: This view uses the middle button at the bottom between Lyrics and the cog/settings icon. Clicking the last icon (cog/settings) brings up a mini menu allowing you to change playback speed, Stats for Nerds or the ability to save your current queue as a playlist. Without any of the options selected you can have a simpler viewer centered on the page like this: You can get to these screens clicking the far right icon on the audio playback toolbar at the bottom of the screen. This new audio toolbar put everything you need right at your fingertips. See the artist, album and song. Change volume, set repeat mode, pause, stop, change tracks or switch views as shown above. The toolbar stays at the bottom of the screen for music while allowing you to explore other parts of the system. Very Nice! Audio Book Continue Listening Emby supports continue listening to Audio Books. The above screen shot shows the docked toolbar at the bottom of the screen while the top portion show a new option being set to display on the home screen to be able to quickly access and continue listening to audio files. New On Screen Display (OSD) Features Some of the new 4.7 OSD features have been shown recently in a couple Emby client blog posts using a preview release of 4.7. Some of the functionality of visual timelines and thumbnail graphics have been available in some form the past but now are fully unified in a cohesive manner that's very easy to use from a keyboard, mouse or remote. It's very slick, adds new navigational functionality as well as additional information you had to quick playing in the past to access. You can see how much thought and care went into this design allowing it to work effortlessly across the different cleints. Visual Timeline Showing Overlayed Chapter Information Done Through Keyboard Navigation Info - Bottom-Left Menu Option This will bring up information about the movies, show episode or TV channel you happen to be watching. Chapters Menu This shows the next menu option displaying a list of embedded chapters including the Chapter name, the timeline it starts as well as of thumbnail from the start of the scene. Cast & Crews How often have you watched something and wanted to know the actor or actresses name playing a part? Previously you had to exit playback to look this information up but now it's right here always available a click or two away. What a non-intrusive time saver this option is! On Now You can quickly and easily see what's on TV using the two new views added to the OSD. The On Now view above uses the programs graphics if available (Emby Guide supports this) to show what's currently on each channel in your lineup. You can easily scroll the list sideways to get a good look at everything currently being broadcast. The Guide showed below allows you to quickly see what's on a currently as well as what's coming on later. It's not limited to what's shown but allows scrolling up and down channels as well as the timeline so you can see what's coming on 12 hours from now. It's a fully functional Mini-Guide built right into the OSD. All of the OSD functions shown above work right over top the currently playing media allowing you access to a lot of new information with the least amount of disruption possible. Previously you probably got gripes and complaints from family members if you exited the media playback to get a look at the cast list to see the name of the actor. Now instead of having to wait to the end of the movie to see the cast list or catching wrath from the family, you can quickly view this information in a non-disruptive manner. Having all this new information as well as new tools for easier navigation right at your fingertips during playback shows how much thought and design went into this new version. Emby sets the bar high for OSD functionality that others can't compare to. More To Come! We're excited to share how awesome Emby Server 4.7 release is. We plan to following up this blog post with additional posts in the coming days expanding on it's new features. A special thank you goes out to all the people that helped test the many beta versions along the way! Inevitably with a monster release of this size there will likely be some issues we'll address with quick to follow maintenance releases. Please make sure to let us know in the community forum what you think of our new 4.7 release and any issues or questions you might have. Post Questions, Comments and Issues Here. 3. No, that's good, because all the wrong media data I've seen from the portable version is now correct (I've been afraid it might be the other way round, that's why I had ask to refresh on both installations). Please hold on, will round-up on this issue in a moment..

  4. Never commented on that. You can create an account with a password, making sure to enable "Allow this user to change their password and profile image" on the profile page. Then email/tell the user the URL, Username and current password. Give them instructions to login via web browser (click the link), then to change the password. "To change your current password please click the settings icon at the top right of the web page which is the person icon. Select app settings from the menu, then Password." You could also include directions if you wish to help a user customize their client with the other menu choices as well (Display, Home Screen, Playback, Subtitles), but of course you can set that up yourself before emailing or notifying them. But it's very easy for a user to change their own password as long as you allow it (setting mentioned above). Carlo PS it would take you all of 10 to 15 minutes to put together a nice "welcome to my server" email template with instructions & screen shots showing how to customize their experience. Even better would be to provide a couple pictures up front of the Apple, Dark & Blue Radiance themes in Desktop mode so they'll be encouraged to make the changes after seeing what the default looks like.

  5. That was quick and that did it. Thank you. I must have done that previously as my main user has the libraries in a logical order but I was setting up a new user and it's a Very Long Time since I've done that and had forgotten how. Thanks again and thanks to Happy2Play as well. Kevin.

  6. You'll have to Refresh Metadata for existing items, newly added content will be automatically added to collections. Also, pay attention on Minimum collection size, set it as low or high as you prefer.

  7. Remember this is a per library option and you will have to Refresh search for missing on the library if you are enabling this option to update existing metadata.

  9. You can only use the secure (https) version of the web app if your own server is also secured with SSL. Otherwise you will only be able to use the non-secure version.

  10. Many, if not most, Internet Providers give you a dynamic external IP address by default. You generally have two choices: 1. Ask your ISP for a static IP address. This may cost a small monthly fee. 2. Use a DDNS service, like https://www.noip.com/, which is a free service. You then would give your parents the new DDNS, as that will stay the same.

  11. The same happens for other versions of windows that do not have this role/feature, including all versions of Windows Server. I'm running it on 2012R2. Don't judge me been meaning to update this for ages :D. This is the link for version 2012R2. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40837 There are likely other versions available for other versions of Windows server by searching "media feature pack server XXXX" NOTE: it does require installation of IIS as a pre-req. I dont particularly care for that, but it is what it is. Its been installing for the past half hour. Will come back tomorrow morning to see if it worked or not.

  12. Hi there, usually this is a sign of the bitrate being too high for the connection. I would try lowering the in-app quality setting to reduce the bitrate. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

  13. I am switching over from a Win7 box running MBC to Chromecast dongles. With the Win7 box I had a HDMI to Cat6 setup that allowed me to stream to up to 4 displays/TVs simultaneously. It was great while it lasted, but involved stapling cables to the ceiling to run it from room to room - plus it has borked Can there be an option to multi-cast to several receivers at once? i.e. simultaneously play to Chromecast dongles in my office and living room and kitchen simultaneously so i can walk from room to room without stopping and restarting the movie or show all the time? I realize that bandwidth could POTENTIALLY be an issue, but i have a fill gigabit network and a multi-port NAS so that really is the least of my worries... Thank you!

  14. Plex has it built in that you can have it setup to use SSL without having to create and install your own certificates. They teamed up with Let's Encypt. Any chance you would make that an option on Emby. Even if it was just for those that pay for Emby Premier.

  15. When controlling volume with a remote or keyboard command the system volume will change and the in app volume will change. This would be fine if they were in sync but they are not. Could the volume controls be separated completely or could the in app volume reflect the actual system volume. So if I were to open the app with system volume of 50% the app would report this as well. Emby theater and browser is affected by this.

  16. Server 4.7 is great. Lots of wonderful improvements. Another to suggest: display track times in play queue, either on main queue screen (perhaps difficult given small screen real estate on many Emby app screens) or available by press-hold-popup.

  17. I think I found the issue. For some reason the server isn't bypassing the VPN any more. I have a ticket open with the VPN provider but can't seem to fix it unless the VPN is off. Thank you guys for all the help. I really appreciate it.

  20. It's due to different information about the audio stream: It requires a metadata refresh to update the data. (please do on both versions)

  21. Plex operates on a different principle; with Emby, you are always connecting directly to your server, you're just loading hosted web app but the traffic is not routed through external servers.

  24. Why is there a 2s difference between the plugin and core? Which one is correct/wrong? The core side needs to provide more information on why an episode doesn't have an INTRO START/END marker.

  25. Hi I'll check that. Thanks for this information.

  26. You can uninstall any system plugin that you don't use and it is record in the system.xml so they are not reinstalled with every server update. The only way they are readded is manually or modifying your system.xml.

  27. If trying to avoid transcoding, it bears mentioning that if a user wishes to view subtitles (whether for SDH reason or foreign media such as anime), then some combinations of subtitle type and client lead to transcoding being necessary as part of burning the subtitles in at the server. Paul

  29. update 19/05/2022 So we are internally testing 0.0.2.0 now with the .40 Beta and initial impressions are good. To note, this is just a fix release to play nice with the new Core Introskip chapter format, it does not add any other functionality at this time. We have yet to test with the .60 Release version but will do so as soon as we can but believe that will have issues.

  30. Looks like I misread the info at the bottom of this page: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001160148-hardware-acceleration-overview I will say this - I was entirely unaware that you needed Premiere to enable hardware decoding, and I've looked at it multiple times. The support page does not mention this. You guys could do a lot better to advertise it in the server menus. IE "Now Playing" should tell me that I need it if I want hardware decoding. I've been looking for a good reason to support Emby!

  32. Hi, is it direct playing? If yes, then there is no way to do it, at least to my knowledge. I'll have to look through upnp docs. We could accomplish it via server transcoding but that's not even worth pursuing as the vast majority of users will be unhappy with giving up direct play just for that.

  40. Live TV presently plays great through Emby Server beta using Kodi. I have this installed on a couple laptops and it's working great for me. I just got into the Pi scene right before Christmas and now have 6 of them. One has Windows (Arm 64) installed. I can playback Live TV via Chromium on the Pi but most channels require transcoding as the video drivers still need work. If we had a Theater for Arm Windows build, I would try that but still think better video drivers are needed. I have tried Theater for Linux Debian build on Raspbian Pi, Debian Buster, Debian Bullseye, Ubuntu & DietPi in 32 and 64 builds. The 64 bit version IMHO runs a little smoother using less resources with my favorite being 64 bit DietPi OS. I'm running that for container use in ProxMox as well and have my main Emby server presently using it. I've also tested Kodi I believe on the same OSes in both 32 and 64 bit and this too works ok for me. I've not installed LibreElec or OSMC on any Pi so I have no clue how that would work. Just thinking about the changes Luke has/is making can only help these devices IMHO as it allows more consistent streams with the same handling vs the previous variations. All 6 of my Pis are the same model and configured the same. It's the high end 4B with higher clock rate and 8GB memory. Each is in an Armor case with a small NVMe drive. No need for thumb drives or Micro-SDXC memory cards this way. I installed one Pi less than 3 weeks ago in the Yukon Denali I bought my dad the previous week. He hadn't been able to drive for 2 years due to a broken hip and long rehab and this was the vehicle he could get in and out of the most comfortably without risk of falling. He was like a 17 year old with his first vehicle and everything had to be "just right". He didn't care for the OEM wheel design so I ordered new sick looking chrome wheels with tires attached so I didn't have to deal with that. Added custom running boards and a half step under it to assist him getting in and out. He always like murals on truck back windows and had to have a USMC based one so I ordered and install an Iwo Jima mural he really liked. The last thing he wasn't crazy about was the onboard Entertainment center. He kept commenting he wished it was more like our TVs (he was referring to Emby) so I loaded one of the Pi's NVMe up with movies and shows he liked as well as recordings of old time radio broadcasts he liked to listen to. Got the libraries scanned and then installed it in the truck. It could boot and be streaming in under 30 seconds from power on. Instead of trying to connect the Pi to the entertainment center I instead used a Firestick which worked well. He still had all normal functionality but hitting the AUX button switched it to Emby. I even did a mod to allow playback while driving so he could listen to his stories. He was happy and probably kidding when he said the Denali had everything but TV. I thought he was going to say "kitchen sink". After dinner I grabbed a spare HDHomeRun Quatro, small window antenna (best I had on hand), travel router and short ethernet cable. After wiring up a single 12 volt power line to feed everything I took it out and tried it. About 20 minutes later I was downloading guide data off wifi. I was mostly just goofing around and didn't think it would pull in any channels with that antenna but figured I could pickup a normal vehicle TV antenna the next day. It got 6 channels including the 2 channels he wanted for NCAA Basketball and morning shows. He was still a bit uneasy driving but I think worried about our downhill driveway with cement siding the neighbor calls the "tunnel". He would take morning coffee and toast with his walker out and sit in it watching TV. Same with lunch a couple times. He actually drove it I think 6 times before unexpectedly passing a couple days before Easter. Sorry for the long story but almost done. He was appreciate of everything of course but it wasn't the mural, deck, running lights, new wheels, custom license plate, personalized mats or other things but Emby and the spare gear he fell in love with that made it his. I shared that story as I think it shows I've done a lot of experimenting with the Pi and have used it in some unconventional ways as well as many OS and combinations. Short of not having a Windows ARM build for it to test I've really had no issues TV wise. That goes for using it as server or client using Theater or Kodi. This is all recent testing and I've only used the beta server software best I can remember. I don't know if the experience would be different on the release server or with less powerful Pis but all of my Linux setups have worked really well. If there's any particular setup you know to be a problem I could try and test it. I could limit memory and change the clock rate to match other devices as well if needed.

  41. Nice! Can you share your css setting for login screen? Thanks
    1 point
  42. It would be very nice, but it doesn't look like we will be getting it any time soon. The only solution I have that is working for now is to remove any directories in my camera upload folder that aren't my device as a nightly task. Works well enough, shouldn't need to be done though for something as simple as a damn toggle switch on the user settings page. Toggle on user settings page -> Allow Camera Uploads Mobile clients make a request to an API which tells them whether or not they have permission to upload images, if they do, let them enable it, if they don't, turn it off and prevent future uploads. A bit oversimplified but it's really not that large of a feature to implement

  43. So lets get down to the bottom of this problem. Everyone is asking that we have a way to disable the camera feature completely on server side. Which i also agree should be an option. I live in Canada but my family is down in NJ. But its not like i can drive there and show them how to disable that feature on their phone or tablets. And my dad is not very tech savvy at all. It would make it very easy to have this feature server side. Yet i still don't know why in 2 years of yes we will add that it still hasn't been put in. Seems like a very easy feature to add/or maybe even remove completely. Please feel free to explain.

  45. request: have Emby be able to read m4b chapters About half of the audiobooks I have do have chapters. I used to use $5 mp3 audiobook player pro but no need anymore on iOS since BookPlayer ($free) does everything. Only three things BookPlayer doesn't have that mp3 audiobook player pro does have are: 1) search (titles of book library). Not such a big deal since you can sort them various ways. 2) doesn't list size of m4b book 3) statistics shows last 30 days and average listening time, etc. None of those are deal breakers so I'm using the free BookPlayer even though I paid for the $5 one. Ok so from emby server if you use the iOS emby app you can download the m4b audio book and listen to it offline. Also supports streaming and resuming no problem. However, it doesn't show chapters even when fully downloaded. So a workaround is to connect via safari or any browser and navigate to the m4b audiobook on the emby server then click the ... (3 dots) and choose Download. It says view or Download. Choose download then save it to Files then open that up and open it up in BookPlayer and then I got chapters. Flacbox ($4 in-app) also can stream from wedDAV or SMB or cloud services but no m4b chapter support. So not sure if it has to read the entire file but I know it's not part of the metadata since I've stripped out all metadata and all hundreds of m4b audiobooks and the ones that have chapters still show. I strip out all metadata with MusicBrainz Picard so I can use folder based navigation and seems to work semi-decently. Anyway book player you can view the open source and see the code and see their implementation on how they read chapters for m4b https://github.com/TortugaPower/BookPlayer I'm not a coder so no idea if this is relevant or not 41A1B111226F88C500EA0400 /* Chapter+CoreDataClass.swift */, 41A1B112226F88C500EA0400 /* Chapter+CoreDataProperties.swift */, 41B2AC8D1D43CCE8005382A9 /* ChaptersViewController.swift */, 4140EA76227289B50009F794 /* Chapter+CoreDataClass.swift in Sources */, 4140EA77227289B90009F794 /* Chapter+CoreDataProperties.swift in Sources */, 41A1B139226FEDAD00EA0400 /* Chapter+AVFoundation.swift in Sources */, oops didn't see this thread. Mod: merge my post into this thread please.

  46. This has been marked "in-progress" for a very long time, but it has still not been implemented. It is important to be able to disable camera uploading not on a global level, but on a user level so that I can only allow me and my mom access to it. Any updates on when we can see this implemented?

  47. Server side disable/enable camera upload for individual users (or per device even) is a HUGE must have. I have people enabling it on their devices and all of a sudden I'm getting bombarded with photos and videos I don't want and have no way of controlling. Thank you

  48. Changes to this I'd like to see. Server option to enable/disable the feature per user added to Feature Access just like Live TV access. A slightly different storage method so it's /Camera Upload/UserName/Device ID This way the user can view any pictures of theirs from any device but not other peoples pictures. I'd not want to be responsible for little Sarah seeing Uncle Tom's junk

  49. Are there any plans to add removing commercials into Emby directly similar to Plex?
