Thanks to all for the feedback and comments!. Some options weren't easily available in NZ so I ended up with a Sony A80J 65" 4K OLED running Google TV. Despite the theoretical similarities to the 65" 4K TCL running Android TV, the performance of the OS and general interface is night and day. Starts up in a couple of seconds, is immediately ready to go and moving around the interface is very snappy. Emby works really well and is again noticeably snappier than before. I haven't had a chance to play with all the audio / video formats yet but I'm definitely not as much of a guru about those sorts of things as many on here so I'll probably just have a bit of a play with the picture settings to get the mode I like the best and then sit back and enjoy my media! It all depends on the number of episodes, disk I/O capability and CPU strength/threads. I have run on multiple instances with approx 24K episodes and it took maybe 5-6 hrs to finger print, 7-8 hrs to Detect for each instance. On a low powered NAS, days/weeks is more likely to be a realistic timeline. Partially due to this workload, we are working on the default being 'no' shows - and you add them as required, as opposed to us adding them all and you make exceptions for the ones you do not want to include.2 points

It does work on big libraries, it's just a matter of time fingerprinting and detecting everything. Depending on the size this can take a few weeks.2 points

With some help from Kanipek I added to the tool the ability to add/delete selected media to/from an existing collection and the ability to create new collections. The code is below. Let me know if this works OK. Vic EmbyTagApp06.html2 points

Changes to subtitle processing are coming up shortly. For the curious, it might be interesting to look at my recent contributions to ffmpeg. Though, not all of them may land as Emby features immediately.2 points

When I prepare media on my server, I'd like to know which devices will be able to play the media I have. This can help me determine which shows or films I should transcode before placing them on my server - and even help me choose the most compatible codecs across devices. I imagine that the devices page in the server admin control panel can be extended to show more details than it does currently (I can only change the display name right now). These details would be: Codecs supported, Video Codecs supported, Audio Subtitle formats supported Last connection time, IP (as today, just on this new page) Last user (as today) Maybe network details, like max bitrate observed? This will likely require storing extra information for each device - but I imagine that the information is "readily" available, as the Emby server+app must somehow be able to determine that transcoding is needed. I'd like to surface this information. Eventually, it'd be super awesome to have some page where I can, at a Show/Season/Episode/Movie level see which devices it will directly play on. Maybe a button to convert the media to a specific device, where codecs etc. are optimized for that device. Mike.2 points

It would be useful if the server (or perhaps clients) could cache most (if not all) content images (posters, backdrops, logos, etc) for movies, TV series and seasons. This would mainly be of benefit when a portion of someone's content is offline but the users would still like to view the content to know what exists. I think caching on the server would be preferable, then all clients could make use of the same cached images. if you think this would be a useful feature, please click the "Like This" button on this post.1 point

Hi everyone.. Lg hasn't yet created an Emby app for the 2021 models. This applies to both software version 6 and 3.20 and above. The only option to use EMBY is to run a web browser on the TV. Go to the EMBY website and log in to the server and then add the tab shortcut to the main panel of the screen. Then you can see Emby at the bottom of the screen and go straight to the EMBY server without entering your login and password again. IT WORKS, because on my LG 43UP7800 I have it done. REGARDS. Ps. I'm waiting for Emby APP from LG. Polish Language below. Lg jeszcze nie zrobił nie stworzyl aplikacji Emby dla modeli z 2021. Dotyczy to zarówno oprogramowania w wersji 6 jak i 3,20 i wyzej. Jedyna opcja żeby korzystać z EMBY, to uruchomić przeglądarke internetową w TV. POZDRAWIAM. Ps. Czekam na Emby APP od LG.1 point

Yes I added some view management into the Add-on now, it does not relay on having to know the view IDs for the skin you are using, it is a little more universal than the old approach.1 point

I'm using Letsencrypt to generate the SSL for my domain and using that in Emby. The command I use (FreeBSD 12.1 via TrueNAS12) is: openssl pkcs12 -export -out emby.domain.name.pfx -inkey emby.domain.name.key -in emby.domain.name.crt The key obv my private key. The .crt is just a rename of the fullchain.cer that acme.sh produces for Letsencrypt and my domain. Putting these into Emby as per the wiki results in a HTTPS connection for all my clients. I've blocked the http outbound from my server at the firewall just to make sure but Emby seems to respect the setting to ensure all remote clients are using HTTPS.1 point

The thing is our KB article really only has a couple steps which I will reorder. First is to have an Emby Connect setup and working for your account on your Emby Server. Besides having EC setup you're actually following Google's instructions in the link which points here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7126338?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en That really is the heart and sole of the setup. The rest of the KB article simply gives you commands to get you started and how to link the EC on first use or error. So that can be made a bit more clear but the real issue is likely the actual google info. But it too is actually pretty accurate in general. It's almost dead on for a Google phone for instance but you likely have to search to find things on a Samsung phone because the manufacture likes to change the UI to make it their own. That is likely the biggest issue and probably not a lot we can do about that as phone UI is out of our control. I most certainly will take a another shot at making the KB article more clear. I'll also see if I can get an Android emulation running on my PC which I can use to take screen shots or maybe create a short video showing the setup being done. That would probably be the best method as seeing it done will likely make it easier to understand the Google Documentation as well.1 point

Still having sync issues with 6.1.9. Have to delete DB and start over often. Seems to loose it's mind when processing updates. I'll PM the log from this AM's rebuild, which results in "processing updates:Emby - 0%" sitting at the top forever after it's finished adding the libraries. Edit: In case it's helpful, I'm seeing this problem on a PC and the same issue on a Shield tv Pro. Both seem to stop updating. I've sent PM with logs from PC, shield is also possible if needed, LMK.1 point

I had no problems installing updates to dsm 7.0.1. Make sure you are pulling the files from this page. https://emby.media/synology7-server.html On edit: It might be a good idea if the title on that page would read “Emby Server for Synology DSM7 NAS” or something to that effect.1 point

Bingo ! Now it works. If mount the network share on the operating system and than I point the library to the same place on the local disk mounted by the OS.... it works! Why such difference? Mounting from the OS it works... pointing Emby directly to the network share... it does not Anyway... I will check other test cases and report the feedback. Thanks EDITED: if this is the solution, then do I have to move all the videos different than the main movie from the main folder to the /extras subfolder, to let Emby not to pick up all the stuff not addressed by .nfo? Any other alternatives?1 point

@quickmic Thanks for looking into this. For the Young Sheldon issue, there were actually 2 duplicates listed (but only 1 orphaned nfo). So the original file was CAKES, that was replaced by PlayWeb, then that was replaced by NTb, however only the Playweb nfo remained. This same issue happened with Tacoma FD (which was only replaced once). I do have embycon installed (this way when my kids watch their content, they watch using their account vs my account, since I'm OCD). My kids are watching TV at the moment on my main TV, so as soon as they are off, I will disable embycon and try to reproduce this issue using that same Young Sheldon episode.1 point

There is an option for this, the "remember user" setting. Out of stupidity this can be only reached if you select the manual login, it should be an option in the options screen, as it is in the AndroidTV app, AFAIR. You can see, there ist really no need to have two options to change user (with or withour logout), and all this talk here is about technicals details, which the user even doesn't see or care. Countries do not have a single IP range, or even a small number of ranges. To give an idea of what this involves, see this list of IPv4 (only) ranges assigned within France: https://lite.ip2location.com/france-ip-address-ranges It may be possible with some reverse proxy software to get an add-in for "geolocation" which would enable you to do this checking in the proxy. For instance, Caddy has this: https://caddyserver.com/docs/modules/http.matchers.maxmind_geolocation which uses a free geolocation database which you download; I presume something similar is available for nginx. Note that free databases may be less accurate in detail than paid ones, and that you might be well advised to download updates of the database occasionally (the free one used by that Caddy module is updated weekly). You may need to check whether any particular chosen solution includes IPv6 (as far as I can see the Caddy one does). Paul1 point

I'm curious as to why are you constantly leaving additional video files in main movie folder, as this would be the third time I'm advising you to put all additional files in \extras: As that is likely the reason that folder gets interpreted as multi-movie folder since it doesn't have 'same' filename hence can't be multi-versioned: Additionally:1 point

And this seems like a good opportunity to plug the Subsonic API one more time. The devs wouldn't even need to worry about creating a separate app—and, thus, dividing development and support time—because with the API, you could use the dozens of Subsonic apps that already exist.1 point

@quickmic I too am having the problem that @Onana is experiencing regarding duplicate TV Show episodes showing up where only one of the episodes listed actually plays. I have been having it for quite some time (sorry, I don't know what version this started happening). I was searching through this forum for similar situations and came across the back and forth you were having with Onana, and wanted to add my 2 cents. Some background, I am running emby server on a Windows 10 Pro machine, and the duplicates are happening on an Odroid N2 running CoreELEC using E4KNG version 6.1.4 (I just realized that for some reason kodi was not auto updating my addon to latest version, however I have since updated to 6.1.9). I don't really use E4KNG on my other boxes, since the sync takes too long (since I don't turn them on all that often, so a lot of updates are needed each time I turn it on). I have had this happen multiple times, and usually I need to repair my library to get the duplicates to go away (while doing nothing else either to the episode file, nfos, etc. on disk, or to the series/episode on my emby server). I just had this happen to me to 2 more shows in the last day, Young Sheldon & Tacoma FD, and I may have discovered something. I've never seen this phenomenon happen live, but in piecing through the logs and timestamps, here is an overview of what happens: An episode is added to either a multi-season or single season TV Show (I've seen this happen to both) folder. Emby detects the change through real time monitoring and adds it to the database and creates the nfo file and if available will download the episode thumb. Both the NFO and thumb will be named after the episode file As an aside on this step, I'm not sure if this is connected, but I only remember seeing this happen with episodes where an episode thumb was originally not available when added to emby's DB, regardless if it was available after the episode was replaced. Kodi is either opened while the episode was added to emby's DB, or kodi is off while the episode was added to emby's DB and then turned on after the episode was added to emby's DB, and E4KNG's incremental sync adds the original episode to Kodi's DB A note here is that in looking at logs for 2 shows where this has just happened, I can say for certain that in one instance, Kodi was open when the original episode was added to emby and then synced to kodi, and in another instance, kodi was NOT open (my N2 was off at the time), but was turned on and opened after the initial episode was added to Kodi. In either case, the original episode was DEFINITELY added to Kodi via E4KNG incremental sync prior to the episode being replaced on the filesystem At some point after the episode was added to kodi via E4KNG (in this case, it was about 17 hours later), the episode is replaced on the filesystem Emby server detects the new file, and removes the old episode file from its DB (since it is no longer on disk), and adds the new episode file to its DB However (and this is where I think the issue is coming up) the filename of the new episode is slightly different than the original episode file. For example, the old episode in my example from today was "Young Sheldon S05E08 [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 5.1][h264]-PlayWEB.mkv", for which emby server generated an nfo file named "Young Sheldon S05E08 [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 5.1][h264]-PlayWEB.nfo". However, when the episode file was replaced, the old file was deleted, and the new episode file was called "Young Sheldon S05E08 [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 5.1][h264]-NTb.mkv" and placed in the same season folder where the old episode file was located. Emby detected the change and generated an nfo file called "Young Sheldon S05E08 [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 5.1][h264]-NTb.nfo". What I noticed however is that the old nfo was not deleted on disk by my download program, and it is still sitting in the season folder. So now I have an episode file called "Young Sheldon S05E08 [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 5.1][h264]-NTb.mkv", and nfo file named "Young Sheldon S05E08 [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 5.1][h264]-NTb.nfo", and ANOTHER nfo (associated with the old, now deleted episode file) named "Young Sheldon S05E08 [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 5.1][h264]-PlayWEB.nfo" Emby seemingly ignores this extra nfo, however it appears that somehow E4KNG does not, because for every show that this happens, and for every episode that I can remember this happening with over the last few weeks, I'm seeing duplicate nfo files with slightly different names, like the example above, on my file system. For all of those episodes, emby server only lists one episode, but every one of those episodes was listed as a duplicate in kodi by E4kNG. Like I mentioned, if I leave my file system and emby server alone (i.e. leaving the duplicate nfos) and just repair the kodi library using E4KNG, the duplicates episode listings in kodi go away, even though the duplicate nfo files are still present on the system. Attached is a log from emby from that day (you can search for the filenames to see the relevant bits in the log, since I don't want to exclude anything in case it is important):embyserver-63774172801.txt And here is a link to kodi where I tried to play the broken episodes, and then ultimately played the episode that worked: kodi.log Hopefully there is something in here that would help you identify a test case to duplicate this issue.1 point

Yes from my provider i have a link to a php file with a code for my user, this complete link i just copy into the URL field for the m3u file and it works in emby. I don't have the m3u local on the pc so they can always update it online when they add new channels etc.1 point

Yes and no. If you have the URL of the file/stream itself this can be done. If it's a web page like Youtube pages, then no as of right now. This is done using strm files. https://emby.media/support/articles/Strm-Files.html Here's an example with an old black and white movie that is no longer copyrighted. Amazing Transparent Man, The (1960).strm Just a simple one line file that is nothing but the direct link to the media. PS so if you dropped that into a movie folder with the proper folder name to match the file name, emby would add it to the movie library with any meta-data it can find, just like any other media. Only difference is that Emby won't fetch the remote movie to look up codec, time/length etc so you won't have that data until it's first played (then you will have that too). strm files work really well for some types of content. Hope that helps, Carlo1 point

This already happens where possible. If they are SRT/TXT based and embedded (a stream in the MP4/MKV), then in the transcode settings ensure '"Allow subtitle extraction on the fly" is enabled but read the warning. Graphical subtitles can never be extracted on the fly, as this would need OCR - so they are simply burnt in during the forced transcode. The absolute best way to ensure no transcoding with subtitles (ie Direct Play), is to external SRT based subtitles - either got from external sources, or extracted using dedicated OCR applications such as Subtitle Edit and then saved as external SRT.1 point

If I remember this correctly I think it will work using non secured ports but for some features you must have secured ports setup using only port 443. This would be needed in order to have Emby playback media directly on the device itself. Now that this is back in the store working again, I would like to try and expand the KB area on this and clarify (after testing) things like this.1 point

The native TV apps will support less codecs than an external box, but some TVs are worse than others. For instance, both LG and Samsung have now dropped DTS so that will require conversion if you bought either of those. If codec support matters to you it may be a good idea to download the user's manual and compare.1 point

Scott, I also am using a Pi 3 as an Emby client, albeit with the Debian image, and I've found that a few changes in the raspi-config really made a difference. You may have already tried these so I apologize if I'm repeating anything. 1. Increase the GPU memory to 128 or 256. 2. Enable the "Fake KMS" driver. To do this go to Advanced Options, GL Driver, enable "Fake KMS". Note, this may kill HDMI audio, but there is a fix for that. You would have to modify the /boot/config.txt file with the below changes, then selecting the second choice for audio in raspi-config (in my case it was MAI PCM i2s-hifi-0). # uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in # DMT (computer monitor) modes hdmi_drive=2 hdmi_force_edid_audio=1 Hope this helps.1 point

I've been using emby on desktop for music lately (web browser and theatre app). My biggest complaint is the play queue. When you reach the end of the play queue, it just disappears. It would be nice if the music stopped but the play queue remained intact so that I could restart or save it as a playlist. Oh. another nice feature would be to have cool visualizations like winamp had back in the day. Then I would play music on my home theatre during parties.... when we can have parties again... if we are ever allowed to have parties again :s1 point
