OK, I'm not going to do a migration, but I can add a hidden config switch to activate this if that's what you guys want. You'll need to move the files manually after activating it and then run the scheduled task to scan the server metadata folder. This can also be default behavior for new installations.4 points

It doesn't work that way right now for the "virtual items" but it should IMHO. I don't think there is any other way to read that page and come away with different thinking.2 points

IMHO the Access control tab could use a revamping. If a user isn't given access to any component on that page then they have zero access to that content! Maybe there should be another section between Library Access and Channel Access. This would be for "virtual libraries". The following 3 items could be part of that group: Playlists Collections Recording Library If a user doesn't have the option enabled then they don't every see the library or it's contents just like Movies & TV Show libraries. It's strictly access control vs arrangement of home screen items. This way we have Library Access - true libraries Virtual Libraries - virtual libraries built off of data for items in real libraries. Playlists, Collections and DVR Recording library. Channel Access - The different plugins installed on Emby that provide content.2 points

No worries, I'll not drop native mode, but probably Kodi 18 support. But not in near future. Maybe when Kodi 20 is out.2 points

@Luke, if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. If I untick Playlists in any User setting Access tab, where it is listed alongside other libraries and folders and where unticking means no access, yes, I expect it to do exactly that. Not "Hide from Home Screen". Disable access.2 points

I know the answer to this is probably going to be no..... ...but.... A standalone music player for iOS would be very useful. Trying to get the wife to use the full client for music is just not happening. Something that was simple and intuative and quick and easy to use would be killer, something like spotify. The simpler the app is to use, the better. If all else fails, I have a project that's on the back burner that was an iOS music player for subsonic, but I could always target emby as well. It had an spotify a-like interface. Screenshot from as far as I got with the UI, it was playing back music from the server.1 point

Hello, Perhaps I am not the first one to ask this question but it will be very cool if this feature could be implemented. I have 2 servers one at home and the other at work. ( and soon a third one...) So I have a movies library called movies on each server. I would like to see all the movies from a single 'virtual server location' when I use the app (ios or android ) where I will see only one movies library containing movies informations from the movie library at work and the movie library at home. It's an aggregation of movies informations from the movie library at work and the movie library at home. In fact when a user have multiple servers it will be perfect if another choice in the server list called "all servers" for example appears automatically with a merge of media informations from librairies with the same name on different servers.1 point

Added the first movie of a Collection Collection was successfully created on update with the 1 movie in it I have the kodi option "Show collections with only 1 movie" turned on (if it matters) Added 3 more movies of this collection and noticed they weren't in the collection Ran refresh box set option in emby-for-kodi The 3 movies went into the collection for a total of the 4 Noticed that an old collection consisting of 8 movies was now completely gone. All movies were lying flat in the library. Reran refresh box set 8 movie collection was now correct again 4 movie collection returned to the state described in #3 (first movie in collection, 3 outside). All of these appear as expected in the emby library. Very strange.1 point

It would be nice if we had some additional features with the Podcast plugin. For instance it would be nice for us to set a download location and have it setup as a library. This way you can pick a file path for the episodes along with choosing who had access to it or not.1 point

@HawkXP71 You should make a scheduled task in Synology to do this on every reboot (of the NAS, not Emby), then you shouldn't encounter any problems in the future1 point

Ah okay Sam, it looks like Emby is not aimed at behaving like a PVR, but more like a media server with recording capabilities, which is not really what I'm after :-(. (Which is really where it comes from really) I wish SageTV and Emby would combine their efforts, we would have an Awesome system. Thanks heaps for your help in explaining how it works, it's just not going to work for me. Cheers, Fraser1 point

Missing Batman episodes....... Here are the log files from the start of the scan and completion of the scan. This the issue of the TV show, not showing any series even after a few scans. It shows the addon scanning the episodes of Batman, but they do NOT show up under TV Titles. See previous photos. There is already a Hide Collections and Playlist setting under user Home Page settings which I like because I prefer just using the headers for those under the other libraries. So this is kind of redundant and doesn't function the way it reads to a lot of people. What I really need is a way to prevent users from deleting my Playlists from clients which have that button for everyone1 point

If you're not in a hurry and can wait a couple of weeks I'm going to do some testing again of various setups using the 2 TB NVMe I have in the Synology 920+. This test will use the conventional Synology setups which can include 1TB read/write cache 2 TB read only cache I'm also going to retest mounting the NVMe(s) as storage volumes instead of cache using SSH and the command line as Synology DSM is built on Linux Then I'm also going to try something a bit different and take a 2.5 Samsung Pro SATA drive and attach it to the Synology 920+ by SATA and by USB3. For the last two configurations mentioned (being their own volume) I'll manually configure different Emby features to store content on the mounted volume. This could include: Cache Folder Meta-Data Transcoding Conversions Path Depending on how that goes I could possibly add in using Symbolic links to actually move the whole Emby Server folder to the NVMe/SDD volume. I can already do all the above but what I'm trying to think of is how to test/measure performance for real-world Emby use to see how much each of these helps. I have a few ideas for some tests but I'd like to hear other's feedback on what to test. Some things could be subjective like how fast graphics load so while that will be observed it would be nice to be able to time this in some fashion (maybe using API). With the different caching methods it would be interesting to see how each would do for transcoding. Would one method support more transcodes? Another test might be to see how many DVR recordings can be done simultaneously maybe with one or two live viewing going on as well. So if you have any ideas let me know.1 point

Haha. Is that really a button? Why are there 3 different styles of button with different colours and sizes on a single screen? It doesn't strike me as great design or help with the user experience? Oh, and the trailer when it plays and you rotate the screen, still only sizes to half of the screen1 point

I'll use v5 it's the one that served me best with the little problem of plain password but everything is all good1 point
-
Just a quick update Sam, I have now upped the bitrate setting on the TV's app to 4k 120Mbs and it seems to have stopped the transcoding, however now the skipping forward and back is really slow and results in a spinning circle for 5 - 10 seconds, and sometimes the app crashes and does nothing but a black screen.1 point

Yep, I'll fix it in next version. This happens on "fresh" installations or when settings are wiped. Nothing to worry, just annoying the wizard-msgs.1 point

Hi, yes I'm not quite sure of the problem as it's happening within ffmpeg. The upcoming Emby Server 4.7 will be updating to a newer ffmpeg build so there's a decent chance that will help with this.1 point

Logs do not show but the hard coded fallback value is only used when the server/client can not determine the connection speed is my understanding. So this conservative rate gives Auto a bad name.1 point

For those that don't want to install a new jail, there's a workaround that works currently. Install your emby update like normal but also with the latest mono: service emby-server stop pkg update -f pkg upgrade # install latest mono for requirement pkg install mono6.8 # install latest emby from https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases pkg add -f https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/download/4.7.0.13/emby-server-freebsd12_4.7.0.13_amd64.pkg Substitute emby-server with whatever service name you have, alternatively `ps aux` will show you running processes so you can identify and kill emby with it's PID (command is `kill` then the PID number). If you start emby here, it won't connect to anything. To fix it: # lock emby so you don't get dependency errors pkg lock emby-server # install mono 5.2 over mono6.8 pkg install mono5.20-5.20.1.34 # unlock emby so you can update later pkg unlock emby-server service emby-server start And it should work without a hitch. This likely won't work eventually as newer mono features are utilized, but it's been flawless for me on all the latest emby versions. You'll have to do this each time you update, but it's probably faster than reinstalling (in the short term anyway).1 point

It would definitely have to be optional and probably default off but under those conditions it is possible. We used to have this as standard and a lot of the feedback we got was basically "why is a random item from my collection consuming so much space on my home screen?". For services trying to entice you into watching/buying something, these spotlights make a lot of sense. For a personal media server, not quite as much IMO.1 point
