  1. I mean softworkz has a point.... you say: What doesn't work, is using SQLite over NFS (locking issues). It's nothing new. Before I started using Emby, I checked its requirements - there was no stated requirement its data needs to be on a local storage. And indeed, it used to work without many issues in the past. sqlite over nfs doesn't work and its "nothing new" yet you checked the requirements and had to see emby uses sqlite, and already knowing you cant use it on nfs installs, still seem surprised that its "requirements don't mention that data needs to be on local storage". In your buying a car example that's like looking at the sticker for the car, buying it, then bringing it back saying it doesn't fly.... But the sticker doesn't say anything about this car not being able to turn into an airplane and fly... No duh... why would you think that? we never said the car could fly... Just like emby never claimed the DB can be ran over NFS. Has someone done that? maybe... can someone make a car fly, sure.. But that's outside of the scope of how either the car or emby was originally designed. I want a beefier DB like most people on this thread, but the argument you are trying to make isn't valid, emby is made to be installed on a single machine and run for home users. when you do the install for emby server, is there anywhere in the setup that says "would you like to install the DB on a network drive?"? NO, because that's not how its meant to be used. It's a want, I want it to, but we wait until more than a 100 or so hard-core users want the feature.. the other 98% want other things like new live tv features etc.. Those things are higher in priority due to the majority wanting/needing them. I'm sure they will look into a more robust DB soon enough.. and if not.......

  2. @Luke any chance we could get the missing library types added here to help rectify this problem?

  4. The system.xml has SortRemoveWords. <SortRemoveWords> <string>the</string> <string>a</string> <string>an</string> <string>das</string> <string>der</string> <string>el</string> <string>la</string> </SortRemoveWords> You can shutdown Emby and make adjustments if you like, then start Emby and Refresh your Libraries reprocess the sort order.

Proof of concept: We have tested the proof of concept and are now continuing to expand the platform, which is of course linked to Emby. Tested functionality and implemented; Connect users with external dashboard (connect uid's) Link devices to user Make groups / invite other users Sync video with each other or group Resync in group Groupchat Possible ideas Discord connection (chat, sync, profile pictures) Discord auto voicechannel (only users who are in the group) Share this dashboard with the community Dashboard: Join room (select device): Active group session with chat: Will be updated!

  6. Hello, I have a folder that I have many videos and photos of the kids growing up. I also have a profile for the family that says to not show the content if the rating of the file is missing. Because of this the kids cannot see the home videos and photos without me individually selecting the hundreds of files and updating the Metadata. As my "Parent" account I can see all. Is there a way to update metadata recursively? Could we add an option to a Library to mark them all as a parent rating of what we want them to be? Thank you.

  15. Emby does not provide any content, it is a personal media server. Here you have a couple of guides to accomplish this task: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/folders/44000764515 https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159319-library-setup

  18. Yeah, the app wouldn't make any difference as we're talking about CoverArt here. I'm assuming this is related to the music changes in 3.6. Albums are now virtual items so they no longer have a path and, thus, don't satisfy that restriction in CoverArt. The solution would be to configure the "Album" treatment as "Ignore".

  19. @cayars hello, i was in emby's default video settings because the mode "auto" is not working well. So I had a quality of 3 mbps and the reason for transcoding is that the bitrate exceeds. The tv is however wired. I finally found by going higher than 720p 1.5mbps the other quality choices appear!

  20. Hi, It could be interesting to add either to the server or to the client, the option for the ordering of titles to take into account or not the articles (the, a, an, el, las, der, die, das, ...) Regards,

  21. Are these AAC soundtracks authored by somebody else in addition to the normal AC3 or DTS tracks ? I'm curious, as I add a Stereo AAC soundtrack to all my media for compatibility reasons and make it the primary track - and I do not have any issues at all - dialogue is very clear. -c:a:0 aac -ac 2 -filter:a:0 "volume=1.4" With ffmpeg, you can actually boost individual channels if you wish - but all I do is boost all channels by 40% to get it to the same dB level as the original AC3 or DTS soundtrack.

  25. Emby server, 4.7 beta. I think I will give up running from the Android box. It doesn't work very well and I am unable to stream video from it via a samba share to a client. It indexes fine but I cant play anything. The ninkbox is more trouble than its worth and not very customisable.

  30. Just take out that [Documentary] folder out of parent TV Shows folder and put it next to it, i.e. same level, and then add that path to your library settings. So, your TV Shows library should consist of /TV Shows/ folder and /[Documentary]/ folder separately.

  31. you are correct. firestick does have some sort of tonemapping built in that shield I believe does not do. i've tested a couple HDR videos on an old display that has not HDR functionality (heck it only supports 1080p too). Firestick plays HDR videos with tonemapping with slightly dim brightness overall, but the colors are definitely not washed out as if you are playing HDR on SDR display without any sort of tone mapping. Def. a win for those who don't want to deal with transcoding + tonemapping from the server. This is true when you play videos directly from Kodi too and so it is nothing to do with Emby but simply how Firestick handles HDR contents.

  32. Well technically the "Episode x" naming scheme is not supported. And my guess would be all episodes are being grouped into a single multi-versioned episode. Do you see a version drop down list when you enter the episode as you can see the "1988" is being used for Season/Episode? Is there a reason to have year in episode naming as it is not used in folder title? But overall the naming scheme needs to be adjusted and possible season folders depending on selected naming schemes.

  35. no, i chuck the case after removing the disks. mostly because i can't be bothered being careful when i remove the disk so usually damage the case. just return them in an electromagnetic bag and a box with packaging to stop it moving around too much. both times they have sent me back a disk in the external case to be honest the first time i was half expecting them to deny me a RMA but no questions were asked

  41. You can already edit the list of ignored articles to allow you to incorrectly alphabetize your titles if you like. Edit the SortRemoveWords values in the SYSTEM.XML file on your Emby server. Soon you can effortlessly have all out movies starting with 'The' down in the Ts until a librarian smacks you firmly with a rolled up dictionary.

  42. Try 10 or 100 stars. (People who really like rating things generally enjoy granularity.) And just make it a per user option. Sure hardly anyone will use it, but there must be other options hardly anyone uses.

  44. First off I like to say I believe Emby has what it takes to potentially beat Plex. The way Emby is intended to work is far better laid out. I enjoy the idea of using my own ssl cert and using my own domain name. I love the layout and how the subtitle system works. In fact I love just about everything about Emby but one major issue that kills it all. Your Streaming is completely unstable, unpredictable, lags, has buffer issues and apps clients aren’t updated enough to keep up with the changes of the Emby Server. Now I know some folks on the forum will defend Emby even if I’m right but those folks need to stay out of it because I’m not even talking to you. I paid my 120 bucks so I bought the right to give whatever feedback I like. What I have to say is directed to the code writers and not anyone else anyhow. I have had Emby off and on for a bit over 2 years. I say I had Emby off and on because I would ask for my money back because the flaws were so bad the product was unusable. Since those times it is still relatively unusable now. Long load times in Emby Theater and rarely on Firefox but still needs improvement. Emby server is easily confused when multiple request/commands come through and it will lag and/or sometimes crash. Sometimes Emby will just ignore commands completely but that doesn’t happen very often but I have seen it in action. So then I go to the forum and complain and I get the same’ol wrong answers and that is it’s never the fault of Emby and the issue is always pushed back to my equipment or my network and no one ever says, “Emby is having problems and were working on it”. Emby pushing issues back to the user doesn’t get the issues fixed. So I have known for some time the issues were not on my end at all but proving it can be hard to do because software, hardware, network, and the environment its running in are all factors. So as said I know the issue is not on my end I came to the conclusion after doing extension system upgrades, using kodi and using my ftp server with steady streaming. Other streaming software as well had no issues but when I come back to Emby, it’s a complete hell. The final nail in the coffin is 3 days ago when I bought a lifetime subscription to Plex and tried it. Well I am very happy to report that all my people that have been trying to stream from me no longer have any issues. Plex’s subtitle system sucks but everything else works like a charm. So at least the primary function of Plex works well which is streaming as Emby doesn’t even have that right. Yes Transcoding was turned off by the client and the server and I had no issues on Plex. However, if streaming was working properly on Emby then Emby would be far more superior. The thing is the features do not mean jack shit unless the primary function of the server is working perfectly meaning no long buffering, connections are fast stable and consistent (between all clients and browsers), and buffering is fast consistent and aggressive. Problems with Emby I’m currently experiencing. Unstable connectivity (long time to connect or won’t connect at all) with users externally connecting to the server using Emby Theater 2.9.6 or hardware devices like Nvidia Shield and Roku 4/Ultra. Likely due to all the changes to Emby server possibly breaking some compatibility as 2.9.6 has been out awhile and server has changed quite a bit Minor connectivity issues via the browser but 90 percent of the time its fine. Firefox 57.0.4 64 bit. The reaction is the same starting the movie as with Emby theater but as stated in firefox the issue is dramatically less of an issue. Inconsistent connectivity meaning it may start fine but the stream is unsteady and eventually skips or stalls out. Slow starting of movie 80 percent of the time no matter the size or bitrate. Rarely the movie will start quickly and sometimes it won’t play at all and will stall. Now this is more of a missing feature but is up with the fast forward only moving 1-1 ½ minutes per press? What if I wanted to fast forward 52 minutes into the moving? Does that mean I have to press the FF button roughly 35 times?, ridiculous Now I’m referring to the Android version of the Emby client for the Nvidia Shield TV 2017. I do NOT use transcoding as I see no need for it. As fiber reaches more homes and is installed in more places transcoding is less of a need. On mobile network 4G pushes up to 60mbps (real world) and when 5G hits its suppose to get gigabit speeds so worst case scenario at least 300mbps and even on a fringe connection 40mbps should be very achievable. So again transcoding is becoming a dying need so please optimize the Emby server better for high bitrate 1080p (30mbps) and 4k video 60mbps with no transcoding. No reason to be putting an unnecessary load on the processor not to mention wear and tear, or even on a GPU. So here are the specs: Currently at the time of writing I am using Emby Beta 3.2.70.2 Server is on a static IP with a domain name and DDOS protection. Domain service has 17 redundant systems for speed and reliability. Computer runs Windows Server 2012 Datacenter (legit copy) I7-2600k with 32 gigs of g skill ddr3 2400Mhz ram @ 1600Mhz. I run fast memory slower for stability and reliability. The processor is far more than enough for streaming without transcoding. Mushkin 512gb SSD and 4x2tb Hitachi enterprise raid capable drives in Raid 0 for speed of Local internal drive storage. I have a fiber internet connect 250mbps up and 1gbps down using a Nokia ONT. Server is on a switch connect directly to the ONT which is a Netgear SMB JGS516PE I think my specs are far more than enough to run the Emby software quite well. I’m sure others have far more impressive machines but this is nothing to laugh at either. Also you’re more than welcome to ignore me but keep this in mind. People don’t like change when something works work and Plex is working very well with no issues. When people are happy it builds the brand which means people won’t want to consider using Emby if the issues aren’t resolve right away and Emby loses money. Even though Emby is donationware you still need the money to keep moving forward. I also like to say I bought a new Nvidia Shield and love the device and everything works awesome on it and even Emby works fantastic if the goal is for it to crash 2-3 times a week. No other app has crashed since I have owned the Nvidia Shield except for Emby. Plex hasn’t crash not even one time yet. I don’t use On-The-Fly transcoding and never will and I think the biggest issue is it seems Emby isn’t putting effort in optimizing streaming and playback for those who do not want to use transcoding On-The-Fly. Please improve Emby server and the supporting clients such as Emby theater and others to working properly and reliably without the transcoder being used. Finally the last I hear the limitations of Emby were quite restrictive and should readjust them as your competitor Plex has a limit of 15 home devices (DLNA) but you get to create up to 100 user accounts and each account is allowed to have up to 20 concurrent streams. So at this time overall Plex is the better deal. P.S. I know you may ask for a log and will give you one in a couple days. However, once you receive the log then I’m done. Meaning I will not follow up with you I’m too busy to play “Software Tester” So unless you’re putting me on the payroll a log is the best you’re getting.
