  1. This is not true. The native Apple TV player cannot direct play MKVs, it needs to stream using HLS. Apple TV requires HLS fMP4 for HEVC, which does not support Emby and then the content is transcoded. Using the MPV player you can play MKV HEVC HDR but using tone mapping. It does not support DTS and requires a remux that causes the same glitches. The only way to get perfect playback is to use Infuse which supports Emby.

  4. My TV default region isn’t USA nor UK. What I did is change the region to USA with a button combinations on the remote after resetting the samsung apps hub. Done, no more problems with the app.

  5. At least they have modified the law and allow breaking the copy protection of the discs, as long as the copy is for own private use. Share with friends in streaming totally prohibited. I guess this is very similar in all parts of the world.

  6. Thank you, @cayars - I already tried that and it didn't work. Emby kept acting like a brand new install. I started fresh and 'm not regretting it. It's giving me the chance to easily do some needed re-organizing along the way. As for the Roku app - it worked like a charm on the first try!

  8. I wanted a colorful, but minimalist set of Library and Genre icons for when I'm using Emby on Roku, and something that stood out dramatically from the movie posters and thumbs. Here's what I did for the My Media set. Here's my Movie Genres: And the Series Genres RAR file attached with the full set as PNGs, and there is some in the archive not shown above (like Sports and Adult). Enjoy! -Mickey EmbyIcons_v4.rar

  9. Could you allow users to customize the order of movies in collections instead of only having it by alphabetical or by release date? Example: I want to have a collection of Batman movies, both animated and motion pictures but want the motion pictures together followed by all the animated ones. With the current order options, this isn't possible. Thanks!

  11. I'm new to Emby. Installed Appvalley on my Ubuntu server today (docker) and love it compared to Plex. Installed the Android app a https://vlc.onl/ nd can play all content no issue. My wife tried the same on iPhone and hits the paywall. The Emby site suggests both apps should have the paywall. Any idea how i'm able to play back content on the Android app for free? 12. So I've seen an increasing number of threads highlighting the limitations of LG's (and other manufacturers) decision to only use a 100Mbit Ethernet port. While this provides perfectly acceptable throughput for internet based 4K streaming, on high quality native (REMUX) 4K movies streamed locally from Emby - this bandwidth is sometimes not sufficient. My C8 only has USB 2.0 (again, on a very expensive 2018 TV - really LG?) but even on half duplex, this should be ~200 Mbps, better than the 100 Mbps of the Ethernet. So I purchased an Anker USB 3.0 to Gig Ethernet adapter (Model A7610) - plugged it into the USB 2.0 Port on the TV, turned on the TV and it worked first time ! Ethernet connection is now 1 Gig, but of course as the TV only has USB 2.0 - an nperf/fast.com speedtest is only getting 170 Mbps down - but that is still a significant improvement over 100Mbps Ethernet which only gets about 94 Mbps on the same speedtest. Interestingly, you have to turn OFF both the wifi and ethernet (disable the port/unplug) for it to work - but everything works just fine thus far. I'm about to download the jellyfish 4K bitrate files to see at what point it breaks - but @ 170 Mbps - I think I'll be safe for a while. I'll update this thread with the results.

  14. They should act the same. Are you saying they are not? @EmeyWhatson From the looks of things you are an incredibly honest and good person. You want to know why it is allowing you something you should normally need to pay for. Thank you for bringing this to attention. @ebr I mean this in the most sincere way. Usually people are prone to take advantage. Thank you for being who you are. You are made of the good stuff.

  17. Thanks @chef It's a pretty simple concept tbh - I use an XML parser to extract the file path\location out of a normal playlist.xml file (stored in ..\programdata\data\playlists) and dump it to a .txt file which is just a list of unc filepath/names. This is then used as the input for the strm file creation (link to the real file) and it copies the necessary metadata along with it into the pre-created 'User Recommended' subfolder as part of the 'Recommendations' library. So you just permission up the relevant subfolder for that user - add the Recommendations library' to the top of their library list - and bingo, out pops user created recommendations based on whatever was in that playlist. The beauty is the STRM files match the watched status of the real file - so as they are watched, they drop off the recommendation list It probably should also remove it from the playlist, but doesn't currently. The script to create the strm files runs on a windows schedule. recommendations.zip My early (poor) proof of concept code plus xml.exe is in the attached zip if you want to see if you can rescue it into something workable lol - I am no developer haha. In sequence - the xml_to_txt file parses the playlists, then pl_to_strm creates the files in the correct library. Emby does the rest. I'm not sure if smart playlists or this functionality is on the Horizon but this sure would make a good plugin in the interim but I don't have the skills to do this - thus resorting to batch files .. If you like the idea and want to run with it for a proper plugin - then you certainly have my blessing.

  20. yes I did try remuxing with mkvtoolnix, and also also removed the subs, just in case. Had the same result. This is one of the lower bit rate 4k HDR files I have and it occurs also on files from other services. Only occurs on direct play, on other files with TrueHD/ATMOS it will directsream(Video-direct and Audio-Transcode) it will play fine. just not direct AC3 or EAC3 with 4k HDR. Which is odd.

  25. There are very restrictive countries regarding copyright, one of them is Spain. The day that technology allows it, they will implant sensors in our eyes and every time we watch a movie they will make us pay. Obviously this leads to the highest piracy levels in the world.

  26. And you probably live in an area where it's legal to record and keep TV programs/movies you record. But as @vdatanet pointed out this isn't the case world wide as many countries have very strict laws on this type of thing.

  31. Thanks for all the help everyone. I must have spent 6 hours trying to get Emby to recognize this drive. It finally does and not sure what I did to fix it. The last thing I did was I noticed the recycle.bin file was corrupt. Did a disk cleanup to remove it. I then removed all permissions to the drive. Then applied permissions to everyone. I must have done the last two steps 5 times to no avail but now Emby can read it. I guess it was because of the corrupt file.

  39. 4K is UHD. 1080P is FHD. 720P is HD. There needs to be an FHD and UHD, along with HD. 720P and 1080P are lumped together presently under HD. Eventually there needs to be "4K UHD" and "8K UHD" available to separate those variety in UHD format. The Olympics are going to be broadcast in full 8K UHD.

  40. Because I like Emby more than Plex, and Infuse is enough to make up for the shortcomings of the Emby app for Apple TV. Also I use Emby for Android TV and the application is much better than Plex.

  41. When implemented properly, regional pricing does not cause to lose revenue, but enables actual positive revenue in affected regions. Do you mean that developers made it impossible to pay one time to remove the ads because LG marketplace would then require a certain cut from such transactions? And it's impossible to introduce a separate license scheme for people who just want to remove the nag screen? I couldn't understand this sentence. But regional pricing has little to do with conversation rates. It seems not many people understand what regional pricing is really about. Maybe you meant that in order to provide any regional pricing you'd have to spend too much resources to implement a system that would allow it.

  42. I'm sorry if any of that sounded rude? I'm not moaning. Many hours of work is what I totally understand. Am I expecting it for free? That would have been great, sure. But really, having it for free with certain details hidden is not a very good deal. I was told I can have a "Full Playback" on my LG TV. I was not told that there will be nags. I was not told how often I'm going to see them. I was not present with an option to get rid of those nags without paying a monthly subscription that is clearly not priced properly in some regions. I was not told if it was going to ever change. I'm glad that someone is able to pay $120 for a lifetime license. I'm not going to be able to afford that much, considering it's a software license tied to 3rd party servers that can shut down randomly and permanently (or can get a random permanent block from my government). You can suggest me to get a life, to get a job, to get a better country, any time you like. But it won't solve similar issues for everyone affected. I see 2 possible things to make it less of a problem: 1. Disable the nag screen in the client application for affected platforms until a proper way of removing it permanently via one time transaction is implemented for those platforms. 2. Come up with a proper regional pricing to make your software affordable. For me, current price tag is the same as a "we don't want your money" tag. Also, informing users about nag screen would be great. Just in case. No, I'm not asking to follow my advice. Just sharing thoughts about how this can be solved properly, in case creators have any interest in listening to users' opinions.

  43. That's also my point if you read my text. There is no option to pay one time to unlock the functionality. Even if the functionality is as simple as "disable nag screens". Therefore they expect us to pay for subscription, and have nags disabled as long as they get money from us. It's not about content being legal or not. I'm telling that I can have a subscription with high quality legal content for the same price, curated and updated regularly. I should not be asked to pay the same price in order to stream my own content on my own TV. Yes, I appreciate the ability to use nice server and client software applications, and I may be okay with a one time donation that unlocks extra features. But instead I'm being asked to pay for a subscription, otherwise I will be seeing nag screens with undisclosed frequency. No offense. You seem to use this sentence quite often here. My guess is that users expect to hear something else, something more detailed or more honest. For example "Sorry, we are going to solve this soon, please follow this topic to get notified when it's done." or "Sorry, we have no plans to change current behavior. Please consider paying for subscription."

  44. Well this is frustrating. 1. Nowhere it says that a client application should and will nag about premium subscription. Also no information about how often it's going to happen. "No nags" is not even a listed feature of the subscription. I believe it should be explained here https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001173099-emby-premiere-feature-matrix and here https://emby.media/premiere.html 2. The pricing is outrageous, even though I understand it's not much for some people. But whoever came up with it has no idea about appropriate regional pricing. For ~$5 at my place I can get a premium TV/movies subscription with HD/4k quality. For ~$1 I can get a TV subscription with HD quality. 3. Emby server/client does not provide any content. Yet a non-paying user is going to be nagged about premium subscription, just like another user who have been paying for several months but stopped. 4. I will not be paying $5 each month. Not even one month, already because I will be nagged even after you get my money. Let the client application hear me - I will not pay, and you get nothing from me waiting for another 10 seconds, except more of my anger and frustration. I hate to pay even for Android apps, but I'm more likely to pay one time to disable ads and nags in some Android app that I like.

  45. Hi Could you please add add a db service like goodreads.com (they have and IPI) or something that could identify and download images and metadata for ebooks and audiobooks by name like movies and series? Thanks

  46. Ok, resolved as follows: 1. installed ALL Windows 7 Updates 2. Did a clean restart of my machine 3x 3. On the 3rd restart, I right clicked on the icon by the clock and exited from Emby 4. Downloaded the latest Emby server and it successfully installed I think the mistake I was making after my previous clean restarts was double clicking on the Emby icon (by habit) which probably puts a hold of some sort on the folder structure and prevents the update from occurred. Cheers fellas, I really appreciate all the attentive help. Happy to be a premier member, am extremely appreciative for all you guys do.
