Both of these should be addressed in the next beta of the app.2 points

Hi @Luke Good News!. I use style tags as well. Currently I have been using the emby custom tag feature for styles. To eliminate any UI changes, I would be happy if emby could read embedded "style" tags and just add them as an "emby" custom tag value. For example embedded tag "Style: Bop; Hard Bop" (a couple of Jazz styles) emby "tag" Bop. emby "tag" Hard Bop with emby being tag driven it would add greater portability/permanence to music related info as it would be embedded in the track. style is pretty common across many music genres, so would have broad use. But could also allow user's to create their own "tags value" that emby from the track. To simplify things even further I have noticed that emby writes custom tags to nfo's with the "style" designation. to recap: 1) no UI changes, use emby's "tag" framework. 2) no db changes 3) no nfo changes 4) change - read embedded style tag map to internal emby "tag" Anyway just one opinion. Thanks for consideration -vicpa2 points

Yes you can jump ahead in versions without too much trouble, it's going backwards that we don't recommend. We'll be releasing 4.6.4 in the next day or two so you can also just wait for that.2 points

Unless I'm being a bit blind (highly possible!), I'd love a way to hide a couple of the top green navigation items without hacking it in myself. For example, in Movies I don't want the 'Trailers' item to appear for any profile and for TV I don't need the 'Upcoming' nav link. Obviously not a major issue but thought it would be a nice thing to have, perhaps allowing them to be re-ordered like the home page items but again just a nice extra,1 point

While Emby already has recommendations built in based on previously watched items I find they are not all that helpful. They seem to be based on genre only, for example, because you watched a comedy here are other comedies in your library. I do like how the also directed by/appear in recommendations work though. What would be great is if Emby could incorporate Trakt's recommendations as they are much more sophisticated. Trakt's recommendations are not only based off of what you have previously watched but also what your Trakt friends and other Trakt users have watched. It takes user ratings and trending/popular media into account. Ideally Emby would include full Trakt integration allowing users to rate media after watching, view lists and recommendations, and view upcoming media all from within Emby but for now I think recommendations would be a nice addition. Trakt has the potential to give Emby that community feel and allow users to discover new media, find something to watch, and recommend media to other users. http://docs.trakt.apiary.io/#reference/recommendations1 point

I know a lot of people use versions for things like HD/HDR/3D/mobile versions etc ... however I use versions exclusively for different editions of the same movie, so for things like extended edition, directors cut etc. Most of the time things like run time and even ratings change. However, these changes are not reflected when selecting a different version. It would be nice if they did change. As well, it would be great if somehow we could set the default. For example Tree of Life and Deadpool 2 default to their extended editions, and I'd prefer if all my movies defaulted to theatrical versions and then I can change them from there. Thanks.1 point

Please read this post first. I was wondering if it would be possible to add something that would allow you to skip the intro to shows automatically while binge watching. When watching Netflix it does this for some shows, and im not sure if thats a feature of Netflix itself or a Chrome extension i use called "Flix Assist" but it would be a nice feature to have within Emby as well. and possibly even create a custom timed skip for specific shows1 point

I am just trying the Podcasts plug-in and have a quick question on the image handling. should the image for the Podcast pass down to the individual episode or not? the couple of feeds I’ve added both have images but the individual episodes do not. I know I can manually add them but it would be great if the image from the stream was inherited if no individual episode image exists.1 point

As it stands, when I click on a movie, I can see the main movie poster, and then a long row of the cast and crew. If I don't scroll down, I don't know there are Extras for that particular movie. Since very few of my movies actually have extras, I don't always think to check and see if they are there. Extras should be similar to "Additional Parts" in the sense that they should be listed ABOVE the cast and crew. There needs to be a visual break in the uniformity if there is something extra, so that the user knows it is there and not just another single file movie. There is currently no visual indication (other than scrolling down) to show that a movie has extras. EDIT: What it looks like now: https://imgur.com/SpnRbIh What I am describing: https://imgur.com/Ek5okca If there are no extras for the movie, it will look exactly like the first picture, with the cast and crew at the top. Would you rather see at a glance that there are extras, or would you rather have the bottom of your screen filled with foreheads?1 point

The file has no extension. "mp4" is part of the file name, missing the "."1 point

Confirming this version works well for me with 4.6.3.0. It is much faster than previous versions in my environment (Emby server on ReadyNAS 626X).1 point

This can't work as EBR said. The genres come from tags in tracks. The genres shown for an album are the genres present in tracks on that album. The genres shown for an artist are the genres tagged in tracks by that artist. If you have an album with no genres just pop it open in a tag editor like MP3Tag and add some, or run it through an automatic tagging tool like Picard. If you do the latter you can enjoy the added entertainment of learning about some truly ridiculous genres and likely come to the conclusion that musicbrainz is curated by the questionably literate.1 point

Artists don't have genres. They are inferred from their albums. So this is a bit of circular logic I believe...1 point

Some of our apps allow scrolling of the tabs now but some devices simply don't support that. Plus, we've found that, when tabs are hidden due to being scrolled off the screen, many people never discover they are there. So we try to avoid this situation as much as possible.1 point

Thanks. Yup, had to try and rebuild it and not point it to the smb folders but rather to the mounted ones on Nvidia Shield. So far so good, i've managed to refresh metadata etc and scanning media files did not fail so far.1 point

Just make an "extras" (or any other supported: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102) subfolder in your Movie folder and place specials accordingly.1 point

my decision on whether i want to watch something would be based on what it is and how far through the show it is. i wouldnt care what channel it is on. that said, channel logo as a badge on the poster?1 point
-
Yes we should try to find a way to work it in. Four lines of text underneath the poster is just a lot.1 point

As @Happy2Play is saying this all depends on the admin and his system, what hardware is available for transcoding/tone mapping, the source of the media and it's bitrate along with your server's upload bandwidth and the client's download bandwidth. So it all depends. Surely Emby Server 4.6 ads new ability that wasn't previously available and this might be perfect for you as is. For others it may not be and they might be better off with multiple versions of the same media. Only the admin of the system will know what's best for their system/environment and their clients. All anyone here can do is provide guidance to how they do it or what can be done. Past this you need to test on your system to see what works and what is best for you. That's basically the bottom line.1 point

Well before 4.6 there was no tone mapping so all hdr content was washed out when transcoded. So from a transcoding standpoint you have to choose if tone mapping gives that remote viewer watchable media. Transcoded h265 is converted to h264 with bitrate double (settings dependent) to maintain quality from the high compression of h265. But across the board there are many variables as high bitrate media has never been designed to be streamed via network. Just like streaming service media has not were near the bitrate of personal 4K media, usually a max of 25Mbps where personal media is 50-100Mbps.1 point

Yes we should probably add that inheritance. Thanks for the feedback.1 point

I'm going to try just "Cancel" along with a message when you press it and see how that does. Any text longer than that just starts to look very goofy.1 point

You can use mp3tag as you can add the mbz column and search via mbz also, but in the end what ever tag editing software you are comfortable with. Picard is more about working with albums and grouping the tracks to said album. Sound link you just need to something like mp3tag and load the music and sort the column and add info to the track missing info.1 point

Thanks for this. Indeed these were recorded from the HD-Homerun. How do you set it up to automatically do this for every show (new shows and ones that are already recorded)? EDIT: I can convert each show individually but I can't see how to do this automatically. Is this possible? When I go into Conversions from the sidebar menu it says "No downloads found. Create download jobs using the Download buttons found throughout the app." EDIT 2: I figured it out. In the web interface you go into Recording > choose your show > More > Convert and make the selections shown above. Thank you!1 point

Pretty sure it was a typo as I would read it as "working again so I re-enabled it and all is well".1 point

A small update to our 4.6 release is currently rolling out to address a few minor issues that came up. Here are the highlights: Fix web app playback regressions of videos that successfully played in previous server version Fix sporadic cases of audio playback stopping in the web app Fix sporadic cases of subtitle burn in not working Update sort by date last episode added to not be affected by virtual items in the database Fix Synology dashboard showing Emby Server as stopped when it is still running Fix album items being added to playlist alphabetically Fix transcoding audio channels for converted files using the convert media feature You can learn about the original 4.6 release here: View the full article1 point
