I am looking to see if a SAML2/OAuth plugin is something others would use. I myself would love this feature to share Emby publicly with family members and friend and worry a little less about insecure passwords that some may use. I personally am a big advocate for security as I work in IT and see how a lack of good security can cause havoc. I love Okta and what it offers. Anyone can sign up and use it for free under 1000 users if you sign up as a Developer. That is just plain awesome. Let's see who else is interested. I am excited to find out! Thanks2 points

Right now the dlna profile editing is a more advanced part of the server, but @cayars will be working on writing a guide for it. Thanks.2 points

Hi, Since I am using more and more TMDb, (since tvdb is more and more a mess), I am missing a very important feature. tvdb had the feature of grouping stuff into aired, DVD and absolute, which is supported by emby. TMDb had also this feature. See this example for "La casa de papel" (Money Heist, Haus des Geldes): The Original Order is allways the "aired order" of the original country. "La casa de papel" was originaly released by "Antena 3" and was taken over by Netflix, which results in different episodes ordering, which is a mess. They solved it in episode grouping. This feature is missing from emby, but it's integrated in their API and is allready supported in other apps, like kodi. At least, Banana a TMDb Mod claims it, that it's supported by Kodi: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/71446-la-casa-de-papel/discuss/5e7032d84f9a99001152704f?page=1#5eb76872ca7ec6001f7c53cb Is it possible to add this feature into emby? It is the last scraping feature, I really really miss for TMDb on emby. It adds much flexibility and is overall a much better solution, than on tvdb with their aired, dvd and absolute order. Another great example is Dragonball Super: As you see, it adds much more flexibility for different regions over the world. It's in my own eyes a must have for emby!1 point

I wasn't sure where to put this, but is it possible to be prompted to delete items after watching them but only for certain media. I've like to do it for TVshows etc but not for movies. I'm mainly using Kodi on windows.1 point

It would be useful if the server (or perhaps clients) could cache most (if not all) content images (posters, backdrops, logos, etc) for movies, TV series and seasons. This would mainly be of benefit when a portion of someone's content is offline but the users would still like to view the content to know what exists. I think caching on the server would be preferable, then all clients could make use of the same cached images. if you think this would be a useful feature, please click the "Like This" button on this post.1 point

Hi as i can see the exoplayer is nearly to get a major update like allowing Dolby Vision from .mkv containers and looks like MKV standard it's nearly to support it and as soon the MKV get support for DV (Dolby Vision) exoplayer will be upgraded as soon. Mastroka Standard https://github.com/cellar-wg/matroska-specification/pull/390 ExoPlayer https://github.com/google/ExoPlayer/issues/7267 BTW, as I read I found than ts(Containers) and others already support (Dolby Vision). But I also would like than Emby add some transparent icon or something that display than the content is well in Dolby Vision and Atmos an Transparent icon/tag/logo for exemple at the beginning at the movie during 10 Seconds (Usually the time of the intro scene) and at the movie UI Wil be nice. FYI. MKVToolNix implement it in the next version https://gitlab.com/mbunkus/mkvtoolnix/-/issues/2784#note_335568674785a60fd09cfbbf3b873780a63a1513 So conclusion. Support Dolby Atmos + Vision with and logo/icon/tag whatever you want(I prefer a tag and a icon) on the movie, music UI to see than that movie have that support i also know than other concurrents are working on this implementation. So hope than emby is the first one. Nvidia Shield already support Dolby Vision and Atmos and many tv and sound bars support Atmos unfortunately there is no info on the movie, music UI to show us properly than the movie, music have Atmos and/or have Dolby Vision. And also create a filter to add this as a tag to select directly the movie have Atmos and/or Dolby or each one (Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos) Like this. VOTE UP for this enhancement Kind regards1 point

@Luke it is like street signs. When the road changes during construction and people get startled at that point and crash because they didn't read the road signs indicating that some new round abouts had been constructed. They are not following the specification. The road signs and the spec. You cannot protect people from themselves. You have to protect yourself from them. Otherwise you are out of spec. You start down the rabbit hole you wind up in Wonderland. Where things are confusing and mad. You will never stop chasing rabbits. Time where is all the time. Spent maintain that code that is where. Beware the jabberwocky.1 point

only for a browser via css - needs a hard return in the text /*---- Item Detail - Overview line break----*/ div.overview-side-text {white-space: pre-wrap;} there was talk of getting html tags recognised by Android etc but that appears to have died off - too difficult apparently1 point

Yes I've the Trailer-Plugin loaded. I was brave, pressed "PLAY" - and you are right. It's only a trailer.1 point

What ebr is asking is what is the source "tuner" you setup in Emby? Do you have a real tuner connected to your cable system or to an antenna or did you input an M3U file? If M3U file it's 99.99% of the time a provider issue.1 point
-
Yes and no. Luckily, when I have a fault drive in my NAS, it will still allow you to read from it, but will not write anything. So in theory, the drive that was failing, I could have continued to use for a lot longer, as long as I didn't want to write to it (it was getting close to capacity, so was planning on replacing it anyway)1 point
-
Originally had WS Red, but replaced one with Seagate Ironwolf1 point
-
I used WD Greens when I first set up my media server many years ago, and after they all went bad I switched to Seagate Barracuda Pro's. The Seagates have gone bad too, but they're backed by a 5 year warranty and I've had every bad drive covered under warranty and replaced. I might try WD's this time around, but I'll keep hunting for the cheapest 18 TB CMR and see which one comes out on top.1 point
-
This is just personal and with hundreds of HDDs I've always had the worst experience with Seagate drives. BTW, concerning SMR drives. I would use this (if you choose) for only media and never for installing Emby on or using for temp data space for things like metadata, transcoding or other features. I like to think of SMR = Archival drive not part of a RAID setup. You can't go wrong with CMR drives of the same brand but if you can get 4 to 6 TB more storage with the SMR for the same price and you use it exclusively for storing media you'll never really "feel" the difference in performance.1 point
-
apart from the above considerations and warranty, just go for cheapest/tb...if only used for media i would favour 5400rpm....no evidence but its plausible less stress means greater longevity, and the read speed and latency of the slowest drive will be more than enough (in non array environments)1 point
-
would agree, if only being used to store media files, then go for cheapest, SMR is fine. if being used for general purpose, SMR is a big compromise in write performance, and i avoid. i would go for the biggest drive that offers close to the best cost/TB, especially if your collection is increasing in size and you run in a cool environment as the drive will last longer than your storage/pcs ability to store increasing number of drives. (chucking out disks because you dont have enough bays is best avoided for bang/buck)1 point
-
I think I got this working now. Seems like I just needed to reboot the WD NAS.1 point

Depends really on the file system being ran and how you use the drives. If you're like me and convert your files to a format you will keep as an archive nearly forever at least until a new version is available (ie DVD to Blu Ray, Blu Ray to 4K) then it won't matter much for pure storage. For the most part we use storage drives as write once, read many times so the drives don't do a lot of writing. SMR drives are fine in this situation especially if for the same money you get a bigger drive. Here is a good read on this in a blog post by WD. BTW and "Red Drive" over 8TB is CMR regardless if Pro version or not. https://blog.westerndigital.com/wd-red-nas-drives/1 point

Get CMR drives, not SMR. Most are now advertising whether they are one or the other.1 point

I believe their plan is definitely to be an integrator of major video sources. Whether or not they can pull that off - who knows. Some VC is willing to bet $50 large on it. IMO, the most likely way those investors get their money back (and/or a return) is by one of the big media companies simply purchasing P's technology. But, that is pure conjecture on my part. I don't know why any of the "big" content providers would want to offer an access method to their content that will potentially steer people towards some other provider's content and comingle it with personal content of potentially questionable origin. In effect, steering their customers towards a system that can help them to no longer need them. Here is the most interesting statement in that article to my eye: "to use viewing activity". Big Prother, is watching... [For the record, Emby (the company) knows nothing of your content or your viewing activity]1 point

These are most likely trailers. Do you happen to have the trailer plugin loaded for additional content?1 point

well it worked with me i have an unboxed elite and hub in storage waiting to be called into action at some future point. also i would think that logitech will either continue to make the db available or provide it to someone else to maintain, with free access. or the community will come together and build a replacement db. but i'm an eternal optimist...1 point

Not a speedtest of internet on the client. But a speedtest on a client to the server they are being hosted from. This could help basic users understand network limitations when deciding quality profiles.1 point

Never tried Jellyfin, just reading everything I had to do to get it set up felt overwhelming. I've been a Plex user since I started this media server adventure probably 6-12 months ago (this past year has been a blur, I'd have to investigate when I really started with it). The last straw was a bad build release almost a week ago, that pushed me to re-install everything... which would've been okay if that re-install didn't randomly bring inexplicable video/audio sync issues with a bunch of media that always worked fine before. I posted on the forum explaining my issue with a very straightforward question to answer, and to this day I still haven't gotten any kind of answer. Come to think of it, other than one post of mine about their download page not showing the "good" build after that snafu, I don't think I've EVER really gotten a response from the support team with Plex. Then came Emby. I tried it a while ago as I was deciding which one to go with, but certain issues with the Android app ultimately steered me in different directions. I'm not sure if things have improved so much, or if maybe my experience and expectations changed a little, maybe both... but this time around everything just seems to fit. It's not perfect, but what needs to work works and I feel warm and fuzzy about everything else getting there eventually. The staff here seem great in general, but @Luke is a monster... every topic I make gets some sort of response and I respect the hell out of that. I kinda wish I would've held off on the Plex Pass because that's money I would've happily put into Emby Premiere. I'll likely upgrade at some point with a lifetime pass once I've spent a bit more time with Emby and the community... keep up the good work all, I'm excited for the present and future of this software.1 point

Nextcloud works very slow in www. Took very long time to open video or pictures in browser. But if You want only for synchronisation it was OK. If You want to install just burn Dietpi image to sd-card, connect to Rpi. Connect with ssh or You can directly with monitor or tv (you need hdmi cable and keyboard). Start Rpi and login (check installation guide on Dietpi docks). Then type 'dietpi-software' go to 'software optimized' and check nextcloud and emby. Then click install. That's it. Read Dietpi software docs how to start. Go to Dietpi forum and find how to enable ssl if You want. regards.1 point

The episode grouping feature is something we can look at supporting in future updates, yes.1 point

@PenkethBoy it was worth a try :D. Yeah I know it won't happen that fast, especially since tvdb is still the dominat player for tv shows. But tmdb is growing and I have the opinion that it's much polished than tvdb. But that's just a opinion^^. Sometimes I prefer the ordering / metadata from tvdb over tmdb. But overall I am a bigger fan of tmdb. @Happy2Play I also have seen that it was asked for a while ago, but never happened and it wasn't asked as feature request before. The User had just asked if this is possible and Luke answered that it is only supported for tvdb. So I thought I ask for it^^. Some time has gone since the request and I had hoped more people would bring there interest into it^^.1 point

Hi, you'll need to shut down the server and rename this file: /config/data/library.db Then start back up and run a full library scan. Typical causes of this are sudden and abrupt terminations of the emby server process, such as a power loss, operating system crash, force killing the server process, etc.1 point
