Guys, The ebook side of Emby/MediaBrowser has been long stalled or rather stagnated. I would like to offer up a couple of suggestions. Many people use calibre as an ebook/comic book tool for scraping data and general management of their collection already. This program is absolutely astonishing in its ability to pull metadata from post calibre scans, as well as draw in metadata from the file source and/or directory structure. http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/ Its a self contained .jar server/reader combination. And honestly I am very impressed by it's small footprint and wide range of abilities. The other option is COPS , which was written specifically with calibre in mind. It is open source, so making it work with emby I would think would be fairly easy. https://blog.slucas.fr/projects/calibre-opds-php-server/ Ever since the original release of MediaBrowser's bookshelf I have always wanted something that would allow me to 'read' my collection, rather than being basically nothing more than a place-set for images of books I own. I am sure that those who mainly have audiobooks are thrilled with bookshelf , but it's nothing more than an extension of the music library IMHO, not new features. We can have both right? Here I give you two suggestions free of charge.. Just because I love you, and Emby Personally I plan on running the Ubooquity Server along side of Emby from now on, just because of it's massive functionality and tiny footprint. But I sure hope that someone decides -- "yeah, ebook support should be in here too" and do something about it - rather than allow this now very very ancient issue to continue to remain an issue. And so I don't have to have 20 different ports open, some with SSL support - some not, because Emby isn't delivering the 'complete package'. (Please take some of this with humor, I know you have your hands full with improvements/bugs/suggestions/requests)2 points

Can you please port your media info for this file? My understanding is it's 5.2 for x265/HEVC but still only 5.1 for x264 What file are you trying to play? This might be tricky. We can get the model, but decoding that would be painful. I haven't seen a method to get the model group but I'll have another look.2 points

You know how some TV series will crossover quite frequently? Some quick examples are: Flash/Arrow or Chicago Fire/P.D./Med ... You get the picture. If the movie collections could be morphed to handle these scenarios, we'd be able to add another tab in television libraries that tracks episodes across multiple "frequent crossover" shows by air date instead of flipping back and forth to figure out which one to watch next. Depending on development capabilities, each TV show should remain displayed in the regular library list individually, but maybe just include episodes from the other likely-to-crossover shows inline with their episodes. Of course, these would then need to be sorted by airdate instead of strictly season/episode designation. This would be a better solution to display these likely-to-crossover episodes than to segregate then into collections because it is not commonplace for movie/TV databases to collect metadata and images for TV show collections like this. I don't know if any other media software providing this feature... It could definitely help attract more converts from other platforms.1 point

Be able to create playlist based on a certain criteria, like genre and or year, in order to create a dynamic playlist that it refreshes automatically when new content is added. This way you can for example, create a tv comedy playlist from the 90's, or a new sci-fi Movies playlist. Some other criteria for rules could be the rating, watched/unwantched, score, tags, language, audio codec, etc The possibilities could be endless1 point

One thing that I would like to see implemented is the abilty to display lyrics in all of the apps. For those of us who have libraries with lyrics embedded in the actual files, it would be trivial. Simply scrape the lyrics from the lyrics tag and display them. As far as scraping from online lyrics databases, I don't see that working very well as just about every app that I have seen use it either doesn't get the correct lyrics or they are truncated with an add for the website.1 point

Hi there I am missing a sort criteria "country" in the movie database. There are several selection filelds, but none being the country. As this information is in the imdb database, it would be great to have Emby sort the movies according per country selected. If this feature does not yet exist (checked Android and Windows player), I would suggest to geht that selectable field as a sort criteria in a later release. If this feature is well hidden, kindly enlighten me... :-) Cheers, Lati1 point

I love the additional subfolders for Movie Extras (eg, Shorts, Scenes, Interviews, etc.)! I would like to propose an additional folder: "Galleries". Within the Galleries folder the user would place subfolders (only one level of nesting) and each subfolder could contain any images the user chooses. Then, Emby would display the subfolder name as an Extra (in Emby Theater) and opening that extra would launch an image gallery of the containing images. For example: Movies\Disney\The Sword In The Stone (1963)\Galleries\Scrapbook Movies\Disney\The Sword In The Stone (1963)\Galleries\Film Facts "Scrapbook" is what would be listed among other Extras in Emby Theater, and the Scrapbook folder contains various images to be displayed in a slideshow that the user can navigate with their left/right arrows. This feature request is motivated by the following related post: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55912-video-ts-folder-no-longer-recognized-in-movie-extras-folder/ Basically, sometimes there are extras such as image galleries and text content which are only available via the DVD menu. I have found that I can use FFMPEG to extract all the frames from a video file, and so use that on the appropriate VOB file from the original DVD. Then I can use VisiPics to delete all the duplicates, resulting in content I can then sort into folders (eg, Concept Art, Storyboards, etc.). All I need is for there to be the above support for a Galleries extras folder, which could contain multiple subfolders (only one level deep), each containing images to be displayed as image galleries in Emby Theater, etc. Thanks for your consideration! PS - If this is something you might like to see implemented, be sure to "Like" this top/first post (as well as any subsequent posts in this thread that highlight particular aspects of what you are interested in) -- "Liking" the top/first post helps the Devs to know how much interest there is in a given Feature Request.1 point

Does a lyrics plugin exist for Emby? Something to show the lyrics of a song while being played. It doesnt show in the Plugins catalog, so I assume one doesn't exist?1 point

Hi, I know it is possible to put different Versions of a movie into same folder and give them behind the "-" different names for identification. I use this feature very often, also if a movie is in 3D, HD and 4K available. Sometimes also special Extended Versions, etc. I also use this Feature for Multi-Movie Boxes, like Tarantinos Grindhouse. (Grindhouse (2007) - Death Proof, Grindhouse (2007) - Planet Terror) which work great. But I noticed, that the Chapter List in the Grid View don't refresh, for the newly chosen file. Is it possible to implement this, that you see the chapter list of the selected version?7 It's not a big deal and not a nobrainer, but it would be more elegant if this could work. Especially if different Movie Versions have different Chapters.1 point

Hi guys, would it be possible to enable sorting for playlists? At the minute when I add something to my 4K playlist it just appears wherever it wants in the list, not alphabetically or by last added etc. Would be nice to have. Cheers guys.1 point

I would like to be able to mark individual media items or even perhaps entire libraries to be excluded from media scans. If I have retrieved all the metadata and images I want for a particular TV series or Music collection and I know that the files will never change and the metadata should never change, I would like to be able to exclude it from scans to a ) reduce scan time b ) decrease the likelihood of unwanted changes being made c ) reduce network utilization I've noticed that even with series that have not had any new episodes in years (and no changes have been made in my filesystem) there is still information being downloaded from metadata providers. I suppose that is to check to make sure it is current/complete, but it is a waste of my network resources which are not plentiful. Perhaps this could be implemented by adding the option to not rescan media that has been marked as locked.1 point

Based on the Samsung documentations, Q80T supports video level 5.2, but my Emby app (latest version installed with USB) says this level is not supported and transcodes the video. Is there any solution for this? Thanks,1 point
-
Can you confirm that it does play correctly without transcoding (ie: from a USB drive connected directly to the TV)1 point
-
So it is above the spec limit per the codec. @Aliamir37 H.264 UHD: Level 5.1 supported. But this is the second recent topic on the issue of 5.2 in H264. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/96161-transcoding-whats-should-be-direct-play-4k-very-slow1 point
-
The rating is probably a different animal. For one, I'm not sure the metadata providers track this information at that level and then we don't really either at this time. That information is related to the entire item instead of specific version (unless you jump through some hoops). Media information such as codec and length, can be updated though.1 point
-
Refreshing the metadata would also help with differences in rating (lots of times the Director's Cut is UR) and resolution (many Extended Cut movies didn't get upgraded to 4K while the Theatrical versions did. All of these things "could" be added to the filename, but that makes it long and ugly in TV mode because some clients of little space to work with. Here's a pic of the ATV app which ebr mentioned requires the server to refresh metadata for the different versions in order for him to change the badges pointed to by the arrow1 point

TVDB has had api issues primarily since they introduced v3. And would appear are having issues with v4 according to their post on Twitter. Since they closed down their forum, everything is hidden behind their new support ticket system. Some devs that still uses v1/v2 methods do have a little better results but in the end this is a issue they created and not much any software devs can do. There really is no way around waiting on providers when information is not complete at the time you import a item into a metadata manager. Sure items will eventually get updated but will require a item refresh to get new information.1 point
-
It's just the premium sets that support 5.2. So you would not only have to check for Tizen >= 5.5 (2021 sets also), but also check the model1 point

Didn't know they changed to a licensed Pro version as I have not update the test version I have on my desktop. But no program will get data any faster from TVDB unless v4 api updates are faster. So all media manager will have this TVDB cache issue. Sure there are different methods as mentioned earlier where a Series gets updated before the Episode as I have shown earlier via the v3 api, but it is still about the cache you are pulling from. TVDB may have better metadata then the other guy but you will have to wait longer for it to be available. Unless you are doing a copy and paste.1 point

Info for other users: The issue was Emby server reported the wrong IP to Kodi. This can happen if you run the Emby server behind NAT. In this case it was a docker container using internally 10.X.X.X subnet and was accessible from outside via 192.X.X.X. In similar cases you MUST set the external IP address in Emby server settings!1 point

I like to keep system drive as clean and uncluttered as possible. I really don't want thousands and thousands of small (several hundred bytes) files such as fanart.xml on it.There are some other benefits of having complete MB3 server installation on a dedicated drive. So why AppData\Roaming folder? What is so special about it? Why not somewhere else or have the setup let me choose location?1 point

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby/releases/tag/5.2.02 At the bottom there is a Assets link "Source Code (zip)" You can use that, due python is a scripting language, there is no difference between source and "binaries". Link is: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/plugin.video.emby/archive/refs/tags/5.2.02.zip1 point

I believe channel groups will be available in the next Emby release as well for those who prefer that way. Group per provider, primary group and backup group, all of the above. Lots of options at that point.1 point

Seemless branching is 'possible' in MKV, but it needs a lot of fiddling - see the makemkv forums where somebody has it working ... https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=897 the how to is here ... jump to the bit about ordered chapters as that is I think what you are after ... http://mod16.org/hurfdurf/?p=8 Editor for it here - https://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=1699841 point

Should be enough time for the competition to copy the data and setup their own 'free' sites .. haha I'm seeing new providers beginning to spring up already ...1 point

Haven’t had a chance to try it yet but will do so tonight. I noticed that reinstalling the add-on also starts the update process again. Anyway, will report back.1 point

Unless this is a 4K 60fps file - there is no need for it to be level 5.2 - 5.1 is perfectly acceptable. (4K @ up to 30 fps) There is a utility that can change the level without needing a re-encode - let me dig it out. edit - try here - https://www.videohelp.com/software/H264-AVC-Level-Editor1 point

Why don't you drop a line in Emby NextGen, player settings, where we can choose if we want subs on or off by default? I think this could be a proper solution... Or you can take input from the Kodi settings, if this is possible at all.1 point

You are absolutely right - I am using Wondows. Thanks a lot for your quick response and support. That is amazing!1 point

i figured it was a globally used system. just so the non-familiar see how it looks with an SL-enabled program - pretty standard layout in my experience: sounds like this cant be done at EPG level, so the only option would be to rely the scheduler? since these programs tend to run at a certain time of the day (00:00-06:00 should easily cover things) and for certain programs then having the ability to control timeslots would be benficial. yes, i am aware recording options have a 'record around XX:XX time' but that seems a little restrictive and depending on exactly what program it is, that time can change depending on day of week, if it's a repeat or even if it's on a +1 channel.1 point

You could use a dummy webhook to see what parameters Emby sends using a site such as https://webhook.site/ Once you've got a dummy webhook from the site, you can simply add a new webhook in the Emby webhooks plugin, enable all the events, and for each event do an action that would result in that event being emitted (i.e. playing a video)1 point

You might be able to get creative with .strm files but for the best possible experience I would suggest three separate complete videos, despite the space requirements.1 point

We will try to come up with some sort of solution for this.1 point

I tried Plex along side Emby and they way they handle their wrappers and the limitations are awful. sticking to Emby! i couldn't get Plex to read the local .nfo files inside each movie, series. that was a killer for me with the podcast things they try to get you to use which i hate.1 point

Library counts: gone. IMDB vote counts: gone. Ability to filter multiple years at the same time: gone. Ability to filter multiple genres at the same time: gone. I want as much information as possible, delivered in the most efficient way possible. Emby was better before all these removals. Now Emby competitors have features Emby doesn't have.1 point

Want to be able to right click > play on playlist and it starts on the first unwatched episode. There's no filter on playlists to hide files marked as watched. not sure if i am just missing something or not1 point
